Starting again with iphoto

hi, i have been trying to deal with a messy problem with iphoto and had to start my library all over again. My pictures are saved to my hard disk and i need to reimport them to my new iphoto library, however there are many many many duplicates of each photo (i originally had around 5000 photos and somehow this has increased to 26000) and i want only to import one of each. can anyone help? i know that when importing photo's in to an album and one photo already exists in the library it will ask if you want to import the duplicate, but because nothing is in the library at the moment it dose not seam to recognise a duplicate. Is there a way i can do this?

Later versions of iPhoto have a feature that helps avoid importing duplicates. Other than that there are various apps that will search for duplicate files, and you can try them on the images before importing them to iPhoto. TidyUp is one but there are others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Start again with iPhoto?

    Hi
I'm running iPhoto 6.0.6 on my poor, old MacBook (osx 10.6.8) and it's turned into a bit of a nightmare ever since i opened iPhoto to find no pics in it.
I've followed advice on here for sorting it out but to no avail.
As a result of my tinkering, I have photos, photo libraries and copies of photo libraries all over the place and have managed to get iPhoto to 'talk to' the library if it's on the desktop but anywhere else not.
Is it possible to just strip everything down to one folder containing just photos and start it all over again?
    Thanks

You can recover your photos from the Library - they are in the originals folder. Just drag that to the desktop. Now trash all the flotsam and jetsam. Next Create a new Library - that is, just launch iPhoto.  Then add the photos from the Originals folder on the desktop to the new Library, folder by folder.
Note though that you lose everything except the original photos. All your edits gone, albums, books, slideshows etc.

  • What is the best way to start "fresh" with iPhoto '08?

I am running iPhoto '08 on a mid-2007 iMac. When I set up the machine, I moved all the photos from my PC to the Mac retaining the existing directory structure that I had on the PC. I then imported all the pictures into iPhoto with no problems.
Unfortunately, the other person who uses the Mac needs to be able to use the directory structure as it existed on the PC (that structure involves several subfolders with specific names etc.), and it appears that iPhoto is not designed to work that way. I know the photos can still be manipulated in the folders I imported, but then I run the risk of at best, being out of synch with iPhoto and at worst, corrupting iPhoto completely.
That said, what I would like to do is delete or remove the current iPhoto library (or whatever iPhoto accesses; not the whole application unless necessary) and then selectively import photos to iPhoto. That way, the other user can access the photos in the familiar folder structure and manipulate them at will without disturbing the iPhoto db and, once photos are edited etc. and ready for primetime, they can be imported to iPhoto to gain the advantages of displaying using Front Row etc.
My question is what is the best way to achieve what I am looking for? Just backup then delete the iPhoto pkg file in the HD/Library/Receipts folder? Uninstall the entire application and start over?
    All assistance greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You don't need to re-install iPhoto, just change the library - and you may not even need to do that.
    1. You can easily recreate your Directory structure in iPhoto. Simply start at the bottom of your structure and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane of the iPhoto Window. iPhoto will create an Album of the same name. The create your enclosing folders (File -> New Folder) and drag the albums to it. This way you can quickly recreate what you have/
    2. The other user of the files can access them directly via the iPhoto Window or a Media Browser such as THIS. The advantage of this system is that your directory structure is available to them ina convenient and recognisable way. They can then drag the pics from the iPhoto Window / Media Browser to the app they as the need. (A whole lot faster than fumbling around in Folder after Folder etc, plus the advantage of keyword searching.)
    3. Is this necessary for working with an editor? You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. Btw this is the only way that edits made in iPhoto will be visible in iPhoto.
    4. Finally, if you do wish to go as you described: Simply trash the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder. Start iPhoto and it will create an new empty library. If you wish to recover the files from the Library first, then Right Click on the iPhoto Library and go 'Show Package Contents'. Your files are in the Originals Folder.

  • Anyway to 'start again' with the N95? In a sense f...

My N95 hasnt been running at its best recently. Its seems to be slower here and there, my maps have disappeared, the gps doesnt connect, wifi doesnt always work properly etc and all these little glitches get on your nerves! Is there anyway to, in a sense, start again? Like a computer can be formatted. Is there a way to completely re-install the firmware or anything of such?
    Thanks.

If you want to totally start from scratch format your memory card then hard reset the phone.
This will return it to an out-of-the-box state. Backup anything you want to keep.
The hard reset is the most complete method of doing this, other than getting it flashed at a nokia care point. It's also safe compared to reinstalling the firmware.
    Hard reset:
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

Mostly you can make the hard reset by dialing *#7370# with the code 12345.

  • Starting over with iPhoto?

My library in iPhoto is too large 100,000+ photos. I have tried to split it with Library Manager, but it is too big and after duplicating a part, I can't delete it. I have a backup, but can't seem to find the iPhoto Library to try and re-import the photos to new iPhoto libraries created by Library Manager.
Library is not workable as is, how do I start with little libraries and where do I import the photos from? I have them on an external time machine backup, but don't see them.

    Create a New Library:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'. Name it and save it.
Then use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/albums/events to the new Library.
    See if that works.

  • My macbook (born 2006, mac os x snowleopard) broke down. I started again with DVD, but can not find hard disc, to repair it - can any body help me, pleeeeease?

first time, using that way looking for help (in former times I get it directly from apple...). My problem: my macbook was getting more and more slowly, I turned it off an after turning on again, there was only a question mark. after starting with system-DVD, I could not find the hard disc to repaire it with first aid or do any thng else. I´m writing with macbook pro of my daughter now and ugentnly need to start my macbook as soon as possible. could any body help me??? (sorry, my english is a not so well) andrea from berlin

Since you have the system disks, you can try running the Apple Hardware Test, that should confirm if the drive is dead or not. You'll use the disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label.

  • Starting problem with iPhoto - wrong file deleted

Hello, I have problem with starting my iPhoto... a few days ago I made a mistake when I  accidentally deleted some file in system settings...  I think it was  ,,Framework,,
Now I cant start it and only descriptions of the error is appearing .. Can we fix it ? Or its possible to reinstall this app??
    Thank you.

a few days ago I made a mistake when I  accidentally deleted some file in system settings...  I think it was  ,,Framework,,
If you deleted a framework, we need to where.
If the error message says something like
    Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/...
    or  Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
Then you need to reinstall MacOS X to fix this. These dynamic libraries are installed by the system.
Reinstall by booting into the recovery ,  see this link for how to reinstall:    OS X: About OS X Recovery
You do not need to wipe your system and reinstall the apps, if you reinstall the system. Just run the installer and install on top of your current system.

Are you connecting it to the computer to charge? If so, you can't. It will go to the "do not disconnect" screen and so lose it's place.
However, if it's connected via a wall charger, it should resume from where it left off after it's charged.
    At least, that's my experience.

  • Starting over with iPhoto 08

I installed iPhoto 08 yesterday but all my recent pictures disappeared from the library. I have a backup copy of all my pictures. How do I just dump the library and start over? Bob

    bobborchers
How does that appear to you? Blank squares? Or no trace at all of the pics?
Before we can tell you how to recover from the back up, you're going to need to tell us how the back up was made.
But - and DON"T DO THIS UNITL YOU KNOW HOW THE BACK UP WAS MADE - you will need to trash the iPhoto Library from Pictures and put the recovered back up there in it's place.
So, how was the back up made? Is it Current? Have you read the Help from your Back Up app to see what is says about restoring?

  • HT201401 My little brother has changed my password on my phone, and i cant get on to it.. how to i wipe my phone to start again with out a password?

Need to find out how to wipe my phone so that i can get onto it as my brother changed my password and i cant get onto my phone what so ever.

Then you'll have to force the phone into recovery mode and restore it. Turn your phone off:
Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • Getting started again with recording songs

I have written several songs and I want to record, mix & edit them on my computer; I may also want to add video to some of the songs. I don't want to buy something like cakewalk if I can use an Adobe product that will work with PP CS4.
I already have PPCS4 that I have used to make a guitar set-up and adjusting tutiriol HD DVD that I am selling on Ebay. It comes with a tool kit and the video turned out great. Being somewhat familiar with Adobe products........,
my first, of what may be many question is: Can I use PP CS4 like a multi-track? Or do I need another application software, like Soundbooth or.........?
I will ty to keep my questions single bases, so I don't get confused with a lot of stuff all at once. LOL
    Thanks
    Jim

My advice is don't try to use Premiere Pro for recording audio. It has multiple audio tracks, but those are for editing, not recording. Soundbooth CS4 and CS5 do multi-tracks pretty well and the software is easy to use. But for heavy-duty editing with a lot of effects, racks and so forth, then use Adobe Audition. Soundbooth is mostly for light-duty editing and for editing the sound tracks of videos. Audition is a much more professional-quality tool and will interface with your instruments and other electronics. Just make sure to buy version 3.0 and not an older version on eBay (unless you're doing it just to qualify for an upgrade). Versions 1 and 2 have serious issues and might not even run on your machine.

vbuletin or even a phpbb (i run one) would be better than this rubbish, seriously!
it's very slow and unintuitive (that means confusing).
HP, good computers, poor support forum.

This support forum is very well constructed, even though it is sometimes slow during 'Reply to Message', 'Preview Post', and with the initial loading at Login.  However, that might just be a function of how many users are online.

  • Delete library from old ipod and start again with whats on another iphone

I'm using my daughter's old computer with itunes.
It has her library on it.
I want to delete the library and sync it with whats on my iphone.
I tried remove program and reinstalling from itunessetup.exe but the old library remained.
How do I get itunes with the songs from my iphone on this computer without having all the songs from my daughter's old library on it as well.

If it's an older ipod, you can physically pull the files from it as though it was another hard drive and then add them to iTunes.
If it's an iPhone/iTouch, you need special software (unable to be discussed here due to TOS - look up "TuneAid" on the web) to get the music off the device and into the library. Without that, you can only overwrite (erase) what is on the iPhone and replace with new music from your library.
