Star ratings on iphone aren't displaying proplerly in itunes
Hello,
I am new to the community, so this may be a very stupid problem that i am having.
No matter how many times i sync my iphone with itunes, the star ratings that i have assigned songs on my iphone will not display correctly in itunes.
I understand that the ratings wont sync with the itunes library. I just want the iphone's library that is displaying on my computer screen to match with star ratings on the actual iphone.
Example:
I give a song on my iphone a 1-star rating, connect my iphone to my computer, open itunes and sync my iphone, click on the iphone icon and find the same exact song in my iphone's library,
only to find that the song is showing to have never been given a star rating.
Please help me!!!
My star ratings are very important to me, and i have never had trouble with this before in all of my years of owning apple products.

Sounds like you haven't had and never had Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and now you are wanting to select this after downloading all apps with your iPhone.
With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This will copy all 3rd party apps - paid and free from your iPhone to your iTunes library.
Follow this by selecting Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences and leave this selected. This way you can remove an app from your iPhone by deselecting the app under the apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync. To re-install the app on your iPhone at a later date, reselect the app under the apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. After downloading an app with iTunes on your computer, the app will be pre-selected under the apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences. Sync with iTunes to install the new app on your iPhone. And after downloading an app with your iPhone, the app will be copied to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.

Appointments added from iPhone aren't displayed in Outlook 2007 calendar
When I create a new appointment on my iPhone then sync with Outlook 2007 via iTunes, the new appointment isn't displayed in Day/Week/Month view of Outlook. If I change Outlook's view to All Appointments, there I can see all the details of the appointment that was added via my iPhone. For some odd reason iPhone generated appointments just doesn't appear in the normal Day/Week/Month view. I've also noticed that if I edit an existing appointment (previously viewable in both Outlook and iPhone), after the next synchronization Outlook only displays the appointment in All Appointment view. I am not using Exchange or MobileMe.
There is no real solution at the moment, but I have read that is in an option to show the appointment by making it a re-occurring everyday event and let the re-occurrence end at the same day the appointment is.
It worked with me.

Star Ratings: solid stars opposed to empty stars
hello,
i have noticed that when i give star ratings in iTunes that some of the stars fill in and some are left empty in the center. does anyone know what the difference represents?
thanks in advance...You mean the stars will actually be "turned on" so to speak, but with a hole in the middle, like a star shaped donut?
I know ratings did, and probably still do, support half star ratings. You can not do it in iTunes directly but there are scripts to assign half stars and they will show up as half stars. Perhaps related to that?

i had rated som song as one star in my iphone, so when i connect to itunes, the rating should show, [when i select the music of my iphone in itunes]
i used to have it in old release but now i dont know why does not show .
i even made smart list when all music with one star will go to the list
but i can see the list in iphone but not in itunes when i connect it, [smart List is empty].
can please someone tell me why ??!!!
i manage my music manually, i dont like to sync. [it work before so am sure there is a way]

Thank you for the suggestion. I managed to find the iPhone device on the iMac under "shared" rather than "devices". It works great.

For a long time iTunes has had the "hidden" ability to display 1/2 star ratings.
This ability seems to have gone in iTunes 10.1.
Ratings are still stored internally as a number between 0 and 100, but a 90 no longer displays as 4 1/2 stars (instead it displays just as 4 stars).
I'd like my 1/2 stars back, but I'm mostly posting to warn people who might like the 1/2 stars and not want to loose them.
For me it is a dilema. I like that you can hide ping in 10.1. And I'll probably want to upgrade to iOS4.2. But I do like those 1/2 stars. Not sure what to do. . .This is a ditto to dknightd's comment.
Since 2008 I have been using "I Love Stars" a free app that allowed to rate songs with half-stars. Before that I was using some Apple scripts (Doug's?) to do the same. That is 6 or 7 years of data wiped out by either OS 10.6.5 or iTunes 10.1! I am really surprised there aren't more people commenting (complaining) about this because without the kerfuffle I am not sure Apple will correct the situation.
Please, please Mister Jobs....put the half-stars back. : ( -
I need some advice about star ratings for music.
I'm about to own a MacMini with iTunes 10. I intend to transfer all my music from my Powerbook.
At present I give my music star ratings, and synch smart playlists of 4 & 5 star rated tracks to my iPhone.
I've just bought my kids iPod Touches, and they want to rate tracks they like in the same way that I do.
But I don't want their new fangled music to appear on my playlists if they give a track say 4 stars.
Is there a way of marking tracks with stars awarded by the owners of certain iPods, or can I create a library for each person, but use a single set of source music. EG, a master library would hold all the songs, but none would be rated. Our own personal libraries would point at the master library, and we would rate the tracks within our own library only. Thus a song could be rated 1 in my library but 4 in a child's library, meaning the song would appear in their 4 star playlist, but not on mine.

Star ratings not transferring in sync
When I'm on the go I give a star rating to my songs on my iPhone 3GS.
When I get home I'd love to transfer the ratings over to iTunes.
Is there a setting that turns this feature on?
Is it suppose to happen automatically?
I can't get any star ratings to transfer over from my iPhone to iTunes or from iTunes to my iPhone.
The sync takes ages then completes, I imagine it's doing something.
I had this issue before I updated to iOS4, I manually manage my music on the iPhone.The ratings only transfer if you use itunes sync - they won't transfer using manually manage.
Same for the play counts. -
In Aperture, when I import images that have been previously meta-annoted in iView, the star ratings do not show up (that column is empty in list and thumb views), although all my other iptc stuff is there.
The stars DO show up in LightRoom, but not in Aperture. Is this a known thing and is there a tip for it?Well, you forced me to go through the old iView manuals. Turns out it IS an XMP thing that allows Lightroom and Bridge to see stars:

So I guess for coprporate reasons Apple does not support the was XMP sees some stuff. If it's just the stars, that's workable, as Steve said. I just wonder what other annotations I haven't noticed yet... -

Addressing your second question, you are confusing two different things.
tiff is an image file format, as is jpeg, as is psd, as is png, as are dozens (if not hundreds, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_file_formats) of other formats.
A colour profile represents the colour characteristics of devices so that, for example, displays know how to display the colours, printers know how to print them.
Image files MAY, but do not have to, contain colour profiles.

Photos aren't displaying images?
Last year I went on holiday and at the time I took lots of photos, around 500 in total. However some of the photos aren't displaying the image of the photo, just black or white squares. When I took the pictures they registered as pictures and you could see the photo without any problem. Soon after I returned home, when I tried to upload them to my laptop, I noticed some weren't displaying anything anymore. The photo thumbnail is just a black or white square, and when I tap on it pulls up the 'photo' but there is no image. I'm uploading them to Facebook and I thought it was just an issue with the file format (even though they were taken on the iPhone) and maybe they would display once uploaded, but they haven't. If I remember correctly, when I checked the file size on my laptop they read 0KB. What happened to my photos? Can I get them back?
This is what it looks like. They used to be photos but now they're blank thumbnails. The exact same happens but in black on some photos.Did you make a backup after taking the photos to iCloud or iTunes? If so, restore them.
Did you have Photostream enabled? If so, check your Photostream album for copies of the photos, or use the iCloud function on a Mac or the iCloud Control Panel for Windows to get your photos from Photostream to your computer. -
Why isn't my STAR RATINGS sync'ing?
When I rated music on i-tunes it does not sync with my ratings on my iphone, anyone know how to fix ????
I noticed the opposite. If I make changes in iTunes to the ratings it does sync over to the iPhone but if you rate anything on the iPhone those changes are not sync'd back to iTunes. I noticed some earlier posts about this and it seems like it has been around for a while. Seems basic iPod functionality isn't working on the phone. I REALLY REALLY hope they fix this (running 2.1 now).
I noticed that that in addition to star ratings, the play count and last time played don't seem to sync either. What is really strange is that it seems to be spotty....does a few songs here and there. I listened to an entire album this afternoon, rated every song and after syncing iTunes shows I haven't listened to that album in days and none of the ratings are there. Worst part of it is that it syncs the songs from itunes back to the phone thus overwriting all the ratings you just did!
Apple fix this!! -
The Problem/s
1. I am unable to sync my iPhone 4S with my Mac Book Pro, either by cable, wifi or bluetooth
2. iTunes will initiall open and briefly identifies the iPhone in the Device section in iTunes.
3. When iTunes starts to read the iPhone (displaying the spinning wheel), it immediately then quits and
4. Opens a 'dialogue box' which displays the message "iTunes Quit Unexpectedly"
5 The dialoge box offers the following button options to:-
'Show Details'
The 'Show Details' button will open and display a list of the 'Problem Details and System Configeration'. To the average user the information is useless, as one doesn't know what to look for to solve the problem. This is a long and detailed report (too long to include in this message), which includes information such as:-
Crashed Thread: 20
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000000006f0
'OK'
The 'Ok' button simply quits and closes the dialogue box
'Reopen'
The 'Reopen' button will again reopen iTunes, briefly showing that it is trying to read the iPhone in the Devices section, but then returns again to display the same dialogue box.
Other Information
1. iTunes will still start normally once the USB cable is removed from the Mac book Pro, but crashes again once the USB cable is reattached to the computer
Any advice or help offered would be greatly appreciated.

My iphone 4 started displaying a message box with the following message: "This accessory is not optimized for this phone. You may experience noise and loss of battery." How can I transfer my star ratings to my new computer?
Just bought a new Dell. I have ITunes on my old computer, and have spent lots of time creating playlists and star ratings. How can I import that into my new computer? I have a video Ipod with my complete music library on it, and when I connect it to my new computer I can listen and change the ratings, but I can't transfer the music, or any of the playlist info. Ideas?
