Start Sound Mac Mini

Hello,
i have a Mac Mini Late 2014 and use it for events. And i don't find a possibility to turn of the start sound. I have a MacBook and an iMac, and if they are Mute they don't give any start sound.
Now i have tried two 3rd party apps with no reaction and i put headphones in and something else, but the Mac Mini give that horrible noise.
Please Apple community, help me to turn off the noise!

  • Win7 install dvd won't start on mac mini

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my mid 2007 mac mini (running snow leopard) in a bootcamp partition. I created the bootcamp partition (32GB) using bootcamp assistant (no problem there) and inserted the installation dvd, but once the mini reboots to start the installer I just get a black screen (symptoms very similar to those with the late 2006 iMac).
I tried using both the 64 and 32bit version but no difference there.
The win7 install DVD (bought, not downloaded) seems ok as installation as a virtual machine using vmware works.
I'ld really much prefer running windows in a bootcamp partition than through virtualization, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If it won't start past the screen with the Apple logo in the center, there's something very badly wrong with your system. Try starting in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup, starting when you hear the startup chime and letting go when you see the Apple logo). If it starts up fine then (keeping in mind it will take longer than normal to start up in this mode, so be patient), but the problem returns when you reboot normally, you have some incompatible third-party software installed. What that might be is hard to say.
If safe mode doesn't work either, your system is probably badly corrupt. Try reinstalling. Hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode. Once you do that, go to Disk Utility and repair the hard drive. If problems are nonexistent or fixed, quit Disk Utility and then reinstall the system. (This will simply replace the existing system files, and should leave all your other stuff alone.) If problems cannot be fixed, report back for more instructions.

  • Starting up mac mini on hp w2207h

the screen of the monitor starts flikkering, when connecting to my new mac mini.
Just read some suggestions about setting the mac mini up to another screen.
I do not have another screen! this can't be true, this problem seems to exist for more than half a year and the only solution is buying a new screen!
The special reason for buying de mac mini is the budget reason, I don't want to buy a different screen.
can anyone help me out here?

Is it using the HFMI port? Lot's of problems with that, no idea if the EFI update works for 10.75...

  • Poor Bluetooth sound Mac mini

Hi all. I have just bought a Mac Mini and this is the first Mac I have had since switching from Windows based PC's. I need to use Skype for work but when I connect my bluetooth headset the sound quality both on input and output is very bad and cuts out regularly. I have seen various workarounds on here for older Mac operating systems but nothing for Lion OS and need some help! Any suggestions?

I am having a similar problem and would love some help. I have a Mac Mini and using a BT connection to a ZD5 from Creative. It sounds terrible and the Mac Mini is only about 10 feet away with clear line of sight. If I BT into the speaker with my iPhone or iPad, it sounds crystal clear and very nice. Any thoughts on the Mac Mini BT audio issue?

  • No HMDI Sound - Mac Mini + OSX10.10

I have a mid-2010 Mac Mini that I use as a media server.  I can not get HDMI sound out (video is no problem).  I have the Mac Mini connected to a Pioneer receiver then to a Phillips TV.  (When I connect direct to the TV, I can get stereo sound through HDMI - the Mini recognizes only 2 channel stereo).  When I connect to the receiver, HDMI recognizes its 5.1 (using MIDI Setup), but I can test get any test sounds.
Previously I was running Mavericks 10.9.2 and had no issues.  I know from some reading beyond 10.9.2 there were issues with HDMI sound.  Due to an OS crash and trip to the Genius Bar, I ended up with 10.9.5 reloaded on my Mini.  Knowing this did not work, I upgraded to 10.10 hoping Apple resolved the HDMI issue.
I have tried the SMC and PRAM resets - no help.
Does anyone in the community have a recommendation - or a way to roll back to 10.9.2?  I have no data on the Mini - its used to drive Plex.
    Thanks

I have a similar problem.  Upgraded my mid 2010 mini to 10.7.4 and now the mac mini outputs only two channels via HDMI cable to my receiver.  It worked fine before while running 10.7.3 and earlier. I really want to keep all sound and video going through the HDMI cable--it was a costly set up and I want to use it as it's supposed to work. (I don't want to use a separate audio cable to solve the problem and it sounds like it wouldn't solve it anyway).
My other devices work fine going through HDMI and my receiver--Apple TV, BluRay player and U-verse set-top-box.  It's just the mini and just since the OS upgrade.
How does one reset PRAM and SMC, and what are those, anyway?  Also, how does one fool with midi app settings?  I use the mini primarily to play itunes music and I didn't see anything called midi app settings in the itunes preferences.
    Thanks for any insights...

  • Apogee duet - no sound - mac mini server OSX 10.9

    Hi
all posts relating to my query are very old so I pray someone can help with an updated solution.
I purachsed an Apogee DUET FIREWIRE to work with ABLETON LIVE 9 on my MAC MINI 2011 i7 16gb runing OSX 10.9.5 (ok - so i can see alreday that I am not on YOSEMITE - but the APOGEE driver application states its for 10.9 and 10.10). It second hand
Dowloaded the nec software from Apogee site, plugged in, Duet recognisedstraight away....then NOTHING !
No output. changed system settings accordingly. NOTHING. when I click on the drop down in ABLETON it HANGS for ages. Then after its selected, the track doesnt play....
So It tried ITUNES. Same. after clicking play NOTHING happens - track status bar does not move. When I re-select the mac output (through my stereo / headphone socket) I can hear itunes / Ableton perfectly.
I am sensing this is a driver issue.? I wont lie to you - Im a NEWBIE to MACs. Converted this Xmas - but I seem to have picked up a well stocked MINI MAC - but is a there a school boy error here I am missing?
BTW - just to be safe Ive ordered a new 400-88 firewire cable just in case...as apogee came with a 800, 9 pin to 9pin cable, so I am using an adaptor (which again may be the probem - even though its high quality),...new cable will arrive tomorrow.
MANY THANKS - NICE TO FINALLY GET A MAC !!
    Jof

I think you're trying too hard...
I have zero tech or network expertise, but my Mac mini server intalled without a hitch on my home network of three other Mac desktops (Ethernet from AEBS), a MacBook, and a PC laptop, both via the AEBS wireless. The AEBS is connected to a cable modem.
I also have a static IP for my AEBS.
If you hook up your server, computers, and AEBS first and then reinstall Mac OSX Server, the server set-up will configure your network for you. You shouldn't have to set your own IPs at all...
I'm no genius at this stuff and I'm mostly playing around and experimenting, but we use file sharing, a common calendar, a family Wiki, centralized backup, and also run iTunes continuously to serve an Apple TV.
Let Apple do the work for you. See if the defaults work before tweaking it. It worked out of the box for me... Good luck.

  • Mac Mini and thunderbolt/vga to LCD TV

    Hi All,
    Here is an interesting one......
I have just taken delivery of 5 new Mac Minis which have the thunderbolt port on them.  The Mac Minis each connect using displayport tb/vga adapter to a switch then on to 5 LCD TVs.
    The HDMI/DVI is not used.
In this config, if I start a Mac Mini the display will not route through the Thunderbolt/vga adapter to any of the TVs (even though I have selected them on the switch). The display seems to want to go through the default HDMI port.
If I connect a standard PC monitor to the tb/vga adapter and reboot, the screen shows correctly on the monitor.  If I then change cables without a reboot, the LCD TVs show correctly!
I can add the PC monitor as a second monitor using HDMI/DVI and ensure that the outputs are mirrored AND that the VGA display is the primary.  However, on reboot it's as if the details are all forgotten!
Searching around it seems that there are issues with Mac Minis and VGA connections to LCD TVs.  That said, I wanted to put my environment out there and see if anyone had an ideas.
Interestingly enough, with older Mac Minis (without the tb/vga) it works perfectly well, indicating a problem with the new Mac Minis.
    Thanks for ANY ideas!!!!

    Hey Spost!
You have explained exactly what happened to me last night.  I was afraid it was part of the 10.8.3 update or the latest ATV software update that hit this week.   I tried from my macbook pro and the airplay from 10.8.3 and the atv software worked fine.
Previously my mac mini was connected to a monitor in my basement but last night i made it "headless" and moved it to my "server closet"  airplaying prior to the move worked great ... then last night 4:3 Green Screen.
My guess is the computer needs to be connected to a external display in order for airplay resolution to figure itself out.   Via Logmein i could see that the Mirror mode wanted to use the resolution that fit the mac and not what was best for the Apple TV ... Even forcing the change made the setting go right back to this mac.
Looks to be a bug in a plist file that apple would need to fix as many people run headless mac mini's and now wish to AirPlay to their Apple TV's without the need for a external cable run.

Will it work if I connect via usb instead of firewire?
No. There is no "USB Target Disk Mode".
Just so we're clear, when you start your Mac mini in FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM - holding T on startup), do you see a FireWire icon on the Mac mini's display? IIRC, it's not required that the Mac mini be connected to a display for TDM, but it would help diagnose whether or not the mini is actually starting in this mode.

  • Mac Mini Server freezes hard, too hot?

    Hi,
Our Mac Mini Server (half a year old) with the newest system crashes hard now and then.
It could run for up to three weeks occasionally but now in the summer it could sometimes only run for minutes until it hangs hard with frozen mouse and clock.
I have found no other way than resetting by the power switch.
According to the technical specification it should handle up to 35°C environment. (Right now we have 28°C in the room here.)
It seemed to help a bit by installing smcFanControl and increase the fan speed.
It will crash even without any work being done on it. No special applications started. No network traffic.
If the exhaust temp is above about 32 to 34° the problems seem to worsening. Now it is 37°C despite full fan speed (5500 rpm) and it crashed after minutes.
Sometimes it will even hang during the boot process.
Have anybody else heard about such problems?

    Hi MalcomKay,
I had to open a service ticket as Jiri suggested. The technician was pretty sure the crashes were caused by a defective Airport board and exchanged that (despite I doubted that and never used Airport for the server).
I came back home (2x2x120 km of travel) and started the Mac Mini Server up. I booted and run the AppleServerDiagnostics.app test from an USB. It lasted 15 minutes (until it was warmed up) and then crashed so hard it was not counted by the test. It just froze hard. It crashed  when running the memory test. It always crashed before finish when running that test!
I returned the server to the Apple Service (another 480 km of travel). This time they exchanged the whole motherboard. They tested it running intense traffic and operations for one full week without a freeze. So it was a faulty mother board!
Now it has been running like a charm for months.
This is not the first temperature problem affected board Apple has delivered to me.
    Good luck! /Johan
Tips: Prepare an USB stick you can boot from. It is so frustrating to have a computer without a dedicated DVD where you can boot from and run the hardware tests.

  • How to install MAVERICKS on Mac Mini 2014

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a Mac Mini (late 2014) and I tried to delete yosemite and do a clean install of Mavericks with a pen drive.
Unfortunately when I try to start my Mac mini from the Pen Drive with mavericks installer it gives me a white page with a ACCESS DENIED symbol in the very center.
Is there a particular way to install mavericks on the newest mac mini, I really need to do that cause I'm working with softwares that works only on mavericks for now.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alessione

Unfortunately, that is only allowed if Mavericks is already installed:
(iii) to install, use and run up to two (2) additional copies or instances of the Apple
Software within virtual operating system environments on each Mac Computer you own
or control that is already running the Apple Software, for purposes of: (a) software

  • After rebooting late 2012 Mac Mini a question mark appears on screen

    Hi guys,
After rebooting my late 2012 Mac mini model No A1347 I have a question mark inside a folder always when i try to start my Mac Mini. I understand that I need to reinstall Mac OS X, but I have tryed holding the command, option, R and P keys and nothing happens... I also think the wireless keyboard is maybe not sincronised with the computer, maybe?
I am clueless in how to proceed.
Offcourse, there is no DVD drivein the new mac minis so i can't just reinstall it from a CD.
    Please help!!!
    Thank you!!

You need to press either the Option key or the Command and R keys. If this doesn't work with the wireless keyboard, use a wired one.
If you can get it booted to a normal Mac OS X system, select that system in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • 2010 Mac mini server remote install OS X failure

I tested re-installing OS X remotely to my 2010 Mac mini server. It worked the first time. I got to the installation process, and abandoned it without actually doing anything.
But when I tried again, it failed, and I have not been able to get it to work ever since. I went to a local Apple shop and tested at its Genius bar. People there cannot figure out the problem. They exchanged my unit for a new one.
I took the new unit home, tried, and it failed again. Then I called Apple Care. They cannot pin-point the problem, but suspected that, since I failed with two units, the problem may be with the computer that has the DVD. I am not sure about his. Here I post my story for help. The details:
    1. The OS X Server installation DVD (which came with the mini) was put in a 13" 2009 Macbook Pro. There I ran the Remote Install OS X application. Selected the Installation DVD.
    2. Then I started the Mac mini server, holding the down Opt key. The Installation DVD appeared from my local network. However when I selected the DVD and clicked the arrow sign under it, things went wrong. A circle with a line segment appeared briefly (indicating a problem, I think). Then the mini simply went to boot from its own hard drive where the original OS X was.
Help and suggestions are very much appreciated.
    Additional information:
Remote Disc works fine. From my Mac mini, after booting into the original OS, I can see and open DVDs in the Macbook Pro.

Target disk mode method works fine. I can boot my mac mini from its installation DVD placed in my macbook pro, connected to the mini through firewire. So I don't think there is any hardware problem.
I played with a few other things. First I used another DVD, this time the one that came with my 2009 macbook pro, a non-server version OS X. When I tried to remote install it to my mini, the mini can still see the DVD but it hung after I chose to boot from it. It just showed a big circle with a line segment. It did not revert to boot the OS on its own hard drive.
Next I again ran remote install on macbook, but booted the mini to its own hard drive. From there
I changed its start up disk to Network Startup, and rebooted. The mini can find nothing on the local network.
