Starcam 370i Focus Problem

Hi all..
i have a really simple and dumb question.
I purchased a Starcam 370i which i sent interstate as a gift.. the user has hooked it up successfully, however the camera is out of focus (looks like it's set to min)
Looking through the downloaded manual i cant see any way to adjust the focus.. and the user cant find anywhere on the camera to adjust focus.
Can someone please advise how to adjust focus !!!!

  .. ?? silver ring...??
as i said.. i dont have the webcam with me... (doh... should do quality testing before posting)
I assume it's on the camera face .. around the lens ?

  • Starcam 370i install problem

Has anyone had a similar problem to this?
My son has a Starcam 370i. Having carried out an installation of the software and connecting the cam he gets an error message;- "cannot find hardware". The led lights are on. After uninstalling/reinstalling several times no change. After removing the software and rebooting with the cam still conected he gets "new hardware found install software etc". Installing the software then gets the message "cannot find hardware". Other than helping to fill the dustbin, any suggestions please?

I also note that the link to the drivers on both the TW and US servers is now dead.  Are we going to see some new drivers any time soon?

  • StarCam 370i Problems With Windows Vista

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I've been reading the topics and I haven't found anything about the compatibility problems that the StarCam 370i has in Windows Vista. I'm using the RC1 5600 version.
Is there any driver or anything I could do to install the camera? I receive this error that says there's not enough storage available to complete the operation, when there's obviously enough space in my hard disk.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

you'll need  to wait until MSI release a Vista-compatible driver

  • StarCam 370i problem

Have had a problem  getting StarCam 370i to work - have raised it via support on 7 December but no response as yet ......  Perhaps someone out there can help.
Installed drivers from mini-CD onto PC running XP home and rebooted.
Plugged in webcam and this caused windows to prompt for install CD (didn't expect this to happen).  Loaded CD and various files installed.
Lights then came on on Webcam but no picture, even after selecting preview.
Tried on a second PC and same problem.  I am running Norton Internet security and this gave a warning about an invalid source IP address (0.1.0.4).  This happened on both machines so must be related to the software install.
Also tried de-installing, starting up in safe mode, re-installing from CD, plugging in again, but same thing happened and then no picture displayed.
Am I the only one having these problems - I seem to have wasted my money buying this WebCam.

I will try and return to ebuyer (although they are notorious for problems when returning faulty items).
i've only ever had to return two items to ebuyer before, a P4 Prescott CPU that i bought in error (needed a Northwood), and a Ebuyer Extra Value Wireless USB adaptor that failed after 8 months. refunded both of them each time, and i ordered the correct P4 CPU the first time, and bought another wireless adaptor the second time
when you fill in the RMA, just be honest, and give as much info as you can (mention you tried the camera in three systems, then bought another and it worked). if the item is faulty, they'll confirm it, and either refund or replace it. the more info you can give, their returns technicians will reproduce the same fault

  • Starcam 370i & My Guard sound problem

    Hi,
I've just installed My Guard to use with a Starcam 370i. However there's no sound with the video clips it records.
There's no problem  with video & sound captured from the Starcam software.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I just tried it out myself, as i have a StarCam 370i also. using the bundled VideoSecurity software, it doesn't capture any audio, only video
whether this is to keep the capture file size down, i'm not sure. for security purposes, video should be enough evidence, even without audio

  • StarCam 370i with Apple Mac

    I have a serious problem with StarCam 370i :
    - I used this webcam earlier with my old mac mini (with PowerPC processor) OS-X 10.4.7, with no problem, cam works very well
    - now I have a new mac mini (now with Intel CoreDuo processor) OS-X 10.4.10 and webcam wont work. when I install it I used a driver (only one for mac) downloaded from msi (because mac minis don't like 8cm CDs  ). Installation runs OK, but when I plug webcam to USB, AND run WebCam monitor (or other program that try to use webcam, like Skype), program falls down. I tried to use Maccam with no solution (they don't support StarCam 370i), tried MSI Support with no solution (reinstall system - on new computer  ), tried to use StarCam on other computer (PC / XPSP2) - works fine.
    Any suggestion ?
    thanks

I've asking in Apple Support, but they don't know either and don't have the camera to try it.
It seems that the driver may be doing something that's not allowed. Maybe it is something that has changed between 10.4 and 10.5. Their call to NSSplitView seems to be wrong. They adviced me to ask the developer of the driver.

  • StarCam 370i - low quality colour

Problem: If not using StarCam 370i in a sunny room the picture turns purple and the dark coloures come up incorrect as shown in the pictures below (correct firs, SC second).
(Supposed) explanation: We found it is because of the lack/faulty (? not sure yet) of an IR filter layer. Probably the cam was designed like this to be able to work in night mode. Please read this article to understand the necessity of the IR filter and read through the topic for details (especially from this post).
Solution: Use an energy saving (neon based) bulb. It produces less IR light than the normal light bulbs. Please read this post.
Will update this post if we figure out anything important.
    ========================
    Original first post:
    Hi!
I asked my sister to bring a StarCam 370i for me from the UK. I got it, it's cool but I'm very disappointed about the coloures. It looks like it doesn't like dark coloures. My black t-shirt is light grey, my dark blue one is light purple, my darg green chair is also light purple...
I tried to adjust the colour settings but couldn't set it up. Is this normal? What can be wrong? :(
I use the latest driver from the msi webpage (she left the CD in Englang :( ).
    thx

    I asked the MSI support:

    Dear MSI,
I bought an MSI StarCam 370i and I am very disappointed about it's colours. The dark coloures are incorrect on the screen and somehow everything is purple. Please see these pictures:

I wonder if you have ever seen something like this and what can I do to correct this. Should I use RMA?
    Yours faithfully,
    Attila Szucs

Regarding to your concern, please contact your reseller (the place you bought the board from) for repair/exchange. If the reseller for some reason cannot help, please check if there is MSI office nearby. MSI office If by chance , there is no MSI branch office, you can try to contact MSI distributors nearby. you could find there address or website on this link.  MSI distributors  for more assistance.

    Dear MSI,
I asked the reseller to check if they also find this problem or only my one is wrong. Unfortunately the camera is from abroad and it is not on the market in my country. I do not want to post the item before I find somebody to check his camera for this problem. I am sure you do not have one in your hand to have a look on it.
Unfortunately my sister left the box with the CD and all the papers in the UK. Will I be able to use RMA without papers? Is the serial number enough?
    Thank you for your answere.
    Yours faithfully,
    Attila Szucs

I will ask the Hungarian office but I'm very busy nowdays. I'm afraid it's not a sw problem but the fault of the sensor.  And I'm not sure if the reseller really checked the colours... So I'm still not sure if these are wrong devices or the 370i serie has a poor quality sensor.

  • MSI Starcam 370i Videosecurity error "Please upgrade to DirectX 9........."

    Hi,
I have a Starcam 370i video works fine but when I run the Videosecurity application I get this error  "Please upgade to directx 9 to run this application"  I have tried upgrading to DirectX 9 on two different PC's but get the same error on each one.   The DirectX install is from Microsoft.    I have seen this problem reported on several other web sites but not here.  (but no fix)  One PC is a 600 MHz Netvista, one a new Lenovo 3000 with the latest video drivers.
    Hope you can help

a search revealed several other threads with the same problem
however no-one comes back to say if any suggestions worked or not
what is your VGA hardware? maybe it is not compatible with DirectX 9.0?
try contacting MSI support, and if you get a response that helps you, please post back here for future reference!
    How to contact MSI.

I have a stable Windows 2000 SP4 machine, with P3 1Ghz, PC133 392MB Ram.  Got my StarCam last week and installed it.  Within minutes, I had a sudden crash to bluescreen and immediate reboot.  With the StarCam connected, it crashes in minutes.  With the StarCam disconnected, my machine runs for hours.
I used the install mini-cd that came with the StarCam, but after the crashes, I downloaded the current drivers from the MSI website, and ran the install application.  Same version and did not fix the problem.
      StarCam 370i driver
      Support model    Star Cam 370i
      Description    Driver version: 5.3.0.1
      Date    2005-4-19
      Your System OS    Win9X/ME/2000/XP(3421KB)
What could be causing this trouble?

I am having a similar problem on Windows XP SP2.  When I plug the cam in, the lights come on and the device begins to install, it gets past the unsinged driver part and the system restore point, it then comes to copying files across and seems to get to the last one TwainUI.dll and the status abr is on 100% then bam, reboots every time.
I have updated my Motherboard drivers and Bios (MS-6457/SiS645DX)
The system log contains this information:
    BCCode : 9f     BCP1 : 00000101     BCP2 : F8F83818     BCP3 : F8D26228
    BCP4 : 823E8A90     OSVer : 5_1_2600     SP : 2_0     Product : 256_1
    BCCode : 9f     BCP1 : 00000101     BCP2 : 81AD7020     BCP3 : F8C98560
    BCP4 : 823E8A90     OSVer : 5_1_2600     SP : 2_0     Product : 256_1
I then changed my recovery options so I could read the BSOD,
    DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE
    STOP 0x0000009F (0x00000101, 0xF8CBE988, 0x82227870, 0x823E8A90)
The TwainUI.dll installs to several locations it seems to be the C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\SNPSTD3C copy that it happens on, but may not be related.
I have read that it may be Symantec Antivirus that is causing the issue, I will investigate this further also.

  • Starcam 370i Set up

I have not so long ago got my hands on a msi starcam 370i cause i was told they were a very good web cam but i seem to be havin a few problems settin up the security part of the cam
On the device settings page i have the starcam as the video device but on the video source it says "none" , i have been tryin to get the alarm workin and sending emails and i think i got all that right but this Video Source has got me baffeled and i dont know how to fix this ..... any info would be very welcome on this matter
Just incase its a factor i am running a AMD Athlon FX57 San Diego , Duel XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB XXX Edition GDDR3 on a Sapphire PURE RD580 CrossFire M/B

thats correct - video device is set to Starcam 370i, and the video source will show as 'None' - it does on my system, but it still works

  • StarCam 370i - need new recording program!

    Hello,
I bought MSI StarCam 370i yesterday.. and it was amazing! My last webcam recorded & pictured in 352x288 max! With StarCam 370i I can record in 640x480... and the price... it was AMAZING! Only $25 !! When you see this webcam in shop.. just go and buy it... theres nothing to lose.. now I got 2 MSI products in my home and they both rock!
Okay here is my problem.. I installed all soft from CD, got drivers installed too.. all works just perfect.. but when I record video with VideoSecurity then the video file seems to be RAW so it takes tons of spaces, and the recorded video doesnt have any audio thought.. :(
So what do you recommend? I have tried some softwares:
RiverPast Cam Do - lag with all codecs
Webcam Video capture - same, lag
MSI Video Security - too big files and no audio
    MSI My Guard - lag

Nah... I dont use VirtualDub for recording... but I found good software few days ago.. it's name is H264 Webcam Pro 2.32 ( http://h264soft.com/ )
You can use it just for recording or for like spy cam.. I think its better than MSI's spy cam software.. thanks anyways..

  • Starcam 370i Video Security Software "VideoSecurity is going to terminate !"

    Hi,
I have a Starcam 370i which is installed and functions without any problems (I can see image etc) when I run the AMCAP software. I then install the latest VideoSecurity software from the Website and now get "VideoSecurity is going to terminate !" error when trying to run the software. I only purchased the Starcam 370i so I could use it with the VideoSecurity software.
Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?
I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. With 5.12.2.25 Starcam driver
    Thanks.

I can get a pciture in the AMCAP software and other software but cannot start the Myguard software.

  • Focus Problem on Solaris with jdk 1.3.1

    Hi all,
We are having a focus problem on Solaris. The same code works fine on Windows without any problem.
I am sending the test code and run steps below which you can compile and repeat the problem.
NOTE: When we put a comment on the line "f1.requestFocus();" in TestFocus.java it works OK.
    Run Steps :
    1. Run TestFocus.class
    2. A JFrame appears with 2 text field and a button
    3. Try to write something on the text fields. It works OK.
    4. Click the button to open a new JFrame
    5. A new JFrame opens with a single text field and a button.
    6. Click the button to close the second frame
    7. You are now on the main JFrame
    8. Try to write something on the text fields. It works OK.
    9. Repeat the steps 4-7
    10. Try to write something on the text fields. You are able to focus and write on the first field. BUT you cannot select or write the second Field!

This issue may be specific to IE, I haven't tested elsewhere yet. Our web application is centered around a signed applet that is initialized with XML data via Javascript. We first noticed the problem when our users started upgrading from the 1.3.x plug-in to the 1.4.x plug-in. The major symptom was that shortcut keys stopped working. I debugged the problem off and on for about a month before I boiled it down to a very simple program that demonstrates the issue (included below). Basically, the program has a function that adds a JButton to a JPanel and registers a keyboard listener (using the new DefaultKeyboardFocusManager class) that prints a message to the console. This function is called by the applet's init() method, as well as by a public method that can be called from Javascript (called callMeFromJavascript()). I also included a very simple HTML file that provides a button that calls the callMeFromJavascript() method. You can test this out yourself: To recreate, compile the class below, JAR it up, sign the JAR, and put in the same dir with the HTML file. Load the HTML file in IE 5.0 or greater, and bring the console up in a window right next to it. Now click the button that says init--you should see the small box appear inside the button that indicates it has the focus. Now press some keys on your keyboard. You should see "KEY PRESSED!!!" appearing in the console. This is proper behavior. Now click the Init Applet from Javascript button. It has removed the button called init, and added one called "javascript". Press this button. Notice there is no focus occurring. Now press your keyboard. No keyboard events are registered.
Where is gets interesting is that if you go back and make this an unsigned applet, and try it again, everything works fine. This bug only occurs if the applet is signed.
Furthermore, if you try it in 1.3, signed or unsigned, it also works. So this is almost certainly a 1.4 bug.
Anyone disagree? Better yet, anyone have a workaround? I've tried everything I could think of, including launching a thread from the init() method that sets up the components, and then just waits for the data to be set by Javascript. But it seems that ANY communication between the method called by Javascript and the code originating in init() corrupts something and we don't get keyboard events. This bug is killing my users who are very reliant on their shortcut keys for productivity, and we have a somewhat unique user interface that relies on Javascript for initialization. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I tried adding the requestFocus() line you suggested... Same behavior.
A good thought, but as I mention in my description, the applet has no trouble gaining the focus initially (when init() is called). From what I have seen, it is only when the call stack has been touched by Javascript that I see problems. This is strange though: Your post gave me the idea of popping the whole panel into a JFrame... I tried it, and the keyboard/focus problem went away! It seems to happen only when the component hierarchy is descended from the JApplet's content pane. So that adds yet another variable: JRE 1.4 + Signed + Javascript + components descended from JApplet content pane.
And yes, signed or unsigned DOES seem to make a difference. Don't ask me to explain why, but I have run this little applet through quite a few single variable tests (change one variable and see what happens). The same JAR that can't receive keyboard events when signed, works just fine unsigned. Trust me, I'm just as baffled as you are.
