Start Disk Full MBP won't load beyond background image

Hello! My start disk was warning me it was approaching 'full' so I went out & bought an external hard drive.. backed up one user (primary) on the hard drive, then logged out so I could log in as the other user to back up that side of the computer's data, & when I logged in there all that loaded was a purple background (not my normal background) No access to any icons, applications, data, magnifying glass, etc.. nothing loaded basically. So I tried to log back in as the original user & ran into the exact same probelm, except from here I can access A SINGLE window of Safari.. it automatically loads just the Safari bar at the top & I can browse the internet still.. but cannot open any content such as youtube or download of course, also cannot open any other applications though it will open garage band's bar, just no files..
I would like to know what I need to do to be able to get in to either profile so I can delete at least enough files or get my computer to at least let me back up that other user so I can do whatever you recommend I need to to get my computer working again. Thanks!

After that, check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menubar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen,you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD which will need to be replaced (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

  • IPhoto[v 9.5.1] on MBP won't load photos from iPod touch Gen4 32GB, even if let run overnight

    iPhoto [v 9.5.1] on MBP won't load photos from iPod touch Gen4 32GB, even if let run overnight and don't let machine go to sleep.
    MBP has 8GB Ram and separate video card using 2.3 Ghx i7 processor ... so i don't think it is a hardware issue.

    Hello A_MadDog,
    It sounds like you are not able to import photos from your Camera Roll on your iPod touch.  I recommend following the steps in the article below for the issue you described:

  • How to load a background Image on a JDialog object

    Hi All, Actually i am new to java programing and i am stuck in this problem. I am developing a java application which is dialog based (using JDialog objects) and i want to load a background image on my dialog. I hope this could be done and i really appreciate your help because i must deliver this project and this is a user interface requirement.

    Try something along the lines of this: Create a new class called BackgroundImagePanel and have it extend JPanel.
    Have an attribute in the class for your image, and a method to set it.
    Override isOpaque() to return true.
    Override the paintComponenet method as such:
    public void paintComponent (Graphics g) {
    super.paintComponent(g);
    if( image == null ) return;
    Icon icon = new ImageIcon(image);
    icon.paintIcon(this, g, x, y);
    Add this panel to your JDialog and then add other component to this panel.
    You might have to tweak this a bit, but it should get you close...

  • Tried to install OSX Mavericks now MBP won't load

    Hi all
    Last night I tried to install OSX Mavericks on my MBP mid-2010 running Mountain Lion. It downloaded fine and then seemed to install fine. When the message came up saying it was going to restart automatically the spinning wheel hanged, which was the first problem. I switched off the MBP and turned it on again. It now refuses to boot up and stays on the Apple bootup screen with the spinning wheel.
    I've tried to restart in recovery mode but this doesn't seem to work. It just goes back to the spinning wheel and there is no progress bar that pops up to indicate the recovery data is being downloaded from the net (I don't have a recovery partition).
    I have a backup external hard drive that I can use to restore my MBP and then try upgrading again, but I can't use that until I get into recovery mode.
    Is anyone able to help?
    Thanks

    Ok so I worked out how to get into recovery mode. Turns out I was doing it wrong! I used an external USB drive to access recovery mode.
    I ran disk utility which identified and fixed some errors on the HD. I thought this might solve the problem but when I restarted the same problem occurred. I then restored my time machine backup which thankfully worked.
    I tried installing mavericks again! Upon restarting and completing the install, I got the message 'OSX has been installed. Your computer will now restart'. After the countdown had finished I got the beach ball which span eternally again, just like last time. After about 10 mins I did a hard reset and again OSX won't load.
    Lame...

  • Start disk full problem

    When I open photoshop or attempt to sync my iphone, I get the message, that my start disk is full. I can move music, but I can't upload my pictures. I considered using Mackeeper but I see here that it might not be a good idea. Any suggestions?

    Empty the Trash.
    In the Finder, select your hard drive on the desktop, and do a "Get Info".
    What is the capacity of your drive?
    How much free space do you have?
    If it is less than 10-15% free, its time for a larger drive.

  • Safari & Firefox: Won't load pages with images

    Everything was working fine one night, and then the next, I couldn't load any pages with graphics. The one caveat: Google loads without a problem, even a Google image search. Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs. Thoughts?
    I've seen similar posts, but none of them really apply, and the only one that did, didn't have an answer.

    Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs.
    You're saying that, in addition to images not loading, pages are loading slowly or not at all, as well?
    If this is the case, then the problem isn't isolated to images. It sounds more like a problem accessing web pages altogether.
    As a troubleshooting measure, try setting fixed DNS addresses, either in your router's configuration or in System Preferences -> Network. For the latter, click on the network connection that you use, e.g. "Airport" or "Ethernet," then click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter a pair of fixed DNS addresses in the section with that label, as follows:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    You can copy and paste those directly from this forum into that DNS address field.
    (Those are OpenDNS addresses, available for use by anyone. DNS addresses are the addresses of servers that tell your web browser where to look when you type a web page address in your web browser.)
    If that doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. But your symptoms (slow or no page loads; and even when pages load, images not loading) sound a lot like the DNS problems I had before I started using alternate DNS addresses.

    You might want to reconsider the use of absolutely positioned div's for layout purposes...
    it often leads to big difficulties.http://www.apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php
    Regarding your loading gif, try defining a container for the picture
    and position your loading gif as a centered non-repeating background for container
    and insert your image in the container.

  • 2 out of 6 pages not loading browser background image

    Does anyone know why out of 6 pages on my website, only 2 of them are not loading the choosen browser background image? All other pages load them in when uploaded to the site online. They appear to be correct in iWeb before publishing.
    Once they are published, it is just white. If I select a color instead of the image, the color displays. Thoughts?

    One more question. I know that when you publish your
    site to a non .mac acct, the podcasting code needs to
    be changed. Can someone help me out with that? You
    click the subsribe button and it launches iTunes, but
    then it errors out. Thoughts?
    Your RSS URL is invalid: http://www.onetvshow.com/ONE/our%20podcast/rss.xml

    Does anyone know of a free/cheap program I can use to
    edit some of the code. I need to insert some form
    mail code and then also for the podcast code edits.
    You are asking the wrong guy if it repetitive and on going basis, I say AppleScript

  • Start up disk full, computer won't turn on

    I have a 2008 Macbook pro, and earlier today it said "start up disk almost full", and did not want to let me download some pictures to the desktop. Now the computer will not turn on at all!
    It gets as far as the spinner and the apple logo and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I tried safe book, single user mode, and even just taking the battery out and putting it back in, but nothing works.
    I do not know where my install disk is and I really don't want to lose my files, there is some irreplaceable stuff there.
    Is there ANYTHING I can try????? Do I have no choice but to try and find the installation disk? If I can't find that, what are my options?????

    It appears that you are left with two choices.  You can try Target Disk Mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
    Or take out the HDD and install it in an enclosure and attach it to another Mac.
    That will allow you to transfer and/or delete files from the HDD.  Do not forget to empty trash.  Only then will free space be allocated.
    Ciao.

  • Startup disk full - Outlook won't start to delete

    Hi,
    I have Outlook on my MBP and it crashed last night and said I had to rebuild my identity.  Before it will rebuild, it wants to backup everything.  This has filled up my startup disk. 0 space available.  Now I can't get anything out of my outlook or get in there to delete.  I have already deleted all of my pictures and documents and dowloads.   Is there anyway to delete what it started to backup in Outlook so there is room?  HELP!  this is my life...
    Thanks!

    Have you emptied the trash yet?

  • MBP Won't load - stuck at grey apple logo

    Ok here's my dilema ...
    I've read posts about this same problem but I can't get this mbp to do any of the suggested fixes!!
    Here's where I screwed up....
    I was playing around with iWeb 09' trying to make a better website for my company... when all of a sudden it wouldn't load from the tool bar it would bounce up and down once or twice and nothing would happen.
    I then by mistake put the file on my desktop then wanted to get rid of it so I dropped it into my trash. oops!
    Well then everytime I clicked on iweb it would say file is damaged or incomplete.
    So when I got home from work I decided to try to reinstall the application with the app disk that came with my computer.
    Well instead of being patient and figuring out how to install just the iweb app. I reinstalled the whole bundle !! oops again... I know I don't deserve to be a mac user !! but I've fell in love!!
    OK now the install finished and it asked me to restart now so I did ... and this is where I'm stuck...
    It restarts and goes to the apple grey screen with a small bar that starts to load and then disappears and gets stuck at the spinning gear.
    I've manually ejected the disc by holding down the trackpad. And I put in the os x disc and tried to get into setup by holding down C after I hear the chime and until I see the spinning gear and that doesn't pull up anything!!
    What should I do?? PLEASE HELP!!

    Hello and welcome to the discussions, I would try three things first. I reset SMC (unplug the MBP and remove the battery. Then hold the power button down for at least 20-30 seconds) Replace battery, plug in and try starting in Safe-Mode (press and hold the left "Shift" key after hearing the startup tone. Release when you see the Apple logo. Safe-Mode takes a long time to load...be patient.
    Next I would try to repair the disk. Start in Single-user mode (Press and hold the "Apple/Command" and the "S" keys after hearing the startup tone. Release when you see the Apple logo or the screen goes to a black and white text. If this works wait for a command prompt it will be a "#" then type in "/sbin/fsck -fy" No quotation marks and a space between fsck and -fy.
    This will repair the disk. If ANY repairs are made repeat the above command until none are made.
    Then type "reboot" again w/o quotations.
    Third I would boot in Verbose mode (press and hold the left "V" key after hearing the startup tone. Release when you see the Apple logo or it starts displaying text. The MBP will freeze at some point but you will be able to see what is failing. Write it down and get back to us.
    Cheers,
    Glynn

  • Time Machine Disk Full but won't delete older backups?

    My Time Machine has worked since day one. And when my 1TB disk gets full, it deletes the older backups and makes room for new ones.
    However, since last week, it tells me there is an error, the disk is full, and I need to make room for XXXX amount of gigs before the back up can be completed.

  • MBP won't load CDs

    Hi,
    Suddenly my 15 inch MBP is having problems loading audio CDs. It accepts and plays one and then rejects any others. It struggles to load, tries a few times then ejects disc without giving a message of any sort. If I restart it plays the first disc then rejects others. All the discs are commercial products. A DVD loaded ok. Anyone have any clues?
    best
    d

    Well in as much as they work at home one would assume that there are issues with internet service at your place of work or for some reason they are blocking web sites. As long as you have no issues at home it would seem that your MBP is OK.
