Check your system Login/startup items in OS X System Preferences under the Accounts icon- Login items tab.
If you have more than 6 items trying to launch at startup, you need want to remove these apps from the automatic launch/startup list
Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.
If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right. -
My iMac Mid 2010 Has Suddenly Started To Slow Down.
Hello,
My iMac has suddenly started to slow down. It was fine just a week ago.. Login time has increased, Applications take a while to start and they can sometimes make my computer unresponsive.
Finder freezes and so does safari.
I have deleted ALOT of old files and things i don't use anymore. I deleted my Windows Partition. I have also tried my options in disk utility but it seems to have not no effect. I also re-installed Mavericks.
I don't know what else to try. Please let me know if there is anything i haven't tried.

Does anyone know the best way of fixing a slow running iMac without adding more memory?
Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? When did it start to be slow? Did you change anything just before it started? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup. -
Problem started after I unintentionally downloaded some adware 4 days ago. After lots of aggressive ads slowed down my browser I downloaded and ran AdwareMedic which seemed to do the job and browser was back to normal. Then, possibly a coincidence, everything on the computer started running slower. I've backed up everything and have run a EtreCheck report.
When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

thanksIfd you go to /Users does your home folder still exists? If so, then go into Accouns and make a new user account with your same name, and this is very important, same short name. When you do, you will get a message that a home folder already existsd and would you like to use it, say yes and then log out and your account should be there. If there is no home folder your only option is to restore from a backup.

I have used top of the line Dell XPS systems for the past 15 years. I have decided to jump ship and I ordered a loaded iMac. My question is there any advice you can give me in starting up my ne iMac for the first time. Also what are the main issues I will run into since my brain is a PC wired brain?

Absolutely! Whatever you do PLEASE do not install those on your computer they tend to create more problems than they ever solve.
In short there are NO virus's that affect OS X currently. I've been operating without any malware for 3 years despite not using any anti virus software.
If you choose to run Windoze on your Mac then the Windoze partition will be susceptible to Malware and virus's as is any Windoze computer. If somehow the Windoze partition becomes infected it will NOT affect the OS X partition at all.
Is MainMenu a good program for the iMac?
I don't use MainMenu, I've only used Spotlight to launch applications and locate files. You will find launching apps and locating just about anything on you Mac with Spotlight is very simple. It's the magnifying glass symbol in the upper right of the screen. It can also be launched by holding down the Command key and spacebar. For example if I want to start Safari I can click on the Safari icon in the Dock however what I like to do is hit Command-Spacebar then type Safari and Spotlight finds it and I'm running.
Here is a Wikipedia article that provides more insight into Spotlight.
NOTE: I just looked up what MainMenu is and see I was totally off target by describing Spotlight. However the answer is NO I don't see a need to use MainMenu. Macs very rarely need any maintenance by the user. Part of OS X is it runs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is usually done in the middle of the night and needs no user intervention. One utility I will use from time to time is called OnyX (Google it) which I find very good. BTW Apple recommends not shutting down your computer, in the owners manual it says to only shut it down if you are going to be away for a few days. In the preferences you can set the monitor and system to sleep after X amount of minutes that you specify. For example I have mine set to sleep after 15 minutes of non use.

Hello, I bought the MY BOOK LIVE by WD. I did setup, according to the instructions. I stored video files in Live Book. When I opened up video file, that I stored in the MY BOOK LIVE folder, it didn't play well. It started play slow an in a few seconds freezed. Why? How can I fix it?
I wanted to buy the external hard drive storage, instead they sold me a sever storage and it doesn't work well.

When I opened up video file, that I stored in the MY BOOK LIVE folder, it didn't play well. It started play slow an in a few seconds freezed. Why? How can I fix it?
I wanted to buy the external hard drive storage, instead they sold me a sever storage and it doesn't work well.
Should I return it? What shoud I get instead?

For some reason, pulseaudio is starting very slow on my system, even when it was a fresh install.
I was seeing very bad startup performance with several programs: firefox, hotot, etc. I did an strace on them and found they were stuck on waiting for a PID associated with pulse for about a half minute. When I turned off autospawn in the pulse config file, these programs loaded instantly, even if I put
pulseaudio --start
in my i3 config.
I'm not familiar enough to know how to debug this. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to get more information?

Not enough free space on the disk can slow the system down.
Click your Apple menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Try removing login items. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab. Remove all items.
And go to HD > Library > StartupItems. Remove all items from the StrartupItems folder.
Check the startup disk.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Be aware, OS X Recovery requires a high speed broadband connection.
And backup all your important files before repairing or restoring OS X just in case. -

It sounds like you would like to erase your MacBook Pro and install a new copy of OS X, but the Mac does not boot to OS X Recovery when you hold the Command + R keys during startup.
If your Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or earlier, I recommend referring to the steps in this article:

For a newer Mac (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite), try reinstalling OS X by using Internet Recovery, as described in the "OS X Internet Recovery" section on this page:

Lion... Seems to be slowing my iMac Down? Tips and Tricks?
Hey everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me
I installed lion as soon as it came out. I'm really impressed so far, loving the new features (except my inverted mouse, that had to be changed pretty sharpish). My only problem is, is that it seems to have slowed my iMac down. I have seen in some posts that spotlight needs to do alot of indexing, but I generally leave my computer on for long periods so it should have finished that by now should it?? I seem to struggle with safari, however im just in the process of re-downloading and installing again.
My iMac is a 24 inch, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. My macbook air doesnt seem to have any problems so any idea why I would be struggling on the iMac??
Any tips, tricks or advise would be much appreciated.

What is causing Google Chrome to start very slow?
So Google Chrome crashed for 2 times and now its starting extremely slow. I check console and these are the errors:

I've had my MacBook Pro for since 2011 and it has suddenly started running slow. This has been going on for a month. I've restarted my MacBook several times and even shut it down when I know I will not be using for the remainder of the day. I've tried numerous things to make it run faster including deleting useless files like text documents, pictures, videos, etc. I currently have 92.67GB free of 500GB . I've noticed that when it gets hot it starts running slow or when I play a video game and sometimes when I play videos online.

For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? When did it start to be slow? Did you change anything just before it started? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.
