Standby Mode in Windows via Boot Camp

So I'm running Windows XP SP2 via Boot Camp, and I've changed my power options so that my laptop doesn't go into standby mode unless I manually put it in there. However, at night, it seems to go into standby mode anyway because when I wake up its in standby mode. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.

  • Uninstalling Windows via Boot Camp, still partitioning after roughly 1 hour

    Hi,
    This is my first post, but I'm a long time searcher. I usually find what I'm looking for, but in this case I thought best to ask. I hope I follow the correct etiquette!
    So today I thought I would have a go at installing Windows XP via Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro. To cut a long story short, I completely messed it up because I (stupidly) read SP1 instead of SP2 on the CD and essentially it didn't install anything from the boot CD's -- as you would expect.
    So after a quick panic I got back running in OS, and have now just tried to uninstall windows using Boot Camp, following the correct instructions, and after around an hour now it's status is still reading: Partitioning disk.....
    Is this to be expected, or is this wrong? Initially I only partitioned 32Gb for Windows as I didn't really want to do anything with it.
    I have done a few searches and got some mixed answers - ranging from it should be instantaneous, to it could take an hour.
    What should I do next?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well......First, I should say that although I've used Macs for many years I'm not an expert by any means. So, take my advice with caution.
    In some ways it seems like, without a full backup, you are sort of between a rock and a hard place =-( I'm not sure what will happen if you force quit the Boot Camp repartitioning. It might be o.k. and it might bugger up your hard drive and require you to reinstall everything. I'm not sure what effect "ejecting" the Windows partition would have.
    I guess at some point you're just going to have to do something. When I get to a point where I am in a situation like you are I search the Internet for as much information as I can get. If I can't find a specific answer to my problem at least I usually get some idea of what to try. Then I just go ahead and start trying things. When you get into that situation it is much less stressful if you have a complete backup. (It's really worth spending the money to buy an external hard drive and start using Time Machine to make a backup.)
    I know that my answer is not much help. Sorry about that. Maybe someone else will chime in with some more useful information. If they don't I guess that you're just going to have to take a plunge =-(

  • I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Please can you help!
    I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Starting a couple of days ago my mouse and keyboard stopped working suddenly.
    How are they connected?   In my case they are wireless and their receiver is plugged into my USB hub.  After an update I found the OS inexplicably not recognizing my USB hub and hence any devices which were plugged into it.  My fix was to
    plug the receiver into a different USB port (so I could use the mouse and keyboard; otherwise I would have had to use the OSK via Touch or pen.)  Once I had normal access into my machine again I used Device Manager to remove all USB controller and
    hubs (including hidden ones) and I then shut down, disconnected all USB devices and powered back up, this time using only Touch to get going.  Once the OS had settled down I started plugging stuff back in the way that I wanted it to be recognized.
    If I didn't have Touch I would have had to have left the wireless receiver plugged in both places which I assume would be OK.  I have no idea why updates have such a catastrophic effect for USB devices.

  • Internal DVD Drive isn't working... must install Windows via Boot Camp

    My internal DVD Drive has died. Just keeps ejecting every CD or DVD I put in it.
    *The real problem is that i need to install Windows via BootCamp...*
    I've already defraged my Hard Drive and partioned it for the Windows installation
    But even using an external USB DVD Drive I couldn't get to boot up from it
    to install Windows XP SP3.
    BootCamp lets me use the windows disc that is inside my external DVD drive
    and it even restarts... but after the restart chime, and the grey screen, it doesn't
    start the windows installation... it continues to boot to my Mac partition.
    (i've tried to manually change the boot disc in System Preferences, but it was in vain)
    I also tried to use another Mac's DVD drive in Target Disk Mode... no results.
    I even tried to Copy-Paste the entire file system of a Windows installation from a BootCamp of a friend but had no success making it to work.
    *Is there any way I can install Windows with my external DVD drive?*
    Because I don't have the cash for buying a new one right now...
    And I really need windows installed via BootCamp...
    Thanks in advance,

    For this problem there no alternative > I bought a new internal DVD drive and then I was able to install Windows via Bootcamp.

  • USB help in XP Mode in Windows 7 boot camp

    I have been running Windows 7 in Boot Camp for quite some time. I need to run a program in windows XP and have installed XP mode in Windows 7.  The USB dongle I need to use for the program is not being recognized. From what I gather USB 3.0 is not supported by windows XP. I am wondering if there is a workaround to be able to utilize the USB dongle in XP mode on a MacBook Pro late 2013 with two USB 3.0 ports.  I tried uninstalling the USB 3.0 extension hub  driver from Intel and this totally negated use of the USB ports.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    From what I have known, not all USB devices will work under XP Mode hubs.
    Also, Windows 7 XP Mode is not capable of detecting or recognizing USB 3.0 ports on the host system.  It is only capable of detecting and recognizing USB 2.0 ports.
    Does the USB device can be detected in the host machine? On the host machine, go to Device Manager, check if USB Virtualization is installed, try to uninstall and re-install it for test.
    Meanwhile, please refer the following article and check the result:

    My superdrive damaged so i use external dvd-rw. Boot camp assistant shows only two options and it recognise my ext dvd-rw then i partition for boot camp partition but after the partition that restarts automatically then blank screen displayed infinitely give me solution.

    Also, If you have a Mac which is a UEFI model, and not in the list as shown by the BC Info.plist file, then a direct UEFI install of Windows 8 (not Windows 7) is possible and works very well.

  • MacBook Pro - Sudden performance drop in Windows via boot camp

    Hi all!
    I am the owner of MBP 2.4 - 8600m gt - 4gb I was using it for around one year with no problem but and from some time I have noticed a big drop of the performance...
    On the boot camp I have COD4 which was running smoothly with 80-125fps but now it is barely 30fps with the same configuration... same story with games like TF2 and L4D..
    What I have tried after this drop:
    * format C: and getting fresh system
    * different graphic drivers
    * playing with directx settings
    * checking the power management
    * reset PRAM, SMC
    * Apple Hardware Test
    * playing without battery
    * tuning fun speed
    nothing helped...!
    I was reading that those MBP have problems with bugged GeForce
    ( * Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
    * No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on) but mine MBP is not having any of those...
    I was also looking online for similar problems and I have found those topic touching same issue with the same model of MBP...:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1583573&tstart=75
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1792525
    some other topics as well but I cannot find them right now.. the problem is that nobody knows why this strange thing occurs...
    Please help me?

    For starters, using a different graphics driver and playing with DirectX settings may make things worse. In general... for any notebook, you should be using the driver from the manufacturer. Unlike desktop graphics cards, notebook GPUs are generally configured specifically for the machine they are used in.
    Playing without the battery will result in SIGNIFICANTLY poorer performance. The system will drop your CPU speed nearly in half when running without the battery. This is by design.
    Doing a clean install is the one thing that you did that I would think would resolve the problem if it were related to Windows. After you did the clean install, did you just use the Apple provided drivers?
    As you mentioned, the problems with some of the nVidia GPUs have generally not resulted in performance issues... but rather stability issues which you do not seem to be having.
    Do you have antivirus software installed? I'm not suggesting a virus, but rather many antivirus programs are set to perform scans automatically in the background which can have a significant impact on performance while the scan is running. Other things such as defragging, etc. can cause performance hits.
    You can launch the Task Manager... click on the "Processes" tab... then click on the "CPU" heading. This will sort your active processes with the highest on top. If you click on the CPU heading and the first few are "0"... click on the heading again (it is probably showing in ascending order instead of descending order). What are the first few items taking up the greatest percentage of your CPU? They may fluctuate a little... but the biggest culprits should stay among the top few.

  • Macintosh HD not showing in after making partion of windows via boot camp

    HI
    I have a MacBook Pro  2012
    recnently made windows 8.1 partition with bootcamp. Been using it for a week and it was fine
    one of my colleague made a partion in the windows OS and we restared the computer and press the alt button to choose the OS and now it only shows Windows oS. The Macintosh and the recovery  icon has disappeared.
    Tried to format the MacBook as they are not any important files. So went to disk utility by holding Command+R. And the in the disk utility It cannot detect the Macintosh Disk !!
    any idea what is wrong.???

    What exactly do you see in disk utilities? Do you see a main drive,such as 250 GB toshiba and then the windows partition slightly indented. Or only the windows drive? If you still have the main drive showing, you can click on it and erase it . Then go to partitions and set one partition click option and set it as a GUID partition. Go back set mac os extended journaled and then click apply. Then you can reinstall the operating system and use bootcamp to reinstall windows.

  • Could not install Visual Studio 2013 in Windows 7 via Boot Camp

    Hi there,
    For a intro to programming class, I was required to install Visual Studio Express for Windows Desktop on my machine. Because I use a MacBook Pro Retina 13 , I had to install a copy of Windows via Boot Camp. I decided to install a copy of Windows 7 as I had
    a license with me on hand.
    Unfortunately, I had trouble installing Visual Studio as it gives me a fatal error for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 during installation

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp no longer recognize my wireless mouse and Keyboard?

    I have a mid 2011 27in iMac on 10.9.1 and I run Windows 7 via boot camp, sometimes Parallels as well. Today I tried to boot up in to Windows via Boot Camp, but I can not control the cursor or input anything via kayboard. This has happened before and I only got it working again after reinstalling Windows, which I am REALLY trying to avoid
    The thing is, when I boot in to Windows, it is definitely responding to the keyboard when I hold F8 to go in to safe mode, but once the desktop loads up, I lose any function of mouse or keyboard. Even when I try to manually add a device using a USB mouse, it is not detecting any wireless device.
    Both my Magic Trackpad and Wireless Keyboard work fine in OS X, Windows 7 when in Parallels and works during the start up of boot camp, but not when Windows 7's desktop boots up.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    You have to download the drivers. To download them, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into Mac OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to download them. You will have to burn them onto a DVD or USB drive, so you will be able to install the drivers on Windows. Then, it should work fine.
    If you can't download them in Boot Camp Assistant, download the drivers from this website > http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers The links are from Apple and that's safe to download and install

  • Windows 7 boot camp

    Hello. I got little problem today with bootcamp.
    Few days ago I updated yousemite and bootcamp worked fine after that. Today I used yosemite and remember my partion in bootcamp is getting small and I wanted to give more space for windows. Sure I wasn`t able to just drag more space for bootcamp so I thought it could be ok to do new partion in machintosh disk in windows format as well and I made 3rd disk there as planning to be able to use that disk in windows. After that I continued my suff with os x and later tried to start windows via boot camp as I always do. Mac started reboot and suddenly black screen came and top left there was blinking line ( - ) and nothing happened after 10min.
    So I just shut down my mac by pressing the on/off button and started it as os x after that. Went to disk ultility and removed that extra partion what I did earlier and tried to start windows again and same thing happened. When I`m booting my mac and pressing alt while that I`m not able to choose boot camp. I can just choose os x or recovery 10...
    I also ran os x repair stuff and tried again but didn`t work. In general I think everything should be like before I did any new partion. But simply cannot choose bootcamp but I`m able to see bootcamp in disk ultility and I can choose restart mac using boot camp when using os x.
    Sure I don`t have any back ups, so it`s kind a ankward. Hope I can start use windows/bootcamp without reinstall it.
    So in the nutshell when I trying to boot windows when using os x I can choose start as a windows using bootcamp and after that it starts booting. After that black screen appear and I can see only white line in top left in the screen. Nothing really going to happen after that.
    And when I`m booting and pressing alt I`m not able to choose bootcamp, just os x or recovery.

    here.

  • IMac 27" Target DIsplay Mode + Answer to Windows 7 Boot Camp Install

    First, I'd like to address the handful of complaints I've come across about installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp on the new 27"iMac.
    The issue of the screen going blank when almost done has an easy albeit annoying answer. Simply connect the iMac to an external display, I used a small vga lcd with the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. When the iMac's screen goes black the external lcd will continue, and when Windows 7 starts up it will download the updated ATI drivers. From there alls well.
    Second, my problem.
    Target Display Mode is a great feature. It worked great when I first used it, and it works great now except for the fact that the Command+F2 button combination stopped working. I have to manually unplug my MacBook Pro in order to get my iMac's original screen up. At first Command+F2 would allow me to switch back and forth, and now it does nothing.
    Any suggestions?

    Well, the usual first things to try for a display-related issue are
    Reset PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    and of that does not help, reset SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
    which is basically unplugging the iMac from power and reconnecting it following the precise procedure.
    Note: After resetting PRAM, you should go to System Preferences +Startup Disk+ pane to make sure your internal drive is selected (highlighted) as the startup disk.
