Standing Apple TV Upright

Does anyone know if I can stand my Apple TV on it's side?
Charlie

There are vertical mounts for the tv available from 3rd party vendors, I see no problems mounting it vertically per se, however you will need to ensure adequate ventilation as per any installation and also ensure the IR receiver is able to receive the IR signal from the remote.

  • Removing stand from Apple display

We have an Apple 17' Studio Display(blue case)-probably 6 years old-a large bulky thing with a plastic tripod stand(Apple family M6496.). I would like to remove this stand so I can package this monitor to ship to another school. The stand moves forward or back in one direction only, and feels like it is attached to a band or spring mechanism of some kind.Anyone know if or how I can removed this piece.
    Thanks
    John S

    John,
I responded once but it did not post. The fastener, to the best of my knowledge, is inside and requires more dismantling than you may wish. It is an Apple design so do not expect quick release tabs like 90% of the PC monitors out there.
Is there some reason a bigger box is not acceptable?

  • Family sharing between two existing Apple ID accounts?

    Greetings,
My wife and I have two long standing Apple ID accounts and were exciting at the prospect of Family Sharing in iOS8. What we would like to do is to be able to see and share the purchases we have made over the years instead of having to log into each other's accounts. It appears that we can't create a family group with both ID's however. Does anyone have any suggestions conceding the best way to accomplish what we are trying to do?

    Hello there, Matt.
Family Sharing is one of the exciting service that rolled out with iOS 8. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regards to how sharing works:
Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201085
One additional point is addressed, in this article:
Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing
    https://www.apple.com/icloud/family-sharing
    Get organized.
To get started, one adult in your household — the organizer — invites up to five additional family members and agrees to pay for any iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases they initiate while part of the family group. Once family members join, the features of Family Sharing are set up on everyone’s devices automatically.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Apple Cinema Display & Power Adapter

I just picked up a new 23" ACD, got it hooked up to my MBP. I had the power adapter box standing vertically on my desk. Anyways, While I was working on organizing the cables, SLAM!, the power adaper box tipped over onto the desk. now sitting horizontally from the 90 degree tip. Do I have anything to worry about such as internal damage to the power adapter?
Also, how come the manual said not to carry the display by the stand? But it just make more sense carrying the display by the stand, this way not having the screen itself lift that heavy-weight stand.
    MacBook Pro - 15.4" Glossy , Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My desk top is made of wood board, so it can echoes major sound from just small impact. The power adapter was standing vertically, then tips and lays flat horizontally. Sort of like a iPod tips over when it's not correctly connected into the dock.
I just shook power adapter to hear for any sound of any internal components broken off. Turned out no sound but a tiny bit of stiff rattling. Though it's still function, I'm still paranoid and worried.
As for carrying the ACD, Dave you made a good point, I dont really think it'll hurt if holding it by the stand upright position, which I did. The manual probably meant not to hold it by the stand upside down or in a 90 degress position, which increases the chance of the screen knock into something. The stand secures the screen and it's designed to hold the weight of the screen, I don't see why carrying this display by the stand in a upright position will be a issue.

  • Has anyone got a solution for the inability to update or reinstall itunes 10.6.3 on a windows 7 64 bit computer

I have been unable to update or reinstall Itunes to my windows 7 64 bit computer.  I have tried most of the suggestions to date to no avail.  My outcome is a dialog box that says itunes was not installed. . .  At one point, it created a situation where my CDDVD drive was disabled but a windows troubleshooter got that back working citing a "class filter driver problem" that it repaired.  Also, Itunes comes up and plays from the optical drive (and the hard drive) but will not write to the CD or refresh my podcast list.  Anyone?

  • OSX 10.5.8, iTunes 10 and iPhone IOS7

I use a Mac G5 PPC running OSX 10.5.8 so that I can edit on Final Cut Studio 6, which I use as a professional editor.  Final Cut Studio 6 is not supported on the current Mac Intel operating systems (and I cannot upgrade to 7 because you no longer sell it ). Also, iTunes 10 is the highest version of iTunes that can run on my PPC.
Two days ago, I had a phone with all my music on it however to manually sync new tracks onto it because of an iTunes library issue, I had to select to manually manage my music tracks which deleted everything and required me to have to re-add everything.  Before I did that, I updated my apps via the iTunes store. I also upgraded my iPhone 4s to IOS7 after many applications I had already updated started running slow in the past two months. and I finally gave in to the system settings exclamation point prompt. Upon upgrading my IOS and plugging it into my G5, I was then greeted with a prompt informing me to upgrade my iTunes because the version I was running would not sync with IOS7.  However, iTunes 11 is not available for my G5 PPC, and consequently, I cannot sync any of my personal data from contacts, calender dates, or music files to my "smart phone".  Nor can I back up my iPhone onto my computer for safety. What a shock that with that exclamation point prompt to upgrade to IOS7, there was no warning this would happen to those of us without iTunes 11 and that we can't downgrade back to the older IOS so that we may sync our G5s with the phone we rely on for productivity outside our home offices.
I shelled out the annual $24.99 fee to subscribe to iTunes match, but I am still faced with the inability to sync my phone to the computer I work on and it's taking days to upload my music on my internet connection.
My G5 serves me well with the software I rely on to earn my living (FCP 6 Studio) and I do not feel I should be compelled to purchase an entirely new computer with Intel to sync my phone to my data or work professionally on FCPX which none of my peers use within the professional community I work in.
Please tell me why as a long-standing Apple customer, I should ever purchase another iPhone again given your company's unwillingness to release a version of iTunes 11 for those of us using perfectly operating G5 PPCs to sync one Apple product with another?

This is a user to user forum - you aren't talking to Apple here. I'm afraid all we can do is sympathize - you have described the situation exactly. Whenever you do any system upgrade it's advisable to check on its requirements - that for iOS7 presumably indicates that iTunes 11 is required. I'm sorry to say that there is no solution for your situation.

  • Can't find certain music on Zen Style

    %?Hello!
My partner has a Style and whilst most of it works fine, one particular album we have loaded onto it cannot be found when trying to play it on the device. The computer recognises it (both WinAmp and Creative MediaSource Organiser, as well as bog standard Windows. We can't fathom out Centrale - it doesn't recognise it at all!). I have tagged and re-tagged everything, album, artist, song titles (using assorted programmes to do it too), but the only way my partner can get the songs to play is by leaving it on random play and eventually one of them will come up, she then gives it a 5* rating and then can only find the songs by searching for stuff with 5*s. I've tried dumping everything into a playlist but it doesn't recognise that either.
Between us, it's the 5th Creative device we've had so it's not like we're new to the company's products - hope one of you has an answer for us, it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks very much!

It seems that this problem is prevalent..just read around the forum and there seems to be no solution to the fact that there is no way for the creative software to recognize large portions of your computer's mp3 files...so if you want a creative, I am now selling mine on ebay here?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260777062956#ht_500wt_ 56
As much as I can't stand Apple, it seems I am going to have to go back to using an
Ipod--at least that recognizes all the files on my hard dri've.

  • Imac startup issues- green vertical lines changing to grey screen

Help!  I think my 27" i7 iMac just died!
Yesterday morning, I had a kernal panic while using Safari.  Restarted, ran disk utility twice.  A bunch of "library shoyuld be r- instead of -rw" type errors that could not be repaired were found both times.
After second round of computer restart/disk utility, the computer started displaying green lines running vertically down the grey screen.
After around a minute and a half, the screen became grey only, no green lines- no apple logo.
I attempted to restart holding down the shift key, I saw the startup/repair process "kick in" (the horizontal repair bar running across the bottom of the screen).
Once that was finished, I got about a minute and a half worth of "spinning cursor" and then a pretty blue-lined screen (of death)
(NOTE--bright white lights are flash from camera- not on screen)
I cannot access anything now.  I know that I am running whatever the current version of OS 10.8X is now.
I am stuck- anybody got any ideas?

I have to have my serial number to give them to start the call.  I have no way to access the serial number on the computer because I cannot advance past the grey/blue screen to access it.  Is there a way to get the serial number on this computer off of the hardware itself?
Look on the bottom of the stand, Apple used to print them there I don't know if they still do or not. Also if you have the original box it's printed on that too.
In addition if you click about this Mac and click the version of OS X installed a couple of times the serial number will appear. In addition you can run System Information and get the serial number there too.
Finally it's not going to do much good to call Apple, you need to take the machine in for repair at your local Apple Store or AASP. I suspect your graphics card has failed.

  • TIME EXPIRED! I CAN'T SYNC MY IPOD!

Just iesterday i put a conversation asking something about iPod touch...and today i bought it...i couldn't resist!
BUT i go home and i install it...i have itunes 7.5 the last... connect my ipod and immediatly it recognizes it! "Amazing" i said i haven't problem!
TOO EARLY! when i try to sync my ipod on the ipodtouch screen there's a battery with written "syncronization" it starts and on the computer i see sync 2 of 45... IT STOPS AND IPOD RETURNS ON THE HOME PAGE AND IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING!
I DOESNT' SYNC ANYTHING AND A MESSAGE SAYS TIME EXPIRED!AND I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING!
I'M THROUGH WITH ALL THE APPLE STUFFS! i'm frustrated and i'm about to cry! i ca'nt stand apple anymore! anything i buy works!!!! ANYTHING!!!! please help me! i don't know what to say i'm soooo frustrated and sad... :'(

Whoa. Relax, take your finger off the Caps Lock...
Some items don't sync well with all devices so perhaps for the first sync just set the iPod to sync with a single iTunes playlist, then build from there.
Now try working through the following steps. Do them all in order even if you think you've done them before:

Let us know how you get on (preferably with calm descriptions of symptoms! )

  • I cannot open the middle part of the Officejet Pro 8500A

I just bought this and it appears stuck and will not open (4a) of instruction sheet. It looks in the illustration as if you simply pull up but I cannot open it at all.

    Hi sandrayannetta,
If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, or you cannot see the paper either at the paper output slot or at the front tray, remove the paper from the transport unit.  Remove the paper following the procedure below:
Turn the machine off, then unplug the power cord.
Stand the machine with the right side facing down.
If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, stand the machine with the front tray open.
    Important:
When you stand the machine, confirm that the document cover is closed.
When you stand the machine, hold it securely and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.
Push the open lever to open the transport unit.
    (A) Open lever
When you open the transport unit, support it with your hand so that it does not fall down.
Pull out the jammed paper slowly.
    Note:
If the paper is rolled up and it is difficult to remove, grasp the edges of the paper, then remove the jammed paper.
If you cannot remove the jammed paper from the transport unit, close the transport unit, stand the machine upright, then open the paper output cover to remove the paper.
    . Close the transport unit.
Note:After you close the transport unit, do not keep the machine standing upright.
Plug the machine back in and turn the machine back on.
Reload the paper.  All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

  • Where can I get a replacement battery for the iBook G3 Clamshell M6411, in the UK?

I recently managed to source an Indigo iBook G3 clamshell - the M6411 FireWire model - from eBay.
It's in superb condition, but the battery has had it, and only holds about 5-10 minutes' charge.
Can anyone suggest where I can get a replacement? I guess I just assumed it would be easy, but everywhere I look online they're either sold out or cost a fairly large amount of money - I paid £50 for the laptop, which was a pretty good deal, and had hoped to get a battery for under £30 (as I've bought similar replacement batteries before for other laptops).
Also, are all the G3 Clamshell batteries the same? Or do the different models have different batteries?

Some items come up in a search for Mac parts UK; whether or not they have
an exact part match for any vintage product has not been searched...
Most that I have looked into, show any battery "out of stock" &/or listed "used."
A good electronics shop with an understanding of how these batteries are wired
in their case (and any controller chip circuitry) should be able to install new cells
inside the case; however opening these may present a problem if done forcefully.
    http://www.thebookyard.com/
    http://www.applemacparts.co.uk/store/index.php
    http://www.theappleshack.co.uk/
In the US, wegenermedia.com, powerbookmedic.com, & others may know of stock.
So far, I'd struck out searching; could be one may need to contact long standing
Apple specialists & those who repair vintage models, to get refurbished batteries.
Perhaps there is a message board or User Group site where one could try & contact
Apple users; of those some may know of a source, or an individual capable of repair
since these battery units have been refurbished before with new rechargeable cells.
Sorry to not be of exact help in this matter.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I'm quite excited about the new Lumia, but alas I won't be giving up my N8 until Nokia release a Lumia phone with an FM Transmitter.
It allows me to play music in any car I go in and any radio that I happen to be near without any cables or addon gadgets.
One thing is for sure, I will always use Nokia, I can't stand apple products. Too restricted and too controlled.

I Agree with this, I had the N900 and N97 both with FM transmitters
It was very hard to find a Frequency that was empty. even some of those had bleedover from adjacent stations
And even after I'd found a suitable Frequency, Driving up the road changed that as I started picking up local radio stations again. The FM Broadcast band is getting too crowded to make this a useful option

  • Final Cut Pro X is beta software

It's been out a week or so and I've been able to spend some time with the software. Without mentioning the missing features that are well reported elsewhere, I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Final Cut Pro X is pretty unusable. I've done a fair bit of beta testing in my time and in my opinion the software has a very definite beta feel to it.
Crashes are disconcertingly regular, some features plain do not work (have you tried importing iMovie events, for example?), and there are frequent application slowdowns that suggest memory leaks. I really want this software to be good, I really do. But as is stands the software, in my opinion, is incapable of performing the function for which it was written. You have to wonder why Apple released this, why they did not delay the release until the software was considerably more polished? You have to wonder why the development team must have ignored their own beta testers' concerns.
Maybe in a year's time we'll all look back at this and laugh. But as it stands Apple have a monumental task ahead of them if they are to repair the damage caused by this unprecedented premature release.

Have been using FCPx since about 2 hours after its first release and despite some head scratching I've not had a single crash... just imported an iMovie project from my SO and its fine!
    Horses for courses!

  • AirPort Express on stage

Would you think that the AirPort Express is a good solution to using an iPad remotely on stage? My current set up is that I plug my iPad directly in to my mixer desk via the headphone jack. I then have to walk back and forth to the mixer in order to change songs. I use an app called BackTrax to play the songs. I would like my mixer desk situated off the stage with my sound person and I would like the iPad on stage with me clipped to microphone stand.
What is the wireless range on this and what is the audio quality like?

The audio quality will be OK...its fairly highly compressed but it will sound OK. We've worked with a couple bands and use this configuration.
It would be best if you can use the Optical Output on the Airport Express too
The range? Direct Line of site? On an open stage without a ton of "other frequency noise"? I would say you can easily get 50 feet / 20 meters without any worries.
This type of connection will help to deliver better sound quality
