Start up disk and hard drive almost full i have tried clearing things but it is not working it says its full from (other)
Hi so I keep getting pop up messages saying that my start up disk is almost full. SO I go into my Macintosh and try to erase some things however it isnt freeing any space most of the storage has been filled up by the word (other). Not movies or music but (other) not too sure what it is? please help

Hey you all, I have recently updated me iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 and I checked my reminders built in app, and it seems like everything I had in there was lost. I have tried many things, but none seems to work. I can no longer add in any remainders.
Have you failed to regularly backup the device to iTunes or iCloud? If so, the data is gone.

I have no sound for games in my iPad. I have tried the reset but it does not work. The speakers work as I have sound for music and videos.

Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on General
3. Tap on Reset
4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

I have a mac pro which I recently made to share with my mac desktop. iphoto was updated on the mac pro from 8.2.1 and I can no longer open iphoto. I get an error message You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. The only option is for me to quit. I have tried to restore with no luck. I tried reinstalling using my Application CD. Help?????
when you opened the shared library with the newer version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11) you were given a warning that your library would be converted and could not be used by older versions - you clicked ok to go ahead - there is no updo available - either upgrade to iphoto '11 of the MBP or load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library on it - older versiopns of i{Photo can not read newer libraries

I bought an external hard drive for backups to use with Time Machine, but however when I try to connect it with the other windows laptop it doesn't work ? intact it doesn't work on any other device except my MAC ?
Do not worry about it.
Time Machine needs that your external drive is formatted in HFS+, or better known as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". This filesystem is used by Apple on Macs and Windows cannot read or write drives formatted with this filesystem, being this the reason why all your devices do not read the external drive except your Mac.
You can only use your external drive to make Time Machine drives. If you store anything different, you may damage the Time Machine structure, so it is better not to use it as a drive to store other data. Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.

I had files stored on a hard drive that were not on my Mac. I used the hard drive for my first Time Machine back up, but it was not enough hard drive space to finish. Now those stored files are gone. Is there any way I can recover them? No, they were not part of previous Time Machine backups, and I have checked both the hard drive the documents were lost on and the new one that I now use for backups. Any suggestions would be helpful, as the lost files are old pictures that are gone forever. :[ Thanks!
1. Yes, if both drives are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
2. Reformat the drives if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and remove the drive with the pictures from the list of items set to be excluded.

This has happened doing the latest software update. I think I accidentally deleted iTunes before doing the latest update in trying to make room on the phone when it came up with limited space.

I am looking to turn my iPad into a portable device to store and view multiple files transferred from my pc. I have tried some apps but it does not support multiple sub folder transfers. Any suggestions please?

Df not updating --filesystem says its full
Hi everyone. I have the strangest problem. du says my home directory contains less than 100M. df says its full (1GB). Even though df says its full, i can still create about 50M worth of files there. Then when i delete the files, df still says the filesystem is full. Any help would be very much appreciated. This is OEL5 and the last thing i did was install sqldeveloper.

One of the possibility is the file you removed for space was being used by some process/application.
Linux will allow you remove that without any warning.
After that, the file is invisible by "ls -l", or "du -h --max-depth=1"
but the space of that file won't be released until the last process who is using that file close it.
After that, you can see as you expect from "df -h"
since you've already rebooted ur machine, This is only one of the possibility. :)
