Stars-ratings for songs disappeared from column

The stars that I had given to songs have disappeared from column (column shows empty); however, if I right-click a song and go to ratings the correct rating is checked!
Help please!
I noticed this happened soon after the last itunes update.

Songs disappear from playlist once in a while but are still in library

Every now and again I notice that a song has disappeared from a playlist. I can copy it back to the playlist from the music library. But what makes the song drop from the playlist? It's either a song I purchased from iTunes or one I imported from cd. Doesn't matter.

Not a Sony Vaio. I have one of the first iPods. It was a gift. It's not that songs disappear from the playlist in the iPod, but from playlists on the computer. They are in the music library and I have to copy and paste them back into the playlist I want them in. I haven't lost any from the music library, fortunately.
The playlists (I have a bunch of them) are blue with a music note. The songs in the playlists have checkmarks next to them, and are all checked. They just drop out of a playlist every now and again and I have to copy it back in. I can go for a while and think "hey, I haven't heard X in a long time". And sure enough it's dropped from the playlist in the computer, and I have to copy it back in from the library, then resynch the iPod. Really weird and mildly annoying.

I just reinstalled itunes on a computer that had a bug and was cleaned up and cleared out. When I reinstalled itunes and it sync'd all my songs disappeared from my ipod. how do I get them back

That is correct.
You should use your backup copy of your computer to put everything abck on the coputer, then you would sync them to your ipod.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer, njot good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

I have added more songs to my library. Half of the library has selected ticks but when I click on any of the others to select them the whole song disappears from the list. Why and what can I do to fix?

Hey Paul,
If I understand correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not grouping the songs from a particular CD together. The cause could be something as minor as a misspelling or slight variations. For more information, see the following resource:

N95 8GB - Over 900 songs disappeared from Music Pl...

Last night all my songs disappeared from Music Player. They still show up in Menu/Tools/File mgr./E:/Sound Clips/Digital Sounds but I can't get them back into Music Player.
I've tried Refresh and still nothing, "Refresh Complete, 0 Songs Added". I've even tried re-booting the device and still nothing.
How do I get this sorted?

Thanks, I find that works ok but it only seems to be a temporary fix. I've done that in the past as well but I find that those files seem to come back and need to be deleted again.

After upgrading to iTunes 7.0.1.8 ~300 oldest songs disappeared from iPod

After I upgraded to 7.0.1.8 and synch'd my 60G iPod about 300 of my oldest songs disappeared from my iPod. I received a message that I had used my 5 allowable installations for the song. But I only have a 60G iPod and a Nano, and I have never allowed anyone to use my computer. So, how do I get these back on my 60G?

Thank you for describing the problems so well. I also have been going nuts trying to restore my Itunes Library to its original (or acceptable) condition. I have a 5th gen 30G Video with about 4250 songs on it. After downloading 7 I found that every song in my Library had been dulplicated or triplicated. Then, a day latr, when I had downloaded album art, I discovered that every other song in any album I had downloaded (from Itunes or my own cd)prior to perhaps version 5 or version 6 could not be found. Luckily, I had an generation 4 Ipod with the original Library and I was able to download that to my external harddrive. I have spending pointless, arduous hours pointing Itunes to the correct file. Its faster to re-download the CD. Of course, I can't do that for any music I had bought from Itunes directly. Its weird because the name of the song is in Itunes, just the file can't be found. And why every other file? When I go into earlier (6 and before)Itunes Libraries, the music files are missing from them. Where did they go? When I try to sync my Ipod with Itunes, it takes forever because Itunes is searching for the missing files. I have tried to ask Apple support directly but I have gotten no response. Star ratings for movies

Is there any plan to implement star ratings for movies? Every other cable system I ever used had these (Cablevision, Comcast), as does Tivo. There are a lot of movies in the listings, and I have found this feature extremely useful to help choosing. When I saw this wasn't on FIOS, I was very tempted to immediately go back to Cablevision, even though I love everything else about FIOS. Please implement this!!!

Hey Tim... Verona neighbor here. The only thing good about Comcast was their guide DATA. They use Gemstar and Verizon uses FYI.
I have voiced my opinion as much as one can. I can only hope they are listening and one day the guide will be accurate and as complete as the competitions.

When selecting playback from itunes library on Mac (purchased album from itunes!) i get random song played from that album and my selected song disappears from view. Nothing to do with shuffle.Mac OSX 10.6.8. Help, doing my nut in!!

What is your iTunes version?
If iTunes 11, have you checked the "Up Next" list? If it is not empty, try if clearing "UP Next" will help:

Select all the songs you want to be in one album, right click and choose "Get Information", delete the album name, if any, and type the one you want. You can also paste the Artwork in the right bottom box. Then click "Accept".

Empty Star Ratings on Songs, why?!

I've rated our over 25,000 song collection and my wife doesn't exaclty have the same musical taste as me, so I set up her own windows login on our pc and imported my library into itunes for her. I then reset all of the ratings to none so she could rate her songs her own way on her login and I could do the same on my login. Once I reset all of the song ratings rather than go blank next to each song they are now empty stars with the same rating I had given them. How can I get these to go away? At this point I think all I can do is make them all 1 stars and let her go from there but I'm curious if I can get around that. Thanks!

Oh, well i don't really understand the logic of rating songs in iTunes, just give em all 5/5... as long as you & your wife like those songs it will show up in yours/hers favorite my top 100/200 songs list...

I see they improved the photo app a little but I can't find a way to do star ratings like in iPhoto. Am I missing something or did they leave the feature out (again)?

No. Not sure why.....
I use Sort Shots for this and some other stuff.
Also, there are other apps that allow this but not in conjunction with the standard photo app. (I don't think)

If a file with the same name is saved again then a version is created. You can see versions from the Files page at https://creative.adobe.com/files. From the Files page click on the file to go to its page. Switch from the Details tab to the Activity tab if needed. You will see the Current Version and any past versions.

Song disappears from my music app on iPhone

I bought an album and at first I had all songs on my music app, but one of the songs disappeared. WWhen I go to itunes store app and look up the song it shows i purchased it but it doesn't allow me to download it. I've searched through recent downloads and downloads on and off my phone but it doesn't allow me to download at all.. What is up with this?

I SOLVED IT!!!
Go to Settings - Then go to Music
Scroll down to where it says "Show all Music" and turn it off.
If "Show all Music" is off, it will only display music that had been downloaded to the device that you are on. The same goes for the videos app.

What happens to the old library? Do I have to install all my songs again?

For general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Star ratings for MP3's on ZEN:Visio

I've been giving my favourite tracks a rating of 5 stars as and when they play on my ZEN. Is it possible to view the rating for the songs so I can create a playlist?
Any advice is highly appreciated.

I did a format on 4-25-08 and was able to move some songs over, so I went to Creative Sync Manager to let it reload the 8,626 mp's I had backed up into a folder on my PC. After 0 hrs., it was 52% complete, so I went to bed and sometime during the night the player froze up. I had to reset it to get it to do anything, and it began rebuilding the library and while traveling with it in my car, it ran the battery down. I couldn't revi've it with the USB cable, so I put it in my travel dock and it started charging. I did a reboot and it rebuilt the library again and is now doing fine (knock on wood). I'm not sure why the battery ran down so quickly, but I normally listen to it in my travel dock, which keeps it charged, so I don't know if my battery is getting ready to quit. The player is not quite a year old, so I would think it should last longer than that. I also am curious what corrupted the hard dri've. Thanks KokChoy-CL for your assistance and if you or anyone else have any other pointers, I would appreciate hearing from you.
