Starting a project with a voice track

I would like to start my project with a voiceover, but it seems that this isn't possible... is it?
The video is basically going to be a collection of stills and text with a narrative and background music. But I want to start out by getting my spoken ideas recorded and then go from there. Is this possible in iMovie? Or will I have to record these voiceovers in Garageband, or another audio app, and then import them into iMovie?
This is holding me up, so I hope someone can answer soon!

Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, there is no Preset to match your footage. PrE does not yet have PrPro's Desktop Preset, that allows customization, such as you need. Obviously, PrPro would be an option, albeit an expensive one.
One option would be to choose an HD Preset, such as 1440 x 720. The compromises would be that you would have black bars around the image. You could Scale up to match, say the sides, leaving letterboxing. Then, and depending heavily on how you need to deliver the output, you could use something like Flash (FLV), and crop in the output. Not all delivery schemes allow for that, so you will be limited.

Is there anyway to start a project wi
th 800x480 resolution? Or is there a higher resolution of the same ratio
I can then export out at 800x480?
My issue is that I am trying to make a video made from screenshots off of a smartphone with this resolution. Obviously selecting 720 x 480 makes it so the images cannot fully fit the screen. And there does not seem to be an option that has the same ratio as 800x480.

Problem with adding voice track to video podcast

I am working on a video podcast,adn to my horror, if I add extra voice tracks to the imported movie, the frame freezes on whatever was showing when my V/O began. Can this be corrected? another problem, is that the m4v file will not open in Quicktime pro but will open in VLC...

It appears that the Amplitude of the two Audio Clips differ. When you play the Timeline with the Audio Mixer open, do those two Audio Clips show the same Levels, on the VU Meters?
To expand the upper Audio Clip, you can go to the Audio Track Header, and hover the Cursor along that line between the Audio & Video. When the Cursor changes to an equal sign with up/down arrows, click+drag up, to zoom vertically, until the Waveform of that Clip expands, to see it more clearly. Finding that exact spot, where the Cursor changes can take some hovering, but when you see the Cursor change, you know that you are there.

Started a project with the wrong format (plus another problem). Am I screwed?

I set up my project in 1080p 24 (23.98). Don't ask me what I was thinking, clearly I wasn't. I should have set it up as 720p 24.
Instead of transcoding all my 720p 60 (59.94) work files by log and capture, I just started dragging and dropping them in to the timeline and they conformed automatically of course to the project settings. Well now I'm trying to use Red Giant's Denoiser 2 and it's coming up with that "Draft Mode" crap. So I tried nesting a segment and dragging that into a new sequence but making sure the sequence was at 24fps. Now when I right click on that nested clip and look at the properties it says it's at 24fps, but when I try to use the denoiser, it says it "needs sample."
Did I utterly and completely screw myself here? Should I just chalk this one up to not using the denoiser and use it on my next project correctly? I have no idea how to keep everything sequenced, get all the individual clips properly saved to 24fps, and get the over all sequence in the correct 720p resolution.
The only work-around that I could think up, is to export the entire sequence in 720p 24 through compressor, but I'm afraid of compromising the quality. I really don't know how to render it that way but keeping the original apple Pro Res 422 HQ format.
Help! I'm about to lose my mind over here. I really put myself into a rookie pickle lol!

Yah, rookie move I know.
They came from a canon DSLR, so they are H.264 files.
I think I may have found another way to shoot this turkey. It's going to take some work though. I'll have to drag each clip from the browser window into a new timeline that is at the SAME frame rate as what I shot... 59.94. Then I'll have to replicate the entire sequence editing although I'll have the punch in and punch out points already set. Once everything is back in place the way I had it, and all my filters are applied (which will now work because the project is at the same framerate as the individual clips), then I can send the project to compressor and render it in 23.97 fps.
The only thing I won't know how to do at this point is take my slow motion shots that have been conformed from 59.94 to 29.97 and get them into the project which will now be set at 59.97.

Best method for building a project with multiple video tracks

I'm working a project where a client wants some edits made to an existing DVD they had - some video tweaks but mostly menu changes. I'm rebuilding the menus from scratch and I've ripped all the video files from the DVD (there are about 80 of them on one DL-DVD), transcoding them with DV-DVCPRO/NTSC settings.
The problem is when I import them all as assets into my project build, the DVD disc meter shoots up to about 12 or 13gb. What I've done is added them all to their own separate track, as they're meant to be played not as one continuous video but individual sessions.
What I'm wondering is if there is a better way to build it that would reduce the amount of space it takes up (I'm rather new at DVD Studio Pro, so I can't tell if I'm going about this the wrong way or not), or if I need to compress the video files or re-transcode them using some other settings (H.264? I'm trying to maintain as much video quality as possible).

What Application in Master Collection Would I Start this Project With

I have a web project that requires me to impliment a rich user interface that incorporates voice, video, animation using a carisol and accordian menuing system. How would I organize that workflow: Use photoshop to create the images and the slices, import the images into fireworks and create the slices and initial css/html, then bring it into dreamweaver. Use flex and ajax to create the carisol and accordian multimedia menuing structure. or use another process?

Well, to be honest, you could do pretty much everything on your wish list in Flash with action script. I don't typically recommend Flash sites as they are not user or search engine friendly. But you've got a lot on your list that Flash is capable of handling.
If you're new to DW, I suggest you work through a few tutorials first. Do not use code generated by your graphics apps. They are ok for quick comps, but the code is far too rigid and fragile for use in a production site. Slice your images in either PShop or FW and save for the web as images only.

Exporting a project with multiple audio tracks changes the loudness level regardless of export format

I recently had to submit a TVC and discovered that premiere was changing the loudness level after export, when the TVC failed the quality check.
I checked the audio loudness of other formats that I had exported and the same thing had happened the audio loudness, it had changed.
After a bit of troubleshooting I found a workaround. I mixdown all of the tracks in adobe audtion to one track and then imported it into premeire.
Once I did this the audio loudness was not changed after exporting.
Workflow for when it didn't work.
I used edit in adobe audtion for the audio tracks from premiere.
Matched the audio to the loudness level I wanted, and then saved each track.
Export from premiere.
To Check Audio Loudness
Bring in exported file into new premiere project
Edit the audio in adobe audtion.
Drag the audio file into match audio to check loudness level.
I am using
Adobe Premiere Pro CC v8.1
Windows 7 on PC
Please fix this adobe.

Audio Levels and Loudness are two different things in this regard.

Export Video with Multiple Audio Tracks

I need to be able to export video with audio on multiple tracks. I have moved to CS6 from FCP 7 where this was rather easy to do. I can make a preset in AME with more than enough mono tracks but after the encode the video is always smashed to one mono track. I am not doing a 5.1 mix, there are different mic's on each track that need to remain independant of one another and mixing them down within Premiere is not feasable. Are there no options to just have the audio 'pass through' like Compressor? Sorry if there are other posts but I have been searching forever and can not find a simple answer on this topic.
Also, is there no way to have the source timecode burn in? Putting a filter on the video in a sequence is unacceptable, I am very displeased to find that this doesn's seem possible in AME or Premiere, it has been part of Apple's suite for years.

For exporting a multitrack .wav file, you have to start a project with a multichannel audiomaster (3-16 tracks).
Copy and paste your complete edit to the new editsetting.
Now in the audiomixer you can route your audiolayers to the multichannel you like.
(CH1+2 pan to left is channel 1, pan to right is channel 2 and for a stereo track pan to center : channel 1 for left and channel 2 for right.)
Then you export your project to a 3-16 tracks multitrack .wav file.
When you need mono tracks you can import your multitrack .wav file in premiere. Then send it to Audition (edit in Audition) and then adobe will convert the file into mono tracks.
You'll find the mono tracks in your audio capture folder or can premiere search for then by 'reveal in explorer'.
The multi track .wav file has got timecode within the file.
When exporting in QT you can also choose for a multitrack audio file. It also contains your timeline timecode.
.avi or .mp4 video files cannot be exported with more than 5.1 channels of audio
MXF OP1a in XDCAMHD can also be exported with max. 16 channels of audio. It also contains your timeline timecode.
Hopefully you can get further with Premiere Pro with this info.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about that app.
I did go to their Web site and I see they have a support link. Perhaps you can get help there or in their forum.
If you are OK with a DVD with a basic menu, you could try the Share>DVD option in FCP.

How to export project with dual monaural instead of stereo?

I have a very large project with many audio tracks and they are all adjusted right now so they sound right on a balanced stereo system, but I want to make sure the final sound isn't corrupted by someone having their channels adjusted unevenly, so I've decided to sacrifice any stereo effect and output dual identical monaural channels...but I'm not sure the easiest way to do it. Is using Quicktime Conversion and checking "monaural" a way? Or is there someway to do it inside the program...but not irreversibly?
I appreciate any help anybody can give me.

I was over at a friends yesterday I had given him a copy of my dvd and he had said the sound was horrible..that in many places the bkgd music totally overpowered the dialogue and in other places in the program it was just the opposite. Sure enough, he was right. It wa horrible. And I easily discovered the reason. He has a large screen HD TV and his teenagers have the audio from the dvd player hooked to a stereo and had the levels and the equalization set totally different for each of the two tracks.
And I think some other people at one time or another do indeed disturb the balance of their stereo without even realizing it.
Stereo is 2 channels, Left & Right. What could any
user do to 'corrupt the sound' other than change the
Left-Right balance control on their amp, which most
people never touch.

I first installed SQL Serrver Express Edition 2008 with Advanced Services (As a part of some client's software)
Now I have isntalled SQL Server Developer Edition 2008, by selecting ALL features and client tools.
Now, with BIDS, I can start SSRS and SSAS Projects, but I can't start SSIS Projects.
I am getting below error message :
To design Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration
Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
Please let me know how do I resolve this issue "Without un-installing Express Edition installed earlier on my machine"

This is a common pitfall with the SQL Express editions. It cannot co-exist. You
need to un-install the "Express".
What works is having a VM with Express Tools if I you (strangely) need them.

Help with Starting My Project [Project AM]

Here's where my story starts, I've just started out a new year of school and I've been placed in a Computer Science (Higher Level) class, and it so happens that I am to be coding/programming in Java. I've worked with C++ in the past, and I've noticed that Java is quite similar, thankfully.
This Computer Science class is a two-year course, at the end of the two years I will have an external assessment (IB dossier) due. This gives me tons of time to work on this project, if you haven't noticed by now it will be an on-going project.
I know this project is going to take some time that's why I would like to start now.

My project is called "AM" and in the end it will be an "instant messenger" (with your help of course).
The first thing I would like to establish in this project is creating a server program to accept connections and a client to connect to the server (text based). I would like multiclient connections to the one server program.
Now here's the question, what should I look into before starting this project, what Java technologies? What resources should I grab from the library or from the book store? Basically I'm asking where I should begin?
If anyone has any suggestions or even some personal experience with writing a program like this please contact me. I would really appreciate it. Also source code would really help in learning this, but I can probably search that on my own, thanks.

The easiest way to go about this is to use Sockets. You could also look into using RMI

Repair your QuickTime.
Control Panel > Programs n Features > highlight QuickTime and click CHANGE then REPAIR.

My apple TV is connected to a DTV with an HDMI cable and to my Yamaha receiver via optic cable. We rented a movie on Apple TV and.found that the movie played, but we only got audio for music tracks. Voice tracks were silent using both TV and receiver.

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.
