Started download of "Lost" TV series, not enough space

I just purchased the entire Season One of the "Lost" TV series. Twenty-Five one hour episodes I believe. Then I realized that my powerbook only has about 6 gigs of hard drive space left. I think these videos will exceed that.
Steve Jobs said that one TV show takes between 10-20 mins to download, so 25 should take a few hours.
I'm going to bed now. I don't know if I should cancel the download or what? If I do, can I start it over again somehow. I have an external hard drive that has enough space, but my iTunes folder isn't on that drive. If I let this download continue, in the morning my hard drive will be 100% full, and the 25 episodes will not have finished downloading. I'm sure 25 hours of TV will be more than 6 gigabytes.
Did I just waste $35 purchasing this TV series that can't finish downloading? Possibly screwing up my powerbook in the process by filling the hard drive 100% ? Any suggestions please?
Update: Episode One (Pilot Part 1) just finished downloading, and it was about 220 mb. Multiply that by 25 episodes (assuming the others are the same size) and the total for 25 episodes should be about 5.25 gigs. I had about 6.5 gigs of space when I started...so maybe I'll be ok. I'll just have to transfer all these TV shows to my new iPod Video I just ordered when it arrives I guess. I hope the download doesn't get interrupted. Anyone know what to do if that happens? Contact customer service I would assume?

Thanks, Colin.
I had enough room. The 25 one hour episodes came to 4.93 GB. It took all night though. When I woke up it was on episode #23 of 25. I think that had to do with my wireless connection. The progress bar looked like it had stopped moving, so I carried my laptop into the other room and put it right next to my airport base. Then the progress bar started moving, and the last 2 episodes downloaded in about 20 minutes.
I just got through copying all the episodes over to my external hard drive.
Thanks for the suggestion.

When I download an app I had to put in payment settings cause it was expiring, after that i paid and it was downloading but then said 'cannot download because your ipad does not enough space' but I actually have 3.3 gb while the game is 1.4 . I tried rebooting and powering off but still it didnt work even when I clicked the app( which still hasn't downloaded yet). What do I do now?

The GB size of the download file is the compressed size (like .zip or .dmg). When the file is installed/uncompressed it can be 2-3 times larger.
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • HT1390 i rented a movie on my ipad but I am unable to download it on my ipad not enough space.  So now I would like to watch the movie on my laptop .. but i don't know how to get the movie on my computer.. help?

I rented a movie last night on my ipad but I am unable to download it on my ipad I have no space.. so I want to watch it on my laptop computer but do not know how to get the rented movie on it.  I checked the itune store and they said I have it rented.. So I need help on what to do to download it on my computer so I can watch it any suggestions?  Thanks.

Because rented movies from the iTunes Store are normally a one-time download per rental, and if that download was to an iOS device, they can't be transferred to any other device.
Does that hold in the other sense as well? A rental on the computer is non-transferrable to the iGadget?

  • Supposedly there's not enough space

My iPod wont let me download apps because "there's not enough space" but there is

To download and install an app the iPod needs storage available equal to about three times the file download size.
If you sync from your iTunes library less storage available is required.
    Does the app/iPod meet this?

  • Time Machine-not enough space

I started getting messages that there was not enough space on the external hard disk I use for Time Machine. I tried to trash older files but I was having difficulty, so I used Disk Utility and erased the disk. I pressed back up and I now get a message "Preparing". I guess this will take awhile, but will be functional again?  I've used Time Machine for three years and never got the message "not enough space" before. Isn't it supposed to delete oldest backup to give space for the newest one? Is there a preference I need to check?
    Thanks,
    Stu

I'm having a similar problem. I have a Mac Pro running OSX Server 10.5.8.  The system disk is 1 GB and the Time Machine is 1 GB. Both are approximately 75% used and 25% available.
Yesterday, I got an error message that there wasn't enough space, and it appears as though it's not automatically deleting old backups.

I would guess that a TV series takes up a fair amount of storage capacity. It is just a standard message I think that may indicate that you are actually running low on storage space.
If you go to Settings>General>About how many GBs are specified as being available?  If you are low on space maybe deleting some apps may help.

  • I have 'not enough space' cursed Pages; even though I have plenty of room it refuses to let me download and install it.

Common problem, except all trouble shooting leads to the suicide of the question asker because it yields only claims that no matter what you say, you need to make MORE space. It's a 30 meg file, I have 500 meg free. I have deleted and redownloaded and rebooted about thirty times, in various combinations.
Previously I have cursed many apps this way, always free apps, so I just accepted they were 'dead' to my phone, even after iOS updates and ever since the iPhone 3 this problem has existed (ie: if you didn't have enough space when you START downloading the first time, kiss that app goodbye for life, it just WILL NOT download EVER.) and will either sit at 'Waiting' for a while then claim there's not enough space, or just sit at 'Waiting' indefinitely and progress no further.
The only thing I haven't tried is formatting the entire thing as a fresh phone and retrying, but that's pretty extreme. Has Apple acknowledged this bugs existance yet? Every support thread I see gets replies of "Make more space." no matter what the asker states and eventually the guy just stops coming back and asking, so they're all pretty much unresolved.
Just for the record, I have extensive experience with technology, and am not mentally disabled, so please feel free to talk to me at the level at which your inner voice talks to you, I assure you I will get it. So, can has halp plz? 8(
(PS: I cannot update to the lates iOS 7 as I do not have the insane size required for it to decompress and install, etc, and to do so would require deleting things I cannot lose or having to back it all up manually because there's no convenient way to do it otherwise. Although I can assure you that this problem has been present since the iPhone 3 first came out which was my first iPhone and has been present in every iOS update since, so I have no reason to believe out of the dozens of updates that iOS 7 has addressed this.)

When you don't have enough storage to perform an operation, then you don't have enough storage.  have you got the 16GB iphone?

  • Can't download itune movie, not enough space 6gig available?

Can anyone help, I have approx 6 gig of space available, but I cannot download a movie I purchased from iTunes, I get the message not enough space available, use settings to manage?

    Both are true.
Your have lost of iCloud space.
The problem is you need space on the iPhone.
    On the iPhone
Setting > General > Usage select Storage
See what is taking up space on the iPhone.
             Delete what you don't need.

trying to restore from iTunes back onto iPhone 5 - it starts but then error msg comes up saying there is not enough space on the iPhone to complete the restore - what do I do? - Help cos I've lost my contacts!!!!!

If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades.

Whatever you read about iTunes is wrong unless you're actually referring to feature movies, not videos. Videos, apps, music and iBooks you can re-download:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Download to your computer and then sync to your iPod touch whatever will fit.
And no, I can't say with certainty that they won't give you a refund, but it's unlikely. The most probable outcome, if you do indeed mean movies, not TV shows or other videos, is that they would set up an additional download. For other content they'll probably just direct you to the same instructions on re-downloading I just posted.

I realized that my laptop only has 2GB of memory. It's a MacBook Pro 13in bought in 2009. Is it true that I'm able to upgrade up to 8GB of memory. Seems like 4GB of space is a lot for a single program to be running.. A bummer I'll have to save up for more memory.

  • Error for 'not enough space' when downloading a video.  I can see that it's music but I'm deleting songs out of my itunes and it's not helping with the space.

I'm trying to download vide'os to my iPad but I'm getting an error that there is 'not enough space'.  When I look at my space, it's mostly music.  I've deleted out albums from my itunes but it has not freed up any space.  How do I delete these albums?

Music takes up very little space, movies use a lot of space.
    Settings, music
    Setting, usage
Both these area will give you info but if the movies are bigger then these areas allow, you may not have enough room even with removing all the music.
How big are these movies and how many?

  • Not enough space when download oracle

I am the beginner of Linux, and I am try to download Oracle 9i to /usr/oracle directory, but it says I don't have enough space to contain the files. I am confused because I have a partition with size of 8G for the /usr directory. How come I don't have engouh space for the oracle files, which are less than 2G. Anyone could help me?
    Thanks!!!

    Simply do
    #df
And you will see report about "filesystem disk usage"
To the right you will see "Mounted On" - that is the column with points which you should create before(with names), there you will find a point where you wont to copy information - "/usr", after check other columns. For example Available .... if there is not enough space better to reinstall system, or use disk druid. Better to do the first.
