Standby issues following security update

After installing the recent security update, my iBook now insists that I restart it every time I open it up from standby. Whenever I close the lid and re-open it, I can't carry on from where I left off. I have to restart. It's annoying, does anyone have this problem or a solution?

If after installing Security Update 2007-004 on OS10.3.9 and after waking from Sleep you experience a kernel panic notification (black pane) to reboot with the power button ......... do the following:
Reboot .... then apply /App/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions .... shut down .... Reboot while holding down Command-Option-P-R keys together until the computer chimes three(3) individual times ... release keys to complete reboot .... Repair Permissions again ... click the soft Restart .... Sleep the computer then wake it up .... the kernel panic pane should be gone.
It worked for me and I never before had a panic pane on a 15"FP iMac!
P.S. If after the above you still have Airport issues (you probably have the Airport "b" card), go to /System/Library/Extensions and delete all BUT the latest Airport Extension (check by DATE, not the version number).

  • Delay when opening Airport menu bar item following Security Update 2007-005

When I first got this computer, there was one annoying quirk: when I clicked on the Airport menu bar item at the top right, there would be a roughly 1 second pause before the menu actually appeared. I recall hearing other people having the same experience at the time. Airport worked fine, but this delay was really annoying: since you're not sure if the system registered your click, so you click again, but then it registers the second click which causes the menu to disappear as soon as it appears, and you click again, and fall into this ridiculous cycle of fighting the sluggish menu item.
Before long, this issue disappeared following some update (I can't remember which).
After installing Security Update 2007-005, this exact same annoyance has reappeared. (I can confirm that the presence of the 802.11n Enabler update has no effect on the problem.)
Is anyone else noticing this? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Hi
Can you tell people how you cured the problem, so that those who search looking for answers to a similar problem know how to fix it?

  • PHP/MySQL issue after security update 2010-005

    Hello,
I run Apache/PHP/MySQL on my MBP for testing Web sites.
After the 2010-005 security update I can't connect to my databases anymore.
I don't know how to fix this, I even don't know where to start looking.
    Ideas, anyone?

etresoft, thanks for sharing this ... I decided to go with the TriangleJuice suggestion instead for two reasons ... first is that I wasn't sure where to find this launchd file.
There is nothing wrong with TriangleJuice's suggestion. My only issue with creating a php.ini file is that now I have to worry about all those other settings in the ini file. If something else in PHP breaks, I have to figure out if I am the one who broke it.
Apple ships MySQL with MacOS X Server. They probably adjusted the PHP settings to match how they have MySQL setup in MacOS X Server.
For MySQL's, no, Sun's - drat! no, Oracle's part, they still haven't acknowledged the fact that Apple has shipped MacOS X 10.4. MySQL still ships with a Startup Item. If you don't know where the launchd file is, it is because you don't have one. You probably have a MySQL entry in /Library/StartupItems or maybe /System/Library/StartupItems. Startup Items were deprecated in 10.4. Oracle should be creating a file named com.mysql.mysqld.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.
Here is what mine looks like now:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

    </array>
    <key>RunAtLoad</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
I also don't have a /var/mysql directory and wasn't sure whether I should just create one or if this meant my configuration was different. If you feel like explaining any of this, I'd be curious to know.
You have to create one. Such a directory probably already exists on MacOS X Server. Just make sure it is owned by mysql.
    sudo mkdir /var/mysql
    sudo chown _mysql:staff /var/mysql
    sudo chmod 0755 /var/mysql
    [jdaniel@Pele:516] /var $ ls -al /private/var | grep mysql
    drwxr-xr-x 3 _mysql staff 102 Aug 26 20:03 mysql
Of course, /var is a symbolic link to /private/var. Long story there.

  • 802.1x issues PEAP +Security Update

This is the error I get when I try to join our network with PEAP authentication. I cannot seem to find out what this means. It has worked before; however, ever since the last security update I have not been able to connect.
    2006-12-12 15:03:35.133 Internet Connect[239] Error: Unable to join 802.1x wireless network 88001000!
So I was thinking that it might be the network issue. So I took out my old TiBook with a Aria Extreme card and it hooked up with no problems. I also tried it with another Macbook Pro and it was unable to connect also. I'm sooooo lost.
    ~D

I have been having similar problems on my MBP C2D recently. My iMac C1D gets about 12mbps on the same wireless connection where my MBP gets about 500kbps. They are both connected to an AirPort Express connected directly to a cable modem.
At home today, on my MBP I have been having problems connecting to the internet and staying connected. When I am connected it is very slow. This is on a d-link modem.
I first noticed these problems after installing the airport update and bringing my MBP to my uncles, getting around 500kbps on a linksys wired/wireless router.
2 of these 3 networks have passwords, (the last one I talked about didn't)

  • Pixelated Ghosts and Shadows following security update 10.4.6

After making yesterdays security update and restarting, the desktop has pixel shadows, the icons have shadows and leave pixel ghost trails.
I have no third party software installed and no peripherals. Very stock powerbook.
Everything was running perfect until the update?

Repairing disk permissions rarely if even fixes anything. It is probably the most over used and the least needed of all advice given here. I personally rarely do it and never do it before and after a software update. I consider it a huge waste of time. If I was having issues I may try it.
Most people that have issues with an update had them before they did it and think the update will solve their problem. That rarely , if ever, works. After every update people start posting about how the update broke their Mac, broke up their marriage and made the dog run away.
I have no reason not to update. If we go by the logic that "if it ain't broke don't fix it then we would all be at 10.3.9, which works just fine.
The enhancements made with the updates are to give you additional stability and perhaps solve some knows issues. I have yet to read a compelling argument from anyone that would convince me not to update.
That being said. As usual 5 Macs updated, 0 issues. I have NEVER had a problem with a software update since 10.0 came out.

  • Start up issues after security update!!

G4 Tower - Mac OS X - 733mhz.. After a security update 2 days ago i can not get my computer to boot. It comes up to the gray apple screen and just sits there. I put the install dvd in and went to disk utilities, but the hard drive does not show up at all. I tried to boot the computer in target mode from my laptop. It goes into target mode, but the drive never shows up on the screen. I put disk warrior in the laptop and launched it, and it seen the drive as a firewire drive, but the only option was to rebuild. I have a lot of info on the drive, and am hoping that I do not have to go to that extreme. Please help...

I have always had good luck with DiskWarrior. I've had serious issues and DiskWarrior has always come thru .
Are you nervous because you have never used DW before, or are you afraid it will hose your system?
By your report, it kinda sounds as if your hard drive has either failed or on it's last leg.
I'm guessing you had issues with the drive before installing the update and you did not know it. Updates tend to point out problems in a big way sometimes.
I run repairs on my hard drive before installing any updates.
I don't remember, does Jaguar have S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk utility? If so, what does it say about your drive?

  • Safari certificate issues after security update

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with Safari not recognizing certificates.  This issue seems to have started after the most recent security update (I'm using OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.9).  I just got this software update last week, but its possible it could have been around longer than that.
Here's the problem:  Some websites that I have been visiting for years with no problem all of a sudden are giving me certificate issues.  When I try to go to these sites, I get a dialog box saying "Unable to display this certificate".  If I click cancel, the site doesn't load and see a blank page.  If I click continue, every single Safari tab I have open (usually lots) tries to reload (super annoying).  The tab experiencing the certificate issue continues to fail with the same dialog two or three more times before giving up and displaying a blank page.  Checking the "always trust these certificates" box does not change the results.
My attempts to solve the problem: I've reset and relaunched Safari, with no change.  I've made sure the cpu clock is synced (at least as displayed in the upper right corner of the screen).  I went into the Keychain and changed all the certificates with custom security settings to use the system default security settings.  I've read through lengthy discussions of similar issues here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20152546?searchText=Safari%20certificate%2 0issues%20after%20security%20update#20152546) and elsewhere on the discussion boards.
Any suggestions of what could be going on here?  Any more information I can provide to help diagnose the issue?
    Thanks very much,
    Adrian

I later found that I couldn't even Quit the Safari Application by the drop down menu    .... Safari>Quit Safari.... as that was also grayed out and non-functioning. Likewise the 'cmd' and 'Q' keys clicked simultaneously didn't quit the application either.  I finally used the 'Force Quit' function from the '' drop down menu which did work.
Opening Safari later ... all seems to be working fine. So apparently just a restart of the Safari app was all it took to reconfigure everything!
Nice to have it working as before....

  • Mail.app and attachments issues after security update

    Hi there
just installed latest security update (via software update) and now when i try to attach any file to an email, I get the spinning beach ball.
have tried rebooting and zapping the pram
anyone experienced similar or have an idea what might have happened?
    cheers
    ben

    Hi ben.
This could be caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Menu Bar Icons Disappeared and other issues after Security Update 2006-001

    Hi,
I was really affraid when i've heard about the Safari vulnerability, so I was really happy to see the Security Update 2006-001.
But after installing it, I'm having regrets:
    * mouse speed turned to default settings
    * system preferences crashes when i try to access to Mouse & Keyboard
    * all the menu bar icons disappeared: Bluetooth, Airport, Time, EVEN Spotlight
    * Finder is slower...
I've repaired disk permissions but: nothing happens....
    What should I do please?
    Should I wait?

How did you fix it? I'm having the same problem
    myself.
    Mandy,
I'm gonna tell you a secret, just like i said my problem wasn't due to the Security Update but because of Front Row.
How? Because, I've hacked my iMac (without iSight) to install FrontRow (with an update), and i've installed the Security Update at the same time. Restarted my computer, and thought the problem was due to the Security Update.
If you did the same thing, here's the trick to remove Front Row:
    Delete Front Row (/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app)
Install/reinstall the the latest Mac OS X Update Combo.
This article assumes you haven’t tried installing Front Row before without the use of Enabler. If you have used one of the very early versions of Front Row (ones installed without Enabler):
    Delete Front Row (/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app)
    Delete the preference file (/System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.frontrow.plist)
Remove any Login Items that launch Front Row (System Preferences >Accounts >User >Login Items)
Disable any shortcuts managed by third-party applications that launched Front Row.
    Reboot and reinstall.

  • Safari issues following latest update

    Hello,
Am having issues with Safari following the ios8 update - pages not loading, menus not selectable. I am running torch as an emergency and have no issues with that.
All seems to have happened after yesterdays software update.........imac, IOS8
    Any suggestions?
    daz

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • VPN issues following latest update

Since the latest update in the o/s on February, my IPAD and IPHONE will not allow web pages to be opened once my VPN has connected. I have spoken many times to the VPN provider and they say it is Apple's o/s update that is the problem. The VPN works fine on my laptop. Why is it that no one seems ables to fix this very sensitive issue? As someone who uses their VPN daily, I miss the service very much.

  • Multiple itunes issues following ios5 update

Looking after my music when I first got my iphone was easy and I could do everything I wanted to, but since the upgrade, Ive got various problems:
    - I cant make playlists anymore.  I can create a new playlist in iTunes, but it wont let me drag and drop the music from my iPhone into it.
    - I can rename tracks in iTunes by right clicking and using 'Get Info' - it saves the new name in iTunes, but doesnt transfer this to my iPhone despite syncing
    - On the summary page of iTunes which shows my iPhones capacity, about three quarters of my music is showing as 'audio', but the rest is showing as 'other' (which may have something to do with the issues above?) - I've deleted it all and put it on again but it does the same thing.  Also its the same music from the same sources as before the upgrade, when none of these problems existed!
    Any help much appreciated! Thanks

iOS 5 does not run on an iPhone 3G. Do you have a jailbroken/modified device? It only runs on an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
If it is indeed not a 3G, let's move on. Are you accessing contacts through the phone app or the contacts app? Are you trying to connect to iTunes via Wi-Fi or USB? By adding/updating apps, you mean accessing the App Store or your computer running iTunes?
