    Hey terremo,
Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like the iMac is successfully turning on, however video is not displayed. These symptoms can usually be isolated further by the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • Inauspicious Start with Imac

I have been trying to help my parents with a brand new Imac (purchased today) and we have two issues
    1) Firewire and Ethernet connection between old Imac DV and new Imac doesn't work. I have done the standard recommendations to pull wires, but the connection still doesn't work. How do I check either machine to see if the firewire connection is operational, when I dont have any other firewire component? How do I turn off all extensions on the old mac, except for the firewire?
    2) 20 minutes after starting the Imac, we upgraded to Leopard. After upgrading IMovie fails to start and gives an error about some nsinternal inconsistency. What is wrong?

    1. What system are you running on the old iMac? It sounds like you are running OS9.
For OS9, Go to the Apple menu(upper left hand corner) and select Apple System Profiler. Under the list of hardware you should find Firewire but since I have not an OS9 system in front of me, I don't remember exactly where.
For OSX: Go to the Apple menu in the upper left hand corner, select About This Mac, and click on More Info...
    2. The problem has something to do with the upgrade. I have been seeing this problem a lot and it's best to go back and do an Archive and Install of Leopard rather than just an upgrade. When you select the drive to install to click on options and check the boxes that say Archive and Install, Preserve User and Network settings. However now that you have the problem you might still have to re-install the iLife apps from the 10.4 install disk.

  • I cannot start my iMac, what can I do?

I cannot start my iMac, what can I do?

    Start with the basics:
    • Check the fuse in the power lead by trying another rated fuse.
    • Double check that the power lead is fully pushed into it's recess in the back of the Mac; it should sit flush with the surround.
    • Check the power socket by plugging in something else like a hair dryer etc.
If all that checks out then you have a problem which you probably won't be able to resolve, especially if the iMac won't physically power-up.
I would suggest packing it up and taking it back to where you bought it from in that case.

I am using an Apple Magic Mouse and up to yesterday there was no problem.
This morning when I logged in, I got a note that my trackpad battery is low.
I tried to close that notice, failed. I tried open finder, fail. I could move my cursor but could not clik. I turned off.

i cant start my imac computer... im stuck at the apple logo?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Try resetting the SMC (you do not need a mouse or keyboard to accomplish that):

  • Everytime I start my iMac it opens several windows. I don´t know what to do to prevent this.

Everytime I start my iMac it opens several windows: Word, Excel, etc. I don´t know how to prevent this. I have to spend several minutes everytime closing 5 or 6 windows. I close everything before I sign out so I don´t know what to do. Please help.

In addition, OS X Lion includes a function referred to as Resume, where it will automatically re-open any app left running when the machine was shut down or restarted.
To prevent that from happening, you can uncheck the item in the shutdown or restart splash screen which refers to re-opening running apps. Unfortunately, this has to be done every time.
The alternative is to get in the habit of quitting all apps before shutting down or restarting.
Note that in the user's guide Apple suggests not shutting the machine down unless it will be unused for more than a few days. Not sure how many 'few' is in that context, but since I use mine every day I never shut it down (unless there's an electrcal storm in the area).

  • When i started my iMac it made a horn sound, i wondered what that was.

I had been on vacation for a couple of weeks and started the iMac.  It made a sound, i thought it was because i held the button to long, but it started ok, i was just wondering what the sound was all about?

That's a possibility.  However, do you now hear the horn blast every time you start from a cold boot?

Good that you can get to it through TB.  Use that connection to delete some files you no longer need so you will have room to boot the system and/or resintall the system.
You can also try booting in Safe Mode.  That sometimes willl clear up enough disk space so it willl boot and then you can delete some files from there.

  • Photoshop7 start problem

On my Windows Vista PC I run several Adobe programs: the CS3 suite, Illustrator9, Reader9, but also Photoshop7 and ImageReady7. Two days ago suddenly all Adobe programs refused to start, including the Reader . Apparently, there was a problem with the licences. I have downloaded the LicenceRecovery program from Adobe Support, and having run it, as expected, all programs did run again.......except for one: Photoshop7. Every time when I start the program, it begins loading all the necessary modules, but then a Windows error message appears, saying that the program stopped running, that there is a problem (?) and that I have to close the program.
I've tried several times to de-install and re-install Photoshop7 and ImageReady7 (they both came on the same disc). Every time Set-up congratulates me that I have succesfully installed the programs, while in fact the start problem persists. ImageReady starts, Photoshop does'nt. As Photoshop7 is now an oudated program, Adobe's helpdesk refuses me to help . I suspect that something in the Windows Registry has been corrupted (by LicenceRecovery?), but I have no idea where to look for. Has anyone encountered this problem before, and If so what was the solution?

    Google is your friend.

Photoshop 7 no longer works in Leopard OSX 10.5
Photoshop 7 was released in March 2002, it is now 10 years old.
Sorry for your problems, but you have only 2 possible solutions:
Roll back the OS to an earlier version
Upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop (to save some money you could just get Photoshop Elements instead)
You might want to download a trial version to Photoshop Elements to see if it does what you need before spending any money.
    Good Luck
