Start up time for MBP 13.3inch

What is the normal start time for MBP 13.3inch? I just got mine 2 weeks ago and it takes about 40secs to enter my password. I wonder if that's normal?

If it's an MBP with a hard drive, that's not bad at all. It all depends on how much stuff you're loading at login time too.

How do I chnage the start/stop time for multiple songs not just one song at a time?

I don't think you can in iTunes.
Multiple editing in Get Info does not offer an option to change start/stop times.

  • Reduce/Eliminate the start up time for a batch job

I'm looking for ideas on how I might be able to modify either my jobs, workflow or data flow in an effort to reduce the "start up" time that I'm encountering.
Currently I have a batch job we execute several hundred times a day. One of the parameters we pass to this job is a file path. The data flow reads a flat text file in this file path, processes the data through several transforms, and writes a flat text file back into the file path.
The actual processing time varies with the number of records being processed -- as one would expect.
However, even for the smallest - single record - input file the job takes between 40 and 50 seconds to complete. If I watch the trace file during this time it appears that 95% of this time is spent getting ready to run the job. The actual processing is almost instantaneous.
Is there anything that I can look at changing in order to improve the overall performance of these jobs?
I should mention that I am aware of setting up real time jobs, and how they would not require this "start up" time for each job submitted. However this jobs we process could between 1 to 1,000,000 records. Passing that many records in a single web service call does not seem reasonable. I would deal with issue on the submission side and then the potential timeout issue when waiting on the response -- which could also be quite large.

    Thanks Michael --
I must admit I'm a bit lost when it comes to the issue of codepages.
Is there any documentation you could refer me to with regard to setting the correct codepage for the data sources and targets?
Also, from the trace log I see the following statement:
Changed engine runtime locale <eng_us.cp1252> to <Unicode (UTF-16)> because data flow <DF_Suppression> contains a transform that requires processing with the Unicode (UTF-16) code page.
Other than the data source and data targets I do not see any option to set, or change, the codepage within any of transforms that I am using. (URAC, Name Cleanse, Query, Case, Match transforms are used)
Right now my source and targets are set to "default", which would seem to need to be changed. Where is the "default" set?
Sorry for so many questions about this.

  • Separate Start/Stop times for a single song file

I am trying to create some playlists for different moods e.g. calm, happy, upbeat etc.
Now, my problem is this. I have some songs that have more than one mood within them, and I would like to set different start/stop times for the one song file.
I would like to be able to set different start/stop times in each playlist and not affect the start/stop times for the file in the music library.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

The only way to do this is to make a duplicate copy of the song for your playlist and adjust the times for the duplicate.

  • Specific Start/End Times for Playlist Music?

I'm someone that dabbles in music production and i like to work with samples. I know that in iTunes you can set the Start Times and End Times of songs so that you may skip a rediculously long intro or just euthanize a song whose ending drags on for minutes at a time. (I'm looking at you, The Mars Volta.)
Anyway, when it comes to producing samples, sometimes when i listen to music i'll hear this one five-second piece that would make a great loop, and i write down the song name and the exact location of that interval. In iTunes, I attempted to create a "Samples" playlist with these songs in it, along with their Stop/Start Times sliced down exactly to that one sample. it's a great way to keep a log of what i plan to use in the future and keep good song ideas. Unfortunately, the Start/Stop Times set in iTunes are global, and affect the song no matter what Playlist is it on. Is this avoidable, or am i stuck? (Apple, please add this in your next iTunes release)
    -Dave

    Dave,
    You're stuck.
Unless you want to duplicate the song and then make your adjustments.
If it were me, I'd put the track I'm interested into GarageBand and cutting it down to just the bit I want and the send that version back to iTunes.

  • Manually specifying start/stop times for video

When we insert a video into a Keynote presentation, we can adjust the start/stop times of the video (inspector -> Quicktime icon). The problem here is that it's very difficult to accurately adjust the sliders due to the small slider. Is there a way to extend the slider so that it's longer, or simply a way to manually specify the start/stop times?

Unfortunately, there is not. Your best bet it to use Quicktime or iMovie to trim the movie down to just what you want to show and then you don't have to worry about setting it in Keynote. This will also save some file size as you don't have the video that you don't want to show taking up space in the Keynote file.

  • Slow start first time for domain user

When a domain user (Active Directory, Win2003) starts StarOffice 8 first time, it takes very often about 10 minutes until the program is started with a 10MB-network. Next time it takes only about 15-45 seconds on the same computer. I have noticed that is very high network traffic when the user starts the program first time from the server where the user folder "Application data" is saved. But the StarOffice8 folder in "Application data" has only the size of 2.8 MB (38 folders and 87 files).
Can I speed up the first start of StarOffice 8 for new users?
Is "copy files from another users Application data/StarOffice8" a solution?

Spotlight indexing may take  a while and slowdown the Mac.

  • Start Up time for Zen

When I don't use my Zen NX (30 GB) for around a day, next time I try to start it up it takes around 5 minutes while it "rebuilds library". This was not always the case, when I bought it first I did not have this problem.
Does anybody know if this can be rectified as the wait each time is highly annoying. I have updated firmware and run a disk clean-up already.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Sounds like the only option left is to try a format (obviously backup first).

  • Slow start up time for 600-1120

I have a HP 600-1120 with 8 gig memory. This thing still takes about 3 minutes to start from button "on", to Desk top screen. Is there anyway to increase the overall start up speed?

If your system is starting fro a Cold Boot, Complete Power Off, to the screen where you type in your password then IMHO that is VERY FAST. Normally with the stock 5400RPM spinning HDD Apple installs is around 40-45 seconds.
With a 7300RPM drive that can be somewheres around 30+/- seconds and with SSD in the area of 16-20 seconds.
Some report Cold Boot times from a SSD of around 10 seconds but that IMHO is impossible. I have timed the startup chime from the press of the power button at 2.5-3 seconds leaving only 7+/- seconds for the Complete OS to load and the logon screen to be displayed.
So if you are using the Stock drive, 5400 RPM model, your times are GREAT.

  • 20-30 minute start up time for computer

I started freeing up my hard drive space for memory a week ago and I ended up deleting the Admin account. I have two accounts, one which is mine that I use and the other is just the admin account that I never use. Now every time I turn on my computer it takes twenty to thirty minutes to get to the login screen. Also, when I put in the leopard installation dvd and try to run disk utility with it my main hard drive does not show up and I can't run disk permissions on it. My back up hard drive does show up and I know I am not running my computer off of my backup because I have unplugged it and turned it off to see if that was the case. Other than that my computer is perfectly fine, it's just a constant pain everyday to have to wait 20-30 minutes every time I want to get on my computer.

Next time you boot up, hold down ⌘V when you hear the startup bong. That will boot in verbose mode. See if any error messages are shown.

  • Long start-up time for Photo Editor in Adobe Elements 11

I am wondering why it takes so long for the Photo Editor, at the welcome screen (the introduction), takes very long; in comparison to Organizer? In fact, when I check Task Manager it has not yet responded. It takes close to 1 minute for the Photo Editor of Elements version 11 to start. I have an Acer V3 laptop computer operating on Windows 8.1; 8 GB main memory (RAM), 750 GB hard disk drive, A8 AMD processor. Thank you for your consideration, and any helpful advice.

    Slow Startup
If you are not on a network, and/or you are not using an Airport, make sure that only your internal modem network port is active, otherwise the OS will test the other ports (Ethernet, Airport, etc.) for activity on startup, particularly if any of the unused ports are set for DHCP.
Go to the Network pane in System Preferences and click on the 'Show' pop-up menu. Choose the 'Network Port Configurations' option. Make sure that the Internal Modem port is the only one selected. (Of course, if you have your Macintosh on a network, or if you are using an Airport, you will have to turn on the appropriate port for these.)
Another thing that can slow down startup times is having your Mac set to check a network time server if you don't have a broadband connection (DSL or cable modem) to the Internet. In System Preferences, go to the Date and Time pane, click on the Network Time Tab, and make sure you don't have Use Network Time Server checked. This causes a delay as your computer connects to the Internet and looks for a Network time server to sync with. (This will also keep your Mac from dialing up the Internet unexpectedly at odd times.)
Another thing to check is in Applications /Utilities/Directory Access. Click on the Services tab, and in the resulting window, if you're not using (or going to be using) the various services listed, be sure to uncheck them. (That is, in the Enable column, deselect the checkboxes for NetInfo, LDAPv2, and/or LDAPv3.) Having them checked could lead to delays in start up.

  • Typical start-up time for mac

What is the normal duration for macbook pro to start up? Mine is late 2011 model, and it took approximately less than 1 minute. Is it normal? Here is the specification :
    macbook pro late 2011
    RAM 4GB
    HDD 500GB with 5000rpm
    OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks

Give me a fixed set of conditions on which to base this guess of mine. I also need to know what a startup consists of from beginning to end so I know how to time it. I will also need a set of machine conditions - Mac model, CPU type and speed, type of GPU and VRAM, amount of installed RAM, etc.,  version of installed OS X, is the installation clean or an upgrade. If all of that matches my hardware, then I can give you my number as your "normal."

  • Settin start/finish times for a video in iTunes, video freezes for while.

This is a problem I had under iTunes 8 and Leopard, and it's exactly the same with iTunes 9 and Snow Leopard. (and was the same with iTunes 9 and just Leopard).
I often "cut" parts of video clips in iTunes, setting a start and finish time so I don't have to see the rest of the video, while not losing it either.
Most of the time, after I set those times, I want to check if my cuts are set right and go back to the video and look at it with the cuts... Well now I can't!
If I click on a video to watch it immediately, or even in the minutes after I made those changes, the video will open, but stay frozen and kinda skip on the same frame over and over (producing digital audio clipping sounds), and whatever I do, trying to FFW or anything, doesn't do anything.
If I open other videos, do other stuff and come back after 10min, it'll be OK, like nothing ever happened, and my new settings will be taken into account.
I can't believe that with a fast MBP, with a iTunes and OS upgrade, this problem continues!
Am I the only one with this bug?
Is this something that could be done?
    THanks.

I'm not sure about the error message, but it might just be easier to use an application such as Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip to create an iPod compatible version of the video.

  • Estimated time for MBP 2.8Ghz

    Hello
I`m looking forward to buying a new MBP with a 2.8Ghz and a different HD.
Do you guys know how long it will probably take to this MBP be ready to shipping after the order gets placed?
I`ll be in the US for 10 days next month, and I`m afraid it`ll take longer to get ready than the period of my stay.
    Thx in advance

Wherever you have it shipped to, there will need to be a signature. You might call Apple and ask them to have it delivered to a store close to where you will be staying. You could pick it up there.
