Start up problem - blink code?

Hello,
I'm new here so apologies if I have not found an already answered topic.
I have a HP dv7 Laptop (17.3'' 2009 model), and when fired up the screen is blank (not even lit), the num lock & caps lock flash simultaneously and continuously at an interval of approximately 3 seconds apart. I have been reading up on the 'hp blink codes', but as I interpret them, none of them apply to me...
My understanding is that there should be a number of blinks/beeps then they should stop, and, should you wish the laptop to repeat the code to push the power key...
Is there any sort of fault code for this, or even a resolve?
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Christopher-B,
Unfortunately, it sounds like it might be the 1 blink patter which indicates a processor failure. The 1 blink pattern is just as you described: Blink, pause, blink, pause, blink, pause and so on. You may have already come across this document about blink codes before, but it will give you more information about this issue.
Does your computer ever start up properly or do you get the blink code every time? If it happens every time, it could be that the processor just needs to be reseated. Most likely, it will need to be replaced.
Let me know if you have any questions!

  • Start up problem - failure code

    I have a DV6 notbook XD261EA#ABU.
Fails to start up and keeps entering repair. done a start up test and got failure ID:
    6C7B9L - 0005LU - XD0003G - 60RG03
Any idea what this is and what i can do?

    Hi,
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the results - particularly the result of the HDD test.

I am facing problem in starting ShellHWDetection service Error code 1075,please help

Shellhwdetection is a Windows service which stands for Shell Hardware Detection Service.
It provides notifications for AutoPlay hardware events.
System error code 1075 means "The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
Please run services.msc, then find Shell Hardware Detection Service, view its dependencies
Make sure the three services are set to running "automatic" in Services.
If this doesn't help, then run sfc to check if there're some missing or corrupted files in system.

  • Blink Code after System Update

    Hi,
after Updating my Z10 to the latest Software Release the device doesn´t boot any more.
After turning on the device, the LED just have a blink code 1101111 - nothing more!
I have already unplugged the accu.
    Any Ideas?

I'm having the same problem too...I've found that removing the battery to reset it has worked temporarily. Sometimes it takes 2 times to remove and replace the battery...or sometimes 15 times! I'm waiting for an OS update before I restart the phone again...hopefully my battery doesn't die during the day. I can't seem to find what the LED sequence means (1101111), I'm guessing it's a software glitch since it only started happening after the update to 10.3. I may try going back to 10.2 until a new update is available.

  • Portege R100 - Orange blink code

    Hi everybody,
I am Michael from Germany. I did use Toshiba laptops since the late 80th starting with my 1st computer, the Toshiba T1000 w/out a hdd...
I did repair a lot of them for myself, I always use 3-6 in my home parallel :o))) Especially the 34XX portege series, which are my fav ones with the tecra line, but anyway.
Now I have a new problem that I never had. I did buy some R100 to built me one fine. One mainboard the orange blinking error code: 00101100. I tried the common known things: w/ or w/out but nothing!
Does anyone knows which hexacode is hidden behind this blinking and which prob is hidden behind the right hexa, please?
google finds different answers and hexas like reading it from behind: 0011... and find 32h blabla but I want to ask you first, before I believe in this ;o))
    till later + best
    michael

Hi and thank you for your answers, both.
    - i tried the ram module exchange thing before i posted here.
    - i just ordered a new motherboard for it for a good price!
Akuma, did you mean the motherboard with PCB?
i removed the motherboard completely at the weekend and found some interesting things:
    1. there were little animals on it. small fleas that look like those in old books in librarys.
the actual board is from philippines, maybe they have a "houseflea" in the philli-factory or something. if it is that, it is uncool for a big brand like toshiba
    2. a bigger part of the board had signs of heavy corrodation on metal parts that i know from old guitars hardware, especially like old guitars that have had eir homes near salty oceans. AND i think this is the reason, why i have the blinking code

  • Start up problems, including from installation disc.

Hello everyone in the Apple ether, I need your help!
I have a powerpc based iMac G5 at home that I set up for my mum to use once I bought my macbook. I finally managed to win her over with talks of how much easier it would be for her to manage her photos in iPhoto, and everything was going really well. I recently came home after my final year at uni and some travelling to find that the computer is taking a long time to start up. This can be in both the grey apple loading screen but also once it logs in it can take a long time to display anything over than the desktop background, and even once it displays other items any attempt to open anything just results in a spinning wheel icon. At the worst case it has taken about 20 minutes to get going.
Once it has fully booted, the machine doesn't appear to be working any slower than normal. I tried using disk utility in mac OSX and verifying permissions etc and that didn't do anything. I then tried googling the problem and came across this article on the apple web site. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
Starting in Safe Mode did not resolve the issue so after backing everything up I tried starting from the installation disc. This is not something I have ever done before and as someone that never really delves beneath the surface of her machines I was a bit scared of doing it. But I put the disc in and restarted and held down C just after I heard the chime, and shortly after it all went wrong. The screen went grey and all I could see was the image you get when it crashes (you know, the power sign with text over it saying you need to restart) with lines of code all down the left of the screen. I took a photo of the screen on my camera so can give details of the code if you need them. The last line said
    Kernel version:
    Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.3: Wed Oct 18 22:00:38 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.15.4.obj-4/RELEASE_PPC
    panic: We are hanging here...
After a few minutes on this screen the fan started working overtime and after about 5 minutes of that I just turned it off using the power button on the back. The machine has since started up normally (ie slowly) but is working fine.
So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to fix the slow start up problem without booting from my install disc, or indeed if anyone could suggest why I can't boot from my install disc? Thanks very much for your time and help.

It appears you experienced a kernel panic which is hardware related. A few suggestions for you to try:
Except for the keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from the computer & try the suggestions mentioned in the following:

Boot up from your Tiger or Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose *"Disk Utility"* from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the *"repair disk"* button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and run *repair permissions* from Disk Utility.
    * If Disk Utility (from the install DVD or HD)is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

  • Photo Gallery start up problem

    I have a glitch and it's probably me … but here's what
    I know.
    About Don Booth's Photo Gallery:
It's great. Everything is good - integrated with my CSS -
    looks nice.
When the page loads all is well except the first image in the
Gallery does not display in <div id="mainImageOutline"... (and
the first thumbnail is not highlighted). While I'm building and
testing this is OK. Just click a thumbnail and everything works
    well.
In the demo, the Gallery is operational by default and starts
up with the first thumbnail and Spry:detail produces the
corresponding image (automatically). That's what I want.
    About my code:
Except for a couple of "page layout" divs that I have,
consistent with my own site-wide style sheet conventions, such as
    <div id="wrapper"> and <div id="maincontent"> I have:
    1. Copied Don Booth's xhtml code directly from the
    Spry_1_1_022408 download sample.
    2. Copied Don Booth's css code directly from the same
    download sample.
    3. Copied Don Booth's gallery.js directly (without change as
    far as I know).
The only significant change (apart from CSS and xhtml
structure) in my work is - I added an additional Spry:detail div to
present additional datapoints from xml. This is not relevant to my
question because the issue that concerns me is consistent if I
remove this second detail div. The start-up problem remains.
The URL for the gallery page in question is:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/gallery.htm
I imagine the problem is in gallery.js. You should know that
javascript is a bit like dungeons and dragons to me.
    I have an error report:
    Error: dsPhotos is not defined
    Source File:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/includes/gallery.js
    Line: 55
    So, when I see:
    var gAutoStartSlideShow;
    if (gAutoStartSlideShow == undefined)
    gAutoStartSlideShow = true;
I imagine I'm looking at something useful but I don't know
what to do with it, or if it is the right code to focus on. I
respect the relationship with level 4 support engineers, but after
trying to solve my own issue for a few weeks I decided it was time
to submit my question. How do I get Photo Gallery to start up like
    the demo?
    Additional information:
There is also a series of error reports that show when the
    Gallery is playing (for example):
Warning: Expected end of value for property but found
'-0.0775'. Error in parsing value for property 'opacity'.
    Declaration dropped.
    Source File:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/gallery.htm
    Line: 0
I don't think it is related, but that's what I know.
I tried to copy my xhtml (below) but it caused this message
to exceed allowed size. But I don't see that xhtml is the problem.
You can see the source at the URL (above).

    Hi Latauro,
Sounds like you need to turn your Slideshow into a Track, and then set the Track to display as 16:9 Letterbox; but first, you'll also need to encode your slides as wide Mpeg 2 clips (encode set to 16:9), too; to whatever duration you have them set in the Slideshow, currently (if they're not already wide encoded clips).
It would be good to stick some same duration audible or silent same format and bit rate audio underneath each of the new movie slides, to present players a nicely packed VOB.

  • Windows 7 Startup Problem - Error code 0x490

Hey, I recently successfully installed Windows 7 on my laptop that also has Windows Vista. I was playing around with it for a few hours last night, shut off the computer and went to bed. I woke up, started it successfully and played around with it some more. Then, I shut it off again, and, a few hours later, turned it back on and, when I click on Windows 7, I am now receiving an error message telling me I did not install properly and to run a Repair with the install disc.
I did this and it said it found a problem and to "restart immediately" by clicking finished (it does not restart immediately, I have to click finish and then click restart). It also states that if the problem wasn't solved it would run the repair automatically. I restart it, it boots up and does the same thing. I ran the repair again and checked the detailed list of errors. It lists off a bunch of successful tests completed and then at the bottom it says:
    "Boot manager generic failure 0x000000e
    Root cause found:
Boot manager failed to find OS Loader
    Repair action: File Repair
Result: Failed. Error Code = 0x490
    Time taken : 7099 ms
Repair Action: Boot configuration data store repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
    Time Taken: 171ms
    Repair action: System Restore
    Result: Completed Successfully..."
And that's it. I was getting the same error message when I had failed to install it correctly, but I fixed it (I think by resetting my BIOS). So, does anyone know how to fix this?
    UPDATE:
When I select windows 7, it gives me instructions (which I followed, they are the steps I mentioned above) and at the bottom it says:
"Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"
I assume this means that it cannot access my partition for some reason...? If so, why not? Thanks!

I've tried all these repair fixes and they went through and where done but it didn't repair the problem. I bought a 3TB USB 3.0 hard drive and backed up my system. Then the backup program formated the hard drive which I didn't want it to do that. It tried
doing a restore and came up with an error at about 55%. Some how I got it to install Windows 7 and did updates. I don't remember if I restarted it just yet. When I did do a restart it started the problem again. So I don't know if I ever got it working the
one time. I did install several programs and went to install one driver and think that may have caussed the problem because it was for NT and not Windows 7 64 bit. When I did get the right driver and installed it I noticed it changed how it looked on the device
manager. I don't know if the device driver I added was the cause of the problem, it was for an external hard drive using a eSATA board. There are bois on the board and that comes up when the computer is starting. I took everything I installed out of the compter
even took out the mSATA board out. The repair message says that it booted fine but something happened and gives the 0x490 error code. I've notice this seem to be a rather big problem. When I tried running check disk it couldn't run in the repair program. I
also tried runing Check NTFS and that gave me the same messaage, couldn't run the program in repair. There's a lot of  programs that won't run in repair. I've tried booting up to go to the DOS prompt but never got there and it went into repair. There's
a blue screen of death that goes by real fast. I used the start up menu when you press F8 to stop on errors and it stopped one time at the blue screen where I copied down the numbers. Many restarts and finally I got it to stop after the blue screen and it
was the same numbers as the first time. Not sure what to do with those four numbers. I'm wondering if they are from each CPU. What's real odd if I was able to boot up to several versions of Linux and the computer runs fine. It's just starting up in windows
7 is the problem. I haven't been able to run the boot menu program to see what it was doing. My computer has been down 180 days now but works fin in Linux. So I've been using the Linux OS program to search for help. I spend days reading the same fixes and
never find anything new to try. I used a Linux Boot Repair program and it didn't change anything. Well, going to boot up to the Boot Repair program and see if that makes a difference. That comes as an ISO file that's 600megs. The first boot repair program
was part of another OS disk.

  • G62 110SS light blinking codes ?

Same issue on my g62 - 149WM.  With all devices removed as well, i.e kbd, hd,ood, fan, memory,WLAN.

    Hi RonaldC,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I gather that you are getting a blinking code when you start your notebook. I am happy to help you with this, however it looks like this post may have been moved from another thread so I am not sure of the full context of it.
You mention having all these devices removed; several of those devices are needed for startup and would cause the error code by their absence, like the memory.
So what was the original issue that presumably caused you to disconnect all the devices?
What version is your OS?  Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
As a start, here is a link to the support page for your notebook and a document of the notebook startup error codes.

Depending on the number of flashes you are getting the document will point to the cause.

  • 15 - j118tx Blink Code - 2 blinks - Corrupt Bios

I have refered to the Blink code 2 error resolving methods and they have failed, Still repeating the blinks and not restarting.
The article said my computer  would probably not support the actions. Could someone please help me!

If you tried the Windows key + B  and the BIOS rom file at the root of a usb flashdrive methods with no success, then chances are that you will need to have it sent in for repair.

  • Blink codes

HP Notebook PC Pavilion tx2513cl, Windows Vista 32-bit.  Are there different blink codes for this product?  Notebook has one blink code, so I installed a certified used processor   (S1g2 for a processor - AMD Turion X2 (model# RM-70)), and still does not boot up.  Left notebook with KChelpdesk.com (location were I purchased processor) and they state it is the motherboard, however, one blink continues, which is "CPU not functional" and hp website shows 5 blinks is "General system board failure"  link to blink codes http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01732674&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3745852&tmp...

Correct, 1 LED code is Processor only. just need to focus on the How to identify teh codes.

also there is a possiblity of systemboard issue which is giving a false code.

  • What do the power light blinking codes mean on cinema display?

I have a cinema display on my G4, and about a year ago or so I had to replace a backlight due to a failure. Tonight I see that the power light is blinking again in a repeatable sequence, and I am wondering where I learn what the sequence is telling me about the nature of the problem?
Power output of the display is reduced again, and I am hoping I do not need yet another backlight repair.

The meaning of the blink codes is not stated in the manual, but in this knowledge base article:

  • Black screen at start- up with blinking Capslock and Numlock light.

    Hi,
My CQ61 Presario Notebook PC stays black at start-up with the Caps lock and Num lock lights blinking. I discovered the light blinking 3 times and then the system will power off and powers on after some seconds. I checked the memory and tried unseating them but gets no positive result.
Please, what should i do? I need help.

    Hello ezichisam,
I see that you are having issues turning the computer on, is that correct?
I was searching for information on the computer and I found this link. The link has troubleshooting steps for start up issues and explains what the blink codes mean that you are getting from the caps lock and num lock keys.
Follow the instructions in the document and let me know if they help.

  • Apple17 inch/power light always on/start up problem

My cat peed on my display. All worked well but now the power/sleep light on the display never goes off. Whenever I try to start up I get open firmware screen and have to type in Mac-boot and all works fine . But when I try to start up, everything blinks then I get the open firmware screen. When I disconnect the display from the tower the computer will turn on but when I plug in the display it will not turn on. Eventually I get everything going. I guess the question is since the display seems damaged will that cause this open firmware problem since the display light is always on? I feel so just wondering what everyone thinks. Did reset pram , no help.

    Thanks for your help.
Tried charging the battery last night, but no luck there.
Tried resetting the PMU and initially this worked. The mac started up fine.
Unfortunately it bombed out before I could copy any files across though.
It now doesn't even get to the start-up screen before bombing out.
You hear the chime (usually), but then the screen goes, if it turns on at all.
I've tried PRAM, and holding shift down, but it doesn't seem to get far enough for these to kick in.
I've had problems with the USB ports over the last few months.
I thought this was unrelated, but from what I can read it could be the motherboard playing up, and if so it would account for both of these things happening.
Thanks for your help though, I really appreciate it.
