Starting a Full System Recovery

I own an HP m8330f (Windows Vista) that will not boot.  I have recovered data that I need from the HD using third party software.  The Recovery Partition appears to be intact and I am prepared to do a full recovery.  However, the F11 key will not start the recovery program.  Is there another way to initialize the recovery process?  Perhaps a bootable CD image that will access the recovery program?
Thanks,
ScottG

No, I do not have recovery CDs.  I need a way to start the recovery process using the partition on the hard drive.  I realize that I can order recovery CDs but I would like to use the recovery data that I already own.

  • I completed a full system recovery. Still getting a configuration error. (code purple).

I have a completed a full system recovery using vista.  completely redid the hard drive with recovery disk.  When startup occurs, I get a message saying a configuration error.  contact HP.  (code purple).  Is this a hard drive issue?  Help where to go next.

***Windows 7 code purple or Windows Vista code purple***
With the code purple error on the screen, press shift+f10 (the shift key and the F10 key (at the top of the keyboard) at the same time) to open a little screen called a command prompt. (So, you get a little black screen with white text that says something about your Windows verison first and a little ways down you'll see "C:\>".   It's all ready for you to start typing.)
Type the following line, just as you see it here...
    notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd
so it will look like this
    C:\>notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd
    Press Enter.
You will see the text for the file listed in a window using a simple text editor.
Go to the beginning of the text. Press enter to make a space. Type this...
    goto cleanup
So, whatever comes after, the first line looks like this...
    goto cleanup
Save the file and exit notepad and restart your PC. You are good to go.

  • TM Full system recovery does not see my backup folder

Hello to you all Apple/Mac lovers ,
So, as the title mentions, I need to do a full system backup after an HD failure. No problem so far my last backup was 11 minutes before the problem happened. Now, I re-installed Leopard and followed the instructions to proceed to a full system recovery. But the recovery software does not detect my external hard-disk or does not see the backup in it ... what's wrong ? What information would you need to help me solve that ? Thanks in advance ,
    Charles

Are you doing this from within the Leopard installer or is this post installation? If the latter are you trying to migrate from your TM backup in Setup Assistant or are you simply trying to do a basic restore from your TM backup drive? If the latter be sure you change the Computer Name in Sharing preferences to match the one used before your reinstall.

    Hi @Jaytee2 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7.
Here is a document on performing a system recovery on Windows 7.
Do you have the System disks for this Notebook?
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.

  • How to access my I-Tune store after a full System Recovery reboot

Because of some issues with my PC, I had to reboot my computer to its orginal settings. How can I regain access to the songs I purchased with my account ?

So you made full System Reboot and didn't make a backup...
Do you have an iPod with those songs or something like that?
As you should know, every music you download will be stored on your HD. If something happens to your Hard Drive, all content will disappear! You can authorize up to 5 computer, to let them play your songs. However you made a reboot, so all your music are gone...
Now you have two options: Download them again or contact Apple and ask them for a re-download, but I'm not sure they will offer it.
    Good luck!

  • Lost all Outlook messages when I performed a full system recovery.

I performed a system recovery [set unit back to factory settings] on my HP Pavilion with Vista and unexpectedly lost all Outlook emails.  I thought I would retain all emails until I deleted them from my actual email account; such as Cox.net or Hotmail. Further, When I went to sign up again for Outlook, thinking I could somehow go to Outlook.com and find the deleted messages, I was forced to sign up for Windows Mail. Now I cannot sign in to Outlook.com. Any ideas? Or, have I simply lost all the old emails?

Your question is too intricated but I have tried to deduce the possible. Look at them one by one.
1.) Microsoft Outlook and Outlook.com are different types modes of email communication. If you are striving to access MS Outlook’s database which is somehow lost during factory settings of machine, then search the PST file which you was using prior to reset. If you find, then append it with your Outlook.
Note: Sometimes, data gets manipulated during such practices, so its better to repair Outlook PST file using scanpst.exe. Nevertheless, if you don’t not find any data (even if you may have detected PST file), then recovery of PST data using any third party utility (like: Outlook PST Repair Tool) is only possible way to get back data.
2.) I cant say as I do why you are not able to login into your Outlook.com. Maybe, you have changed its login details or something else due to which you are not able to figure out. Were you using 2-step verification for your Outlook.com. In particular, if you were using such kind feature, then reset your password and you would be successfully regain the accessability.
    Thanks & Regards
    Riya

  • I cannot do a full system recovery due to missing files and I don't have a recovery disc

At startup, I continue to get a message to activate windows. When I try to do this, I get message that some files are missing. The computer will not allow me to go back to the earliest system restore, nor will it allow me to do a full factory restore. I have been having problems since the time I did an online upgrade from Windows 8 to the 8.1 version. The original factory warranty expired on 02/04/15. I have contacted t, he Costco Consierge Service, HP and Microsoft to no avail. When I purchased the computer from Costco, neither the computer, not the box it came in had a Windows 8 activation code on them. Can someone please help?

Enter the BIOS and load the HP Factory default keys. That should take care of it. BTW, if you do end up having to pay for the factory prepared HP USB recovery media, it only costs about $25.00 USD.

  • Full System Recovery with Time Machine - Applications missing

    Hi,
My Macbook recently met a nasty end by a glass of wine and ended up completely dead.  Not to fear, I thought, it's all backed up on my Time Machine.  So I got hold of a Mac Mini and started to attempt to restore my system using Time Machine.  When I got the new mini, I ran my Leopard install disc, and followed the restore from Time Machine process.  The first problem was that the version of OSX on my deceased macbook was newer than the fresh install I was putting on the mini, so the TM restore couldn't work.  So, I continued the clean install, got OSX up and running and then ran the software update so that it was all up to speed (now running 10.5.8 - same as the macbook was).
Next onto Migration Assistant to restore from my Time Machine backups.  All hunky dory, except that Migration Assistant told me that there were 0.0kb in the profiles.  Once I'd peeled myself off the ceiling, I tried it anyway.  Everything transferred across OK - settings, files, profiles, but no applications.  Lots of money's worth of iLife, iWork, CS5, Office for Mac - missing.  Files, but no way of opening them!
I had a root round in the TM backup and they were all there, but nothing at all transferred across in the restore.
What have I missed here?  Should I drag and drop each application over from the TM folder to my new Applications folder?  Surely the risk here is that I'll miss some system files in Application Support etc.
I really need some help here.  Most of my applications don't have install discs as they were downloaded either from Apple/MS/Adobe etc.

Not a fan nor expert on TM, but anyway you ca pull the old drive out of the WineBook & use something like this...

    Hi,
Firstly I don't know how this is going to work on new machine because the Windows 8 lisence would NOT work at all.

  • Had to order recovery discs and can't do a full system recovery

My recovery file on my hard drive was erased so I had to order recovery discs. I followed all of the instructons of turning computer on, inserting the 1st dvd, holding the power button to shut off the computer, turning it back on, pressing etc to reach options. Chose f9. Chose to boot from dvd/cd rom. When I do that, my computer acts like it was shut off prematurely and no recovery menu.

One of several possibilities. Your CD/DVD drive is not working well enough to boot from or possible that the Recovery Disc is defective. Do you have another machine you can test the discs on to see if they will boot?

The COA on bottom of my laptop is intact and I can read entire key. Was packaged with the 64bit windows home premium. I know I can install windows use the key, but I'd like the HP partitions back with the recovery stuff on it. Original HD was a 500GB new one is a 750GB. How do I get it bact like it was when I bought it?

In order to get it back like it was when you first opened the box you wil need a usb HP recovery media flashdrive. In the US the cost is about $25.00.
How to obtain an recovery disk or usb recovery media. Be sure and order the usb media instead of the disk set. It is far more durable and reliable than disks.

  • My system freezes during start-up "for first time" after running System Recovery.

    HP G62-227CL
    Win 7 (64 bit)
No error message, per se; just a frozen screen during reboot.
Months ago, my computer suddenly started glitching on me.  I shut down and tried a reboot.  The system froze on the boot screen with the flying colors.  Tried system recovery several times  but must have done something wrong because it would not run.  Resolved to buy a new hard drive and reinstall from recovery discs.  Delayed for no good reason until today, months later.
Before buying new hard drive, decided to run System Recovery again.  It worked!  I tried the option that deleted everything and restored to original factory settings and software.  Everything appeared to work like a charm: hard drive reformatted, software reinstalled, system prompted me for a reboot.  I did.  Windows started to start, "Setup preparting your computer for the first use" appears . . . and freezes.  For hours.  Hard drive indicator light is off.
BTW, made sure that the Wi-Fi button was on as I read about Recovery issues if it was off when the program ran.
Rebooted.  Hit F11.  Ran maintenance and checked hard drive for errors.  There are errors.  Unfortunately, the default setting of CHKDSK does not repair them.   Opted for a command prompt.  Rand CHKDSK again with "/f /r" option seen in other posts.  I'm too ignorant here to get the program to run properly, I guess.  I ran CHKDSK on both drive X and C.  No errors found . . . sort of.  I know they exist because the system will not boot up.  (Yes, I tried again.)  Back at command prompt, I tried to run CHKDSK on drive C again.  This time I received a message that I would first have to unmount (dismount?) the drive.  As I do not know what this means, I opted for "no" and have decided to post this message for assistance.
So.  Suggestions on what I do next?  More specifically: how do I get CHKDSK to repair the errors it found?  I believe the message was: "Errors in $130 of sector . . ."  It displays this message twice at 62% completion.  Freezes for a long time.  Gets going again only to slow to a crawl again around 70% but for not as long.  Then returns back to the start screen of System Recovery.
Ran System Recovery again for kicks.  Again, appeared to work like a charm.  Unfortunately, the laptop is once again sitting frozen on the "Preparing . . . for first use" screen again.  It is getting hotter the longer it sits.  The fan is now audibly running at higher rpms . . . if any of that helps.  I'm shutting it down and waiting for your advice.
    Thanks!

Hello Miles1966.  I understand you're experiencing some issues with your notebook freezing.
This does sound like a hard drive problem.  The freezes, missing HDD indicator light, and inability to perform a recovery are all symptoms of a failing hard drive.  You had been using CHKDISK previously but have you tried running the diagnostic which is built into the BIOS?  Try following these steps and post the result of the diagnostic.  I suggest running the memory test as well just in case.
Let me know the result of these diagnostics.  I hope you have a great day!

Checked Printer Spooler in Admin Tools; Services, Says Started
Appears virus modified Recovery partition on 6-10-12.
Just purchased pc 1 mo. ago
No changes made prior to problem, printed fine yesterday.
Looked at several problem resolutions in this forum, but found none regarding my problem, other than buying system disc from HP.
I made a system recovery copy on an external hard drive just after buying my notebook. It appears that my system recovery partition has been modified by a virus. My question is: how do I use it to do a full system recovery? When I use my pc's software to do this, I choose "Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer. Then it asks me to insert the admin's password to pull the Recovery program from the hard drive! The next window doesn't give me the 3rd step, which is: Click "Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer", and then follow the steps. It only shows:" resotre using preinstalled recovery options, or resore using a Windows installation disc or a system repair disc."  Thank you very much, your assistance is greatly appreciated!! Ric

  • Hp pavilion os system recovery (windows xp)

    hi,
so im having some major problems when im trying to reformat my computer. first off i have a hp pavilion about 5 years old  that runs windows xp. i've had to reformat in the past and i have 2 system recovery discs that i've used in the past and have worked. however this time when i try to run them i get to the black and white screen where it says "preparing recovery partition" it gets about 2 minutes in and then says "wrong system disk or disk error, press any key to continue". after i press any key it takes me back to the startup page where i can enter setup, let the operating system load (which i normally do when computer starts up) or go to the boot menu. if i dont go to the boot menu and tell it to run the recovery cd it just gets stuck on a black screen with a blinking cursor. but when i run the recovery cd i get the said error message over and over and over and over...when i do go to the boot menu and choose the recovery disc option a black screen comes up that says "no operating system installed or corrupt partition, press r to start full system recovery". so after i press r it takes me back to the preparing recovery partition screen, where once again it gets an error after about 2 mins of loading.  im guessing that the corrupt partition part is whats causing me problems. WHAT DO I DO!? IM SO CONFUSED, i hope that by reading this your not also confused.
    please help!

Try booting with a utilty cd to delete all partitions, create 1 and format hdd. I have had good results with the free Partition Wizard .Download the Bootable CD iso here .Get ImgBurn here to burn the image to cd.
Once all operations complete successfully with PW, reboot with Recovery Disks.
