  • 11 years of labVIEW based Vision System development

    Hi,
I am into desiging and development of Machine vision system and mostly using labVIEW. I am using labVIEW from 6.0. I have successfully deployed 27 Vision systems. Please Send me a private message if you are interested in hiring me.
    I have no location preference.

    Hi there!
Did you get hired yet? If not, I'm a recruiter with a small company (a think tank) in Los Angeles, CA. I'm actively seeking a LabVIEW Vision Systems Programmer with 4+ years of LabVIEW programming expereince and demonstrated knowledge of NI LabVIEW vision. Does this sound like your experience?
    Please let me know!

  • Feedback on "Labview based Advanced Instrumentation Systems"

Should on add he book "Labview based Advanced Instrumentation Systems"
by Sumathi and Surekha to a collection of Labview Books? How would
you compare it "Labview for Everyone" by Travis and Kring?
    Howard

    Hi Howard,
Travis and Kring is a classic Labview book and always recommended. We have not really looked at the other book but after looking inside it looks like it some good applications and examples. It really depends on what you are looking for--for fundamental knowledge of LabView I would go for Travis and Kring. Hope this helps.

  • Is labview able to communicate with softwares that can simulate dynamics?

I am currently trying to use labview for my simulation, but it turns out that i still have a long way to go.
And it would really be pain in the a** if i have to make it all in labview.
Is there any way that labview can communicate with other software that can simulate dinamics with 3D model also such as (CATIA, NASTRAN, etc)
    -Just a student-

    Hi Nandha,
Could you please describe exactly what you are trying to do in more details? What kind of simulation are you trying to create? We have several LabVIEW toolkits that might help you accomplish your goals. Please review the following:
NI Developer Suite Control Design and Simulation Option
You can click on specific links on the left-hand side of the above-mentioned website. Particularly look at Control Design Toolkit, System Identification Toolkit, and Simulation Module.
You can quickly create custom LabVIEW user interfaces to verify Simulink models interactively and rapidly build controller prototypes and hardware-in-the-loop test systems based on Simulink models with the Simulation Interface Toolkit. (Simulink is a trademarked product of the MathWorks).
I also found the following links on www.ni.com related to CATIA, and NASTRAN. VRML files are natively supported in LabVIEW 8.20. You can also input VRML files in NI INSIGHT .
I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

  • System management software for LV apps on cRIO and Windows

    Hello All,
Were I work there is a LabVIEW based project that is a distributed system. This system has a main application that can run on Linux, Windows, or cRIO targets. The main application loads "plugins" depending on what platform it is on to do platform specific things. For example, one plugin uses a DLL interface to communicate with OPC servers. Another plugin measures voltages and currents on cards in the cRIO chassis.
The system occasionally needs updates and the sites where it runs are remote. The current solution is to send a technician who installs a full upgrade. We want to move to a rolling upgrade that is automated.
We can certainly roll our own solution, but before we do that we want to investigate existing solutions.
I believe such systems are under the buzzwords System Management Software and WSUS the windows update solution is one of these.
Is there a System Management Software package that would deploy to cRIOs and Windows machines? (We have the Linux one solved already, although we might redo it if there is something really slick out there.)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For cRIO's you might want to have a look at the Real-Time Target System Replication.

  • How many pcs can be activated with a Labview Professional dev.system licence?

The license manager is smarter than that. Eventhough you installed the OS several times and the actual machine ID probably did change because of that, you did not completely change the machine itself, and the machine ID is based on several characteristics of your hardware and software installation. So the license server can detect if it is just a reinstalled machine or instead a completely different one.

  • Signal Express not activated with Labview Full Development System Volume License

I'm using a volume license manager to generate license for disconnected machines.  I just upgraded to Labview 2009.  The license files work for labview but are not working for signal express.  I have the Labview full development system which included signal express in the past.  Both labview and signal express work fine on my computer that also has the volume licensing manager software installed.   This computer is connected to the license server.  I need to get signal express activated on my disconnected machines.

LabVIEW Full Development licenses still include Signal Express. Are you saying that whenever you are connected to the server you can run Signal Express just fine, but whenever you create a disconnected license Signal Express is not able to launch? Can you verify that you are, in fact, checking a license out from the server whenever you are connected to the network?
If you still have trouble I would recommend calling NI support so we could get more informatioin (such as your license file, contract ID, etc).

  • Is there any free simulation software for  z/OS environment?

    HI! Gurus:
I want to warm up to be ready for z/OS.
At this moment I do not have z/OS yet.
Is there any free simulation software for z/OS on internet for trial?
    Thanks a lot!

There is a hardware simulator call "hercules" (http://www.hercules-390.org/) but it comes without z/OS (or any other OS). On top, IBM does not allow to run z/OS on the emulator but only on their hardware. On the the mailinglist, however, there were in the past a few people able to technically make OS/390 or z/OS to run. Some time ago I played with this emulator and installed z-Linux (31-bit).
z/OS is VERY different to everything you may have seen before, it requires a huge amount of special knowledge.
You may get an idea about the architecture by installing an (ancient - but likewise) system:

  • Where can I find more information on Control and Simulation Software?

Where can I find out more information on Control and Simulation Software for G (GSIM)?
I am currently programming a PID controller using a Siemens PLC. I have installed LabVIEW DataLogging and Supervisory Control Module which allows LabVIEW to interface with my PLC.
Would appreciate if you could offer me some advice on whether it would be possible for the PLC PID controller to control a first order process model created using GSIM? Please email me at [email protected] if you could offer me any advice or assistance.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
    Best regards
    Donald

I see that you posted to the DSC forum, but you did not get GSIM information. Below is the link for the user manual for the Control and Simulation Toolkit. It is the single best source for info on the toolkit.

  • Is firefox 5.0 compatible with non-intel based mac systems?

I downloaded 5.o previously this year & it wouldn't work because after downloading I discovered that it would only work with Intel based Mac systems. Has this changed? I don't want to go thru the download process again if it won't work.
    Thanks.

No. as of Firefox 4.0 and newer from Mozilla you need both OSX 10.5+ and Intel.
Either you can still use Firefox 3.6.18as you are using (3.6.19 will be coming in some 5 weeks) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or use a third party version built for the old PPC.

  • Copyright issues for a LabVIEW based application

Has anyone filed a Copyright for a LabVIEW based application? Copyright office is asking for printed code, which may not work in the case of LabVIEW. Any suggestions?
    Ravi Beniwal

My general experience with copyright and patent law (copyrights in both music and software) is that, for the copyright process, no individual is going to evaluate your code and "approve" your code/program as with a patent application. The documentation of the code is necessary to build the record that you have created "x" method and someone should not copy your "x" method. I would send a print out of your code in G and perhaps a flow chart.
If you are looking for protection as to what you program does then you may want to consider patent application, but this is significantly more expensive than the copyright process. Also, under the copyright law, your work is considered copyright protected from the day at which you display copyright info on all of the objects and this is important in proving (later, if needed, if someone copies your work) that you have sought to actively protect your intellectual property. So put (c) 2005 on all the materials that contain your code and or application.

  • Error while trying to send a file through XI to SAP R/3 based OLTP system

    Hi all,
I encountered with an error in the runtime workbench for the below mentioned scenario
    ERROR message
<b>Unknown error: javax.ejb.CreateException: Neither messager server nor application server are defined for system IXI</b>
    SCENARIO
The manufacturing system triggers an equipment failure. The failure message is sent through SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) to the SAP R/3 based OLTP system,
changing the equipment status to a failure state. This is achieved by triggering the execution of Remote Function Call (RFC) present in the OLTP system from the SAP XI integration server.
    Thanks and regards
    Jishi

    Hi Jishi,
Please check the Receiver RFC communication channel in your integration directory.
Check the logon parameters provided. From the error message, I guess there is no application server or message server provided, which is mandatory for XI to logon to the target backend R/3 system.

  • IPad (and iPhone) on European electrical systems

I am traveling to countries with 220v and 50Hz electrical systems. The power cable on my iPad and iPhone say they are ok with 110-220v and 50-60Hz. But, I read there may be more protection needed for electronics. Do I need anything else (other than the correct plug?)
    Thanks
    KiwiniD

You just need an adapter to plug the charger into the wall outlet.

  • Can a 128 ssd storage still effectively work if I install windows 8.1 plus msoffice and a window-based proposal system? I plan to buy a macbook air entry level with 1.7 gh i5 processor.

Can a 128 ssd storage still effectively work if I install windows 8.1 plus msoffice and a window-based proposal system? I plan to buy a macbook air entry level with 1.7 gh i5 processor.

If you are going to use Mac OS X and its associated applications, and a BootCamp partition with Windows 8, and MS Office and all of the work created there, you will more than likely run out of space on a 128 GB SSD pretty quickly...especially if you put any music, photos or videos on it.  Those things take a lot of space so you will have to be very, very careful about what you want to put on a 128 GB storage space.  You would be better off going for 512 GB with what you plan on doing with it.
