    Hi to all,
I hope someone can help me. My phone crashed after updating it to IOS 8.3. I can't use it cause its stucked on the start up menu, the apple logo with black background. Even when I restart my phone, it is still stuck on the start up menu, the black background with apple logo in the middle.

    Slone,
I finally decided to turn this annoyance into an opportunity.  After a lot of experimenting I found that my iPad was just fine under 7.1 if I simply restored it as new.  I have a lot of time on my hands and I had 1424 apps on my iPad!  This is why every attempt to restore took so long.
I decided to restore as new, spend a day restoring the apps I really used.  Doing so gave me a quick iPad with only bout a quarter of the storage used.
Granted it was a pain in the arse, but I wrote it off as in the old days when you had to do this with windows 95 just to keep a stable system.
I DO have some data in a few files of the now unused backup but a quick google search finds a couple Mac programs out there that will allow you go extract audio recordings, app data files etc. from the backup.  I'll do that someday if I even miss the files I've probably forgotten that are there.
Anyway, there was nothing wrong with my hardware.  I think there were just some troublesome setup items that 7.1 didn't like.  Once set up as new, the ipad was fine.
    Good luck!

  • "HP" printer in start up menu

I recently bought a new computer (MacBookPro) and transferred all of the applications, etc. from my old computer to my new one. The problem with my old one was stemming from an HP Printer that wouldn't stop starting up in the start up menu. It isn't listed under the start up menu, but sometimes I still see it come up in the top left of my screen at start up. I am not having any of the problems I was having with the old computer, but I am concerned that I transferred the problem over to my new one. I also have the new operating system, which is what was recommended as a possible solution to my old computer's illness, so possibly the problem is NOT transferred and some part of the HP is still on my computer? Just wondering if this is something I should go into a genius with and have removed before it creates problems on the new one. Thanks so much for your time, Kiele

  • How do i delete the daemon on the start up menu

I just installed an Office 2011 update and now I cannot access any of the programs without deleting the daemon in the start up menu - anyone know what this means?

Daemons are often installed in one of these locations:
    /Library folder:
    LaunchAgents
    LaunchDaemons
    /Home/Library folder:
    LaunchAgents
If not in one of those locations then you will need to hunt for it:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    AppCleaner 2.0.6
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank 2.1
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller 1.15.1
    Spring Cleaning
Look for others at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • ThinkPad Twist - I can not start the bios or the start-up menu pressing Enter

    Think Pad Twist i7-3537U
No matter how fast or how many times I press the enter key when starting, I can not access the start-up menu.
Immediately after the white "ThinkPad - To interrupt normal start press Enter" letters appear for just a fraction of a second on the bottom left corner, there comes the windows blue logo, and windows starts.
    - The enter key is working fine (I can use it with any application)
    - I am completely shutting down the laptop, not sleeping or hibernating.
    - I have tried a "safe mode" start from msconfig -> same results.

Ok, I've been able to access the BIOS with the following procedure:
    http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-access-the-bios-on-a-windows-8-computer/
    Winkey+C > PC Settings > General > Advanced Startrup > Restart Now > > > UEFI Settings
But this is only a temporary solution. What will happen if I can not start Windows and I need to access the Startup for recovery purposes?, or to boot from a USB device?
I would like to have a solution to normally access the Startup Options pressing the Enter key.
    Thank You

  • Firefox does not show up in the start up menu after dowloading

Every time I download Firefox I look in the start up menu and I can't find any file of Firefox. I have to download it every time I want to use the internet.

I'm not sure why you don't have a "Mozilla Firefox" desktop shortcut after you download and install Firefox. You said that Firefox does not appear in the "startup" menu. You should be looking in the Start '''All Programs''' list for a Mozilla Firefox icon (you may need to scroll up or down). If you don't see it, open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox folder and then right-click on firefox.exe and choose either "Pin to Start Menu" or "Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut) if you want a Desktop shortcut and it's missing.

  • No system 9 in start up menu

Replaced defective logic board with a used dual 1.25G board (was a single). System 9 has disappeared from the start up menu. How do i get it back?

"Classic" is an OSX applications that emulates OS9 using an OS9 system folder somewhere on your hard drive. Be aware that some applications do not run well under Classic; I find some games lose half their frame rates under Classic compared to an OS boot. One of my CAD programs will not properly render 3D view under Classic emulation but will with an OS9 boot. Your mileage will vary.
The ability to boot into OS9 is controlled by hardware so, as already pointed out, if the replacement board was not from a 9-bootable machine, you're stuck with Classic emulation.
One thing to check, however: OS( will not boot if it's in a partition larger than around 195G. If your OS9 folder is in a larger partition, try moving it to a smaller one.

  • 40E220U LCD TV Start-Up Menu Every Power Up

I purchased a 40E220U LCD TV at Best Buy for the Thanksgiving deal.
Every time I turn on the TV I have to go through the initial start up menu.  (English/spanish, home/retail, cable/antenna, channel search)   It never saves this information.
Anyone know how I can avoid this?

If it does everytime you turn on the TV, I would suggest to reset the unit back to factory settings then after the reset procced to the process of initial setup. Once you have completed the process. Try to turn off the TV unplug the power cord then wait for like atleast 5secs before you will plug it back in and turn it on. If it does the same thing then it is a H/W related issue, specifically mainboard failure.

Some tiles are overlapping. This happend after I moved a set of tiles round by dragging the title bar around.

I neglected to mention I rearranged the tiles after posting this and everything looks fine now. Just wanted to report his and see if others have experienced this... ;o)

  • No start up menu via option key

    Greetings,
I'm trying to start up from an external drive but when I hold down the option key at start up, instead of getting a menu from which to chose the start up disk, I get three buttons I've never seen before. To the left is a circular arrow, in the center (slightly elevated) is a small square with a disk icon with the title of my disk underneath, then to the right is a button with an arrow pointed to the right of the screen. I'm only allowed to select the right arrow and then the computer starts up from my drive. Does anybody know what these icons are and why upon start up I'm not given the option to start from my external drive?

The arrow to the left refreshes the display of disks; the disks themselves are displayed in the center. Pushing the right arrow continues the startup process. The Startup Manager isn't seeing the system on the external drive because it isn't finding an usable system on it; there are many reasons why. Some of these are:
    1. It is an USB disk with Mac OS X installed. Mac OS X usually doesn't support the use of USB disks to boot the computer on PowerPC Macs; the only known exception is with the Tiger install DVD on a clamshell iBook.
    2. Your computer is an Aluminum PowerBook and Mac OS 9 is installed on the drive. Aluminum PowerBooks aren't capable of starting up from Mac OS 9.
    3. The system version on the drive is too old to start up your machine. Knowing exactly which computer you have is necessary to determine the minimum requirements for it.
    4. The system folder isn't blessed. In order to bless the folder properly, you will need to say whether the drive has Mac OS 9 or X installed on it. Some versions of Mac OS X will be seen by the Startup Manager even if they aren't blessed in the Finder.
    5. You tried to drag-copy a Mac OS X installation to the disk. This method causes invisible items and permissions to be lost; reinstalling Mac OS X is necessary in this case.

  • Remove items from start up menu

I installed smartboard program from external harddrive and it startups every time I turn on my computer.  I don't need it to start up everytime I open my computer, its annoying having to close it.  How do you remove it from the startup menu....so that it doesn't open everytime I open my computer?

Try System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items. Remove it from there. Other than that contact the vendor.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes   after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract—not at the end.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
