Standby and hibernating problems

Hi,
This last week my computer has been acting crazy.
First problem, if I put the computer into standby, when I return it wont come back.  None of the windows screens appear the screen stays black.
Second problem, if I put the computer into hibernation, when I try to awake it it does ~50% of the time.  But the next time I turn on the computer a black screen appears and says something like : An error occurred during startup and it gives me 2 options 1) delete restoration data and start or 2) start windows or continue start up (something like this)  If I choose option 2 the computer screen goes black and nothing further happens.  If I choose option 1 the computert starts normally.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • T30: can't enable Standby and Hibernation

I have installed a fresh copy of WinXP SP2 and most essential drivers (including all power-related drivers I could find from IBM for T30).
Windows reports that neither Standby nor Hibernate are supported by the system. How can I enable them?
    Solved!

I do have WinXP on T30 but Standby and Hibernation are working...
Did u check the Control Panel power options?
If you fool me once, shame on you...
If you fool me twice, shame on me!

  • Standby and Hibernation on Libretto

My libretto U100 will not wake up after going to standby or hibernation. Has anybody else had this problem, and if so any suggestion on how to rectify it?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Anthony
I have checked all options on my friends Libretto and everything works fine. I have also checked all options in Power saver tool under Setup Action tab (Manual setup).
Is your unit preinstalled with Toshiba recovery media?
Try to remove power saver tool and install it again.

  • T60 won't resume windows xp properly after standby and hibernation - shows only blank desktop

    Hi
I've got aT60 195CTO which is still just in warrantee that when I hibernate or standby the laptop and when i resume it'll ask for a password after the normal wait but then it'll just sit there show desktop background with no icons etc and periodically show hardrive activity but nothing happens, the touch pad pointer works ok but nothing else, even ctrl alt del failed to do anything, have downloaded and installed all xp updates inc sp3 as well as thinkvantage updates everytime this happens i'm forced to shut down computer by holding power button and restarting this is very annoying and always has the possibility of loosing work.
There appears to be two power management schemes in operation?, one running under xp and the other under thinkvantage - not sure if there is a conflict here? I have tried going into hibernation by closing the lid, fn-F12, xp's shutdown menu and entering hibernation from the thinkvantage menu all with same final result.
I have found a number of other postings on the net about this same problem but but apart from reloading the os which failed to solve the problem no other advice appears to be available.
would really appreciate any advice from anyone who knows how to solve this problem.
    Regards

No Not really had some success though completely uninstalled graphics card software and reloaded new software also found out that it was the XP wireless software was doing something when connected to my school network so quick fix was turn wireless off then log into computer then turn wireless back on to resolve this cause I always forgot to turn it off I set up the lenovo wireless manager this worked and will only periodically do it (though I never really turn my computer off unless upgrading etc and sometimes it clogs up) another problem with mine was the battery could have been a issue cause I never turned it off and let it discharge (I wouldn't t recommend doing that unless battery is in warranty) first time I did discharge it it would not recharge so I may have had a faulty battery heard about the non-rechargeable coin battery maybe another member could confirm that? This could have been contributing to the issue

  • T61p, Vista and hibernate problems

There are some other threads on the issue, but I didn't see anyone with the exact same problem.
The basics; T61p (6457-5gg) with Windows Vista Ultimate. Latest BIOS and drivers.
    - The sleep-function in Vista ain't possible to use at all.
    - When i choose to hibernate, the systems goes into hibernation, and then wakes up again. I put the system into hibernation and put the pc in my bag. Took it up a couple of hours later and it was extremly hot. It was really uncomfortable to touch the system. Battery had been completly drained.
    - BIOS-settings should be ok. The option for waking to do scheduled tasks is disabled.
Suggestions? I was thinking about a complete reinstall of the system to see what happens then, but I was hoping for a 2 minute fix instead of a days work :-|
    * W520 4284-49G (Upgrades: 256GB Corsair Performance Pro & 256GB OCZ Octane) * T61p (Upgrades: 128GB OCZ Vertex, Wi-Fi Link 6300)

    Hi,
I am having the same issue on my T60 on Windows XP.
I have had major issues with Standby and Hibernation from the beginning (less with Hibernation, so I use that more), but I have had weird issues where hibernating the system while plugged into AC power and waking it up while on battery will cause all kinds of issues to the point where the system will nearly freeze and cannot be shut down normally (this I can reproduce any time).
A friend told me there was a BIOS update that had been released recently - guess what: Since I installed that, I am getting freezes after a fresh reboot within minutes - my external USB mouse will stop working first, then the Start menu button and the content will start losing text (only the icons will show), and at some point it will no longer do anything.
But today all of a sudden out of the blue after showing these signs, I get the mentioned blue screen:
    0x000000A0
    Internal_power_error
    (0x00000101, 0x00000007, 0xBA50507420, 0x00000000)
There appears to be a hotfix for Vista that you can request from Microsoft, but nothing for XP.
I would really like Lenovo to look into this as I am fairly certain there is something in their power management drivers and software that is causing this.
Does anyone have a paid support plan with Lenovo and can ask them about this?

  • Satalite P300D: standby and turning off problem

I have a problem with especially the standby modus. When I close the laptop he is supposed to go to standby, and sometimes he just does that, but other times(especially if I do it two times after eachother) the ventilator will go on extremely loud and the screen will turn black and the only way to stop this is to push the on/off button until the laptop shuts off. Sometimes I have the same problem with shutting the laptop down.
I think it started right after installing windows 7, could it have something to do with that?

    Hi mate
Well, this could be possible since the Win 7 supports a little bit different power management settings as well.
    I recommend checking the BIOS.
You should update it if a newer version is available.
Furthermore you should install the Win 7 VAP (value added package) which can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page

  • Standby and PCIE 2.0 x16 problem

    Good day Forum,
I have encountered 2 issues with my setup (I will list the setup specifications below).
Standby issue: My computer is unable to go S1 nor S3 standby despite having a new operating system installed. Power settings set at Maximum Performance for Windows 7. When I clicked 'Sleep', the system will power down but it will power up again (without having the display shown). I have ruled out USB issues because I have taken out all USB peripherals connected to it right before it shuts down from standby and connected back again after it powered up.
PCIE issue: My PCIE 2.0 x16 graphic card is slots into the blue coloured PCIE 2.0 x16 slot. There are 2 PCIE-based cards which are connected to the motherboard via the PCIE slot but they are not connected to the 2nd PCI 2.0 x16 slot (hence, no reason for the speed to drop to x8). The issue here is not concerning the bandwidth of my graphics card but merely a question of curiousity as to why the interface speed drops from PCI-E 2.0 x16 to PCI-E x16 (v1.1). Any ideas? To answer your second query, the following is extracted from MSI's website on your board's detail specifications.
    Slots
    • 2 PCI Express gen2 x16 slots
    - If two graphics cards are installed at PCI_E1 & PCI_E2 slots, these two PCIE x16 lanes will auto arrange from x16/ x0 to x8/ x8
    - supports ATI® Crossfire™  & NVIDIA SLI
    • 1 PCI Express gen2 x1 slot (blue)
    • 1 PCI Express gen1 x1 slot
    • 2 PCI slots, support 3.3V/ 5V PCI bus Interface

When the VGA works in higher performance mode then will be auto switched to pci-e 2.0 automatically.

A new BIOS can help with this. If you already use latest BIOS for your mainboard, then you can ask msi about it here for further beta bios: http://support.msi.com/
P.S: Try turn off/Disable the "EuP 2013" BIOS option 1st, then retest

  • Sleep and hibernation is working on Server 2012 with started hypervisor! I do not know why...

    Hi,
I enabled Hyper-V role in the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 on testing computer (PC with i7 CPU and 16GB RAM). I found very strange behavior. The sleep mode was enabled and after command “powercfg /hibernation on” the hibernation is also working.
I tested sleep (S3) and hibernation with started hypervisor and with running virtual machine. I tested sleep and hibernation triggered by power button and even with time-out that was set in the Power Options (I set sleep after 1 minute and
later hibernate after 1 minute and wait).
Sleep and hibernation is working! I do not understand why. Sleep and hibernation should be functional only on Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 and not on the Server 2012.
    Some examples:

    Hi Ben,
I have nearly exactly the same Problem as Relef Revil.
    I have Lenovo T510 Notebook with Core I7 and a Lenovo T420 Notebook with a CoreI5.
On my T510 S3 Sleep works perfectly with Hyper-V Role. On my T420 Sleep is disabled due to Hypervisor.
If I uninstall Hyper-V Role then Sleep works again as expected.
So, from a Little simple perspective, I Looks like this is a Hyper-V Thing or Problem.
I have als updated to the latest BIOS and latest Intel HD Graphics 3000 Drivers on this Win 2012R2 Maschine.
Also I have installed all possbile latest Versions of all other devices.
Could you probably give me an idea where to search for a solution.
So, what is the logic why Hyper-V disables sleep, when Sleep worked before?
I assumed that Hyper-V and Sleep ist generally possible on Win2012R2, especially when Sleep works perfectly when Hyper-V Role is not installed.
    Kind Regards

  • Updated Bios and hibernation

Hi, I have a  K8T Neo that was working just fine for me until I Live Updated the Bios.  Basically, the case I have has a big honking obnoxious case light that hooks up using a HD power connector.  So the thing never turns off unless the power supply is off, and this isn't conducive to sleeping.  Putting the system in stand by has never been an option because the lights stay on.  But I used to be able to put it into hibernation and everything would be great.
Verizon finally comes along and hooks up my DSL so I decide to update my bios so that to see if a bios update will make my expensive CAS 2 memory actually run at CAS 2 without windows crashing.  Well, the good news is the update worked in that respect.  But my computer will no longer hibernate.  When i try to put it into hibernation it seems to go in to the old standby mode.  Meaning the fans keep running, the lights stay on, and I don't sleep....  However, to top things off, there is now no way to wake the computer up from standby or hibernation.  It will not respond to the keyboard, USB mouse, or the power button.
I've tried fiddling with every power management bios setting I could think of.  I just can't make it work.
Has anyone else experience the same problem?

The symptoms / problems probably change when BIOS updates happen
since the BIOS update causes all BIOS / CMOS / NVRAM settings  to pretty much
reset to the new BIOS's default values, and these may differ from what you had
    selected before.
I've just updated to 1.92B BIOS for my MS-6702-020 / K8T NEO FSR and that
plus the AMD CPU Driver makes Cool & Quiet work, but "S3/STR" standby mode
always crashes W2K SP4 when the Wake-Up is  initiated.
I know that having add in cards that have drivers and hardware that support
being put to sleep and being woken up are critical for success in general, but
in my case I have only one add in card, and it's a pretty new design AGP 3.0
PCI 2.3 ATI RADEON 9800 PRO with new drivers, so I'd assume it can properly
    support sleep / wake up.
    I'd suggest you go to
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
and apply all available updates, reboot, go back there, check to see if there
are any new upapplied ones, and keep doing that until it shows you're totally
up to date.   If you run XP, be sure you have SP2 installed and all the other
    updates too.
Go to the OEM home page of all your add in card vendors like your  video card,
sound card,  whatever you have and get / install the latest compatible driver for
your OS -- that may help your suspend mode and long term stability.
I'll update my posts if I discover any other helpful information or diagnostic clues.
EDITED -- I just discovered that one has to set the
"Allow this device to wake the system from standby" check box for the
mouse & keyboard and other devices e.g. USB ones or maybe others in
W2K Control Panel -> Device Manager -> select the particular keyboard/mouse/etc
device -> then the "Power Management" tab, then check the
"Allow this device to wake up the system" optiion.
One ALSO has to set the "WAKE UP EVENTS" and "WAKE ON USB" settiings
in the Power Management  BIOS configuration screen.
Once I did that USB keyboard / mouse wake up from  S1/POS standby or
S3/STR standby worked for me where it did not work before.
(though S3/STR still crashes upon the wake up for me).
Maybe that'll help the original poster also since s/he mentioned a similar
failure to generate a standby wake-up.
Re: "hijacking" -- not at all, I'm trying to provide answers or feedback
relating specifically to the "standby / suspend / wake up" and
"when I upgraded my BIOS things changed" issues  the original poster mentioned.
As for hibernate vs. suspend, I have no idea why THAT changed for the original
poster, and I can't comment on getting hibernate mode working for them, so
I confined my reply to the other issues that I do have experience with
(suspend / wake up / bios options clearing when you upgrade BIOS).
I understand they prefer to hibernate vs. suspend, but the fact is the
majority of problems they mentioned ARE suspend/standby/wake up ones!

  • Lenovo G450 Standby/Hibernation Problem

Hi, I've been having the same problem as http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G460-standby-hibernation-problem/td-p/216132 , my Lenovo G450 came with a blank screen when I tried to turn it on from hibernation today. I've tried removing the battery, running it on power only, or both, but none of them seem to get it out of the blank screen state. It does come back out of the state after a whole week of being switched off, but being a busy student overseas, I find this to be quite the hindrance to my studies and recreations.
I sent it to the Lenovo service centre in Singapore in April, but they returned it to me saying it doesn't have any problems.
I also have the heat problem stated in http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G450-gets-too-hot-shuts-down/td-p/200020 despite the fact that I actually have a STAND AIR CONDITIONER pointed at the exhaust.
Would appreciate a fast reply. Thanks.
Also, please don't suggest that I install the BIOS update, since I can't even get the system to start. Indicator lights come up, touch volume control works, DVD drive bay opens, but nothing else.

    Some other things to try:
Make sure you post and add your input to the two threads you linked to.
A couple hardware things, these should not affect warranty, as you are allowed
to change memory and hard drive. I don't know how much of this you know already:
Do the "discharge procedure" again first.
Reseat memory modules. (Unplug, remove battery, touch a grounded metal object,
remove memory chips, and replace one at a time. Try it with just one first to eliminate
memory failure. Then the other by itself, then both.)
Remove hard drive and see if you can boot to bios (F2 key on boot
Hard drive is under a plate on bottom, just carefully slide it back with the tab,
and remove, holding it by the sides.
If these do not help, I guess it must be returned to service again?
I am surprised they found no problem!

  • Cannot go into standby and hibernate on x61 with winxp

I installed winxp on the x61.  Reinstall all the drivers (wireless and power management ... ).  I enabled standby and hibernate on winxp.  But cannot hibernate and go into standby.  Everytime, i try standby, the laptop just shutdown and when I resume the laptop just power on and start winxp.  I try standby using th Fn key and also closing the lid.  I try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers.  I cannot resume after hibernation.  i get the BSOD when i try to resume after hibernation.
Seem like some people in this forum have similar a problem.  Do anybody have a solution or suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Wayne

    Hello there
My problem is quite different, and that´s why I might confuse de topic so apologies in advance.
Well the problem goes like this: a X61 WinXP pro, SP2 doesn´t go to standby or hibernate only on the docking station. Meaning that to make the options work I have to put it in the docking station, restart and the options are available. But after one restart disconnected from the docking station I get standby grayed out.
Tried almost everything, display driver update, chipset update, sonic DLA uninstalled, PM update for the battery, disabling all devices, page file increased, ... I don´t even remember all the stuff tried but nothing.
Any ideas on what might cause this?
My only option is to try SP3 although from my personal experience SP2 is less problematic.
    Thanks,
    Misu

  • T60p - Unexpected death on resume from 15 minutes of standby or hibernation

    Hallo!
I am diagnosing the following problem on a T60p 2007-93G:
When I let the machine go into standby or hibernation mode, or manually place it in either mode with FN+F4, respectively Fn+F12, everything looks fine. However, sometimes I could not resume from either mode by pressing the On/Off switch. Instead, within a second after pressing the On/Off switch, the battery and the AC adapter indicators turn off and the machine is dead. I need to unplug and plug the main battery to reanimate the machine (both indicators turn on). I can then start the machine using the On/Off switch.
After ensuring all Windows XP (Professional, SP3) updates are installed, and BIOS and Lenovo System Update are up-to-date, I did more systematic tests and also observed:
    - The problem occurs only if the machine was in standby or hibernation mode for more than 15 minutes (several tests with less and more than 15 minutes).
    - The problem occurs only if the machine is connected to the AC adapter.
Every resume from standby or hibernation within less than 15 minutes, AC adapter connected or not, even if I press and hold the I/O switch for a few seconds, makes the machine start normally.
Every resume from standby or hibernation without AC adapter, even after more than 15 minutes, also makes the machine start normally.
I have no clue about the cause of the 15 minutes window, nor about the influence on the presence of the AC adapter (ThinkVantage Power Manager 5.20 correctly identifies it as 90 W power supply).
The key question seems to me: What makes the machine to shut down (or die) when I press the On/Off switch?
    Any ideas are welcome.
    Thank you
    Norbert

    Norbert,
    Have you solved this problem?
I, too, have a T60P with the same issue.  I put it to sleep using Fn + F4.  When I resume by pressing Fn, the power light turns off.  To get the light to go on again, I need to unplug and replug in the power supply (I'm not using the battery).  I can then restart the machine.
This behavior only started a few weeks ago.  And I don't know if it's time related.
I thought it might be related to my using a docking station, but swapping docking stations made no difference.
Thanks for any tips you may have.
    Michael

  • Question regarding standby and cables...

I just got FIOS yesterday and so far (one day lol ) I love it.  I love the speed of my internet.  I was paying for BOOST and in the beginning I was getting 3.5mb daily but over the last 4 months that has become 500kb and I had had enough.
On to my problem.  I have the new Motorola MRDVR HD in the livingroom and the 7100 p2 STB in the bedroom.  Last night watching a movie in the livingroom (HD) it failed, I restarted and it played, failed again and restarted then all seemed fine but in the bedroom I have a bigger problem.
I understand the 7100p2 does standby and thats fine but I haven't bought a new TV yet so I am using an Epson projector with COMPOSITE cables.  I suspect the standby and composite cables are not playing nice but while watching anything 20-30 min in the STB just goes off...and the only way to get it back on is to pull the plug on the STB.
I have tried every other iteration of menu/on/off/anything but once it goes into standby ( I guess it is anyway although I was watching something) It will not come back on.  Sometimes it tries...black screen for a few then back to the EPson start screen and from there the only way is to pull the STB plug.
If it's a composite cable/projector problem Ill get another TV (the tech is SOOOO old I figured it would work np) but if there is some sort of interaction between the STB and TV that this cannot handle... I have other ways to hook it up but none will get me sound right now, s-video/vga to DVi to HDMI, but none of those will do sound (today anyway).
I have searched all over the webs and cannot find even mention of someone trying to use these old old old cables with a newer STB... help...:-)
EDIT: The motorola starter guide does show composite and s-video but no mention of standby.

Actually the standby is just when you power the cable box off, its not really off, it is in standby waiting incase there is an update. All the Verizon STB's do this.
Component cables have no communication between STB and TV. Only the HDMI cable has any 2 way communication, so there should be no compatibility issue.
If the STB is powering off after 20-30 minutes and you cannot power it back on without a reboot, then I would guess that you have one of two issues (that I can think of anyway).
It could be that the STB is overheating. Its designed to power down when it gets too hot and stay off until it cools down. Is the STB out in the open? Does it have anything on it, like a towel or another electronic device? Is it inside an entertainment center that has an enclosed back or front?  If so, it may just be getting hot and you may need to move it out into the open or move whatever is on it.
If its not overheating then it may be just a lemon of a stb, I'd contact Verizon and ask them to swap it out for you.

  • Occasional hang up of IE and hibernation on Satellite A100

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A100 with Windows Vista. It works fine, but I have two problems:
-Sometimes Internet Explorer hangs up, often making the whole system "freeze".
-The system does not recover properly from hibernation. It seems to re-initiate activity but then the start screen showing the Toshiba logo appears, as when switching on the computer.
Then, a blue screen shows a fast message reporting some error or problem (sorry, the text flows and disappears too fast for me to read it) and I get a message asking whether I want to solve the problem that led to an abnormal shut up by starting in safe mode or start Windows normally.
Can anyone help? I will appreciate any assistance. Thanks in advance.
P.S. My apologies for my English...)

    Hi there,
just some suggestions, maybe no the whole resolution but helpful:
    Regarding your IE-Problem
    1. Make all updates you can get (Windows, 3rd party software, etc...)
    2. Install a Anti-Virus Program if not already did (a good one is Avira Anti-virus and its *tadaaaa* Freee!)
    3. Use Mozilla Firefox instead of M$-Internet Explorer, its faster, not so buggy and there are PLENTY of free plugins for it :)
    Regarding your hibernation problem:
    1. Update your bios to the latest available version.
    2. To read the bluescreen, do the following:
Right-Click on "My Computer", then Left-click on the tab "Advanced", then on settings in the section "Startup & Recovery", then uncheck the box "Automatically restart" under "System failure" and now youre able to read whats described in the BSOD (Blue-screen-of-Dea**)
Thats all what I can tell you
    Greets
