Start up issues after an update

I restarted my lenovo g400 yesterday and an update started to install. It kinda took a long time so I kept it plugged in an left it to finish. Now this morning it just won't switch on. There is orange lights flashing but thats it, nothing happens. How can I fix it?

Which update did you install?
Right-click where the start orb used to be or the left bottom corner, then open 'Control Panel', and choose 'Windows Updates'.
Then in the new window, choose 'View update history'.
Take a screenshot of the new window that appears and post it here. Might be useful to know which update you installed.

MBA 13" mid 2011 start up issue after software update

I found that my MBA 13" mid 2011 performs not normal start up. When I'm powering it on after shutdown(or reboot) it start booting with clockwise gear screen but holds on this step for a minute or so and performes power off/power on. After this auto power on it boots normal. So each time after shutdown or reboot it begin to start, reboot, normal start - a kind of second time booting. I performed CMD+R restoration and reinstalled my Lion. All worked fine afterwards unless I performed software update (iTunes update + Thunderbold update + Security update 2011-005). It made second time booting again.

They will fix the software for you. Your alternative is to reinstll Lion yourself. If that's your wish, then:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Start up issues after security update!!

G4 Tower - Mac OS X - 733mhz.. After a security update 2 days ago i can not get my computer to boot. It comes up to the gray apple screen and just sits there. I put the install dvd in and went to disk utilities, but the hard drive does not show up at all. I tried to boot the computer in target mode from my laptop. It goes into target mode, but the drive never shows up on the screen. I put disk warrior in the laptop and launched it, and it seen the drive as a firewire drive, but the only option was to rebuild. I have a lot of info on the drive, and am hoping that I do not have to go to that extreme. Please help...

I have always had good luck with DiskWarrior. I've had serious issues and DiskWarrior has always come thru .
Are you nervous because you have never used DW before, or are you afraid it will hose your system?
By your report, it kinda sounds as if your hard drive has either failed or on it's last leg.
I'm guessing you had issues with the drive before installing the update and you did not know it. Updates tend to point out problems in a big way sometimes.
I run repairs on my hard drive before installing any updates.
I don't remember, does Jaguar have S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk utility? If so, what does it say about your drive?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Date format Issue after HRSP Update

Hi,
We are faced with a strange issue after HRSP update was applied on our client system (upgraded from SAP-KE-30 to SAP-KE-36).
There is an outgoing interface which picks up all the the starters into the local government pension scheme and updates a B2A document. This is implemented via a z-program.
When we look at the out put after the interface has run for the vast majority of employees it shows their date of birth as 21.05.1968 when it should show it as 21051968. This only appears to have happen after the HRSP's have been applied.
No modifications have been made to the z-program. What could be the reason for this issue. has anyone faced such an issue post HRSP update?
Any pointers on how to further investigate and resolve the issue will be most helpful.

In this case we can try to reload the software on the BlackBerry Smartphone to make sure it is running the latest version and there are no issues with the OS on the device.

If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

Exchange 2010 - Issues after rollup update installation.
We are having issues since we installed SP3 Rollup updates 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Issue1 - People get an error messages constantly popping up when they access our webmail. The error messages are:
An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled. and
Your network connection is unavailable. Please reconnect and try again.
Issue2 - When I open the Exchange Management Shell I get the following error:
Failed to connect to an Exchange server in the current site. Enter the server FQDN where you want to connect.
Issue3 - We have been using third party software to filter spam email. It is installed on our Exchange server. Since the updates it has not been working and we have tons of spam coming through. I dont think that this issue is that important at the moment and
hope that it will be fixed after resolving issues 1 and 2.
We uninstalled all four rollup updates in hopes that everything would go back to normal but it hasnt. We still have the same issues.
Currently we are running Exchange 2010 SP3 on 2008R2 SP1.
Please help.

Hi,
Based on the description, you got the error below when you tried to accessed OWA after rollup update installation.
"An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled, and Your network connection is unavailable. Please reconnect and try again."
For this issue, I recommend you check the OWA virtual directory to see if "Redirect requests to this destination" is checked. If it is checked, please uncheck the option. Then please restart IIS service to check the result.
Open IIS Manager -> owa -> HTTP Redirect -> uncheck "Redirect requests to this destination:"

A similar problem to the other posters, my Sony Xperia Z won't start after a failed update attempt. Following the support suggestions on the Sony website (http://www.sonymobile.com/sg/support/faq/w8-walkman-phone/update-software/software-update-failed-ps101/) failed. Solutions posted on this forum thread (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/My-Sony-Xperia-Z-won-t-start-turn-on-after-failed-update-attempt/m-p/401787#M20133) have also failed. When I plug the phone into the wall charger, the LED comes on red, the SONY logo appears on my screen, followed by a message indicating that "The Software update failed. Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again.", and then the phone turns itself off. The cycle repeats itself with no indication that my phone's actually being charged. Since it is unable to charge, plugging the phone into my computer does not trigger the update process to start, so I can't "try again", as the message so helpfully suggests. The computer also does not recognise my phone as being connected despite following the PC Companion's instructions to 1) unplug the device, 2) remove and replace the battery (which I can't do, because the battery is built in), and 3) turn it back on (which, again, I can't do, because the phone won't charge in the first place), before 4) plugging it back into the computer. Enabling DRI and disabling DRI doesn't help. Updating to the latest wine 0.9.30-1 also didn't change anything.

Problem is solved. Had to delete the .wine folder. Lost all utorrent settings, but it works again now.

Elite Pro, CMSS-3D not working and other issues after driver update

DElite Pro, CMSS-3D not working and other issues after driver update <font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="4">Elite Pro CMSS-3D control (on I/O console)no longer controls CMSS-3D.
The only time it works is if the original drivers are installed from the installation CD.
ANY other drivers stop the control on the Elite Pro I/O console from having any effect on CMSS-3D.
Also at one time when I cotrolled volume, CMSS-3D(original drivers), EAX and Crystalizer from the Elite Pro I/O controls then I had on screen display of said control that was being moved(on I/O console).
Now regardless of what drivers are installed, there?are no longer any on screen indicators.
The indicators looked like the ones that show when using the remote controller.
Anyone have any ideas?

Start up problems after security update 2014-002

Hi, after this update sometimes my Mac does not start up like it should: the Dock is not appearing and the screen is flashing between fully grey and thenormal background. The only cure seems to be to restant a second or third time. Already resetten PRAM, used disk utility (no problems) and repaired permissions. Does anyone else has encountered this problem? Thanks

Wireless issues after kernel update

Hi,
after I updated my kernel yesterday, I've been having some issues with my wireless. I'm on a dell inspiron 1545, using kde and I use the broadcom-wl driver form the AUR.
Anyways. After I did a system update yesterday, it would refuse to load the wl module. So I recompiled the driver and that was fine. But still my laptop refuses to use its wireless card. At first I just couldn't connect to any wireless, now the networkmanager just claims that my WLAN Interface is unavailable.

I'm not that experienced with wireless, so I did what https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM43XX says and some other pages I found on google. 'iwconfig eth0 up' doesn't have any influence.
As I said, before the upgrade it worked fine and I also had configured it as it is described in the link above.
