Start menu icon & taskbar is gone

My start menu icon & taskbar is gone. I cannot find any way to restore them. Customize shows nothing for putting them back. How do I do this?

I was up too late and not thinking at all. Please forgive me for this last message. The question just has no meaning in Firefox. Thanks for being here.

  • P55-A5312/Classic 8 start/Start menu icon not responding

I have a P55-A5312 laptop running on Windows 8.  I have the Classic Start 8, and recently the start menu icon hasn't been responding when I click on it.  It worked for a bit yesterday but now it isn't working again.
Two days ago, I tried a power reset.  That did little if anything.

Sally, try reinstalling Classic Start 8.

  • How to add shortcuts to user Start Menu and Taskbar using Microsoft Office 2013 OCT?

Hello, I am kindly seeking your help.  How do I add the shortcuts for Word 2013, Excel 2013, and PowerPoint 2013 to the users Start Menu and taskbar when installing MS Office 2013 from a network installation point? I am using Office2013
OCT to customize setup and deploying MS Office to Windows 7 x64bit clients. I tried [StartMenuFolder] and [AppData], but they did not work.

    Hi
There is a known issue about
changing the shortcut location for an Office 2013 application:
When you try to change the shortcut locations for Office 2013 applications in the Office Customization Tool (OCT), you receive the following error message:
Invalid start in folder. Please try again.
Then, you add the Start in location for Office 2013 and run a customized installation. When you double-click the shortcuts that are displayed on the desktop, Configure shortcuts does
not work and you receive the following error message:
Sorry, we couldn’t find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?
To work around this issue, type a single open bracket ([) in the Start in
    field.
In addition, refer to the link below on "Configure shortcuts" in OCT:

Ok, I'm having this problem also.
Is their an easy way to install libx11 and or remove libx11-xcb?  When I try to remove/unistall libx11-xcb pacman will not remove because it is depended on by other programs.  Last time I ran accross something like this I removing the package and everything that depended on it with one pacman command, then one by one I had to reinstalled the packages that had depended on it....
I have no problem doing that, but just wondered if there was a better way.

  • Firefox won't load when using desktop/start menu icons but loads when starting off links in emails

When I try to start Firefox by the start menu, desktop or any other icon Firefox opens but then freezes and won't respond at all.
If I go to an email and then click on a link than Firefox will open and then load as normal and I can then go about using Firefox.
This has only be happening for the last few days and I have tried all the trouble shots and nothing has changed.

I Have this problem too. won't even start when dbl click the .exe file directly either. but a link in another app or email works fine. I have tried all the stuff here and uninstalled and reinstalled countless times. Using new profile, disabling Norton firewall and antivirus for the installs, only thing that worked was going back to v3.6. and a real early thunderbird too (it was also crashing on starting) Was fine for about three weeks then updated them, The went in stages not all at once and was fine till the newest group of versions. then went back to crashing. this time backgrading did not work. I installed the newest versions Firefox & Thunderbird many more times and by accident found that fresh after a install could open TB first and click a link in a email and FF started ok.
but still will not start from desktop or windows explorer
It is ridiculous to have to open another app to click on a link you don't want to get to where you do want. What is the difference in the links.
    ks
also would not start in safe mode or a completely new install.
V.17.0 is the FF thats installed now and at least works as long as I don't try to open it
from desktop or windows explorer, more than a little nervous about going to v.20.

  • Desktop/Start Menu Icons won't stay away...

Ok, here's my dilemma. I am very meticulous about my desktop Icons and my start menu organization... I keep a quick launch Icon for iTunes, but no start menu or desktop icons... however, since I've upgraded to iTunes 7, every time I restart iTunes it reinstalls the icon and the start menu folder, and I cannot find an option to disable said icons... it's REALLY annoying me, as was the (seemingly) corrected stuttering issue... this is really a disappointing new iTunes upgrade... I'm very surprised that apple would rush out such a shoddy product...I haven't tried syncing my iPod yet, I'm afraid to... I just hope that my new 80 gig will work fine once I get it...

    iBod,
OK, that seems to have done the trick. I had to play around with the grid spacing – there seems to be a setting somewhere just right of the middle of the scale that enables icons to be positioned almost at the L/H edge of the desktop.
Thanks for your help. One of those ultimately unimportant but nonetheless annoying little issues.

  • Lost start menu icons and not listed in right click open with option +more.

Weird. I need help. Quicktime 7.3.0.70 only--Start menu lost it's icons in the quicktime folder. When right clicking video files, the "open with" option no longer displays quicktime as a program. And lastly, open an avi file or even mpg and the program stops responding without even getting to play the file. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times but can't seem to fix these issues. Can anyone help? Thanks. This just seemed to happen out of the blue.

I also have lost the icons for Quicktime in my start menu under Windows XP. The icons actually work when you do click them but the icons are not loaded. Everything functions fine and it's the newest version of Quicktime installed. I also have the newest version of iTunes installed. I ended up manually adding my own icons on the start menu as I've uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime several times to no avail and even attempted to flush the windows icon cache. No go. This just started happening recently.
It's not happening on my WinXP Pro laptop however, although I've yet to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes+Quicktime.
*Right-Click Open With Menu still functions properly and the icon image is appearing correctly in that menu.

  • Firefox takes around 30 seconds to open a new window (not tab) when i click on the icon in my start menu or taskbar why?

When i click on the firefox icon in the menu it takes around 30 seconds to open firefox and i have no idea why.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • How to add shortcuts to user Start Menu and Taskbar or Desktop with using Microsoft Office 2013 Config file.

    Hello,
How can i add the shortcuts for Office 2013 feature (Word, excel, ext) to the users taskbar or desktop with using config.xml file while installing the Microsoft Office 2013 from SCCM?
I know how to do that with OCT, but i have another problem if i use OCT. So i have to do it with Config.file, but i don't know which code can i write on config.xml file to create shortcut on desktop or taskbar...

  • Nokia C2-01 start menu icons

Hello everybody! My Ovi Store app was on my menu screen, but when I updated it, it disappeared and it was placed in the folder "Collection". So I'm wondering, is it posibble to put the Ovi Store icon back on the menu screen again? Thanks in advance.

Hi sheldrick, same problem has occurred in my nokia C2-01. CrossDeath is not talking about home screen, it is the menu screen he is talking about, the screen which appears when we press the middle squared button. This screen contains many icons like contact list, messaging, organizer, logs, settings, etc. I think now you understand what we are discussing.
Same problem occured in my Nokia C2-01 that when I upgraded my nokia store app, its icon disappeared from main menu and the new version is saved in collections folder where the older version is, and both versions are there at the same time, I mean the newer version didn't replace the older one and the icon of older version has also disappeared from main menu. I need to bring its icon back again in the main menu list. Tell me what to do? I have also removed the new version but the problem still exists. I still have the older version in my collections folder but its icon has not appeared in main menu. I want it back. I have tried many options but no change. Can you help about it?
    Thanks

  • Is the Nightly 12.0a1 64 bit icon in the start menu for Windows 7 supposed to have a jump list for frequent pages visited and tasks (open new tab, open new window, enter private browsing)?

Both my standard Firefox icon and Waterfox icon have jump lists in the start menu and taskbar. Even the pinned Nightly icon in the taskbar shows this, but it doesn't show in the start menu. Just odd to see that the icon in the start menu doesn't offer this feature considering it does in the taskbar. I've reinstalled several times but it doesn't seem to change anything.

There are hidden settings that control the display of jump lists, check these to make sure that they have been enabled.
Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter, accept the warning message, and a list of preferences will be displayed.
In the search box at the top type '''taskbar.lists''', it will then display a small number of preferences. Check the values of the following preferences (you can double-click on them to change the value)
    * '''browser.taskbar.lists.enabled''' - should be set to true to enable jump lists
    * '''browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled''' - set to true to have the frequent sites displayed
    * '''browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled''' - set to true to have the tasks displayed
    * '''browser.taskbar.lists.recent.enabled''' - set to true to have the recent sites displayed
By default the first 3 settings are true, the last is false.

  • UEV 2.0 - Support for Windows 7 Start Menu & Taskbar

    Hi all,
According to Microsoft, UEV 2.0 should now provide out of box support for the Start Menu & Taskbar:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/jj720570.aspx
"Roaming of additional operating system settings: We have added settings roaming for the Start Menu, Taskbar, folder options, and region and language"
I have enabled Desktop settings using GPO as I'm aware this is disabled by default.
I've found many articles which direct you to the UEV Gallery for downloading a custom XML template but I want to use the OOB support provided in UEV 2.0.  However, I appear to be having some difficulty syncing the start menu & pinned taskbar icons
using UE-V 2.0 in Windows 7 (x64).  Has anyone had any success in using this or can someone confirm that this feature is available in UEV 2.0?
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hi Felipe and Jim,
The best solution is to use Folder Redirection with UE-V. This then allows you to centrally locate the users %APPDATA% which contains the pinned icon files.
I also found a link the the same Startmenu.xml but you must remember to remove the ".lnk" extension from the registry key for the UE-V agent config.
All be it I have some issues where the TaskBar does not sync and then sometimes it does. Still working on this.
    Thanks
    Emilios

  • Taskbar & Start Menu Bug: App Shortcuts set to Run as Admin don't open pinned/recent files in RaA

    This is pretty self-explanatory.
Run in Admin does not kick in when launching a file via a Taskbar's pinned app icon, even when the pinned app has been set to 'Run in Admin' mode (under Properties -> Advanced).
The same thing happens in the Start Menu -- the app can be set (Properties -> Advanced) to Run in Admin mode, and the file does not launch this way.
Why is this a problem?  Because if one is supposed to use accounts like MS asks, then running as a standard user after having a file created in an admin account, that user cannot alter the doc in any way -- no saves work.  At least this is true for files not on the C partition.  The only way W7 permits saves is to run an app in Admin mode.
(I've run into this countless times in the span of a few days with Notepad & PSPad.)
If the W7 team wants to insist that docs won't automatically run in Admin mode under these conditions (which they should!!!!!!), then at least give users a right-click context menu option to Run as Admin from the recent/pinned items list.  Currently there is no such context menu option.
Thereby, all recent items / pinned items are rendered a useless feature.....
    Still loving this OS.
    a.k.a.

Sorry but this is not an answer. The answer to the question is that you cannot run pinned items with the same properties as the pinned program.
I'll use Visual Studio as an option here but I'm assuming this is true for any program.
Yes, right click on the pinned program and choose the Advanced settings and you can have it  run as administrator by default. For SharePoint development for example this is great (and required). You have to run Visual Studio as admin on the local box
in order to deploy your solutions from within Visual Studio.
Even if you pin the program to the start menu or taskbar after you've set it to run as administrator it works.
What doesn't work are pinned files. Visual Studio will pin the last 5 or so solutions you've opened. This is handy if you're flipping back and forth between solutions and saves you an extra step when launching the program in that you can select it from the
context menu that appears attached to the taskbar icon.
However regardless of the setting of the pinned program, files launch in regular user mode and do not respect the "run as administrator" setting on the pinned program. I consider this a bug as it should respect the setting. And as nesmond mentioned, it makes
pinning solutions in Visual Studio useless if you need to run the program as administrator. So the best scenario you have is to pin it and set it to run as administrator but then manually open the file after launching. There is no way to have the shortcuts
that are pinned to run as administrator.

  • Reader 10.1.3 keeps reinstalling when I click the icon to open it in my start menu

I have reader 10.1.3 installed on two different computers.  Opening PDFs in a browser window is no problem.  But when I cick the start menu icon to open reade 10.1.3 I get a message saying installing reader 10.1.3 after a while reader opens after which it will open ok on the start menu icon.  However, several days later when I try to open reader from the start menu icon I go through the same install process all over again, on both computers.

The fact that you cannot terminate the process from Task Manager is very strange!
It seems to indicate that Reader is waiting for some resource, and cannot even terminate without it.
If that would happen to me, I would try to observe the Reader process (AcroRd32.exe) using Process Monitor.  Hopefully that would give some clue what resource it is waiting for.
