Star ratings for movies

Is there any plan to implement star ratings for movies? Every other cable system I ever used had these (Cablevision, Comcast), as does Tivo. There are a lot of movies in the listings, and I have found this feature extremely useful to help choosing. When I saw this wasn't on FIOS, I was very tempted to immediately go back to Cablevision, even though I love everything else about FIOS. Please implement this!!!

Hey Tim... Verona neighbor here.  The only thing good about Comcast was their guide DATA.  They use Gemstar and Verizon uses FYI.
I have voiced my opinion as much as one can.  I can only hope they are listening and one day the guide will be accurate and as complete as the competitions.
Fingers crossed!

  • Star ratings for photos?

I see they improved the photo app a little but I can't find a way to do star ratings like in iPhoto.  Am I missing something or did they leave the feature out (again)?

    No. Not sure why.....
I use Sort Shots for this and some other stuff.
Also, there are other apps that allow this but not in conjunction with the standard photo app. (I don't think)

  • Genius ratings for movies- no "meh" category?

I recently got an AppleTV and bought some movies. Genius is asking for "up" or "down" but there is no in-between. If I like generaly like an actor but didn't care for that particular movie, is it better to give the movie a thumbs down or leave it blank? I still want to see other recommendations for that actor and category.

If you didn't care for the movie, that definitely qualifies for "Thumbs Down."
The "Thumbs Up" is for movies you would recommend to others.

  • Star ratings for MP3's on ZEN:Visio

I've been giving my favourite tracks a rating of 5 stars as and when they play on my ZEN. Is it possible to view the rating for the songs so I can create a playlist?
    Any advice is highly appreciated.

I did a format on 4-25-08 and was able to move some songs over, so I went to Creative Sync Manager to let it reload the 8,626 mp's I had backed up into a folder on my PC. After 0 hrs., it was 52% complete, so I went to bed and sometime during the night the player froze up. I had to reset it to get it to do anything, and it began rebuilding the library and while traveling with it in my car, it ran the battery down. I couldn't revi've it with the USB cable, so I put it in my travel dock and it started charging. I did a reboot and it rebuilt the library again and is now doing fine (knock on wood). I'm not sure why the battery ran down so quickly, but I normally listen to it in my travel dock, which keeps it charged, so I don't know if my battery is getting ready to quit. The player is not quite a year old, so I would think it should last longer than that. I also am curious what corrupted the hard dri've. Thanks KokChoy-CL for your assistance and if you or anyone else have any other pointers, I would appreciate hearing from you.

  • Zero star ratings for bad apps

I have downloaded many useful apps for my ipod touch but also a few junky ones that i deleted after running them once. After i delete them the ipod asks me if i would like to rate them. the thing that bothers me is that the lowest rating i can give is 1 star. This bothers me because that seems to imply that the app has some value (1/5 = 20%). It is inevitable that as more apps are created there will be more garbage adding noise to the app store. Why not make it possible to leave a rating of 0 out of five? An would you mind taking out the trash Apple? Do we really need 200 **** apps? idk how some of these apps get green lit.

Indeed the keyword search works well but what if you don't know what you are looking for? In such a case user reviews and ratings are likely more relevant then just the number of times an app has been downloaded. Also what do users do with an app once they have downloaded it? Do they use it religiously or instantly delete it. An objective measure of quality could include user behavior, ratings, and positive or negative language in reviews in addition to the total number of dls.
I find the categories that the apps are sorted into to be somewhat arbitrary.
For example, is an app that purports to be a finger print scanner but in actuality is simply an artist's impression of what one might look like a utility? Should apps that contain adult content like Sex Quiz (18+) be near the top of the Educational / Games category?
I don't think of myself as a prude but perhaps there should be an adult category with subcategories such as sex, crudity, violence etc...
The current organization of the app store encourages developers to think inside the box. In order to have success in an environment with a limited number of niches their apps must fit into predefined roles so as to increase the slight chance of making it into one of the top 25 lists and achieving greater exposure. This might not guarantee that creativity is stifled but the most talented developers will be drawn to where the money is (the top of the pile where more users will see the app).
I'm not saying this is a national emergency or anything but I don't think it is unreasonable to challenge the party line and encourage innovation.

  • Ratings not showing up in iTunes Store for Movies?

I went to rent a movie last night and found all of the movies I looked at didn't show the MPAA ratings. I know I can look at the IMDB and see what the original version was rated, but I want to make sure I'm not downloading a different version of the movie (eg. unrated.)
Where can I find ratings for movies in the iTunes store?
    Thanks

    Thank You So Much.
I have written your helped articles many time.
    I really appreciate you.

  • Multiple star ratings

I need some advice about star ratings for music.
I'm about to own a MacMini with iTunes 10. I intend to transfer all my music from my Powerbook.
At present I give my music star ratings, and synch smart playlists of 4 & 5 star rated tracks to my iPhone.
I've just bought my kids iPod Touches, and they want to rate tracks they like in the same way that I do.
But I don't want their new fangled music to appear on my playlists if they give a track say 4 stars.
Is there a way of marking tracks with stars awarded by the owners of certain iPods, or can I create a library for each person, but use a single set of source music. EG, a master library would hold all the songs, but none would be rated. Our own personal libraries would point at the master library, and we would rate the tracks within our own library only. Thus a song could be rated 1 in my library but 4 in a child's library, meaning the song would appear in their 4 star playlist, but not on mine.
    Any help much appreciated.

instead, you might want to consider *method one* from this support article: [_*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495].
if you prefer, though, the following 3rd party apps make managing multiple libraries a bit easier:
    PowerTunes

  • PrEl 9. Do star ratings affect Instant movie results?

    Hi everybody.
Do the star ratings that you assign to your videos in the Elements Organizer have any weigh or effect on the clips that are chosen by Adobe when you do an Instant Movie project?
I fist did a (rather typical) zoo movie, where the elefant turned out to be the main subject of the instant movie rather than my family. I guess the elefant clip was better iluminated, steady, etc and had the right smart tags so that it was shown a lot of times.
In another project for one of my kid's birthday I assigned star ratings to the clips that I liked before I ran the auto analyzer and created an instant movie. In the end I had more of the clips I liked in my instant movie.
I don't know if this was mere coincidence or if star rating had anything to do with it. I couldn't find any reference to star ratings in the premiere elements help where it talks about instant movie projects.
What has been your experience on this?
    Thanks,
    Asdrubal.

    Thank you Steve.
I know the star rating doesn't affect the clips, I just wondered if they had any effect on the Instant Movie algorithms.
Like you say they must be only for personal reference, as there is no mention of them in the instant movie help files.

I HAVE CONTACTED ITUNES THROUGH THIS REDICULOUSLY CHICKEN SH_T SYSTEM THEY USE SO THEY DO NOT ACTUALLY HAVE TO HEAR HOW UPSET A PERSON IS NOW THAT THEY CANNOT BUY FOOD FOR THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE OF A MISTAKE MADE ON ITUNES PART.  I DID RECEIVE AN EMAILED RESPONSE FROM STEPHANIE WHO ADVISED THIS WAS PUCHARED ON A PHONE THAT HAS PURCHASED DOWNLOADS IN THE PAST. I WONDER IF SHE THOUGHT TO LOOK AT MY ENTIRE DOWNLOAD HISTORY AND DISCOVER THAT NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN PURCHASED ON MY ITUNE ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT REMOTELY CLOSE TO WHAT THEY ARE CHARGING ME NOW.  THAT IS BECAUSE I DO TRY TO MONITOR THIS ACCOUNT AND OBVIOUSLY THIS LAST PURCHASE WAS DONE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE UNTIL I CHECKED MY ONLINE BANKING ACCOUNT, WHICH I DO EVERY DAY.  TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE APP STATES IT IS FREE TO INSTALL WHEN YOU PULL IT UP SO NO ONE HAS CLARIFIED TO MY WHERE THE $99.99 COMES INTO PLAY.  I WILL NOT DROP THIS UNTIL MY BACK ACCOUNT HAS BEEN PROPERERLY CREDITED IN THE SAME TIME FRAME IT TOOK YOU TO TAKE MY MONEY. • Lost star ratings on my chosen photos in Filmstrip mode....

    Hello,
Have recently lost my star ratings on my files while in Filmstrip mode and the marker that showed that the file had been edited has disappeared ( the little half moon things on the upper right side of the photo... Please help. Im assuming it is a setting but dont know which one

Were they raw images? Did you move them from one folder to another?
A raw image from a Canon or Nikon or other cameras has a raw image that cannot store any changes you make to your image. Rather, ACR creates a side-car file that must be in the same folder as the images. You will see your file and the sidecar so (for example) a cannon image might be _MG_3404.CR2 and the sidecar file would be _MG_3404.XMP. As long as those two are in the same folder, everything is great. Until you move one or the other from the folder. Then Bridge, ACR, or PS doesn't know what to do because there are no clues for the original image to KNOW that a sidecar file exists. If you still have the sidecar files, simply rejoining the two into the same folder will sove the problem.
One easy resolution to this is to convert the original image from the original fomat to a DNG. There are MANY MANY benefits to this (and no liabiliities) but for your circumstances, the sidecar file is stored in the DNG. Your original raw image is also stored within this DNG so they cannot be separated.
There are many ways to convert your images to DNG, one is during the original downloading: if you are using Bridge's Photo Downloader, there is an option to convert them to DNG during downloading. That's what I always do. After the fact conversion can be done using Adobe's DNG Converter.

  • Can Aperture recognize star ratings or keywords on import?

I do all my initial sorting and culling of images outside Aperture (Photo Mechanic, which I highly recommend). I tag images with star ratings. I would like to import only those photos with a star rating above some threshold. Is there a way for Aperture to recognize those star ratings in the import dialog, such that I could filter the photos that I want to import? I would prefer to do that in place, rather than having to move or copy all those large RAW (NEF) files to another folder just for import into Aperture.  A related question would be whether Aperture could filter by keywords or other metadata that is already associated with an image?  Thanks, David.

Just wanted to say that your understanding of Referenced and Managed now seems correct.  Managed Masters is a very good way to start with Aperture.  There is so much to learn, and a few tall conceptual hurdles to clear, that this administration decision can be safely postponed.  Aperture makes it easy to change any Image's Master from either status to the other.
In the longer term, however, Referenced Masters are often a better set-up -- and become necessary for large Libraries.
Note that there is no reason not to have a mix.  "Managed" and "Referenced" refer the status of each Image's Master.  I keep my personal Library on my laptop, and keep as Managed all recently imported Images and all portfolio Images.  This allows me complete adjustment, printing, and exporting of those Images whenever I have my computer.  All the other Masters are stored on an external drive at work.
But note, too, that Referenced Masters are not backed up in Vaults.  If you use Vaults, you will have to back up your Referenced Masters using a method other than Aperture's Vault feature.

  • LR Star Ratings into iPhoto?

I routinely export a (relatively small) portion of my LR catalog as jpgs and import those into iPhoto ('08) for online sharing, syncing with iPod touch and a few other reasons. LR keywords move over just fine but I'm not able to get the star ratings out of LR and into iPhoto. Is there a way to do that?

As a work around, you could also add "onestar" "twostars" type keywords to the photos in LR so that you'd be able to call them up in iPhoto and apply the iPhoto stars en masse if you wanted.
And, with iPhoto's smart folders, it should work pretty well.

  • Ratings for multiple iPods

I have one computer (Windows XP) where I keep all my music for my iPod, and I have two iPods that I sync with this machine; one is mine, one belongs to my son. I want to be able to prevent his rating changes from overwriting my ratings for songs, because when he changes one of my favorite songs from 5-stars to 3-stars, then he syncs with the computer, it updates the song in iTunes to 3-stars, and then next time I sync MY iPod, my 5-star song suddenly becomes a 3-star song. How can I prevent our ratings from overwriting each other??? I either want to disable ratings from his iPod from getting synced, or to ensure that MY iPod controls the ratings. HELP!

The only way to get around this is to create a separate Windows account for your son to use. You can move your music library to a public folder (like the root of the C:\ drive) and both use the same music, but your different libraries will have different ratings associated with the same music files. I don't know how clear that is to you, but let me know how it goes and I can clarify if needed.

  • How can I transfer my star ratings to my new computer?

Just bought a new Dell. I have ITunes on my old computer, and have spent lots of time creating playlists and star ratings. How can I import that into my new computer? I have a video Ipod with my complete music library on it, and when I connect it to my new computer I can listen and change the ratings, but I can't transfer the music, or any of the playlist info. Ideas?
