Start up Issues with a G4  MDD  DP1250mhz

I left my Mac a moment, when I returned the monitor was a bunch of vertical lines, I forced a restart using power button, I get start up chime, power button lights up, red led on mother board lights up, cooling fan runs as does fan on video card (Nvidia G force 4), but there is no power to HDDs, CD/DVD, Video or USB (keyboard and mouse). Tried PMU reset, checked battery (ok), removed battery for 10mins nothing has made any difference, also tried different monitor.
Any ideas would be appeciated, I'm stumped!
Also machine powers down if you hold in power button, as it should.

Hi-
Welcome to Discussions!
Will the machine boot to Safe Mode (hold Option while starting)?
Will the machine boot to the OS X install disc (insert into drive, and hold C while starting)?

  • Having start-up issues with my 1st gen Macbook Pro

Hi everyone. I just started having start-up issues with my first generation Macbook Pro. It was working fine the other day when I last used it, but today I went to use it and it wont load up to my desktop...? It starts up (grey screen with the little swirly bar under the apple,) then it goes to a blue screen, then my background and dock appear, then (before any of my desktop files even show up,) it goes to a blue screen (that brightens up and then dims a little,) and it just keeps showing this with a little swirly progress symbol (shows when the screen is darker blue, then disappears when the screen is a brighter blue.) I've included a video that I took with my iPhone to show it situation. Any ideas as to what's wrong with it? Thanks in advance!

Safe Boot by restarting your computer while holding down the "shift" key.  Safe booting disables all nonessential processes, often times allowing you to start up when you would otherwise crash.
As of OS X 10.5.6 Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache location in the /var/db/dyld directory.  A corrupt cache here can cause the blue screen crash.  Once you restart normally, the cache will be recreated.  This should take care of the issue.

  • Start up Issues with Mountain Lion?

Having start up issues with Mountain Lion. Gray Screen and nothing happens.

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Hi All.  My iPad 4 just started having issues with the volume.  On either Bluetooth or the iPad Speaker, anything I'm watching or listening to drops the sound to just barely hearing it and then, about 2 seconds later, it comes back.

    Hi All,
I tried to search through the community, but with the sheer volume of posts, I didn't find anything that seemed like the same issue.
My iPad 4 just started having issues with the volume.  On either Bluetooth or the iPad Speaker, anything I'm watching or listening to drops the sound to just barely hearing it and then, about 2 seconds later, it comes back.
I haven't tried wired ear phones, but I am sure they'll be the same way.
It's very random, but consistent enough to happen several times per day.
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.
I have restarted it and also did a Hard Reboot and it didn't help.
    Thanks Again,
    Scott P.

Well there you go, when you advertise it just be sure to say that you can't even see the scratches at half brightness and see how it goes.
Of course you are saying you want $500 for one with many scratches on the screen, has been dropped, but the scratches aren't visible at half brightness, and has no warranty. Or I can buy a refurbished iPad 4 WiFi 32 GB directly from Apple with no scratches and a one year warranty for $499. http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD514LL/A/refurbished-ipad-with-retina-display -wi-fi-32gb-white-4th-generation
    Why would I buy yours?
I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a used model with your specs in perfect condition. But yours is far from perfect. I think your high point is $250 which is why I said 50%.

  • Recently started having issues with WiFi

    Hello everyone,
Recently I started having serious issues with Wifi. I fixed it kind of by turning off iTunes iCloud backup, but generally the signal is low. As an iOS 5 tester in the Apple Developer program, I tested it for months on my iPod without any problems. When I got my 4S, I never had a problem with it until just a few days ago.
A friend of mine said she was also having the same problem. She claimed she turned off iCloud backup as I did, turn off both WiFi on her Mac and on her phone and reboot both. I did this. Then I turned them back on. She also suggested I forget the network and re-enter the security key. That done, it connected and had a stronger signal. After a while though, it continues to drop peareoticly. I notice that it stay's connected a lot longer now. Another friend also suggested I turn off bluetooth, although that didn't really help much. What seems to fix it tempararly is iCloud backups have to go off.
The Mac is still working great. No stupid connection errors and or dropping. I'd be curious to see if I would be having this problem with my iPod Touch. Probably not.
Anyone find any deffinate solutions to this?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean "2.4 GHz WiFi reliability is a hit or miss"?
Warranty is over so no problem there.
I see a lot of 7260 cards, is there one in specific I need? Example:
    http://goo.gl/PKcRIU
    http://goo.gl/ooaUEw
N would actually be fine, don't really need AC, recently upgraded my router and don't feel compelled to change...the price difference is small, and I'm all for future-proofing, but, I just need the thing to WORK.
    Thanks again.

  • Start-up Issues with ENVY m4

My mom just tried to start up her laptop, but it didn't boot up. After unplugging it, switching the power strip on and off, and taking out the battery, it still won't start. Looking through the forum, there is apparently an issue with wireless printers and sleeping computers, but my mom's laptop is not on hibernate mode.
The power cord appears to be in perfect working order, and nothing else seems awry. She last used it two days ago.
    What possible solutions are there?

Good evening, two nights ago I was studying an online course in my hp envy 4-1150la until I ran out of battery so I close the lid to continue the next day but yesterday when I turn on the computer it began to restart over and over again. I tried with the options at the begining: restore, fixing the boot, even reseting the OS but all the times it says that could not complete the operation. And even now doesn't get to windows first window but only load the window in which say to get to the bios or try to boot from different device but when I choose an option it restarts. The only option that let me enter is diagnostics and every diagnostic I run it say the computers is ok What can a I do?

  • Anyone have a solution to the constant start up issues with a late 2009 I mac

Constant boot issues with a late 2009 I-mac seems like every single time I move, turn off, or look funny at this thing it comes up with a start up disk issue. I am getting extremely tired of this time waster.
My 10 year old G5 is still my go to machine for critical projects as I am never sure if I can rely on the newer model. I am an audio editor for broadcast/as well as an audio engineer in the music studio world.
I purchased the new mac because the last logic pro update would not run on my old machine.(nice marketing apple).
If anyone has had the same issue and possibly come up with a solution your knowledge and assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance

Do you have AppleCare? Sounds like it's time to get step-by-step help.

  • Start-up issues with slowness, blocked icons and disk 'whirr'

    Hi
Bought a MB Pro 13" standard model about six weeks ago. This morning, for the first time start-up was incredibly slow, I had the 'beachball' (no clock or data in the top right corner) and I could not select the icons on my Desktop. The Dock appeared after a while but then none of the programmes responded and the clock/battery data etc still did not appear.
It sounded like the hard disc was also trying 'to start' or something with a low whirr.
I´m new to Mac but have searched these forums and used the Disc Utility. The programme mentioned an Invalid Volume count and couldn't be repaired.
Any help or advice regarding what to do next? I'd like to avoid losing all my files, emails from Office '11 for example...
    Many thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It's also possible that your hard drive is failing. If so, you will need to replace it. If Apple replaces it under warranty, they will keep the old drive.
Try Disk Warrior and see if it fixes your problem. If it does, get an external drive and use Time Machine or Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a backup, so that you won't have to worry about losing data again. All hard drives will eventually fail--that is just a reality. Having your data on 2 or more hard drives greatly decreases the chance of losing everything.
    Good luck!

  • Start up issues with 2008 mac pro

    Hi Folks.
I'm having an issue when trying to start my Mac Pro dual 2.8,,,,,,,
has been working fine but today no cigar, starts to power up with apple and spinning, then goes dead.
    What's Up? anyone......
    Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "goes dead." But if it's just a startup issue then you might try this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Start up issue with clicks from hard drive

My Macbook Pro 17" with Maveric does not load beyond grey apple logo during start up and has intermittent clicks sounding from hard drive. I've tried the following to resolve:
    1. Removed and reinstalled the RAM modules followed by clearing the PRAM on restart... ineffective.
    2. Restarted holding the option key. This showed my 1 year old hard drive was still available. However, selecting it resulted in the same failure at the grey apple logo.
    3. My previous Snow Leopard Recovery disc also ineffective. The eject button does no eject the disc either.
    4. Target disk mode also fails.
    5. Remote Recovery start up (command R) hangs on spinning wheel.
    Please advise.

You may have to resort to using something such as DiskWarrior or Data Rescue 3 to try an repair the drive to the point where you can recover some of your files.
I assume that you have no backups?

  • DV Start/Stop issue with DVC Pro 50

Hey guys/ladies... I'm editing with Final Cut studio 2 (FCP 5) and i want to use the "DV Start/Stop Detect" feature. I'm capturing video with the DV50 NTSC 48KHz codec, however, when I try to use the DV Start/Stop Detect function, it gives me an error that reads "The clip you have selected does not reference a movie that can be analyzed". I've brought this video in via FireWire, and I see in the manual that it should work with DV, DVCPro, DVCPro 50, and DVCPro HD... The deck i'm using is the Panasonic AJ-SD93P (DVCPro 50), and the camera for aquisition is Panasonic AJ-SDX900P (DVCPro 50). What am I missing?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2x 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

Ah! the operative word here is "may"... it's bad information I believe. The camera has to have a time of day code function recorded in the signal or it won't work... and only the consumer/prosumer level cameras have this feature. If you can't superimpose the time of day and date over the picture in the recording mode (like consumer cameras do) this isn't going to work.
FCP reads this code and when it detects a break in time (every time you pause would be when this happens) it can place the markers. But if the feature isn't on the camera, FCP can't read it. I've never read nor seen this work on anything but DV 25 recordings... and then only if the camera has the time of day capability.

  • Start up issue with Tiger G3 Ibook

I'm running a 800mhz (I think... I know it's no more than that) G3 with the latest update to Tiger (as far as the hubby remembers...) and he had to force quit Firefox (latest update as well), and then restart the comp. During restart, the gray screen with the apple logo would appear, then the screen would go black (but still on) and nothing. He'd have a mouse...but that's it.
We do not have the start up disk for Tiger because we bought the comp off of ebay, and the seller didn't provide the tiger disk. We've had the comp for about 6 months or so with no problems at all; it's been awesome.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, Stephie. to Apple Discussions.
Try adjusting the angle of the display. Does that make the display come back for you?
If not, try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say? If it says "Verified," you should be in good shape, as far as the hard drive is concerned, at least.
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.
If this doesn't work, you are probably going to have to buy the retail version of Tiger in order to maintain the hard drive. Did the seller include the original system discs that came with the iBook when it was new?

  • Start-up issues with Satellite C870D-11X

    I have a Satellite C870D-11X running Windows 8.1.
The laptop was running progressively more slowly but now when I start it up it sticks on the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen. Eventually it moves to a blue screen saying your computer needs repairing "a required device cannot be accessed error code 0xc 0000185. I have tried a reset by pressing "0" at start up and I see the screen Hard drive recovery process and press enter for yes and I get the "Toshiba Leading innovation" screen with please wait. After the circular dots appear for a few moments then the screen goes blank.
Unfortunately I do not have a Recovery Disk to try that option. Am I looking at a hard drive failure? I can hear a feint clicking sound from the HD as though it is hunting for something.
If I buy a disk is it likely that I will be able to reinstall using this media?
    Many thanks for any suggestions.

At first I must say that you have made one mistake after you bought your notebook you didnt create recovery disc or so called recovery media with original Windows 8 version that you got with your machine.
I really don't understand why so many people make this mistake and don't make recovery image backup creation bootable recovery installation media.
Anyway, on this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there and, in my opinion, best thing you can do is to back-up all your important data and install original recovery image. After doing this you can test functionality with factory settings.
Few days ago I found interesting document about limited recovery options after Win8.1 update - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB4403L30001R01.htm
You should try to install original HDD recovery anyway. How to do this you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm or http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm (Win8/8.1).
Recovery media order can be your last step.
Clicking noise could be sign that HDD is not working well anymore. Is the warranty for your machine still valid?

Snice IOS 8 my iPad is difficult to start up.  It requires several pressings of the top button.  And even when the screen first delays, the " slide to open" does not until after several attempts.

Afraid start up is still rough.  Even more button pressing required to access.  Some apps still reluctant to open.  Either slow or simply won't open.
