Started MacBook Pro from old backup. Don't recall password.
When turning on my new MacBook Pro for the first time it asked if I wanted to boot from a backup. I had one from March 2013 so I used that, but now it seems to want the password I used then. And I don't remember it. Any way to add a new user from the login window?
I recommend visiting this discussion for how to reset your password: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23617156#23617156

Transfer iPhone backup to new macbook pro from old macbook pro
I bought a new macbook pro last week, but, I need to transfer my iTunes library (music, apps, podcast, photos, other) from my old macbook pro to my new macbook pro and the iPhone backup, off course, please, I have read entire hours on google but I can´t found anything, I don´t know what I can do
As roaming gnome noted, to copy iTunes , simply copy the entire iTunes folder.
Just backup your iPhone to the new computer (after you copy the iTunes folder). -
How do I restore the content of my MacBook Pro from my backup unit?
Hello,
I recently had to reinstall Mac OS 10.8.4 on my MacBookPro. I need now to recover all my programs from my backup unit, using Time Machine. I cannot access anything past the date I am starting this new backup on Time Machine of my newly reinstalled Mac, which is today.
What can I do?
Thanks for helping!

Boot macbook pro from imac backup
I am running OS 10.8.5 on iMac (9.1) and clone the startup drive. Is there any problem expected if I use this clone as startup for my MacbookPro? I have 4GB memory in the Laptop.
Thanks. Have found some apps that will not open and when I rebooted the iMac from the clone(with new mail and other documents that had accrued) I found I could not get APP STORE to open! Maybe some other problems with apps on two different computers using the clone between them. May have to sync everything thru a cloud rather than a portable drive?

Fixing an old macbook pro from 2009
Hi,
i just recently was given an 15" macbook pro from 2009. I am thinking about upgrading the hard drive for the following reasons.
1. It overheats a lot and the battery then drains in about 3 hours. I don't know why this is happening.
2. It is really slow. Like, it takes 5 min to open programs and booting up is a pain.
I don't know if its worth saving, I want to use a wacom cintiq with it soon and use adobe flash, illustrator, photoshop and after effects CS6. Should I just buy a new macbook pro? I don't know if I can. Everything else works fine. Just wondering if its worth saving.
Thanks,
RockwellYou should know that the problems you have described have nothing to do with the hard drive itself. The problem lies in either system software or third-party hardware or the motherboard. So before you spend money and time on a new hard drive I suggest you do the following:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
You do need to do the above as part of the following requirements: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac -
I restored a Macbook Pro from a Time Machine backup and now none of my passwords are working (and I know they are the correct passwords). What can I do?
First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why the password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. You can select one of the available layouts by choosing from the flag menu in the upper right corner, if it's showing, or cycle through them by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. See also this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password. In OS X 10.10 and later, this option also works with FileVault, but only if you enabled it when you activated FileVault. It's not retroactive. Otherwise, see below.
Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected. You won't be able to do this if FileVault is active.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but the Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as the login password), there's no way to recover it. -
I am trying to import songs to my new macbook pro from my old computer using home sharing. Both computers say that home sharing is now on but neither show up in each other's library menu. I am logged on with the same apple id for both computers. and both are on a stable wireless connection
Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.
Home sharing will then work -

Bernithanks for your help. You may right that Adobe Photoshop is not a tidy programm. But it is the only of my applications that make problems after using the MA. Anf for what the MA ist made for?
But i still have a question. Is this cc-cleaner as well working for Photoshop Elements 8.0? I tried the link but at the second step "Uninstall Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications" I do not find at the Application folder the Utitily folder.
Thanks

How did you migrate? Unless you cloned over a complete system you just made a bunch more trouble for yourself. You can never, never migrate PSE with the migration assistant. PSE is not a tidy package app in accordance with the apple developer guidelines. It strews stuff all over your hard drive and puts things in places the MA isn't programmed to look. Now you will have a lot of manual cleaning up to do. You must always reinstall PSE from scratch.
First download and run this:
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation -problems.html
Then you can manually remove the bits that got copied over. You can't use spotlight to help with this; it's programmed to ignore these kinds of files. In addition to what's in the applications folder, you will need to go to the library at the top level of your hard drive>Application Support>Adobe and remove anything in there, as well as your username>library>preferences. Then you can reinstall from your original media.

How to restore macbook pro from time capsule machine backup

I want to access my library on my macbook pro and copy work done away from home to Aperture on my imac how do I do this?
Are you working on images on both machines?
If you want to round-trip images, you can export a project as a library from your iMac, copy that to your MacBook Pro, and then edit the images there. When you're done, copy that library back to the iMac and import it to your iMac. The iMac should recognize the changes you've made and update its images.
Read the Aperture help file, which will guide you to the Aperture manual. It can walk you through this. You have to be careful to do it correctly, but I've done this a few times and it works quite well. -

Hi p,
If you mean software, go to the Apple menu and select Software Update.
If you mean the actual hardware GPU, that is soldered onto the logic board and is not upgradeable. -
Moving Acrobat X Pro from old MacBook Pro to new one, entry of serial number required, can't find it. What to do?
Hi,
You might need to deactivate Acrobat on your old MAC, then install it on your new system and then activate it with your serial number:
Please refer this link and get your serial number:

Upgraded to macbook pro from time machine and want new apps
Hey Gang,
I updated my old Macbook to a new 2011 Macbook Pro from a time machine backup. I have the app disc that came along with the computer and i'm wondering what's the easiest way to update all of my applications? Do i have to go through and delete my old versions and then install the new ones from the disc one by one?
Thanks.Since I don't know what you did, I can only assume that you have migrated things from your old computer that replaced new applications or system files that came pre-installed on the new one. Result: you have lost any new functionality as a result.
So, my suggestion is one you probably won't like. Erase the hard drive on the new computer then reinstall OS X and bundled software using the restore discs that came with your new computer.
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the OS X installation. When the installation is completed and you restart the computer you can check that everything is working properly. Then open the Optional Installs folder on the installation DVD and start the installer for installing pre-bundled software.
Once that has been completed you can then use Migration Assistant to tranfer your old Home folder and third-party applications. However, if you are not certain all your third-party applications are compatible, then I suggest you first update them on the old computer prior to migrating. -
Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!
