Star Key 2.0 trouble

(Tried to reach customer support over the phone. They put me on hold for about 30 mins. and afterwards I got an answering machine. Way to go MSI! Tried submitting my support request via the MSI website. After half an hour of filling out the damned form in all the details, click submit and get some website error. Way to go MSI!)
Anyway, I bought a Star Key 2.0 dongle to listen to music in stereo with my new Jabra stereo headphones. Only trouble so far! Let me start with one isue, particularly disturbing. After connecting the Jabra headphones to the dongle/computer, the default Audio device in Windows' "Sounds and Audio Device Properties" does not automatically switch to Bluetooth High Quality Audio, so I have to do this manually all the time. There are also other problems, but so far I'd appreciate some help in order to solve this one.

So if I had to guess the key and the headset may not be fully compatible.
Well, as I was saying, I have tried the dongle with three bleeding edge stereo headsets from three top of the line companies (among them Jabra and Plantronics). Doesn't get any better than that, trust me. It would be really weird for a commercial Bluetooth dongle to be incompatible with that.Quote
There may be something else but the USB2.0 does not seem to be mentioned in the manual at all. You may want to ask the tech if he has ever seen this device himself or ask if he is guessing. Then ask for a tech to respond that has used the device.
Yep, they say they tried it with their own MSI FS300 stereo headset and it works fine. (Yeah, what else could they say, right?) Now, everybody seems to be missing the point that I came across precisely the same issues with my Belkin dongle, and they were solved after I installed some obscure patch I found on Belkin's website (no thanks to Belkin tech support though!). It's gotta be that this is also fixable via some firmware update. I do not think this is a hardware issue. At any rate, they told me that there is no such firmware update available, nor is there any in the works. Also, interestingly enough, they say they can only test the dongle with their own headset. My thinking is that anyone that claims compatibility with a standard as widespread like Bluetooth, should do everything possible to ensure that their device works indeed with other Bluetooth-compatible devices.Quote
I haven't so this is all the help I can be.
Thanks for the replies though. My only hope is that others will come across the same issues with this dongle. Until then, I will most likely be springing for a Jabra dongle: that one, at least, should work with their own headset.

  • MSI Star Key on Windows 7

    Hello!
I have a bluetooth usb device since 2005, back then I used to have windows xp and it worked very well, now I have win7 32 bits and I'm having troubles with the installation, driver is not supported.
The device is the MSI star key v 1.0. How can I get the right drivers??
    Regards!

    Topic split and renamed.
This is a very old device now, and MSI does not provide Windows 7 drivers.
Its possible that drivers are already included with Windows 7, have you tried letting Windows Update find drivers for you?
Alternatively you could give the Vista 32bit drivers a try, they may just work (Windows XP drivers won't):

  • Star Key 2.0 Bluetooth dongle crashes Autodesk Maya?

After pairing my Star Key 2.0 Bluetooth dongle to my Nokia phone, I was no longer able to launch Autodesk Maya 8.5 (running on Vista 64-bit edition).  Maya quits immediately after it finishes loading.  If I remove my phone from the list of Bluetooth devices in my Bluetooth settings, Maya loads without any problems.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Star Key dongle or with my Nokia phone (it's the only Bluetooth device I own, so I can't test this with another Bluetooth device) or with Bluetooth in general, but I wanted to post this information in case anyone else was having a similar problem.  I am using the Star Key dongle with the latest MSI drivers (not the Vista drivers).  It's possible that this is not an issue if you use the default Vista bluetooth drivers... I'm not sure, as I haven't tested it.
Let me know if you are experiencing any similar problems.

Dongles are allways a pain in the but.
They are a copy-protection and they are known to give troubles in combination with other devices.
Try under XP, it can be well a Vista problem too.

  • MSI Star key 3x fatser, license does not include device !!!

    Dears,
I have my MSI star key bluetooth device from 1.5 years, it was working perfect on my windows XP SP2. Then I had some problems with my windows, and I wanted to re-install again the driver (after de-installing the current driver) but I found myself getting the following message, when I try to start the bluetooth device:
"your bluetooth software license does not include use with this bluetooth device. [6]", and when I point out to my CD for the license file, I get this message "Bluetooth software license file not found. [2]".
I have tried the driver coming with the device CD WIDCOMM version 4.0.1.2101 and was working for more than 1 year, and also I have tried the new driver on http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=131&prod_no=101 WIDCOMM version 4.0.1.2900 several times with lots of combination and nothing is working, the bluetooth is still red and refuse to start.
I found the same issue is posted too much over the web regarding the WIDCOMM software in general and solution with something as patch I could not find.
I checked the fixed posting on this forum, but it seems all included URLs in the posting are not working.
It seems that contacting MSI support is a waste of time. Could anyone provide guidance or help for me.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,
Does anyone know what the maximum current of the Star Key 3.0 is? I'll be needing to use it on an extremely low power system (5V 3A) and need to verify power consumption on any components I use on it.

    MSI Star Key 3.0
    Power Consumption from 5V input:
    Tx Typical: 128mA (.128A)
    Rx Typical: 68mA (.068A)
    Standby Mode: 52mA (.052A)
That's it! Thanks so much! :-D

  • Registration and MSI Drivers for MSI STAR KEY 3

First of all for some strange reason i cannot register my star key 3 which i bought at 23/03/2010 from www.e-shop.gr, i have send to MSI the photo with the serial number.Second, clearly in the manual refers about a software driver CD which was not included in my package! I have searched the MSI site for an MSI driver and it has only for STAR KEY 1 and 2 ,not for STAR KEY 3! Currently i have the driver that Windows XP service pack 3 installed but as i saw from previous models STAR KEY 1 and 2 ,the MSI driver has more features. To anyone who has MSI STAR KEY 3, did MSI included a driver CD in the package?

Even though I can understand your frustration, you need to understand a few things in order to take the next steps in this matter:
    First:
The BlueSoleil package is not an MSI Product but a piece of bundled third party software that comes with the package.  It is kind of like buying a CD/DVD Burner and getting a CD that contains Nero Burning ROM and a valid license for the particular Nero Version on that CD.  Now let's say: That this "older" Nero Version does not work very well with Windows 7 64bit (because it was concipated for older Windows Versions).  Who do you blame for that?  The manufacturer of the optical drive?  When you contact the software company behind Nero about that, they will tell you exactly the same thing as BlueSoleil did:  Buy a newer version! Now, please don't tell me, that will start complaining about the manufacturer of the optical drive about an outdated Nero Version.
    Second:
    Quote
I bought this device a couple of months ago, so its not even a very old one!
Just because you bought this device only recently in some shop, that does not mean that it is brand new (the shop could have had that thing in stock for a couple of years already).
In fact, the device is at least 3 years old (if not older) and is officially advertised as supporting the 32bit versions of Windows 2000, Windows XP and even Windows Vista.  Windows 7 was not even on the market back then and therefore there was also no possibility of including a copy and a license for a Windows 7-ready Bluesoleil version. There is an old version of the bundled/third party BlueSoleil Software on there because the product was put out on the market more than three years ago.  In case the people in that shop you bought the device in told you any different, they did not really provide very good advice.

the ability to contact the real MSI Support
    ... exists here: http://support.msi.com/
However, MSI will most probably be able to help you with getting your hands on a free up-to-date Bluesoleil version (just like the optical drive manufacturer who will not provide you with a free copy/license of the latest Nero Release).

I also tried to register the product but the registration page says: "not MSI product" BAHH!!! WHYY??
What page exactly?  Do you have a link?

    I have the serial number
Did you enter the serial number of the device or the serial number for the BlueSoleil Software Version that came with it?

  • MSI Star Key 2.0 & Windows XP x64

    Hi,
I have Star Key 2.0 and it's working fine with Windows XP x64. I'm using Microsoft's Bluetooth Stack and it's not supporting Headset profile for example. I can use Widcomm stack with my dongle when using Windows XP, 32-bit version, am I right? Is it possible to use Widcomm stack with x64?
    - Matti P

Ok. I found 64-bit Widcomm stack (5.0.1.2500). I installed it, but it won't work with my dongle. Stack tells me the following message "Your Bluetooth software license does not include use with this Bluetooth device.[6]". So, I tried to use license file which is located install CD and got the following message "You cannot install an older version of Bluetooth Software over a newer version of Bluetooth Software. [-349]" I suppose that the license file is for Widcomm 4.0 stack, and it is not working with the 5.0 stack. I did a fast search and did not find 64-bit version of the 4.0 stack.

  • Keyboard settings stuck on Key Caps/Link Troubles

Somewhere between finishing the installation of a Belkin wireless G router on my iMac, and rebooting the system to finalise, something has gone horribly wrong. My G3's keyboard now types in nothing but non-English symbols - the key cap settings have taken over. I'm almost positive that I've pressed the wrong key combinations at some point and wrought this newbie nightmare upon myself, but damned if I know how to reverse it. I've checked the keyboard control panel several times, and it always says that it's set to Roman characters, and US English.
Another anomoly that began at the same time is my inability to click links in IE 5. When links are clicked, the download manager comes up, but the target page does not. Bookmarks/Favorites work, but the links on any page don't.
And finally - for this installment - the "close window" box at the top left no longer closes level by level. It now closes out the entire folder at once. I had none of these problems fifteen minutes before finishing the Belkin and a Charter High Speed self-install disc. What the blazes did I do wrong, and please please pleeeease, someone help me figure out how to fix it!
Now that my panic and griping are out of the way, I can say hello to you all! I'm a Windows-raised computer geek, desperately wanting to make "the switch" for good. Hard to do that, though, when I can only type in French and German accents (on my PC at present.) I bought my iMac second-hand, and although it hasn't been upgraded since its whopping 64 megs of RAM were put in, it's every bit as quick as my 768 meg PC. Sometimes faster. Go figure.

The clue is in the error message: the OUTLN schema is missing.
This is something Oracle 8i introduced to help manage the CBO (or soemthing equally geeky and internal). For some reason your database no longer has this user. It ought to be created automatically during installation (or upgrade) but catproct may not have completed probably or some over zealous admin type has dropped it.
Solution is to re-install (or re-upgrade) as you cannot create this user on their own. Alas.

  • Pressing star (*) cancels the current call

We just installed a PAP2T VOIP adapter connected to our Linksys Wireless-G broadband adapter. Everything works great except that during a call pressing the star key (*) cancels the call. This is a critical problem because the star key is frequently used to access various menus when dialing into services such as banking, conferencing systems, etc.  Taking the PAP2T adapter out of the picture solves the problem (e.g., hooking up a Siemens VOIP-adapted phone system directly to the router), so it would definitely seem to be the PAP2T.
How can we solve this ASAP??  Thank you!!!

AFAIK, the PAP does not interpret DTMF during a call.  Possibly, there is a problem with RFC2833 setup, etc.  Try setting DTMF Tx Method: InBand.  If that doesn't help, see if a softphone configured like the PAP shows the trouble (the Siemens might not fail because of different protocols, etc.)  If the softphone does not have the problem, you might try setting SIP Debug: full and Debug Server: <your PC IP>.  Then use Wireshark to see what happens when you press *.

  • ITunes bug? Rating stars won't click-drag left-right anymore

The latest iTunes patch (v10.1.0.54 running on Windows 7) seems to have an annoying bug: When I'm rating a song, it immediately takes my initial click, regardless of whether I hold down the mouse button -- whereas I used to be able to click in the area where the rating stars are, hold down the mouse button, and then drag out the stars to the rating I wanted, e.g. 4 stars. Now, however, iTunes ignores the fact that I'm holding down the mouse button and sets the rating at whatever position I initially click, e.g. 1 star.
The reason this is a super-annoying problem is that I only ever listen to smart playlists that filter out songs with low star ratings. So now as soon as I click a song to rate it, if I happen to initially click less than a 3-star rating, it immediately disappears. After I'm finished cursing at the computer, I have to go find the song under my general Music Library and re-rate it so it will show back up in my "smart" playlists. Grr.
Incidentally, I was able to drag the stars as normal one time -- but other than that one instance, it has not worked at all since the most recent patch. Please, Apple, please please please fix this bug. It's causing me a serious headache.

UPDATE: This bug only affects iTunes configured to allow half-star ratings.
I normally have my ItunesPrefs.xml file configured to use half-stars, with this line:
    <key>allow-half-stars</key>
    <data>
    dHJ1ZQ==
    </data>
After testing removal of the line, the click-drag on whole stars works normally. So it appears this bug exists only for those who only use half stars.
Is there any hope of Apple fixing the click-drag problem when half-stars are enabled?

  • Settings and Center Key on the N86

Hi, Its been a while that I own the N86 now. I updated to v11.043.
Recently, I noticed that when clicking on "settings"  in the menu, it slows down the phone (sometimes it freezes) and revert to the main menu. Or, when you click on "general>Personalisation" it revert to the stand by screen, as if it crashed!
Secundo, the center key on the D-pad doesn't respond several times!
    Any solutions?
    Thank You!

ive not come accross these problems back up your data and try the following
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work. 1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345 *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons
