StarOffice 8 - Language / Spellcheck issue

StarOffice 8 came installed with my new notebook.
The spellcheck function doesn't seem to work at all...
Tool - Options - Language Setting - Languages... are all set to English (USA)
but no errors are being auto-detected and when spellcheck is initiated it returns no errors (and I'm definitely spelling things wrong)
When the spellcheck window pops up the Dictionary Language box is empty,
however the "Continue checking at beginning" / "Spellcheck is complete" pop-ups prevent me from trying to set it...
is it possible that StarOffice was installed w/out any dictionary?
if so where do I get one / how do I install?

I am not sure why you are having a problem. I have used SO8 since it was in beta and have not experienced this problem. It may be a problem with the default template in which a language is set. Since use a Canadian English and Canadian French template, I had to create my own template and assign it as the default (File>Templates>Organize).
You do have to turn on autospellcheck (letters with squiggly line). And there are language settings in options. It may be that something has been turned off. Right clicking and selecting Character will quickly tell you which dictionaries have been installed.

Custom key figure description multi for the language support issue
The key figure is created in English language and description also in English.
When I have logged in to English language and checked the report in Bex ,description of key figure is available.
But when I log in to other language(German, Spanish Portuguese and etc) environment the description in Bex rport of key figure is showing blank
In rsa1 in both English and other(German, Spanish Portuguese and etc) environments key figure description is okay and correctly displaying.
Please post me your inputs on the same.

This are the key figures XPRECIO: Transactional Price and XPRECLIST: Price list, its maintained in RSA1 tcode at info object level .
These two KF descriptions are maintained in English, its working fine when I login into SAP Bex analyzer with English language and its not showing the description for the languages (German, Spanish, Portuguese and etc).
Its need to be displayed in when login into SAP Bex analyzer with language German, Spanish, Portuguese and etc.

Language conversion issue in PI7.1

Hi,
My sceanrio is file to Idoc. Am facing language conversion issues.
For example one of the field in the source file is having the value "Différence sur net". And in the IDOC field the value is appearing as "DiffÃ©rence sur net".
With the same data I have done file to file scenario with and without content conversion and the output is coming correctly as "Différence sur net".
I have enabled Unicode check box in RFC destination also in XI server. But still its coming "DiffÃ©rence sur net" . Please advice how can I get the target field value same as that of the source field vale.
Can anyone help me to sort out this issue?

In Channel try with using the File type: text and encoding : UTF-8.

Arabic Language aliases issue in Web Analysis reports

Dears,
I'm using Web Analysis to build reports with aliases in Arabic language. Aliases appear as small squares. Is there any configuration or workarounds should I do to solve this issue?

Hi,
Make sure that you have the right version of JRE in the system. Please try this steps in one client machine
1. Uninstall all the version f JREs from a client computer
2. launch Web Analysis Studio from that client computer
3. It will prompt you to download & install the compatible JRE from the Web Analysis server into your client computer
4. Install the JRE

Language setting issue with Xcelsius 2008 - Web Service NW BI

French language is set during Xcelsius installation.
In Xcelsius, English is always set as the preference language.
With Web Service NW BI, I get text data returned in French.
English is also defined as default language in SAP BW BI .
I would like to get text data in English.
I don't get this situation when executing the same dashboard in an another PC with only english installation.
Can someone could explain to me how to solve this issue ?

Hi Sana,
You might be using Flex 3 sdk library files.
Just check in Properies of your Flex project -> Flex Build Path -> Library Path .
You might get the library files as Flex 3.*
If it is the case then change it to Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix 3.
now create a new project and compile your application and use the same swf.
Otherwise try to import any existing Flex 2 project folder with compiler flex 2 ver. then try the same swf in your xcelsius application.

Chinese Language import issue

Hi All,
Need to import Chinese Language in 4.6C. Not sure if I am doing a mistake. Any help would be appreciated.
What I did was:
1. I first added ZH & ZF in SE38->RSCPINST and did the simulate and activate actions.
2. Then I imported the Chinese ZH Alone in SMLT and English as supplement (Since the language CD did not have ZF and I mistakenly added it in RSCPINST).
3. Now I go back to SE38->RSCPINST and delete ZF because I did not import it and click Simulate and then activate it does not do anything. It just gives me the following messages and does not go further.

Spellchecking issue resulting in error exception

We're using Squiggly for spell-checking within various text fields in our Goalscape application and have been successfully using it without any big issues.
Until now..
We started to work on Asian languages support and added using of specific Asian fonts to enable input of special characters (Korean, Japan). Knowing that Squiggly does not support these languages yet we updated our logic to disable spell-checking for these languages via SpellUI wrapper class.
This does work fine and there are no issues with disabled spell-checking.
But the trouble begins when we switch to for ex. English language which Squiggly supports and enable spell-checking for all text fields while leaving any Asian characters in some input text fields. Then it seems like Squiggly is not able to handle text fields with those special characters correctly and it results in the following exception each time the spell-checking engine does the spelling job in any such text field:

Sorry, but I forgot to specify that we're using the latest Squiggly prerelease 6 with Flex 3.6 SDK. It means we're using SpellUI class for text components without TLF and any Spark UI components.
Regarding multi-lingual spell checking support..
I know it's not supported and we're not really doing this. So maybe I was just not clear enough about it..
We're only switching between 2 locales and enable/disable spell-checking engine accordingly. It means we are enabling spell-check only for supported Latin-based languages and disabling it for all Asian languages so that only one language is active at a time.
All is fine and working as expected..
But we're also doing another thing..
And that's loading of required fonts (Latin vs Asian) on demand so that user can read and write native language characters. And by further investigation I found out that the issue we're experiencing is related to font rendering instead of Squiggly. The exception occurs when the required font is not yet loaded and font glyphs are not rendered when getLineMetrics() method is called to measure the text internally by Squiggly.
So I will investigate now more on this and probably resolve the issue without needing your help.

Switching Languages & Spellchecking

Hi I recently switched to pages from Word. I work in documents in English and Spanish primarily. How can I easily switch between the two languages so that spellchecking recognizes the correct one?

You can have multiple languages in a single document, if you wish. Language is a text property, set in the Text Inspector, More tab, Language section.
If you wish to launch Pages in a language other than your System language, there's a third party app for that called Language Switcher. I'm not a user, but it's been discussed here on occasion and I haven't heard any complaints about it.

Other language Font issue

I'm facing a problem in writing in languages other than English in Photoshop. I'm trying to write in an Indian language Tamil (which is upported by Google also). I have downloaded and installed the tamil fonts and wrote it using a unicode software. It seems to be fine when i type in applications such as word and all.. but when i write or paste those into photoshop, the letters seems to be wrongly placed. KIindly help me immediately

Vietnamese language PDF issue

Hi All,
I have developed a script for Vietnam in Vietnamese language.In print preview its displaying properly but if i download it as PDF that script displaying some strange text.
I translated the text in SE76 but that was not useful
Do we need to install respective adobe readers to see vietnamese language?
In the server VI language fonts are uploaded that i could see in the tcode I18N.

If yes, please upload the font as note 1433470:
The first prerequisite for proper PDF conversion to Vietnamese is the
installation of suitable TrueType fonts with report RSTXPDF2UC which support
special characters from the following Unicode ranges used in
Vietnamese:
LATIN EXTENDED-A
LATIN EXTENDED-B
LATIN EXTENDED
ADDITIONAL
The standard Windows XP fonts CourierNew, Arial, TimesNewRoman do not support
LATIN EXTENDED-B and LATIN EXTENDED ADDITIONAL and PDFs converted using these
Windows fonts will show boxes instead of some Vietnamese characters.
Most (but not all) required Vietnamese characters are contained in Windows XP font
Tahoma (it has no support for LATIN EXTENDED-B).
The standard Windows Vista and Windows 7 fonts Courier New, Arial and Times New
Roman contain all required Unicode ranges. So it is possible to use these fonts.
About the correction in this note, please see below:
Note: Below code correction is only necessary if you do not implement the
SAPscript/Smart Forms correction from note 1428440. If you have the correction
from 1428440 implemented, you do not need the correction from this note
described below for correct PDF output of Vietnamese.
Then please create the spool by PDFUC or SWINCF and take a test.

Multiple languages autocorrect issues

On my iPhone, I added multiple languages and on the keyboard appears the 'globe' to choose one before writing an email. That way, autocorrect adjusts to that language. I added languages to my MacBook Air Air as well, but autocorrect sticks with English and makes my writing in other languages diffcult. Is there a way to have that same iPhone feature for my MacBook (and not having to switch languages in settings or turn off autocorrect)?

Not really. OS X works totally differently in this area than iOS, the keyboard setting being irrelevant. The most you can do is go to system preferences/language & text/text/spelling/setup and check the boxes for the languages you want and then set it to "automatic" and see whether it does anything useful for you.

Have you restarted the application or device after you changed the device language to French? The HWC will pick up the current language when it is started. If you change the device language when the application is already launched, it is not going to pick it up until the next time it is restarted.
The current device language is passed into your application on the query string with the lang parameter. You can display the value of this parameter in an alert to double check the app has the language that you think should be displayed.

Then make sure your localized application has a Locale Properties file that matches what the device is showing for lang.

Language Conversion Issue in PI

The scenario is from IDoc to PI to File System. There is one particular field in the source IDoc which needs language conversion to Spanish.
Can you please guide me when the IDoc XML comes into PI how can I convert that particular field in Spanish Language and also how can I convert the whole IDoc XML content to Spanish language?

Hi Arkesh,
I think you can achive using a work around.
1. Find/write a function module/ BAPI in SAP which can be used for language converison.
2. You can pass the text in english to the function module using RFC lookup function, which in turn will return the converted text in spanish.
I am not an ABAPer but you can ask your abaper to check and developed fxn module based on following fxn modules

TERM_TRANSLATE_TEXT
HR_RU_TRANSLATE_XML

Using foreign language spellchecking in iWork '08?

Hi there,
I'm using an English setup of Mac OS X and iWork '08, yet I occasionally create documents in foreign languages like German, French, Dutch and Spanish. How do I change the language of the spell check to the language I'm using at that particular moment?

I write in Latvian all the time and as far as I know, there are no proofing tools available in this language yet, and a limited number of fonts. Pages works much better than Word for Mac, in that once you have switched the flag to change the keyboard layout, it stays on what you have set it, whereas in Word, it kept resetting itself to American!
I know this doesn't answer the original question, but I thought it was an interesting input!!!
