Standby Limit
Hello,
Is there any limit of configuring / creating physical and/or logical standby database in different oracle versions and different OSs?
regards.

Ok, Thanks much again. Now following questions are in my mind :
1.My be this 9 limit is due to log_arch_dest_n parameters, but when i am going to create standby through RMAN, there is no talk for log_arch_dest_n parameter?
Yes.Actually with createing standby database there do not talk log_archive_dest_n.But to automatically applying archivelogs to standby database need setting this parameter.
2.Will this 30 for 11g and 9 for 10g limit works same in RAC environment?Yes
3.It means in 11g we can have 30 log_arch_dest_n parameters ?Yes.Read below link

User account management on 11.2.0.3 standby
Hi,
Just came across weird thing in 11.2.0.3 release. If standby database is open in read only with redo apply and you try to connect to standby database with wrong password , your account gets locked.
When I checked dba_user view on standby database it showed user is open (obvious as on primary it is open). On primary I was able to connect with correct password but when tried on standby it gave error account locked.
When fired alter user <username> account unlock ; on standby it said ORA-28015 account unlocked.
This implies in 11.2.0.3 user account status is maintained somewhere else as well. Do anyone knows where?
Tried same in 11.2.0.2, it does not locks the account on standby at all even after repeated wrong password, also does not allow to run alter user <username> account unlock ; command .Hi, had the same issue here: Primary DB shows account is open and DG/Standby also shows account_status open on dba_users view, but when trying to connect with that user on standby instance says account is locked.
If you do 'alter user xxx account lock' on primary db you see the change is transmited ok to standby (querying the dba_user there), then unlock again on primary and see it open again but still standby says that the account is locked when trying to log on there.
This occurs because the account was locked on the standby (limit of wrong passwords attemps was reached on standby.. or something similar). Since the active dataguard cannot alter any tables (is read-only open), then it locks the account IN MEMORY of the standby instance. Thus, you have to unlock directly ON STANDBY, and that's when it says ORA-28015, Account unlocked, but the database is open for read-only access (which means, unlocked ok in memory, problem solved... but didn't change on dba_users table, which is read-only but anyway it's open there already since the problem was not there.) and in fact then you can logon ok on standby.
I think this behaviour is by design for security reasons, because a standby can be attacked as well as a primary db, and obiously cannot depend on a lock provided by the primary which does not know anything of the attack... and standby cannot alter tables... so it's limited to lock changes on memory.
I hope this answers the question.
Best regards. -
i have iphone 4 and when i am using internet via 3g the battery will discharged with in 5hr.,standby limit also 6hr. But in technical specification it is written that standby limit is 300hr and internet over 3g is 7hr. So plz help me out.

Internet Use over 3G
Testing conducted by Apple in May 2010 using preproduction iPhone 4 units and software. Internet over 3G tests were conducted over a 3G network using dedicated web and mail servers, browsing snapshot versions of 20 popular web pages, and receiving mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was turned on; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off. *Battery life depends on the cellular network, location, signal strength, 3G connectivity, feature configuration, usage, and many other factors.* Battery tests are conducted using specific iPhone units; *actual results may vary*. -
Hard drive wakes up immediately after being put into standby
I have an IDE disk which, till now, I used to keep in standby mode (it makes an audible humming noise when it's working which annoys me a lot :<). Today I noticed that after running `hdparm -y' on it, it would spin down but then it would immediately spin up again. I'm certain that the disk isn't being used and doesn't have any partitions mounted anywhere on the filesystem. Still, I'm unable to pinpoint the reason it's waking up.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
Edit: It appears that the disk gets into standby by itself after 10 minutes. I wish I knew where this value is coming from. O.o
Edit2: Those 10 minutes must be coming from `hdparm -S1 /dev/sdb'; maybe the hard drive has a lower limit in regard to this setting. :3
(I'm not sure what kind of information would be useful in order to troubleshoot this issue, but below are some bits I believe are relevant)

$ sudo hdparm -B 254 /dev/sdc
/dev/sdc:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Input/output error
APM_level = not supported
I tried other values also and its always the same error.
I just did another try with -y and the drive stayed in standby during ±40 minutes this time. The most annoying part is that is something that was not happening before I am pretty sure that it would stay in standby for days.
I also included my results for hdparm -I.:
$ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdc

X11 won't start (sets monitor to standby) with nVidia card
Hello everyone!
I'm having some trouble getting my computer to work properly. Yesterday it was working perfectly, but today it would't start again. After some troubleshooting I've determined that the problem lies with X11 and the graphics driver. The bootloader, grub, and arch itself, boots perfectly in runlevel 3, but the moment you run "startx" it would appear to be loading for a while and finally the screen goes to standby mode and there is no way out of that other than reseting the computer using the reset button. I've tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and installing nouveau drivers, but it still won't start X, this time arround, it would just hang up with a white screen.
I've also tried removing xorg.conf and also using nvidia utility to generate a new one, but neither seems to work.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't report any errors, it just gives different info from the configuration and the graphics card and just ends there.
I've tried booting with a debian live USB but it would't boot either (the computer would just restart). I've also tried a Kubuntu live USB, this time arround, it would start to boot but the graphics appeared to be corrupted (strange colored noise all over the screen) and eventually it would just hang up. Using nomodeset Kubuntu finally booted (using vesa I guess?), but the same didn't work in Arch (I'm guessing because I have the nvidia drivers installed instead of nouveau).
In conclussion, something appears to be wrong with the graphics card, I dont't know if it's a software problem or a hardware problem, as it started from one day to the other, without any upgrades in between, and it just doesn't work in any of the 3 distributions I've tested.
Any suggestions in what to do to troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance,
Santiago.-Xorg.0.log

Transcoding Sessions unregistered with CUCM from standby gateway of CUBE with HA usingHSRP
I have 2 C2921 routers working fine untill I enbale CUBE with HA. After configureing HSRP on ethernet interface, the transcoding and conferencing resources were unregistered on HSRP standby router even though I bind the sccp ccm group to physical interface.
Raised Cisco TAC, but they also could not solve yet. Cisco TAC recommanded to have loopback or another interface.
I configure gi02/ without HSRP configuration, but still the transcoding and conferencing resources are not getting registered. Cisco TAC is still analysing the logs.
I am hoping I get resolution here. Configuration of standby router is below.

endI don't have an answer for you but would like to add a note. I was initially configuring and troubleshooting some things on a HA cube pair recently. I was using external DNS for some dial-peer session target lookup and noticed the non-active CUBE could not lookup DNS. When the non-active CUBE became active it could all of a sudden resolve DNS. So I am speculating that something to do with the HA configuration is disallowing communication or bindings preventing routing to the rest of the network from the non-active CUBE. I ended up putting local host records on the router to make me feel better. I am guessing whatever is causing that might be related to the reason your SCCP is loosing registration on the non-active CUBE.
Jaime says what you are trying to do is not supported anyway. I would like a a little clarification on that but what I believe to be supported is if you need transcoding or mtp resources for this CUBE only (Not registered to UCM) then LTI is a good option.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice-unified-communications/unified-border-element/115018-configure-cube-lti.html
Hope any of this helps. I am really commenting so I can track any updates to this thread. :) -

Edited by: phil74 on 12-Aug-2011 07:22Have you checked what your guard status is set to?
SQL> SELECT guard_status from v$database;I've had a similar issue before but with a standby, whereby the status was set to ALL. This means all users apart from SYS are unable to make changes on the database.
My resolution was to set the status to standby:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE GUARD STANDBY;You may wish to set the guard status to NONE however.
I took some notes:
http://juniororacledba.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/oracle-logical-standby-dataguard-error However, I do not have a link to any Oracle documentation on the subject to hand. But might give you a head start. -

Platform : AIX
We have 2 node RAC primary with 2 node RAC standby
Primary Instance1 named as cmapcp1
Primary Instance2 named as cmapcp2

I think log_file_name_convert is set wrongly as you've mentioned. But If I don't want to any change to name of Online or standby redo log files in standby, I don't have to set log_file_name_convert at all. Right ?From Same link
If you specify an odd number of strings (the last string has no corresponding replacement string), an error is signalled during startup. If the filename being converted matches more than one pattern in the pattern/replace string list, the first matched pattern takes effect. There is no limit on the number of pairs that you can specify in this parameter (other than the hard limit of the maximum length of multivalue parameters). -
Oracle 3113 creating a standby with rman
Hello,
environment is 11gR2 on Linux.
Tested on CentOS 5.5 as OS and local LAN as interconnect and the duplicate command terminates successfully in some minutes.
Same script but using oel 5.5 and a wan (3Mbit/s) and I keep getting 3113 errors after about 2h or 3h.
I suspect some timeout on wan (that is over vpn) but I would also like to trace something at my side.
I run a shell script with nohup and send it to background and this is the log, from which you can see the rman script:

Any hints?
BTW: what is the minimum size of undo tbs? Can I have compression enabled also during duplication if transport service is configured with COMPRESSION=ENABLED, or does it count only when copying redo files?
Thanks in advance,
GianlucaThanks for your reply.
I will try your suggestion as it could come useful some time.
So with this alternate method at the end I would have standby aligned as of backup time, correct?
And after running something like this on standby:
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
It will begin to receive, archive and apply redo logs, correct?
Some answers regarding the original question. It was confirmed that there was a 2hours cut-off time at firewall level.
The first datafile that the rman session began to copy was 3.2Gb in size, taking more than 2 hours completing.
Monitoring with netstat on source and target I saw this at source during the duplicate process:
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46626 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46627 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46629 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 369240 10.49.1.93:50371 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
and the session bound to port 50371 was the only one pushing data (send queue not empty).
The other 3 ones I presume are for control of rman session. I get 3 sessions even if I open only one channel on primary side.
After the first datafile completes copy, a new session (with port 14871) is established substituting the other one.
The three initial ones instead remain for all the duplicate process.
tcp 0 487872 10.49.1.93:14871 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46626 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46627 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 10.49.1.93:46629 192.168.12.41:1521 ESTABLISHED
So after the copy of the first file, the session come back to one or more of the initial 3 ones, and they probably make a push-ack, got a 3113 as the firewall has silently cut them after 2 hours.... and the datafile, even if completed, is not marked as completed. A new run would copy again it...
Now the time has been put to 8hours, with 24hours being the maximum value set (no disable possible as far as the network guy said...).
And the duplicate completed correctly.
Would I have to fear any problems with this cut-off due to "normal" dataguard operations or not, in your opinion?
Thanks

Archive log gap is created is standby when ever audit trail is set to DB
Hi
I am a new dba. I am facing a problem at production server that whenever audit_trail parameter is set to db , archive log gap is created at the standby site.
My database version is 10.2.0.4
Os is windows 2003 R2
Audit_trail parameter is set to db only in primary site, after setting the parameter as db when I bounced the database and switched the logfile , archive log gap is created in the standby..I am using LGWR mode of log transport.
Is there any relation beteen audit_trail and log transport ?
Please note that my archive log location of both the sites has sufficient disk space and the drive is working fine. Also my primary and standby is in WAN.
Please help me in this.Any help will be highly appreciated.
Here a trace file which may be helpful to give any opinion.

Are The SDU/TDU settings are configured in the Oracle Net files on both primary and standby ? I will see if I have an example.
The parameters appear fine.
There was an Oracle document 386417.1 on this, I have not double checked if its still available. ( CHECK - Oracle 9 but worth a galance )
Will Check and post here.
I have these listed too. ( Will check all three and see if they still exist )
When to modify, when not to modify the Session data unit (SDU) [ID 99715.1] ( CHECK - still there but very old )
SQL*Net Packet Sizes (SDU & TDU Parameters) [ID 44694.1] ( CHECK - Best by far WOULD REVIEW FIRST )
Any chance your firewall limit the Packet size?

My primary oracle db version is 10.2.0.5 which is n Windows 2003 server 32 bit in file system
My standby database version is 10.2.0.5 which in wondows 2008 server in ASM instance.
some of the archivelogs are not fetching by standby database from primary db.because of that recovery is not happening and it waits for missing archive logs but its not transfering on satndby database.
I tried many time by doing manuall..manuall its hapening but again sometimes its stucks and waits for next missing archivelog.
