Did you have a look at the dataguard docs,
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10700/standby.htm#i72073
Which has this mentioned quite clearly,
    >
Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition.
    Note:
It is possible to simulate a standby database environment with databases running Oracle Database Standard Edition. You can do this by manually transferring archived redo log files using an operating system copy utility or using custom scripts that periodically send archived redo log files from one database to the other. The consequence is that this configuration does not provide the ease-of-use, manageability, performance, and disaster-recovery capabilities available with Data Guard>
So if you want to have data guard, use Enterprise Edition.

Please help As i am running out of time as i have to upgrade TFS for that first step is to install SQL server.

    Hello,
The following are a few things you can try:
Copy the media to the local disk drive, unzip it (in case you are installing from an ISO file, and run SQL Server setup from there.
Try to unregister and register the Windows Installer with the following two commands:
    msiexec /unregister
    msiexec /regserver
Try to use Process Monitor to log the detailed error produced when the installation of dw20sharedamd64.msi fails. You can download Process Monitor from the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
Share with us the error captured by Process Monitor.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
unfortunately it is impossible to trace the cause if an improper shutdown from just the event (title).

Is there any issue/conflicts/limitationn to install MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition.
OR their is nothing to worry about it I guess their is memory limitation between both of them. Please suggest

    Hi,
Here you can find the officially Hardware and Software Requirements for SQL Server 2008 R2:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.105).aspx
There should be NO problem as much as I know if the basic limitation fit you (as shanky mentioned).
I had (an clients still have) several servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard & SQL
Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Standard with no problem (today I have one old developing server with this exact installations work great for several years).

  • Difference between Oracle9i Standard Edition and Oracle9i Enterprise Editio

    Hi,
Can someone please tell me what is the difference between the Oracle9i Standard Edition and Oracle9i Enterprise Edition.
    Regards

First, if you want Enterprise Options like Partitioning, you need to have Oracle Enterprise Editions. Note that partitioning is not included in an Enterprise Edition license ! You have to buy the option separatly (+25% of price).
A good reason to use EE is the ability to scale to more than 4 cpus...
Note that on some systems like Solaris 10, you can use SE with a multi-cpu machine, you just need to create projects and allocate at most 4 cpus for the oracle user.
Check with your sales representative for some coefficients per core depending on your architecture .

  • What do you recommend to resize a partition on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2?

I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 and only have 2.74GB of hard drive space left on a 11.9 GB hard drive.  My D:\ drive has 37.5GB of free space left on a 124GB Hard drive.  I would like to know what software is
recommended to repartition drive size or another way to repartition drive.
    Thanks

You just need to shrink partition D and get some unallocated space, and then you can extend the system drive with the Unallocated space. There is no need to delete or format partitions.
The most important is guarantee data security. I have such experience resizing partitions.
The partition tool required reboot to  process, after a while power off in my office, I know the Server must be damaged. Later, when I turn it on, I cannot believe, it continue to process and reboot to desktop several minutes later. What a lucky man.

  • Physical Standby database Oracle 10g Standard Edition

    Hello,
I open a new question about testing a standby database a because of this:
I realize that my standby database is 10g Standard and not Enterprise and not 11g.
Because for testing we plan to modify data on Standby, we are looking for some way to restore Standby to the point before testing.
So, I can't use Flashback Recovery Area for restoring my database to a certain point after testing.
In this scenario, the only way that I think is:
    On Standby
    - Shutdown database
    - Copy by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs. That will be my backup before testing.
    - Open database, test and modify data
    - When test is finished, shutdown database
    - Copy and replace by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs from backup place
    - Open database as standby and apply all archived redo logs needed.
Would be it work without problem or should I copy other files?

it comes under Refresh of database, use --> cleanup --> restore.
If its enterprise edition , you can use procedure mentioned in this note How To Open Physical Standby For Read Write Testing and Flashback [ID 805438.1]

  • Manual standby Oracle 11.1 standard edition

I have set up a standby DB for Oracle 11.1 standard edition.
Everything is done manually by using batchfiles and scripts.
Logiles are copied from the primary server to the standby server but when I try to register those I get an error ORA-00439: featue not enabled : managed standby
Do I need enterprise edition for this ? I thoguht it was possible to set up a physical standby if you do the logshipping yourself without using data guard.

Yes I know data guard is only available in Enterprise edition.
Hence I scripted the whole process and copy the archive logs myself.
So this means that doing this manually also won't work since it won't let me register the logfiles. I have done this in Oracle 10 standard edition. Guess my customer will need Enterprise version as from V11 then...

  • Standby Database with Oracle Standard Edition

    Hi,
my customer wants to create a standby database for his production database (Oracle Standard Edition 11g R2 @ Windows 2008 R2 64 Bit). Now has somebody a proof-of-concept which explains shortly the concept and how to achieve it.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Martin

    Hi
We have the following options :
    1. Oracle Enterprise Edition (EE) - Will have automatically 'Oracle DataGuard' option. No extra license for Oracle DataGuard. We have to purchase Oracle EE for both the sites.
    2. Oracle Standard Edition (SE) - Will not have 'Oracle DataGuard' option. So we can't implement Standby database.
    3. Oracle Standard Edition (SE) - Will not have 'Oracle DataGuard' option. If you want to implement disaster recovery site we have to purchase Oracle GoldenGate for both the sites. But we have to Oracle GoldenGate license for both the sites
    Thanks

  • Standby synchronization in 11g Standard Edition.

I have to synchronize standby with primary but in Standard edition I can not use automatic mechanism.
I don’t want to use commercial staff like Pervasync.
How can I achieve this? May I e.g. generate archive and/or control files, next “manually” send and put these to standby?
