Start up takes longer with yosemite

since i updated to yosemite why does it take longer to boot up my iMac

Although there may be other underlying reasons why your iMac is experiencing longer boot times, I found that the OS X 10.10.1 update did improve my boot times substantially.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 Start Up takes longer in MBP 13 2011 than in MBP 13 2010

    Hi,
I used to have a Macbook Pro 13, middle of 2010.
Now, I changed it for the i7 Macbook Pro 13, early 2011.
In both macs I've been using Windows 7 over bootcamp, and also, Parallels 6.
The problem that I have with the new one i7 2011, is that it takes a lot of time to boot in Windows. It even shows a black screen before booting windows for many seconds. The old one 13 from 2010, used to boot in Windows 7 without the black screen, so it was much more faster.
This problem does not happen when I start the windows bootcamp partition using Parallels 6 in Mac OS X 1.6.7.
In fact, since I have an SSD Drive, it boots faster the windows 7 bootcamp partition from parallels in MAC OSX, than booting window 7 bootcamp directly from the beginning.
I have Bootcamp 3.2, and Apple Software Update in Windows 7 does not show any missing new versions of bootcamp drivers.
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
    Luciano

OK, I think the solution is close to these ones:
It seems that bootcamp messes around with the windows 7 activation somehow... Even if the Windows 7 is a legal copy as mine is... And my copy of windows says "Activated" on my Control Panel -> System
    Anyway, here are the links...
    - http://viperfx07.blogspot.com/2010/01/tutorial-fixing-slow-booting-in-windows.ht ml  this last link It seems it uses a SLIC program to activate windows... Don;t understand it...
I still haven'ttested it.... And I think, since They deal with the Master Boot Record, it could break the bootcamp partition and make it not-bootable...
So, if someone of you guys don't mind to test it, I'll really thank you. (My bootcamp partition has lot of work-related files) and I don't want to mess around with it...

  • Processing takes long with ErrorLogFile in SSMS vs by Powershell

    Hi,
Actually whe have some connection problems while we make a processing on a cubebuild instance. I execute a XMLA Statement in SSMS for a partition and set these Error Configurations:
    KeyErrorLimit=10, KeyErrorLimitAction=StopLogging and a KeyErrorLogFile
Processing takes about 12 minutes. I see in Profiler that after about 3 minutes Processing is finished but the Application hangs for the next 9 minutes.
When I ignore all errors processing takes about 1:30 minutes.
I took a Powershell script from Vidas Matelis
http://www.ssas-info.com/analysis-services-scripts/1238-powershell-script-to-process-all-dimensions-and-cubes-in-one-db-limiting-workload and modified for my needs.
Processing tooks about 3 minutes with logging.
    Any suggestions why this happens?
Actually we use ASCMD for 2012 for our processing jobs. So if our further tests succeeds we will change to PS, but it would be interesting how this could happen.

  • Why does wifi takes longer with Lion than Snow Leopard?

My Macbook pro doesn't find my Airport nearly as quick with Lion as it did with Snow Leopard. Many times it will even jump over to another persons unlocked network even though my Airport is at the top of the preferred list of networks. It also shows a box saying that I am not connected even after I am connected, so then I have to click the box just to remove it. This is annoying as ****. Why is this happening? There weren't any similar problems when upgrading fron Leopard to Snow Leopard.

Is it just me or does starting itunes take longer these days?

Yes--it does take way more time than it did before to load! The program has to load a lot of stuff. I get nervous when I see the "loading the iTunes library" box with a cursor crawling slowly across the screen--I'm very concerned that something's going to crash. And then...????

    hi,
If you discover significant high frontend time, check whether the formatting is the reason. If so, either switch it off or reduce the result lines.
As formatting information is not transferred, the time consumed in the frontend can be reduced.
But the workbook you are executing may obviously take much time.

  • The Application Takes long time to Start

    Hello All,
    We ar eon Unix->64 Bit-> Essbase 11.1.1.3.
Problem Description : The application is taking long to start up. around 5 to 6 minutes. This is very first time it is happening.
There were no specific changes done to the application in the recent releases.
I have tried all options 1. Compacating outline, 2. Purging the application log etc. all other applications respond good on this host except this. Usually any application should not take more than 1 to 2 minutes to start up.
There are no specific errors or XCP files recorded in the logs and folders.
    Appreciate your suggestions
    MS

    Thanks Jitendra and Prabhas,
I know i have posted this thread sometime back and later I had to jump on a New release, so did not get time to check your inputs.
Well I am back on this issue again. I have been working on various option to get this issues solved " start of App takes long time"
Here are some Details. We are on SunOs 64 Bit, has 12CU with dual core,  with Essbase 11.1.1.3 running on it. This is an ASO application and has just 7 dimensions, Out of which the ORGANIZATION Dimension is pretty huge with Multiple Hierarchies enabled ( Both Stored and Dynamic ) and has more than 20,00,000 members including the alternate hierarchies ( Shared members)
I did a smoke test by building dimension by dimension the app was startiung up in just *40* seconds. and when i reached the ORG dimension and added more than 70,000 memebrs . there i fall sick. the app now gets back to its old issue ( Takes more than 10 mainutes to start).
    CPU Usage ranges between 3.1 % to 4 %
PID USER NLWP PRI NI VSZ RSS S STIME ELAPSED %CPU COMMAND
    4424 user1 1 59 20 1608 1032 S 18:13:33 00:00 0.0 grep COMMAND

But My question here is, in the last moth cube i still similar number of members in the cube and nothing really had changed.
Essbase GURU's Please give me some Hint to think out of box now.
    Thanks

  • Why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

Okay, so after doing all of the above, the computer still takes between 40 seconds and 1 minute or so to boot up, and the VersionCue messages still appear. However I discovered that the "kdcmond cannot retrieve..." messages disappeared after I disabled my ethernet connections. So at least I know that that had nothing to do with the extended boot-up time.
I have heard that the more RAM you have, the longer it takes to boot due to the RAM count. Since I have 10 GB, maybe this is why?
I've included the most recent Console messages below:

  • My mac pro 13 takes longer than normal to start?

My mac pro 13 takes longer than normal to start. What do I need to do to speed up the start up process?

with "normal" are you comparing it to other MacBooks? or to your model in the past?
installing a SSD would increase the boot up time a lot if you don't have one already...
also check what apps you have set to automatically open on startup because some/a lot will slow the startup down

  • Battery of new iPad3 updated with iOS6 takes longer to charge

My new iPad3 whose battery was alright when it was running on iOS5. But when I updated the OS to 6, it started taking much longer time to recharge. Is there any suggestion on this issue? Thanks in advance.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I just bought my macbook pro 2 weeks ago and have noticed that when I go to start it up, it takes longer to power up than when I first bought it. Does anyone know why this may be and of a fix for it?

Hi. It could be that the more you pile on the HD, the longer it will take to boot. When I first bought my MBP, it took maybe 30 seconds. But as I began putting more content on the HD, it seemed to take a bit longer to boot. You may also want to consider putting your MBP in sleep mode. That's what I do with mine and it doesn't hurt at all as far as I can tell.

  • When I need to open a folder on the desktop takes long time to open, so it is with the hard drive?, I'm using Maverick

The system boots without any problem, applications without a problem when I'm on the desktop and I need to open folders taking forever to open and for a moment I open and blocks other thing that the colored circle appears, use ten folders on the desktop where I'm keeping this information and take process and lock the desktop makes my job a little slow, and does anyone know anything about all of this as repairing system error?

Have then select one of the photos and type Command+i. In the Info window that comes up check to see which application is set as the default application. If it's iPhoto therein lies the problem. Regardless of what is set for the default select Preview and click on the Apply to All... button. See if that will fix the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Canon MP600 printer no longer working with Yosemite

I have an iMac, Mid 2011 with OS X Yosemite Version 1010.2 installed.  It has 4gb of memory and a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor.  Of my 1TB of storage I have 934.81 GB free.
Since returning from a recent holiday my Canon Pixma MP600 printer has not been recognised by my iMac and I am no longer able to print from it.  It did work with Yosemite before I left and I have been unable to restore the printer on the on the Printers and Scanners list.  I have tried to uninstall the printer software and go back a step to install it with OS Mavericks but having gone through that process once it did not work.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hi trev1124
I have tried a number of ways to reinstall my printer but it does not appear in the drop down menu under Printers and Scanners and no matter what I seem to do will it come up.  I am just about at my wits end with this.  Short of binning my current printer (which was working perfectly well by the way) and buying a new one I do not know what else to do.
If anyone has any other suggestions I would be most grateful.

revert back to Maverick that is what I had to finally do. This was the worst upgrade I have ever seen. Hopefully you have Time Machine backup and can revert back. It was pretty painless except for a few issues. I will wait until Apple gets their stuff together on this upgrade or may never will.
