Start up time (after shut down) on os x yosemite is too long.

it takes too long to boot up after shut down on os x yosemite.
It nearly takes up a minute.
On OS X Mavericks it took just 12 seconds!
how do i fix this?

If you have a Recovery HD partition you can try booting it:
Boot Using OPTION key:
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
Release the key when the boot manager appears.
Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
Click on the arrow button below the icon.
If this is not an available option, then download Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.1 which will clone the disk even though it's the startup volume.

    Hello James,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
From what you are describing, I have 2 recommendations. First, troubleshoot for 3rd party plugins that may be causing an issue after the interrupted update:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
If the issue persists after followign the article, I would next download iTunes from the download page, and install it.

  • Cannot start dual G5 after shutting down

I have not been able to find a solution in the discussions, so I thought to post.
My dual 2GHz G5 (late 2003) was wroking fine. Suddenly the screen froze and I no longer had mouse or keyboard access. I pressed the start button for 10 seconds to shut down. Have not been able to restart since. I have tried unplugging power and resetting PMU inside case. When I press the Start button, white lamp only while holding button, no chime, hear fans spin up, can feel/hear drives spin up, but nothing after that. I maintain disks and such regularly, so not a HD problem that I can tell. Running 10.4.10 with all recent patches and updates. G5 will not start from external FW HD either. Unable to run any diagnostics, as it will not start.
Have looked through topic like this posted by others and have not seen any solutions or that issues were resolved. Does anybody have any idea what the problem and fix for this is? Only outside suggestion I have heard is possible CPU failure. Have no idea what that would be like. Everything else was functioning until the screen froze and the keyboard/mouse went dead.
Any thoughts are much appreciated. I need to get this unit back online very soon. Thanks.

Let us know if you have good results after getting it fixed. I'll do the same since I told the shop to go ahead and fix it...
Facing the same conundrum myself, not wanting to have to unexpectedly shell out 3X more than the repair for the MacPro and then who knows how much to get the new MacPro up to my working specs when my current G5 is set up just how I like it and works well. I was faced with buying new video cards and adapters for my apple display to work with the MacPro etc etc...
I found a list of the flashing light codes on another forum for future reference...
1 Flash = No RAM (tested and verified)
2 Flash = Incompatible or Dead RAM (tested and verified)
3 Flash = Test Passed on Dead RAM (no)
4 Flash = No good Boot ROM (no)
5 Flash = Dead Processor (no)
I had 3 flashes followed by a pause... The shop could intermittently get my machine to boot just fine and pass the apple diagnostic tests, but then it would fail to re-boot at some point.
They said they tried swapping out ram chips only to get the same result, meaning that the ram chip bays on the board were shorting out in their opinion.
Really blows to have to pay almost what the same computer would cost to buy again on ebay, but since I'll never ebay another computer ever again (always have bad luck) my only other option is to fix it or buy a new machine and the cost was just at the threshold of where it becomes more sensable to buy a new machine. If the repair was over 1K I would have not even thought about fixing it.

  • Auto Start up after Shutting down

I'm new to the Mac and am not sure of this is a normal issue or if there's a setting that I accidentally triggered. On my MacBook Pro when I shut down, it starts up again after shutting down. I'm not selecting restart and am not sure if I updated software and held off on shutting down so I don't know if its that. Is there a setting I have to adjust or is there some issue I have?   Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Try resetting the PRAM. Force the machine to shutdown if it won't shutdown. While the machine is turned off with your leftt hand hold down the option+commands keys. Then turn the machine on and immediately with your right hand hold the P key with your little finger and the R key with your index finger. Wait until you hear the Apple chime twice, release all key and let the machine boot up. Also try starting in the safe mode. Make sure the machine is shutdown then power it on and hold down the shift key until you see the gray Apple screen then release the shift key. let it strat up in safe mode. Then login to your user account and try to shutdown the machine again. See if this helps.

  • HT4356 After shutting down my router and PC,  I can get my iPad to wirelessly connect to my HP 3050A printer.  After a period of time the connection is lost and I have to start all over shutting things down.  The PCM never looses connection with the print

After shutting down the router and connected PC, I can get my iPad to connect to air print to my HP 3050A printer.  Connection is lost after time and I have to start the whole process over again.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Thanks for the response Grant.  I had both set to "never" and the power connected.  I did however find while searching the forum page, an answer already given to another enquiry.  The security/general tab.  I had it checked, now unchecked am hoping it will solve my problem.  Thanks again, Cebustu.

  • Satellite E45t won't start for few hours after shut down

I have a brand new Satellite E45t-4100. After shutting down, I am not able to start the laptop for few hours. Upon pressing the power button, say after 15 minutes, power button LED lights up but nothing is displayed on the screen. I have disabled the sleep mode from power settings as I was facing the similar situation when trying to wake up the laptop from sleep. Although, when restart is chosen, laptop restarts without any trouble.
    Please help.

    Hello,
I have the exact same problem as the OP with an E45t-a4300. Purchased almost a year ago (Oct 30, 2013) from Best Buy. Worked perfectly for about 2 months after purchase and then this problem arose. Started when I'd put the computer to sleep, it wouldn't wake up. The computer would just shut off when I'd go to wake it up. When I'd hit the power button to restart, the fan would briefly spin, power indicator/wifi light turns on, then it shuts down again. I would repeat this cycle- sometimes only a few times, sometimes for almost an hour- before the Toshiba splash screen appeared with the "computer wasn't shut down properly"  and the computer would restart and run the standard diagonostics. However, at first on a cold start or start from hibernation it would start fine but after awhile that stopped, too, and any starting attempt was met by the same non-start/shut down cycle.
This went on for about 3 months with me basically rarely shutting down the machine. I searched forums at the time and found nothing regarding this problem. Then one day in mid-March, the start-up problem miraculously disappeard- it fired right up. It started perfectly fine and worked with no problems whatsoever for 6 months, including waking from sleep and hibernation, until about 2 weeks ago. Now the same problem is back- it won't turn on with multiple start attempts and shuts down when you try to wake from sleep or hibernation- showing the "computer wasn't shut down properly" on the splash screen and going through the test process when if finally does start. Also, I'm now unable to enter the BIOS page on start up when pressing F2.  I also have disabled rapid start, etc after the problem began.
I've owned quite a few laptops over the years (including Toshiba) and work with computer based systems for a living. I REALLY love this laptop a lot (yes, even with 8.1) but this problem is just disheartening. I truly appreciate any help.
    Thanks!!

  • Why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?

why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?

Can't really say, but I see this occurring on all of my Macs since the 10.8.2 update and keep reading about it at several other Mac user boards.
Bottom line: it's a general problem, but more of an inconvenience, than a serious problem. Probably will be solved with the next update.

  • Mac mini restarts on its own after shut-down.

The Mac mini will restart by itself about 10 minutes after shut down. I turned off all the restart options in energy saver. Funning 10.4.8 with the latest firmware instalation.
Any suggestions how to stop this?

I have had this problem for a looooong time and I think I finally resolved it. Last weekend I was trying a demo of MacPilot 3 and found Elgato's EyeTV had two items in the Power > Events list. Apparently when you set EyeTV to start up the computer for it's schedule it restarts the computer randomly rather in a reasonable amount of time before the recording begins. Since there were two files, I think 1 was left over from previous EyeTV version and was starting up the computer even though I told EyeTV not to start the computer at a later date. Deleting both files seems to be the solution.

  • Verizon app Verizon_MCCITrayApp_Window hangs every time I shut down Windows

Ever since I installed updated Verizon software on my PC an "Verizon_MCCITrayApp_Window program has stopped working" message displays every time I shut down. I uninstalled all Verizon programs but the Home Agent, which I'm hesitant to uninstall in case I need it for troubleshooting. At the same time I started receiving this shutdown error, I can no longer click on a link in my Thunderbird mail (verizon.net account) and open Firefox. Clicking a link in Thunderbird hangs the program and my whole system stops.
Both my Thunderbird and Firefox are at the latest version and I want to avoid re-installing either for fear of losing all my email or all my bookmarks.
Has anyone else had a problem with the last update of Verizon software?
    If so, what remedied it?
    Thank you.

It is a great troubleshooting tool. Please uninstall it off of your computer to see if thats the problem. After doing that, reinstall the program back on to see if you have the same problems.

  • After shut down screen light was on

after shut down my screen doesn't sleep

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computerwill not sleep if Internet Sharing is enabled.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
    and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
    Step 4
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 5
Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 6
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 7
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • Blue screen after shut down, service station won't work on reboot

A blue screen suddenly appeared on shut down yesterday, and my laptop immediately restarted after. On restart, a message popped up saying that Toshiba Service Station stopped working. • Every time I shut down my computer, I lose all my settings - like things I removed from the dock are all back, the trackpad resets to original settings, etc.  How can I get my preferences to stay like they used to?  Thx!!

I recently went through a nightmare with my computer where there was an "old" operating system put on my computer and I guess File Vault was turned on.  Since then I've upgraded and am now running 10.8.3 but got locked out of my old admin account when I tried to restore my computer from Time Capsule.  Attempts to recover anything from my old admin account have been futile
So, I started a new Admin acct and have been trying to reconstruct my life, but every time I shut down and restart my computer, it erases/resets all my prefernces, like all the things in the Dock that I remove all come back and the track pad is always moving in the wrong direction again and has to be reset every time.  Is there a way I make my prefernces stick??
BTW if anyone knows how to recover all my lost stuff that would be beyond amazing too
    Thanks in advance!

Eustace, thank you so much for writing back.  I will try what you suggested!!
thx for your reply - apparently when I went to the Apple store a long time ago, they restore maybe photos and itunes etc from my external hard drive (passport).  I guess at that time they reinstalled an earlier operating system than my macbook came with and that somehow corrupted FileVault.  apparently there was no sparse bundle (whatever that is) for my old admin account and they said that ever since the install of the older OS that it was actually NEVER backing up anything in my admin account.
Then, I bought Time Capsule and starting backing up to that instead.  I started having problems with it being slow etc and then StartUp Disk full errors and didn't know what to do, so I "Restored" from Time Capsule and that's when I lost everything in my Admin account and was locked out when I tried to log in - it said File Vault error ..."
anyway - that's THAT sad story.  I was told to create a new admin account and I've basically been trying to start over - even though I have a partial save of my computer in Crash Plan and I DO see a sparse bundle listed in there, but I just don't know enough about computers to know if it's something I can get back or if I am just totally doomed.
I'm afraid to reinstall anything because if there is even a remote shot that the other files are still floating around in my computer, I feel like that chance will be shot forever.  I need to hire McGee from NCIS, I just KNOW he could get those files back for me!!!

  • Is it possible to continue downloading OS X Lion after shutting down the computer?

I am downloading the OS X Lion app on my MacBook Pro and is only at 180mb after an hour. I am downloading this app for free because I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. Is there a way I can continue the download even after shutting down the computer? Will I be charged the next time I try to re-download the app--as in, will the code for downloading the app for free expire?
    Thank you SO much!

I downloaded OS X Lion over the period of a day or so and what you have to do is pause the download (for a snow leopard user that should be in your dock) and then shut down your machine. When you boot it back up, you should be able to resume the download by clicking the OS X Lion logo and typing in your Apple ID info and the download should resume at the same spot where it was when you left it.
