Thank you.

Batch / script file to start /stop sap server
Hi,
I would like to start/stop SAP server using batch file (in windows). I need this, whenever we have to shutdown the server and restart of the server, so that SAP will automatically shutdown and restart using batch files while server restart cases? If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks,
Regards,
Sundar.target of the 700 sapstartsrv improvement was to deliver identical functionality on all SAP platforms. As the DCOM programing model is only available on Windows platforms sapstartsrv.exe was enhanced by the WEB-Service interface and is available now on Unix too.
The DCOM SAPControl interface of sapstartsrv.exe is still existing, but only on Windows. Here you can use VB Script or any other programming language able to handle DCOM objects to write your own programs / scripts to interact with the SAPControl.
sapcontrol.exe is a command line program available since 700 which enables you control over nearly all functions of the sapstart service.
Even it has the same name as the DCOM interface it' something completly different.
regards
Peter

How to start & stop SAP J2EE services.
Hello,
Can anyone tell me the steps how to Start and Stop SAP J2EE operations and how to troubleshoot the problems when the Java doesn't come-up.
Regards,
MuraliHi,
In windows,
go to SAP management console,Right click on the SID and then <b>start all tasks</b>
similarly to stop,Right click,
<b>stop all tasks</b>
If it is linux machine,
switch to SIDadm user,by giving the command <b>su sidadm</b>
ex:if SID is J2E,then it will be <b>j2eadm</b>.and then it is <b>startsap</b> or <b>stopsap</b>.
For troubleshooting,
1.go to /usr/sap/SID/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/server0/log
look for <b>defaulttrace.trc file.</b>
you can get to know the errors here and find teh root cause of it.
2.you can also look for <b>devp_trace</b> in SAPmanagement console.
3.Before doing all this, first check if <b>JAVA_HOME,path</b> and <b>LD_LIBRARY_PATH</b> is set properly and proper JDK is taken.
4.check id <b>DB is up and running.</b>
reward points if helpful

Start/Stop SAP Hana on SAP Hana Studio - Authentication Method
Hi dear SAP Hana Colleagues !
For security reasons, the Security Team is disabling the password authentication of SAP OS Users (<sid>adm). The password will be setted up as "locked" in the /etc/passwd file, to block "intearactive logins".
As we know and as discribed in the section 2.2 of "SAP Hana Administrator's Guide", to stop/start SAP Hana Systems by SAP Hana Studio, we need to provide the "user/password" data to execute these actions, and this will not be possible if the password has remaining as "locked" in the OS.
Are there another way to authenticate the <sid>adm user from SAP Hana Studio to execute the stop/start of SAP Hana System ?
I'll wait your answers.

Scripts to start stop SAP HANA
Hi Everyone,
I need to call the script to stop and start sap hana via API. Does any one knows about any API that can be used to do this. I am aware of CLI but I need some API like REST API or XS which will help to do the os level triggering.
Thanks,

How to stop and start MDBs to listen for JMS messages
Hello! This might be more of an architecture question rather than a technical questing, but I post it here, in the lack of a better place...
For several years I have been using Webster and Webster MQ to send messages back and forth to clients. The architecture for the middleware platform has been designed around the functionality of ListenerPorts. Listenerports is a Webster functionality that let you "stop" and start to listen to JMS messages for a given MDB either by admin console, or by JMX.
The arhitecture we used was something like this :
1.Client sends a persistent message to a queue. (order)
2. An MDB pics up the order message, calls a SessionBean that "fronts" the IIOP back end system.
This is quite "out of the box" architecture, but we used the Listenerports to solve a stability problem for our back end system.
The backEnd system was quite unstable, so the EJB threw an exception (typically because of timeout or connection refused) back to the MDB.
The Listenerport was "defined" to handle 3 errors before stopping, so the MDB resent the message twice before the listenerport automatically stopped. The nice thing about this feature was that the client could continue to send orders, and was not bothered when the back end system was down.
When the backEnd system was up and running, we could start the listenerport and it was all back to normal state. We even had a start script that checked the state of the listenerport every 30 minute, and started it automatically if it was stopped, making the admin task of starting the MDB unnecessary..
Now.. Why am I telling this story..
I would like to know how this could be done using "clean" J2EE technologies..That is..Not using any technology that is not portable..
I`m playing with glassfish at home, and it struck me that there is nothing in the J2EE spec that defines the functionality described above ? Am i missing something ?
I Do not want to stop My application because the back end system is down? That is the only way (i know of) that i can "stop" to listen for messages..
I can put all the messages on an error queue when the backbend system is down, but that would lead to more code just to handle the error messages. Maybe the easiest way to solve this is to "move" (programmatically) all messages from the error queue over to the "standard" queue every XX minute, but somehow that sounds "wrong"
Can anyone give me some advice to how this problem situation should be solved ? I`m interested in the solution both from an architectural perspective and from a more technical perspective..
Best regards
Hans-Jacob MelbyBreakpoints, whether normal or conditional, are just meant for debugging of your code. I had the sense from your question that the pausing you want to do is a part of normal operation of your code. I would NOT recommend using a breakpoint for that situation. It would bring up the block diagram showing the breakpoint when it occurs. A user besides the programmer would not know what to do in that case.
Yes, both the inner and outer loops would have shift registers.
Putting a case structure with a small while loop inside the "Pausing Case" is doable. It just depends on what you are doing or waiting for while the program operation is "paused". -

How to start/stop a MSCS clustered SAP system?
Hi!
I know the sequece is very important.
Could you give the step sequence and the method of each step?
I search SMP but found no clue.
Thanks a lot! Pints guaranteed.Hi Jennifer,
Please follow the below sequence :-
Eg: - System Landscape - MSCS - [Node A(CI) & Node B(DB)] and C as Application Server.
Stoping:-
1. MMC - C(Stop All Application Server)
2. NodeA - Cluster Administrator - move DB Group to NodeA
3. NodeB - MMC - Stop all SAP instances
4. NodeA - MMC - Stop all SAP Instances
5. Now You can safely do any maintenance work or shudown the MSCS cluser servers
Starting:-
1.NodeA - MMC - Start all SAP instances
2.NodeB - MMC - Start all SAP instances
3.NodeA - Cluster Administrator - move DB group to NodeB
4.The Application Server MMC Start all Apllication Server Instances.
Hope this will help you in regard to MSCS starting and stoping sequence.

Starting and stopping SAP in Unix
Hi,
Pls tell me the command to start and stop sap in Unix.
I dont want to start and stop the Database
Pls helpLog on in UNIX as a user with SAP administrator authorization (<sid>adm).
To start the central instance, call the shell script
startsap_<host>_<instance no> in the home directory
of the <sid>adm user. If there is only one instance for each application server, the
alias startsap points to the script startsap_<host>_<instance no>.
The script startsap first starts the saposcol process which collects statistical
data for the operating system that it provides to the SAP system.
The next step is a check to see if the database is running. If not, the script
startdb is called to start the database.
The final step starts all of the processes for the instance (message server,
dispatcher, work processes, and so on).
After the central instance is started, you can optionally start other instances.
The startsap script can be called with the following options:
DB: starts the database system
R3: starts the instances and associated processes for the instance
ALL: starts the database system and the instance (default setting, can be omitted)
To start the SAP system, the startsap script calls the sapstart process with
the start profile specified in the script in the variable START_FILES.
The stopsap script can be called with the following options:
DB: stops the database system with the help of the stopdb script
R3: stops the instances of the SAP system
ALL: stops the database system and the instance (default setting, can be
omitted)
The database can be stopped separately with database tools. -
