Start/Stop AS Instance & AS Control
Installed Oracle AS. Try to compare the following two actions (or routing):
1)From the Windows Start --> Programs -->Oracle AS Instance Name(OracleASIns) --> Start All (or Stop All)...
2)Now, from the Start --> Settings -->Control Panel --> Admin Tools--> Services, select the Oracleoracleas1ASControl, I can also Start or Stop it.
a> The action 1) above will start all processes such as the AS instance, the AS Control, and others; While the action 2) only starts the AS control. ----Is this understanding correct?
b> After I executed the Stop All via the action 1) above, I went to the Services via action 2), why could I still see the Oracleoracleas1ASControl in the started status? Souldn't it be shutdown already?
c> Is the Oracleoracleas1ASControl responsible for the running of the Application Server Control Console?
Thanks.
Scott
Actually I am still lost a bit. Please allow me to readdress the issue as follows:
1)What is the Oracleoracleas1ASControl used for? and
What is the Oracleoracleas1ProcessManager used for?
2)When I select start all or stop all from the Start/Programs, what are started, or what are stopped?
3)What is the difference between the starting of Oracleoracleas1ASControl and Oracleoracleas1ProcessManager (from the services panel) AND that from the Start-->Program-->ASHome -->Start All? --Same or separate consequence?
Thanks
Scott

Start/stop OAS 10g (9.0.4) instances remotely
Hi,
I want to find out if I can start/stop Mid-tier instance remotely.
For example, I have Mid-tier installed on RHEL 3.0 server and Infrastructure installed on AIX server.
I want to start/stop Midtier instance along with Infrastructure from AIX machine. Can any one suggest any script for this?
Thanks in advance!
GNI don't know if its possible in a single script.
What I'll do is connect over ssh to the servers and run some of the scripts available to start/shutdown the instances.
In [1] there are some useful scripts. (the scripts need to be IN the server, not your client)

Cannot start a server with start/stop (WLS 7.0 Linux)
Hi:
I have node manager running in a machine with RedHat Linux and WLS
7.0.1. In the Start/Stop tab of the Control tab of any server it
doesn't appear the Start Server option. Of course, administrator
server and node manager are running and I can obtain the node manager
status from the console.
Any ideas?
Cheers, MiguelI found the solution. Here it is:
Take backup of below registry key.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\MachineGuid This key should ideally have the GUID of the machine without curly braces, so {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} becomes xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
Then delete the braces.
Try to reboot and start the SQL service . If service don’t start then Uninstall and reinstall SQL.
The MachineGuid had curly braces so I removed them and rebooted my laptop. Now both instances of SQL Server start. It is the last post of this thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/56f14665-3f00-41ff-b002-bb5e86b3f219/sql-server-not-starting-fallback-certificate-initialization-failed?forum=sqlsecurity
He states that he got it from Microsoft but did not give the url.
Thanks for all your help.

Privileges to Start/Stop OAS
Anyone know the proper privileges to set to allow a Grid user to Start/Stop OAS instances. I've create a role that gives target privs to a group that contains all the OAS instances and given that role operator privs to that target group. I then set preferred credentials to the OAS user and Os password that OAS runs as on Linux. When attempting to stop and OC4J instance within OAS (home specifically), I get "You do not have the privileges perform this operation". I wanted to create a role that would only allow our developers to start/stop the development instances OAS, but there doesn't seem to be any docs on what privs are required for what actions. Thanks.
Seems to be a bug. If I assign the OAS targets with Operator privileges to a user, it works, but if I assign those same OAS targets to a group and I assign that group to a user with Operator privileges, it fails with the "you do not have the privileges perform this operation" error, even though the group contains the same targets. I've put in a TAR.

I there, my question is quite simple, I would like to know if the "apple remote control" can be used with a mac mini and , if so, it can be used to control also the "logic pro" functions (e.g. record, start, stop etc). Thks a lot, Danilo
Good work, thanks for the report.

How to Get Duration, Start/Stop Time of Each Instance (Run)
Can someone tell me how to get the Duration, as well as Execution Start/Stop times for a given run (Instance) of a Report, stored in History?
For example, on the BO Server in InfoView, I can browse the History of each report, and for each run, I can click the details and view the Duration and Start/Stop times for that run. How do I get that information in Java via the SDK?
Neither IProcessInfo nor ISchedulingInfo seems to have this information.
For example, ISchedulingInfo's Start/Stop Times are for general scheduling (when the report will stop being scheduled). That is not what I want.
I need specific data for a given completed Run, namely its duration and time endpoints. Thanks a lot.Hi,
fetch the instance of the run like this
IInfoObjects list = infoStore.query(
"select SI_STARTTIME , SI_ENDTIME From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where SI_ID=<instanceIDtoMeasure>"
IInfoObject element = list.get(0);
Date startTime = element.properties().getDate("SI_STARTTIME");
System.out.println("Beginn "+ startTime);
Date endTime = element.properties().getDate("SI_ENDTIME" );
System.out.println("End " + endTime);
long time = ((endTime.getTime() - startTime.getTime()) / 1000);
System.out..println("Runtime " + time + " sec");
You can get the nstanceIDtoMeasure form your Report with getInstances

Start/stop Grid Control services
What are the service associated with Grid Control and what are the commands to start/stop them?
Hi
To start the grid control you need to start the agent
and the web components in the oms home along with the agent.
# Start ALL
/oracle/product/10.1.0/oms/bin/emctl start agent
/oracle/product/10.1.0/oms/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
/oracle/product/10.1.0/agent/bin/emctl start agent
# Stop ALL
/oracle/product/10.1.0/agent/bin/emctl stop agent
/oracle/product/10.1.0/oms/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
/oracle/product/10.1.0/oms/bin/emctl stop agent

Foot Control to Start/Stop Recording??
Does anyone know if Garageband can be remotely controlled to start and stop recording? Isn't there some sort of midi foot control pedal that allows this? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear!
The iControl is a control surface that controls many things in GarageBand. However, I don't think it could be used for a remote control for punching in/out.
I agree. We need some kind of remote start/stop "peddle" type controller. I just ordered the PowerMate from Griffin. I don't need 50' of cabling, just about 5' or so. Should be perfect for me. I dunno about setting it on the floor and stomping on it though -

Listener ( lsnrctl ) - stop and start just one instance
Hey all. I hava a Oracle 9.2 installed over a Linux Red Hat 4.0 64 bits server.
Some Virtual Machines will connect in some databases installed in my Oracle server. My listener has one instance for each database like this:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM01)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM01)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM02)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM02)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM03)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM03)
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = VM01))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = VM02))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = VM03))
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1521))
And my tnsnames:
VM03 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = VM03)
VM02 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = VM02)
VM01 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = VM01)
I need to start and stop just one instance (VM01 or VM02 or VM03). I really can't stop all instances when I need to stop just one. And more if i have to create another instance i will have to stop the listener... and i can't because other people are using your instance...
Do you know how to help me?
ThanksssssssYou still use listener.ora, just create 3 listeners, one for each instance:
listener.ora:
LISTENER_VM01 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(HOST = lab2)(KEY = VM01))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1521))
SID_LIST_LISTENER_VM01 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM01)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM01)
LISTENER_VM02 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(HOST = lab2)(KEY = VM02))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1522))
SID_LIST_LISTENER_VM02 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM02)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM02)
LISTENER_VM03 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(HOST = lab2)(KEY = VM03))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab2)(PORT = 1523))
SID_LIST_LISTENER_VM03 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = VM03)
(ORACLE_HOME = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0)
(SID_NAME = VM03)
Then, when you need to stop the connections to only one instance, you stop the corresponding listener:
lsnrctl stop listener_vm02
lsnrctl start listener_vm02
For each instance you need to configure the parameter local_listener:
sys@VM01> alter system set local_listener=listener_vm01;
sys@VM02> alter system set local_listener=listener_vm02;
sys@VM03> alter system set local_listener=listener_vm03;
And register in tnsnames.ora:
listener_vm01=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=lab2)(PORT=1521)))
listener_vm02=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=lab2)(PORT=1522)))
listener_vm03=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=lab2)(PORT=1523)))
It's a recommended configuration for the flexibility it provides,it requires a different port for each listener, but you don't need to edit the listener.ora file each time you need to stop the connectivity to only one instance. -
Starting and Stopping an Instance
We are looking at setting up our CF10 server such that each application will be in its own instance, and allowing the developers access to their own instance. Is there any way to start and stop the instances from within the instance? We are hoping that there is some way to do this without logging into the cfusion administrator to manage the restarts of each instance. We are installed on Windows.
Thanks!
JennThe administrator could run the following code:
<cfscript>
instanceName="bkbk";
createObject("component", "CFIDE.adminapi.administrator").login("admin_password") ;
serverInstanceObject=createObject("component", "CFIDE.adminapi.serverinstance");
// start the instance of given name
serverInstanceObject.startInstance(instanceName);
// stop the instance of given name
// serverInstanceObject.startInstance(instanceName);
</cfscript>

Can an iPad mini operate/control via Bluetooth, a UE Mini boom speaker and an Irig Blueboard footswitch simultaneously please? I am hoping to use the Blueboard footswitch to start/stop guitar backing tracks on my iPad and hear them on the UE Mini boom. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this. Thanks
Thanks for confirming it should work man.
A quick check of the talktalk forum and it's my talktalk D-link 2780 router. It's a known problem.
It all works ok on next doors router so Off to PC World for a decent router.
Thanks again. -
Start/Stop control for itunes
I am in a band and I use itunes to playback my drum tracks. Anyone know of a switch (I'm visualizing a USB start/stop footswitch) which I could use to stop itunes playing? Thanks for your help. Brett
Oh, ya. I know all about that problem. Sorry it is not good news. You will probably need a new phone. Moisture has gotten into the button or the dock port and shorted the home button contacts. Replacing the button will not fix it since it is the contacts on the board that are shot. You can Google fixes for iPhone home button, for more details. There is a rough work around fix of adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the button and pressing it 15 times then blowing it out with compressed air. This helped a bit, but did not fix the problem.
Happened to me while I was running a bit of sweat must have gotten in. There and it started happening to me. -
Urgent: cannot start the shadow instance at phase STARTSAP_TRANS
We are upgrading to NW2004s (ABAP only) from 640.
<u><b>How to re-start the shadow instance?</b></u>
At this point, <b>anyway we cannot start the shadow instance.</b>
At SAPMMC, the disp+work
1) first show "running but the dialog queue standstill"
2) then show" running but not connected to the message server"
3) then the disp+work dies.
Above happens in 1 minute after re-start.

The PREPARE module Import will be started now.
During this module programs, structures, and table entries
required by PREPARE are imported (the socalled "tool import").
Note: This can cause a loss of performance in R/3
In rare cases, a concurrent transport via the transport directory
may disturb the tool import. Please avoid any concurrent import
during this PREPARE module.
