Starting Aperture

Version 1.5.2 has stopped loading. The splash screen stays on the desktop and reads "Items not yet stored in a Vault: box icon with the number 3 next to it; tag icon with the number 57 next to it. If I click outside the slash screen it disapears and the app stops loading. Has been working for more than a year.

This is now happening to me too. I tried repairing drives and permissions, and deleting the Aperture prefs worked for me the first time - I had to choose the library location in the preferences and restart aperture and it was fine. But the next time I tried to start it - the same thing. Hung on the splash screen. Sometimes it gets past that point then nothing appears - the dock icon is there, no application window. Force Quit doesnt kill it and sometimes it requires a reboot. Finder hangs if you try and browse the folder containing the Aperture library while Aperture is hung. And there is no crash log.

  • Mobile Me prompting me to sign in when start Aperture 3

I have a annoying problem every time I start Aperture 3.1 I get a prompt to sign up for mobile me. The only thing I can click on is No thanks which i do every time, sign in or learn more. I appreciate the help if someone could help me with this. I think the problem happened because at one time I did have a trial version of mobile me and canceled it.

Yes question has been answered by me. Preferences then web remove mobile me. See what happens when you spend a little time with aperture. Now if someone would implement a duplicate filter man that would same me weeks. Anyway thanks guys.

  • How can i start aperture without retyping the serial number?

how can i start aperture without retyping the serial number?

    Quit Aperture.
Go to your Macintosh HD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.
Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.

  • Aperture running in Mountain Lion. Now when I start Aperture it asks me for a Serial Number . Where can I find this as it was a download and I have no packaging?

I recently purchased Aperture from App store and this was running fine until I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Now when I start Aperture it asks me for a Serial Number . Where can I find this as it was a download and I have no packaging?

I also have this problem! Mine is also not from the App Store. I had purchased Aperture 1, then upgrades for both version 2 and version 3. It's annoying as it is, but I also have to enter my previous serial number as well since it was an upgrade.
Following this thread in the hopes that someone will have a solution.

  • Itunes starts Aperture every time I plug in a device. can I stop it?

I understand it is just trying to download pictures... but I don't want it to download until I'm ready (or willing).
How do I stop it from starting Aperture every time I sync my phone?
    Thanks.

Okay! Browsing here has answered my question. Thanks to all.
For the record you need to start Image Capture (in applications directory) and Aperture. In both you need to go to preferences and set the "when connected start this" setting to " no application".
    Problem solved.

  • Empty Photostream Projects of old months appears when starting Aperture

    Hi all,
my Photostream is not working very well with aperture. I used to work with iPhoto. With changing to Aperture i am still using the same library.
Now when im starting Aperture, there are always new Projects with the title "Photostream August" and "Photostream Octobre". But there are no Photos inside! Link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/97116580@N03/sets/72157637727530316
I tried to delete the projects, tried to merge them with other projects. Didnt work. I also turned Photostream off and on again. But the projects still exists after restart Aperture.
Can somebody help in this case?
    Thanks a lot. Best Regards!

These projects are created by the automatic photo stream import. That is one of the glitches, that occasionally has been observed, when automaic import has been enabled. If you want to avoid these zombie project set the import to manual import. Only, then you will have to remember to import your photos once a month.

  • Starting Aperture leads to reboot under mountain lion

    Dear community,
I have installed mountain lion on my macbook pro (2010; 2,4ghz i5; snow leopard) and now notice several problems with the data access.
Starting time machine used to let the macbook reboot, now it is aperture:
as soon as I click on the aperture icon, the screen goes black and the macbook reboots giving a warning saying that the system crashed for unknown reason.
i have tried pram-reset and repaired the disk access permissions so far.
    any adviced or ideas?
    thanks in advance, regards,

When you are looking at the Aperture Applicaion in the Filder you should not be able to see subfolders, only the Applications icon - it should look like this - how did you move your Aperture application? Did you not use the FInder? The plug-ins folder inside the Aperture package should be a subfolder of "Contents", not directly of Aperture. Or are you looking at the Applications Support folder in the system  library, not at the Aperture application in the Applications folder?

  • My 3.4.5 has ~ 35000 jpg masters.  I have set aperture not to create previews on import and have ensured "maintain previews" is not ticked.  Every time I start aperture it insists on creating previews for ~ 4300 images. Why?

Having had the previews created I selected all photos and "delete previews".  It did this quickly and no more previews being created.  Once aperture is closed and then re-opened aperture immediately sets about creating the previews for the same photos.  I don't understand why this should be happening.
This is occuring on my Mackbook Air (Aug 2012) which has 256 GB storage. I am fast running out of space as I am using "Managed Masters".  I intend to make the masters referenced by relocating them to an external HDD but before doing this would like to clear up this problem first. I keep my Vault on the external HDD and have Time Machine and Time Capsule.  When I have relocated the masters to the external HDD I intend that TM backs the external HDD to the TC.  I tink that I will use the second partition on the external HDD for Carbon Copy Cloner to back up the Mackbook Air.
Any help or advice warmly welcomed.

    Frank
    Many thanks for your input.
Following your advice I have selected all the projects individually and checked the status of Mantain Previews.  Some were indeed marked up for Mantail Preview so I have unmarked them.
I have also selected Photos and deleted  previews and also repeated this for My Projects.
Checking the Get Info for the Preview folder in Aperture Library in Finder this now tells me that I have zero bytes for 564 items.
Close and then reopen Aperture and it regenerates these564 previews in the blink of an eye.  I haven't been able to locate these photos yet.  I know there are about 120 in facebook and 10 in photostream but dont know where the rest are.
It seems the issue is not with Aperture but with myself and not understanding Aperture sufficiently well
Do you see the problem this way?

  • Starting Aperture on a new comuter

    Hi !
I have restored my configuration from Time Machine onto a new iMac following the death of my MacBook. Aperture is prompting me for the serial number of my installation CD. I can't find the original package. Is there a way to retrieve it or by-pass this stage ?
    Thank you

Do you have Aperture on a second Mac installed? Then you can see the serial number in the About panel; from the main menu bar select:
         Aperture > About Aperture
If you cannot find the Serial number, you will have to contact Apple with a proof of purchase,
    see these links:

  • Crash at starting Aperture 3 with MAC 10.7

    Aperture 3.2.1 on iMAC
    Aperture new installation no change

Have a look at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics and give that a try. Also if you could post a bit more about your setup, hadrware etc.
You wrote Aperture new installation no change just what does that mean? Is there anything in the library or are you opening Aperture for the very first time?  If it is the very first time and it is crashing I'd suggest trying a re-install first.

  • Aperture 2 won't start with a networked disc attached - any ideas?

    Hi,
I'm running Aperture 2 on a MBP. The Aperture database file and all deleted files are stored in the default locations on the laptop's internal drive. If the laptop is left off the network, Aperture starts normally and everything is okay.
My network uses an Apple TimeCapsule as its wireless network hub. Attached to this through USB is a Drobo mass storage device which makes its files available throughout the house. The Drobo does not house any Aperture-related files.
If I connect the MBP to the wireless network and start Aperture it hangs at the splash screen. It never finishes loading even if I leave it twelve hours. The Aperture task is using almost no CPU time and only a small amount of memory.
If I disconnect the Drobo from the TimeCapsule and attach it directly to the MBP by FireWire, Aperture starts normally.
The Drobo is healthy and can be used by other applications with only the slightest delay. The MBP's disk is in perfect working order with no errors. The machine has all the necessary updates and security fixes and Aperture is up to date.
Does anyone know why Aperture is freaking over the networked Drobo? And are there any solutions?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Mike.

I experienced the same issue today after enabling the TimeMachine capabilities of my Buffalo LinkStation NAS device for the first time.
After which, Aperture 2 would hang at the splash screen indefinitely. This occurred even though I do not actually mount the shared Time Machine volume (as this is not necessary for Time Machine to use the service on the LinkStation).
Turning Time Machine off allowed Aperture to start normally.

  • How do you make Aperture not default to Import mode upon start?

I leave my iPhone plugged in to my Mac most of the time. Consequently, Aperture always starts up in Import Mode. Does anyone know how to turn this off?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Yeah, I see that setting. It's also duplicated in Image Capture. And setting it to "No Application" doesn't seem to matter. If the iPhone is plugged in before Aperture starts, Aperture launches import mode every time. Poop!

  • Aperture has started random "processing"

I have been idle in the Aperture community for a while, but I have not found the answer to this problem in my searches.
My Aperture (Still 3.2.2) is processing a large number (2000) of images.  It's just "Processing".  There is no explanation of what it is doing or why it started.  My wife started Aperture the other day and said "The computer's running slow".  She does not know of any stray keystroke or menu option she chose.
Now, I have this "Processing" paused.  While it was paused, I plugged an iPhone into my Mac.  Instead of presenting me with an "Import from iPhone" window, Aperture started a secong "processing" activity!  Now I have two "Processing" activities, without any indication of what or why!
I tried plugging in a different iPhone.  It's fishy -- I did not get the"Import" window.  However, Aperture did not start a third "Processing" activity.
The selection of photos that are being processed have no rhyme or reason to me.  They are from different cameras, different years, different projects!  Some are managed, some are referenced.
Does anyone have a clue what might have started this and what exactly Aperture is processing?
    nathan

    Hi Kirby,
Have you tried letting it process overnight?
I don't doubt that the Processing activity will finish if I let it -- I'm just afraid of what it is doing!  If I didn't ask Aperture to do any heavyweight processing on my photos with Places, is it doing something that I don't want it to?  Is it messing something up?
And is there a reason you've not updated to 3.2.3?
I usually watch the scuttlebutt about problems with upgrades for a little while before I perform the upgrade.  This time, my personal life got put on hold while I work crazy hours at work.  Once I get a chance to think about things and make sure my library is sufficiently backed up, I will upgrade.  I know Apple makes things easy, but I always take a good chunk of time to make sure my system is in a good state to perform an upgrade that is as important as Aperture.
