Starting a converstation with computer

I know how to say a command and have it talk back. (I say: "Your dumb." Computer: "No you are.")
But how can I start a conversation with it, like when you ask it to tell you a joke.
I'm making the commands with the script editor and doing say "<whatever>" and saving in the Speakable Item folder then removing the extension.

I'm having no luck with the speech recognition, it does not seem to respond to my voice even after training the mike which was very difficult. It seems pretty lame. I have other speech recognition programs that I have no problems with ... is there a way to improve accuracy? It will sometimes open Chess but will not respond to other commands ... tell a joke or anything! I'm using a high end Parrot talk pro headset. With the very good VR that comes with Vista that I have on boot camp , this is embarrassing!

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. I produced a film in iMovie and send it to iDVD to make a DVD with a theme. When everything was ready it starts at my mac-computer. But at the TV the theme always comes at the end of the film not at the beginning. What have I to change, what´s wrong?

A. Do not Use - Share to iDVD - in any iMovie version at all !
B. Start a BRAND NEW iDVD project
C. in iMovie'08 to 11 - Share to Media Browser and as LARGE - NOT HD or other resolution as quality will be even worse
- in iMovie HD6 - just close it and from within iDVD import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it)
- FinalCut - Export as QuickTime Movie - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - AT ALL !
D. When in iDVD - see to that in the Lay-out menu (when it looks like a box-plott) there ARE NOTHING in the upper left most box (Auto Start box). As this overruns any Menu.
E. Save as a DiskImage - TEST this first - befor burning any DVDs

When trying to install os x mavericks to my macbook pro as it started to install the computer now is stuck with the OS X Mavericks intall showing and I can't get out of it or force quit?

When trying to upgrade and install OS X Mmavericks to my Macbook Pro as it started to install the computer stopped the install and now is stuck with the OS X Mavericks intall window showing and I can't get out of it or force quit? I can not do anything else because this is stuck with this window/install screen showing. I have tried everything to get back to my regular desktop. I do not want to wipe the drive because I have photos on it that I want to save. So if there is any way to bypass this installer and get back to my regular desktop I would greatly appreciate the help.

Reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. How do I get my computer to start home page with firefox

Somehow I cannot start my homepage with firefox.I had been able to start and firefox would be there. Now I have to hit run on mozilla icon to bring up.How do I get back to being able to have firefox come up as my home page?

Colson-I'm confused. I am trying to get back to where I was before I had problems. I had att.net as homepage and was using firefox. Before,all I did was click start and enter my password and my homepage of att.net would appear. Now,I sign in with password and have to click on mozilla icon and start connection that way. What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go. And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too. FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

I figured it out. A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean. And it worked. I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked! And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.

If the lack of space on your phone is due to pictures, you may want to consider transferring some (or all) to a computer and deleting them from the phone. That is a good practice even if you have space on the phone. Instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

First, try to reset Firefox. [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
After all these steps, make sure you update to Firefox 14. [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

802.1x EAP-PEAPv0 (MSCHAPV2) with computer authentication

I am a network administrator at seven schools, and a few of these schools are now using 802.1x EAP-PEAPv0 (MSCHAPV2) with computer authentication only, for wireless security.
We are a mixture of 2008 and 2003 (Windows Domain) servers running IAS or NPS for RADIUS.
I push out the wireless client’s setting via group policy, and the clients are using WZC.
Every now and then, a client will be unable to authenticate/validate during the authentication phase.
Some clients this will never happen to and a few it will happen repeatedly.
To fix this I have to hard wire the computer and do a gpupdate, even though the computer already had the updates applied previously, and is still part of the domain.
Many of our classrooms lack network drops, so wireless is the best for us.
Except for this one downfall, it is working great. Any help is appreciated.

in detail ? Can you verify if there is any error or warring that relate with this authentication issue recorded in event log on client and radius server ?
Only certain computers are facing this issue or all?
What’s OS running on these client computers?
According the situation right now , I’d like to share some suggections with you:
1. An 802.1x client may fail to connect to an Radius server if the Trusted Root CA certificate that issued the Radius server certificate is not installed on
the client computer. Either verify that the trusted root authority is installed on the client computer or disable certificate validation on the client. To disable certificate validation, access the properties of the connection, and on the Authentication tab,
click Properties. Click to clear the Validate server certificate check box. EAP-TLS requires the installation of a computer certificate on each RADIUS server and a computer or user certificate, or smart card on all clients. PEAP-MS-CHAPv2 requires the installation
of a computer certificate on each RADIUS server and the root CA certificates of the issuing CAs of the RADIUS server certificate on each of the client computers.
2. Verify that Radius is configured for the logging of rejected authentication attempts to the event log. Try the connection again, and then check the system
event log for an IAS event for the failed connection attempt. Use the information in the log to determine the reason the connection attempt was either rejected or discarded. Logging options are configured on the General tab of the Radius server Properties
dialog.
3. Any rejected or discarded connection attempt recorded should identify the Connection Request Policy used. A RADIUS request message is processed only if the
settings of the incoming RADIUS request message match at least one of the connection request policies. Examine the conditions of the policy identified to see where the request fails.
4. Determine from the IAS system event log entries whether the authentication failure is for computer auth, user auth, or both. By default, Windows performs
an 802.1x authentication with computer credentials before displaying the Windows logon screen. Another authentication with user credentials is performed after the user has logged on, and if this fails the machine will be disconnected from the network. Similarly,
if computer authentication fails but user auth is successful, symptoms will include failure to process login scripts or apply group policies and machine password expiration will not be updated since the user will only be able to logon with cached credentials.
If you use a smart card for authentication, you can only perform user authentication because smart card usage requires manual entry of a personal identification number (PIN). There is no way to provide the PIN to unlock the smart card certificate during computer
authentication.
5. Examine the wireless trace logs captured and search for keywords error, failed, failure, or rejected. This should give an indication as to what point in the
authentication process the failure occurs.

Random computers running Windows XP have this problem. It does not happen to all of them at once.
It is very random. A computer that has been connecting to the secure network for weeks will all of a sudden not be able to connect. The message is “attempting to authenticate” and it never makes the connection.
I checked if logging is turned on and I can see successful events from computers that are working.
I can also see failed events from computers that are not ours that tried to connect to our wireless.
However for the computers that are having this problem there are no logged events.
It is as if they don’t even communicate with the server.
Other clients on the same AP are working fine. I rebooted the IAS service, and RADIUS clients, but this did not help.
I also checked all the settings and they are correct, using PEAP, and validating the server certificate is disabled.
I did notice that the firewall is also turned on through group policy when the domain is not available.
Do you think the firewall is blocking the communication?
I added an exception to port 1812 UDP and this did not make a difference.

If my printer is not connected to my computer, why does it start up when my computer starts up?

I disconnected my printer (a Brother inkjet) from my computer last night as it was continually starting up and running thru it's cleaning process each time as my computer woke up, even tho I had turned the printer off. This morning the printer is still not connected to the mac, but it started up when the computer did. And this happened with the previous printer, which was an HP. Is there a setting on the Mac that I can set to not wake up the printer each time I use the computer? There are days when my computer is on, goes to sleep, wakes up, etc, and the printer is not needed, so I'd rather just have the printer stay off.
Of course, the obvious solution would be to unplug the printer each time, but since that involves crawling around under the desk, it's not a preferable solution.
Any thoughts on this one?

Is the computer system software up to date?
What about the printer driver version?
If the printer is wireless capable, and has a
sleep or low-power mode, it may stand-by
or not really be 'off' so read a manual to see
what the printer can do, & be sure the OS X
is correct, along with maker's driver version.
The printer may be seen as a bonjour printer
or other, if it has an built-in antenna. I've not
heard of a printer causing a Mac to wakeup
in a manner of occurrence, as you've stated.
I've had dozens of Macs & several brands of
printers, w-fi capable or not. None ever did that.
If you have a PowerPC Mac running Tiger 10.4.9
or an Intel-based Mac, consider later software
and any later driver updates for the printer(s.)

Having start-up issues with my 1st gen Macbook Pro

Hi everyone. I just started having start-up issues with my first generation Macbook Pro. It was working fine the other day when I last used it, but today I went to use it and it wont load up to my desktop...? It starts up (grey screen with the little swirly bar under the apple,) then it goes to a blue screen, then my background and dock appear, then (before any of my desktop files even show up,) it goes to a blue screen (that brightens up and then dims a little,) and it just keeps showing this with a little swirly progress symbol (shows when the screen is darker blue, then disappears when the screen is a brighter blue.) I've included a video that I took with my iPhone to show it situation. Any ideas as to what's wrong with it? Thanks in advance!

Safe Boot by restarting your computer while holding down the "shift" key. Safe booting disables all nonessential processes, often times allowing you to start up when you would otherwise crash.
As of OS X 10.5.6 Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache location in the /var/db/dyld directory. A corrupt cache here can cause the blue screen crash. Once you restart normally, the cache will be recreated. This should take care of the issue.

Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.8 and anything else that needs to be updated.

Start up Issues with Mountain Lion?

Having start up issues with Mountain Lion. Gray Screen and nothing happens.

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports.
