Standby problem with 10.6.6

I updated from 10.6.6 this morning and ever since I can not get this thing to come back from standby when I shut the lid. I might get the login but the keyboard doesn't respond but usually I get a black screen with a cursor arrow and no response. Thanks Apple EPIC FAIL!!!

  • T60 - Standby problems with long in activity

    Hi All,
    Hopfully someone can point me in the right direction with a issue i'm having with one of the T60 Thinkpads.
    Here's the run down:
    We brought 3 T60's (type 6369-A56) last december (online web sale). 1 of the three is displaying problems when dealing with standby mode. If the laptop goes into standby mode for longer than anywhere between 30mins to 1hr the laptop doesn't resume from standby when you either open the lid of the laptop or use the Fn function key. When either action is taken to bring the laptop out of standby mode the cresent moon LED remains lit, the HDD LED lights up for a breif second and then turns off, the power indicator turns on and say's solid, the screen remains blank at all times. When this happens you can hear/feel the HDD spinning up and doing something and you can also hear the processor fan spin into action as if it were coming out of standby. Having mains power doesn't seem to make a difference with this problem.
    I've already spoken to Lenovo support RE this matter and they believe it is a software related problem. I've done some further testing to try and determine that, this is what I've done...
    I took a Norton Ghost image of one of the 2 working T60's HDD's (standby works perfectly on the other two laptops) and used that Image to ghost the HDD in the faulty T60, this gave me two Identical laptops (hardware and software). The power scheme for the laptop is as follows, Turn off Display @ 5mins, go into Suspend Mode @ 15mins. I left both laptops alone at exactly 9:05, 5mins later the screens when blank, @ 15mins later both went into standby mode. 45mins after standby mode had kicked in I came back to both laptops and used the Fn key to resume the laptops(at the same time) and the faulty T60 didn't come back from standby and the same symptons as mentioned eariler happened.
    After that happen I decied to see what would happen if I switched the HDD's between the laptops (hdd from faulty laptop into the working laptop, hdd from working laptop into faulty laptop). After switching the HDD's over I ran the same tests as above. Again 45mins after standby mode had been active I used the Fn key to resume from standby and the laptop with the hdd from the faulty laptop worked straight off the batt, however the hdd from the working laptop in the faulty laptop displayed the same problems as mentioned above, thus ruling out the software as the cause of the problem.
    My question is, knowing all of that, where is the issue likly to be? Is it going to be RAM related or board related?
    Is the likley outcome going to be returning it to Lenovo for repair?
    Cheers
    Chris
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Cedric,
    At the time the tests were done, both were using battery power (levels were as close as ai could get them at the time, but they were around the 85% mark when the first test was carried out), however as mentioned in my OP the problem is still there when using Mains or Battery power.
    Hibernation is disabled on both laptops (it was disabled before I created the Ghost HDD Image, I have checked that both still have it disabled)
    Just to satisfy your curiosity, the faulty T60 already had the latest BIOS updates installed as apart of some intital testing that I had performed (its running System BIOS version 7IET32WW), however the working laptop was running the previous version. I've since updated that system and both are now running the same version.
    Since upgrading the BIOS so that they both match, I decided to Load BIOS defaults (F9) with only 1 change (that change is to the SATA Mode from AHCI to Compatibility) to both machines.
    I ran the same tests as before, but this time using mains power and the problem is still present on the original laptop displaying the symptoms. There also seems to be a second issue which is related to this problem, if i shut the laptop down and try to reboot 9 out of 10 times i get the following message:
    Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
    You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
    Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair
    No sometimes I can restart the machine again and it will boot into WindowsXP, however most times I cannot. And a repair will resolve the issue but not always.
    In regards to any BIOS settings, there aint that many options in the bios that deal with power management (nothing that I can see that deal with standby mode), whats the problem you've seen with the hibernate function?
    Cheers
    Chris

  • X200 standby problem without ultrabase

    I have a refurb X200 and just the basic software so far Win XP Pro 32bit. I updated power manager and drivers and patch from the Lenovo site. When I first put it into standby either by closing the lid, Fn F4 or the start menu it goes into standby in about 3 secs. and recovers in the same time when asked to. On the second and subsequent times I try to use standby (after a reboot) it takes about 16mins to reach standby - in the meantime it shows a screen with "preparing for standby" and the system is inaccessible.  When it finally goes into standby it can be recovered in the normal 2-3 secs.The only way to gain control while it is going into standby is a hard shut down. Following this I again have one normal standby operation. I note people having standby problems with the ultrabase but I haven't tried this yet.

    I would like to share with you that it might be because of software issue.
    To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your notebook from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/default.page
    After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.
    Regards,
    Sameer

  • Re: Standby Problem Windows XP with Satellite L350-172

    Hello
    After waking up the system it works a few minutes proper but than i see bluescreen abd immediate reboot.
    Do you also have those problems?
    What can i do

    Hi!
    On my Satellite L300 I dont have problems with the standby.
    Maybe a driver causes the problem or your BIOS should be updated.
    For driver and BIOS updates visit the Toshiba website:

  • Problems with standby mode in Windows XP

    Every time I try to put my computer in standby mode while in Windows the entire computer shuts down. I can't even manually turn on the computer in Mac until I press the power button mulitple times. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Tony, some posters have reported that the XP drivers for the Vostro 1500 will work for the M1330.
    Vostro 1500 XP downloads
    However before installing any Sigmatel driver after an OS installation you should follow this order of driver installation:
    a. Install Dell Notebook System Software R154270 (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.
    b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver 153997 (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.
    c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver R158235 (click the + sign next to Audio).
    Some v1500 users have reported that they had to "uninstall an unknown PCI device in Device manager first , then install the driver normally".
    Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.
    A previous poster was able to get his audio working by following the above instructions more or less He said that after installing the Chipset driver he next uninstalled the unknown PCI device. He let Windows look for a new driver but he said he had to point it to the folder with the driver. Then he wrote, "Xp still said that an error occurred and the device may not work properly, but it did work fine and I also don't have a yellow question mark..." I know this is confusing.

  • Problem with a Standby Database

    Hello,
    if have some problems with a special standby database. why special? because i try it whit another, which was newly build with oracle tools and everything works. I mean the redo log transfer and the log apply and everything.
    At first I try to use the DGM, to guide me through the process, but this manager didn't start to copy anything of the database files. So I make an offline backup from the database as you can see in the oracle data guard doc. later on I used the DGM again to build a data guard configuration. Everything seems to be fine. But then I get ORA-16778: log transport service for some site has an error AND ORA-16766: physical apply service unexpectedly offline.
    I don't know what to do now. I really try to help myself but it always stop at this point.
    By the way ... merry Xmas!!!

    Hi,
    ORA-16766: physical apply service unexpectedly offline.You must check in the alert log why the MRP is going down, the info is in this file.
    In order to get more comments, give us a "snapshot" of your install:
    . Release
    . Configuration
    . Folders structures
    . init file (pfile/spfile) contents
    And paste the MRP error stack from the alert log.
    Regards,
    Yoann.

  • Problems with second standby database

    Hello All,
    I have oracle 10gr1. 1 primary db and 2 physical standby and 1 is in the same network with the primary and the other is on a remote network. The primary and the standby on the same network is working perfectly well. My problem is with the remote standby. Some log are not being archived. See output below
    SEQUENCE# ARC APP
    1755 YES NO
    1761 YES NO
    1772 YES NO
    1774 YES NO
    1782 YES NO
    1789 YES NO
    I get this error RFS[10]: "Possible network disconnect with primary database". I think it has something to do with the network connectivity of my second standby and the master db. What parameters should I tweak to avoid this?
    Another thing is arhived logs from seq 1728 were not being applied. I tried manually recovering the archive log from 1728 but it says there is an error in the log. I tried getting the specified archive log from the master db and tried recovering it manually but still the same. How would I solve tjhis problem? Would rebuilding the second standby do the trick? Help needed badly.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi,
    About seq 1728, if the archive has been lost or alterred, you'll have to rebuild the standby. At least take a backup of the first standby and restore the datafiles at the second standby.
    About network connectivity, are you using DataGuard? If so, did you setup the FAL (Failed Archive Logs) server/client parameters on your standby? You can even set your fal_server as being both the primary and first standby..
    You should investigate the network connectivity problem with your network administrator. Check alert log and trace files plus sqlnet logs to see when/where/why the communication with distant site fails sometimes.
    HTH,
    Yoann.

  • K8t Neo2 problem with resume from standby after BIOS flash

    Previously while using the 3.2 BIOS and a Winchester 3200+, Both Standby and hibernation worked perfectly almost without fail.  Since I flashed the BIOS to 9.3 and installed an X2 4200+ I have had a problem with resume from standby.  The machine starts up OK but the 2nd processor core (cpu1) is almost maxed out and stays that way.  Task manager shows total cpu load as about 45-50% (all on cpu1) but shows no running process using any cpu load, just the usual System Idle process at about 99%.  The only way to get it back down to normal again seems to be to reboot.  By Contrast Hibernation works fine, with no increase in cpu load after resume.  I have all the latest MS patch's installed (I think!) the AMD dual core driver and the MS and AMD dual core optimizers.  Any ideas what is going on?

    Noticed last night that S! standby seems to work OK.  Also was experimenting with a fresh windows install on a spare hard drive (checking on another problem).  The fresh windows install appeared to work with S4 hibernation, so it looks like that is the answer to that problem.  However the problem with high cpu load on the second core after resume from S3 suspend to RAM standby was still present.  This problem is so specific and so repeatable (it does it every time without fail), that I feel there must be some very well defined reason for it.  Unfortunately I have no ideas what could be wrong. Have now tried Windows re-install, latest cpu drivers, AMD dual core optimizer, MS dual core optimizer, Cool'n'quite disabled/enabled, and various others and suspend to RAM still gives the same behaviour

  • Problem creating physical Standby database with RMAN

    Hi All
    I am trying to learn oracle dataguard and as part of the process learning creating standby database.
    Platform : Sun-Fire-V250 Sparc, Solaris 10
    Database Version - Oracle 11R2
    I am creating standby database on same server, so directory structure is different.
    Following the instructions on Oracle site I managed to create a functional physical standby database. But I am not able to create standby database using RMAN. These are the steps that I followed-
    1.Set up all necessary parameters on primary database as done while creating physical standby database manually, eg setting force logging, creating standby logs etc.
    2.Edited parameter file on primary database as done while creating manual pysical standby database creation. Some of the changes done are-
    On Primary Database:
    *.FAL_CLIENT='orcl11020' #Primary database unique name
    *.FAL_SERVER='stdby_11' #Standby database unique name
    db_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020'
    log_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020','/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11/redo_mem','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020/redo_mem'
    standby_file_management=auto
    *.log_archive_config='DG_CONFIG=(orcl11020,stdby_11)'
    *.log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/<dir>/flash_recovery_area/ORCL11020/archivelog
    VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) db_unique_name=orcl11020'
    *.log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=stdby_11 LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) db_unique_name=stdby_11'
    *.LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_1='ENABLE'
    *.LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2='ENABLE'
    *.LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT='%t_%s_%r.arc'
    *.LOG_ARCHIVE_MAX_PROCESSES=30
    Copied same pfile for standby database and modified following-
    *.control_files='/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11/stdby_11.ctl','/<dir>/fra_stdby/stdby_11/stdby_11.ctl'
    *.db_name='orcl1102'
    *.db_unique_name='stdby_11'
    *.FAL_CLIENT='stdby_11'
    *.FAL_SERVER='orcl11020'
    db_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020','/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11'
    log_file_name_convert='/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020','/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11','/<dir>/oradata/orcl11020/redo_mem','/<dir>/oradata/stdby_11/redo_mem'
    standby_file_management=auto
    *.log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/<dir>/fra_stdby/STDBY_11/archivelog
    VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) db_unique_name=stdby_11'
    *.log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=orcl11020 LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)
    db_unique_name=orcl11020'
    3. Add relevant information in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files and then restart listener.
    3. Created password file with same credential as primary database.
    4.Up-to-date RMAN backup of primary database available.
    5.Create standby controlfile with rman
    While primary database s open (I tried with primary database in mount mode as well)-
    $>rman catalog rman/paswd@rman target /
    RMAN> BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE FOR STANDBY;
    6. Open a new terminal and startup standby database in nomount mode using parameter file created -
    $>ORACLE_SID=stdby_11
    $>export ORACLE_SID
    $>sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL>STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile='<location/initfilename.ora'
    SQL>quit
    $> rman AUXILIARY / target sys/passwd@orcl11020 catalog rman/passwd@rman
    RMAN>DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY DORECOVER;
    RMAN finishes without error but archive logs are not being tranported. Looking at the log, following caught my eye-
    Error 1017 received logging on to the standby
    Check that the primary and standby are using a password file
    and remote_login_passwordfile is set to SHARED or EXCLUSIVE,
    and that the SYS password is same in the password files.
    returning error ORA-16191
    FAL[client, ARC2]: Error 16191 connecting to orcl11020 for fetching gap sequence
    Errors in file /<>dir>/diag/rdbms/stdby_11/stdby_11/trace/stdby_11_arc2_24321.trc:

    ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby
    So on both primary and standby I confirmed
    SQL> show parameter remote_login_passwordfile
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    remote_login_passwordfile string EXCLUSIVE
    To make double sure that password files are same, I shutdown both databases, delete password files and recreated with same credentials.
    Password files are called - orapworcl11020 and orapwstdby_11
    Can someone guide me where thisngs are going wrong here please.

    Not sure if I understood it clearly.
    SELECT * FROM V$ARCHIVE_GAP;
    returns no rows so there is no gap.
    But could you please explain me the result of the previous query. To catch up again, on standby when I check
    SELECT SEQUENCE#,APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
    SEQUENCE# APPLIED
    75 NO
    74 NO
    76 NO
    77 NO
    I understand that though archive files have been copied across but they are not applied yet.
    On primary when I give your query -
    SELECT name as STANDBY,SEQUENCE#,applied, completion_time
    2 FROM v$archived_log
    3 where dest_id=2
    4 and sequence# BETWEEN 74 and 80;
    I get -
    STANDBY SEQUENCE# APPLIED COMPLETIO
    stdby_11 74 YES 28-JUN-11
    stdby_11 75 YES 28-JUN-11
    stdby_11 76 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 77 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 78 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 79 YES 29-JUN-11
    stdby_11 80 YES 29-JUN-11

    stdby_11 74 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 76 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 77 NO 07-JUL-11
    stdby_11 78 NO 07-JUL-11
    I have intentionally given
    sequence# BETWEEN 74 and 80
    because I know in the current incarnaion of the database, max sequence is 78.
    So my understanding is, the rows between 28-29 June are from previous incarnation, correct me if I am wrong
    Archive files of the current incarnation, since I successfully created standby database are shipped but yet to be applied - am I right?
    Then my final question is, when will these archives be applied to standby database?
    I am sorry to ask too many questions but I am just trying to understand how it all works.
    Thanks for your help again

  • Standby data Gurad 10g switchover problem with application

    Hi!
    I'm working on oracle 10g and try to make standby datagurad with same dbname eg. if my primary database name is orcl then my standby database should be orcl with same location because one of mine application is accepting only orcl not standbyorcl.
    Because when I'm doing switchover to standby database application not able to read standbyorcl and application result through error and close.
    Could any one help me to make init.ora parameter for primary and standinit.ora for standby with same database name.

    You should use an Application Service instead of the standard Database Service in the first place to take care of Role Changes in your Data Guard configuration properly.
    Look here for an example:

  • X200 Ultrabase problems with Standby and Hibernate

    My system (x200) hangs on standy or hibernate when docked.  Off the dock everything works fine.  I am running XP with all the updated drivers (at least the update utility says so).  Anybody else have this problem or know the solution?
    To put it another way: Is the Ultrabase ACPI compliant?  Does anybody hibernate succesfully while docked?

    After updating Vista Business, Bios and Driver which took several hours, Lenovo changed the Ultrabase within one day.The probleme with sleepmode, hibernation and shutdown has gone until I plugged the DVD drive into the Ultrabase!
    Could you confirm that the X200 could go into hibernate- or sleepmode with or without DVD drive?I now will open a new ticket at Lenovo for change the DVD drive.

  • Iphone 4 battery sometimes drains fast -- problem with Mail app?

    My iphone 4 battery often drains too quickly, and I wonder if it has something to do with my Mail App.
    When my phone is not playing nice, it drains at least 20% overnight while on Standby, and from 100% to 30% in around 6 hours when I use it during the day. I found a fix (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11775150) that basically says to wipe your mail account and set it up again.
    This fix works, but only temporarily for me. I find that I have to keep resetting my mail every few days to get back to "normal battery" where it barely drains overnight. I only use one email account (gmail) -- could there be something going on there?
    Oh, and when my battery drains fast, nothing changes when I turn off WiFi, notifications, push, etc. I usually have my mail refresh hourly.
    Has anyone had this experience?
