Standby key

My standby key does not work well. Wha can I do?

Oh, the POWER button.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If this does not resolve the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • 8900 System upgrade, now phone will not wake up unless I press the standby key.

Yesterday I endured the lengthy recommeded system upgrade on my 8900.  Unfortunately, the upgrade did not go perfectly.  It was unable to reinstall my chat logs from BB messenger, but I wasn't all that concerned about it.
However......now, when the backlight in the screen times out, I can only wake up the screen when pressing the standby button.  No other key will wake up the screen.  I checked my settings for screen and keyboard in the options folder, but there is no "default" key choice to wake up the screen.  When the screen is black, and I press the "lock" key, it will lock, but the screen also does not "wake up" to show me it has been locked.  Apparently only the standby key is being acknowledged once the screen is blacked out.
Is this a "default" setting for the new OS?  Or, did the OS just install badly?  I have also been told that if you cover the led indicator with your finger, the trackball ring and keys should light up....this also does not seem to be working.
Anyone have any idea what hte formal changes are to the new system upgrade, or is this a bad install, or worse, a bad phone that otherwise worked perfectly BEFORE the upgrade?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers!

  • Neo2-FR won't power up after sitting for ~3+ standby - if less, it does power up

    Hi all,
I had my Neo2-FR for about three months and have been working well going into standby (S3) and restarting by pressing the power button, until last week when I replaced the CPU fan with 120mm Scythe Kama PWM fan.  I don't know why a fan would prevent the PC from Powering On, so I'm baffled.  Even more bizarre, it works fine if when the PC goes into standby and brought back up in less than 3 hours or so (an estimated number).  So, this mainly happens when I go to bed at night, I press the standby key on my keyboard and the PC goes into the S3 state.  When I wake up the next morning, I press the power button to wake the PC and NOTHING - no boot, no power.  I have to unplug the power cord and leave it out for few minutes and plug it back in and then everything works fine again.  Here are the details.  Please help!!!
    My PC Spec.
Mobo:  Neo2-FR (v1.2) BIOS Ver 1.85 (beta) - This hasn't changed.  It was working fine before the PWM Fan.
    Video:  ATI HD2600XT 256MB DDR3
    PS:  Antec EA-500 (500w)
OS:  XP Pro SP2 & Vista Ultimate (dual boot)
CPU:  Q6600 B3 (333x9) 3.0Ghz - 1.325v (this is the same as before the Fan)
Heatsink:  Tuniq Tower with 120mm fan with fan control (comes with the HS).  I replaced the fan with above mentioned Scythe Kama PWN fan and the problem started.
Memory:  Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 (2GBx2).  The setting is at SPD - 800Mhz, but voltage is set to 1.9v
    HDD:  2x500GB Samsung 501LJ in RAID 0
    DVD RW:  NEC DVD-RW
Everything is exactly the same for HW, SW, and BIOS setting before and after the PWM fan install, except for the following.
    1.  Replaced the Tuniq's stock 120mm fan (3 pin header with rear mounted fan control) with Scythe Kama PWM Fan 120mm.
    2.  When the fan was replaced, I changed the following BIOS Setting:
        a) H/W Monitor Menu:  Enabled "CPU Smart Fan Target" and set it to 40C
        b) Set the "CPU Min.FAN speed (%)" to "50%"
Only weird the that existed from the very beginning, but I never follow-up since the PC worked fine is the LED Status Indicator (LED3).  The manual (on page 2-23) states the the LED3 "lights when system is on standby mode", but on my board, this light is always on.  Doesn't matter if the PC is ON or STANDBY or OFF.  As long as the power cable in plugged in, the light is on.  Also, the light never changes color - it's always red.  Is this normal?
This is really difficult to troubleshoot since I have to wait 5 hours or more to see if my changes fix the issue.  So far, I've changed various setting in the BIOS, but nothing helps.  To be honest, I'm not sure what to try.
Thanks in advance for the help everyone!
UPDATE:  I've given up on BIOS setting and switched from fan header from the 4pin CPU to Sysfan5 (spins a full rpm with no fan control) and the PC boots fine.  So, I guess by next step is buy another PWM fan to rule out the fan.  If the 2nd PWM fan does the same thing, can I assume the motherboard is defective?  Or is this a bug?  Just to be sure, I'll leave the fan connected to Sysfan5 over night tonight.
UPDATE2:  This morning, the PC booted just fine when the Kama PWM fan was connected to the a sysfan5.
If someone is using the stock CPU HS and Fan which uses 4pin PWM fan and they're able to use S3 (sleep and wake) properly, please post.  If so, I can assume the motherboard is defective.

I made what I consider the dumbest of all mistakes in that I did not "correctly" follow instructions. I knew that I needed to unplug the unit to let it "reset", but I failed to completely disconnect all the components. The unit was obviously getting some trickle from the battery in the router that also controls my phone. The lesson here is that when you disconnect the power to let it reset, be sure that it is completely disconnected. Lesson Learned! Thanks for the help.

  • 5610 XpressMusic Can't Change Right Selection Key

Hey, recently, i got a new phone, it is Nokia 5610 XpressMusic.
But i had a problem with it.
The problem is that when i was trying to change the shortcut, Right Selection key, it won't work.
I see the Left Selection Key, Navigation Keys, and Active Standby Key. I see those 3, just not RIght Selection Key.
Can anyone help me fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Every person I have talked to at Nokia says that Tmobile has had the phone programing customized. And there is nothing that can be done to change the key.
Everyone at Tmobile said thatit was a phone programming issue, and that Nokia would have to make the changes.
Person at Nokia said that Tmobile would have to send
an Update to the phone to change the programming.
Tmobile operator said, "It can't be done."
Her phone is like that also. The right selection key
is Locked out because Tmobile want's it that way.
No one has a choice in the matter.
I put my phone back in the box and shelved it till I can
    get over it..
I will continue to use my older phone...(which Nokia didn't provide a "ring" for.... Only jiggy music [6133] and won't allow an mp3 "electronic ring" because apparently "ring ring" is copyrighted.
No right selection key programming is allowed... Nokia
and Tmobile don't seem to care what we want.

  • Won't get past white screen on shutdown/restart

When I choose shut down or restart on my 2012 rMBP, it logs out and moves to the white screen. From what I've seen, for an unlimited time.
When it does this (which I think is every time), my only option is press-and-hold standby key - which I hate doing!
This has been a problem since before Mavericks. I've tried resetting pram, repairing permissions etc etc. any other advice?
Even just a list of things to check which I may have already would be appreciated so I can discount them.

Been looking for a solution to this for ages and still no luck.
Even when I boot up in Safe Mode I still get infinite white screen when I shut down!!

    No need to SHOUT.
V11 firmware seems old for something you only picked up "the other day". While in standby, key in *#0000# to get your phone's firmware version.

  • Question RE: OS 5.0 Features

I "accidentally" upgraded to new 5.0 for BBerry 9630.  Phone seems fine, got everything back EXCEPT the email icon no longer displays the YAHOO logo like before.  Can I get that back?  Also, I'm having a hard time finding any comprehensive release notes that show ALL of the changes, including the aesthetic ones.  Any links to that?  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

fyi things i have noticed by way of changes. woooo !! they added the option in sound profiles to choose 1,2,or 3 rings which i greatly missed!! something in main options called custom dictionary, a today feature, and an extra theme, keyboard lock is faster, top right standby key dont work, a file browser, i like the threaded convo options but wish there was option to turn off till i decide if i likie, options in threaded convo to show, not show names, threads feel cramped tho, in options/applications there now is a way to view core apps and third party apps separately.....
just a few things i have noticed hope it helps

  • SOLUTION FOR 3110 RESTARTING!!

Finaly I hawe hawe found the solution for restarting problem!
    1.Format your memory card
2.Make shortcut on your mobile so u can access very fast to your media player
2.1. In SETTINGS/DISPLAY/ACTIVE STANDBY/ACTIVE STANDBY MODE (TURN ON)/PERSONALIZE VIEW (MAKE IT THAT SHORTCUT BAR IS THE ONLY ONE THERE)
2.2. In SETTINGS/MY SHORTSUTS/NAVIGATION KEY make it so that standby key is 2nd
2.3. Get back to main screen and press DOWN key, options, select, select media player, and save, in organise shortcuts make it 1st and save your progress
    3.Upload up to 5 songs
    4. Update your media player, mobile will restart him self! BUT!!!...
    5. In order to stop restarting u have 3 sec to start updating music library again
    6. If u done all at step 2, u need to press fast one time down, central button, left blue line, down, central,up, and central (Need to be pressed in 3 seconds)
    7. If u success in this 6th step u hawe solwed problem!
    8. Next step is to upload next 5 songs and repeat steps 4-6
(9.) If you cant press so fast buttons to restart uploading I suggest to create a folder named "Amp3" so he can be first when u access to your memoru card so you could
erase him fast to stop restarting, instead formating whole card (In SETTINGS/MY SHORTSUTS/LEFT SELECTION KEY(Make it Gallery, so you can access fast to memory card to delete folder "Amp3"))
(10.)Buttons to erase "Amp3" folder - While in main screen press : Left blue line, center, left blue line, down, center, center (Need to be pressed in 3 seconds)
(11.)You hawe stopped restarting and kept pics, and images on memory card
If this work at your phone just tell me because I would like to know did i helped

  • Thinkpad 240X upgrade to Windows XP

...I just acquired a Thinkpad 240x running Windows XP, SP2 in near mint condition, but the screen display is almost completely black.  It powers on and off OK, with the dimly visible "Welcome" letters, and the musical notes at welcome and logging off,  but no toolbars or menus are visible.  After a while the screen saver "Windows" dimly reappears here and there on the screen.  No keys have any effect, brightness keys, switching to external monitor key, standby key, ctl-alt-del, etc.
Does XP install normally on the 240X with no upgrade to the screen driver,  or did the person who did this installation ignore the upgrade advisor.
Could a temporary external monitor be used to find out what software, the screen driver or whatever, could be installed now, that should have been done earlier?
I would much prefer to preserve the XP, as slow as it may be on this machine, but if I run the recovery/restore disks for the original Windows 98 will the screen be activated normally?  Would a procedure to "unstall" XP have to be done before the recovery could be done?   How could this procedure be done if no screen display is present?

    Welcome to the forum!
You're looking at (at least) two different issues here:
    a) The screen that hasn't aged well
    b) An XP install without any IBM add-ons, such as hotkeys.
Default XP video dfriver works fine on 240 machines, and would not affect brightness in the manner that you've described. Therefore, the backlight (CCFL) in the LCD is likely on its way out - not suprisingly given the age of these machines.
You could try to access BIOS (press F1 on boot) and set the machine to boot on both external monitor and LCD, then proceed with any updates needed. You could (I believe - haven't owned a 240x in years) also set the LCD to "high" in BIOS and possibly get a little more life out of it. However, in the long run, swapiing the screen or changing the backlight are in the cards for your ThinkPad.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Home Button is temperamental: reset/restore doesn't resolve issue.

Using iPhone 4 I started to have this problem with iOS 5.0.0 that was carried through to the current release of 5.0.1. I have done multiple resets (Home and Standby key depressed for several seconds etc.) and the restore through iTunes with limited success.I was minded to think that it was a firmware bug but i read somewhere that manufacturing quality control may be a factor too.
True to form my apple care has expired (1 year: thought I’d get an automatic email for renewal - assumption! ); before I press the nuclear button and shout Fit for Purpose at the place where I bought the product I wish to know of any Plan C that other users might know of to solve this annoying bug for my thumb and i fear the pressure on the Home Button will have to be replaced soon.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on ignor the reset
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode use one of these programs
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Replace frirmware. New for another new

    hello!
I just bought a nokia n95 8gb, it came with a italian firmware from TIM, it's a italian telecomunication company. The movile its free, i can use it with the company I want. I would like to have a firmware-software from nokia without any TIM logo or shortcut.
I download upgrade manager soft and already installed but it says that i have last software. How can I install nokia's version in spanish? and get rid of this italian version??
    Thank you
    Oscar.

It is not possible to legally change to another firmware.
I have seen TIM branded N95 8GB and I know that it is possible to change the theme and the right standby key to whatever you want. You can always manually set the interface to the one of the "normal" N95 8GB. The only things you cannot remove are the 1234 icon in the Main menu and Mail (or something - I cannot remember), but you can move these to somewhere deep within the menu, so that they do not stay in the Main menu. Just play a little with Settings -> General.

  • Problems w/ new 5.0 software for Tour

Has anyone else noticed that once you download the new 5.0 software for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 that the standby key doesn't function anymore? (The mute key still fiunctions fine) I'm not sure if this is a problem with Verizon or not, but have had a few Sprint users report the same issue. Also, I noticed that with the new software, I can't have different sms/mms ringer alerts for individual contacts set. Maybe I have my settings all messed up, but I'm a very particular and notice little things like that. Like why are there 3 ways to lock the phone (including a designated speed dial key that can't be changed, the lock button on top of the device, and a lock icon), That's just wasted use of my fuctions. But if anyone knows has any info about the standby function not working, please let me know.

Discussed to death in other threads. The fact that you could press the mute key to go into standby was an accidental feature. Under 5.0 the mute key functions as a mute key.

  • Nokia N80: video help plz

    Hello there,
I'm in somewhat of a rut with my N80.
The videos that I transfer from my pc to my Nokia don't work properly. I get an error from Realplayer, then the sound will begin to play; no picture.
The videos were all converted from avi. to mp4., so I'm not sure how the problem could be incompatible format.
I did transfer and successfully use a video a while back. It was in mp4., also.
I simply can't figure out what the issue might be. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Logical standby and Primary keys

    Hi All,
Why primary keys are essential for creating logical standby database? I have created a logical standby database on testing basis without having primary keys on most of the tables and it's working fine. I have not event put my main DB in force logging mode.

I have not event put my main DB in force logging mode. This is because, redo log files or standby redo logfiles transforms into set of sql statements to update logical standby.
Have you done any DML operations with nologging options and do you notice any errors in the alert.log? I just curious to know.
But I wanted to know that, while system tablespace in hot backup mode,In the absence of both a primary key and a nonnull unique constraint/index, all columns of bounded size are logged as part of the UPDATE statement to identify the modified row. In other words, all columns except those with the following types are logged: LONG, LOB, LONG RAW, object type, and collections.
