Star tool made something different shape. How I did that?

I made a shape that I've never seen before. I made a star with intersection path.
It's made by star tool but I have no idea how I did it. I just clicked and dragged. I guess I made it with some other key(s).
Let me know how I make it.
Thank you.

with star tool click on page
set points to 3 (olny seems to work with a 3 point star)
then draw a star, before letting go of mouse button, hold ctrl and drag a bit. (may need to tap alt, its a bit confusing and prob an error in the tool)
once you have it drawing the 3 point overlapping star like you have above you can click to make a new star and set to 5 points (for example) and it will create a 5 pointed version.
to stop this effect and reset the tool, press alt and ctrl while drawing a star.

I would think so.  A friend is buying a new MacBook Air, and needs to know if data transfer is included in the 90-day technical support offer from Apple.  I'm pretty sure it is, but just would like to make sure I'm steering her in the right direction
