Start-up opens Programs

I have an iMac 24 with OS X Lion. During start-up multiple programs open up and clutter the desk top. How can I control this?

Also when you restart or shutdown you should be presented with this screen.
Unchecking the tick will prevent any app that was open when you shutdown/restart (other than startup items) launching.

This just happened here twice to. Was working in Photoshop CC on my Cintiq HD24 Touch when the cursor turned into a static beach ball. First time i ended up rebooting (really annoiying). Second time i opened Chrome to google this bug. Somewhere in the process of searching information my cursor changed back to an arrow???
Using Mavericks on a rMBP mid 2012, Photoshop CC and a Wacom Cintiq HD24 Touch. Did not experience this before working on the Cintiq.

How much free space do you have on the flash storage device? Go under the Apple menu to "About This Mac..." then "More Info..." and look at the storage tab. Post a screenshot of you Storage tab in a reply here (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4391).

Lion always opens programs by starting even when I uncheck it

Even in the System Preferences / General I uncheck the restore function. After a reboot the unchecked field becomes checked again.
I close mannualy all my open programs before rebooting the Mac but anyway al previous closed programs are starting again.
Who knows what to do?

So, I fixed it...but I'm not quite sure how. I compared, line by line, my about:config with the one on my houses main computer...only did about two screen's worth, but I changed some values to match the other computer and the problems gone!

I did not download any upgrades or anything else, and I have Norton 360 version 3. I can open Internet Explorer, but that's not my default browser, so I have no problem with the Internet connection.

What html code will start an EXE (program) with a click on a webpage link?

The code in bold below worked. After I switched my browser from IE 11 to Firefox to get the hover on hotspots to work, the program gave me this error message. I moved the EXE file to my local file folder and tried it as shown below. Still no success. Any suggestions?

It allows executables in Firefox to be run - it is an extenstion, though, so it must be installed in Firefox before your page will work.

However, you will still have problems with getting it to work cross-browser. Honestly, browsers are not supposed to have access like that to the client side file system, which absolutely makes sense for the web.
That is why you may have to approach the solution from a different angle - perhaps create a server side cloud version of your application(s) which can be easily accessed and run by your family members. I believe you used C to develop the applications? Although I have no experience with this framework, Wt might be a solution to convert your projects to server side applications:

Before closing down the machine, how can I close all the open programs?

Now that the iMac automauically starts up with the programs in use when closing, I find that this is delaying my start.
There must be a shortcut to close all the open programs before closing the machine.
Kindly advise.

If by 'closing' the machine you mean shutting it down, there is a checkbox in the Shutdown confirmation window which is preset to re-start all apps at startup which were open when the machine was shut down. Uncheck that item in the Shutdown confirmation window.
Unfortunately you'll need to do that each time you shut the machine down.

Starting a java program on System boot/startup

Hi,
I am trying to find out how to start a java program on system startup which basically spawns a Thread which in turn does some processing.
Came across windows specific options which help one make it as a service.Making a .bat for windows and .sh for linux could be a option but not sure where to put these in respective OS or whether it is a good option.
If someone has tried out similar thing please let me know the details for the same.

and click on start-->programs--> startup(rigthclick and open)
then paste that file into that folder...
now you ll get that file opened whenever system boots.

When the browser is open the mouse does random things in all open programs, I can close FF and it works fine is there a mouse bug?

Since the last upgrade, when the browser is open the mouse randomly clicks on things changes windows by itself. In addition highlighting things to cut and past is almost impossible... this transfers over to all open programs word, movie maker, audacity, etc... and as soon as the browser is close the problems go away... I am having this on two computers the first is a 32 Bit Vista system with a corded mouse the second is a dual boot 64 bit Win 7 and Linux Mint laptop using a Logitech cordless mouse and built in mouse pad both mouse and pad does this... in both operating systems.
I thought it was a problem with the mice or interference with the wireless receiver or from an Xbox in the same room interfering with the systems, however updated drivers were downloaded and installed on both computers for all three operating systems.

Hi Giridhar,
I think its a cpic timeout occurring before reading tp could start. Please check the parameter gw/cpic_timeout in your system. The default may be 20 sec for this parameter.. You can consider it increasing to 60 sec.

HP Pavillion A5T37AV#ABA unable to open program.

My Adobe Illustrator application won't open. It starts to open, then shuts down. I've tried restarted the computer and reinstalling the software with no luck. This doesn't happen with my other Adobe programs.

Did you uninstall and then restart your machine before you tried to reinstall? Try to run a check disk on your hard drive (open computer, right click on the c drive, click on properties, click on tools, click on scan now and say yes to schedule a scan at startup).

Can LabView start/call another program such as QuickTime?

Hi,
I want to use my LabView program to start up another program. Is this possible? If so how is it done?
The program I have in mind is QuickTime. Will I be able to pass the name of the file I want it to play as an argument and specify where the new window will open?

You could also place an ActiveX-container in a vi. So you can select a file and set the window position.
Just have a look at the simple attachment.
