  • HAL won't start (false alarm)

I recently installed Arch on a new computer.  The install went without a hitch, but once I rebooted into KDE4.1 HAL wouldn't work preventing me from mounting my CD/DVD drives.
When I boot, it says D-Bus and HAL start OK, but once I get into KDE there's no sign of it.  I tried to start it manualy but it fails, I tried to stop it incase it was already running, and it failed again. I've confirmed D-Bus is working.
I've checked my fstab, the optical drives where commented out, and I even went so far as to remove them all together but no luck.

It appears that hal is working, I can plug in a flash drive and It'll work just fine.  It seems the matter is limited to my optical drives.
I don't know if this is at all relevent, but my optical drives are IDE and I'm running Arch off of a USB drive.

    Hi Jit,
    Rename the boot.properties to boot.properties_back,
Now are u able to start the Admin Server with direct StartAdmin.sh script???
If yes, what were the credentials used during startup, were they weblogic/weblogic???
If you have forgotten your username and password
Follow the steps provided in the below link for resetting the password
    http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=323
Once you follow the above steps
Try login to console with the new username and password.
Now changes needs to be done in installSvc_iw.cmd
    set WLS_USER=weblogic
    set WLS_PW=weblogic Regards

  • [solved] GDM won't start after update

    Hello.
Today I made a pacman -Syu and gdm was updated.
On the next boot i only get a console and not the usual gdm login.
I loged in and tried to start gdm manualy with /etc/rc.d/gdm restart
wich results in an error message : "gdm already running. Aborting!", but it isnt
The X Server works (tried startx).
Any ideas what happend to gdm and how to fix it?
/edit : additional info: using current repository

Does your gdm.conf file contains paths like this: /usr/X11R6/bin
I think pacman just overwrites the config files if you never changed anything to them. In my case I did some modifications, so pacman made a backup of my modified file.
In case your file don't contain any /usr/X11R6/... , you may try do diff your file between mine:
    # GDM Configuration file. You can use gdmsetup program to graphically
    # edit this, or you can optionally just edit this file by hand. Note that
    # gdmsetup does not tweak every option here, just the ones most users
    # would care about. Rest is for special setups and distro specific
    # tweaks. If you edit this file, you should send the HUP or USR1 signal to
    # the daemon so that it restarts: (Assuming you have not changed PidFile)
    # kill -USR1 `cat /var/run/gdm.pid`
    # (HUP will make gdm restart immediately while USR1 will make gdm not kill
    # existing sessions and will only restart gdm after all users log out)
    # You can also use the gdm-restart and gdm-safe-restart scripts which just
    # do the above for you.
    # For full reference documentation see the gnome help browser under
    # GNOME|System category. You can also find the docs in HTML form on
    # http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/
    # NOTE: Some of these are commented out but still show their default values.
    # If you wish to change them you must remove the '#' from the beginning of
    # the line. The commented out lines are lines where the default might
    # change in the future, so set them one way or another if you feel
    # strongly about it.

  • Adobe Photo-Downloader, can't reactivate it after changing driveletter of CF-card

    Hi all,
I have a problem with the reactivation of the Adobe Photo-Downloader and don't know how to solve it.
After I have changed the driveletter of the CF-Cardreader to drive B the downloader wouldn't recognice the insertion of a CF-Card. When I start it manualy there comes the message "not files found".
In the explorer I see the card and the files; under "computerverwaltung" -> "Datentraegerverwaltung" (sorry, I don't know the english words) I can also see the CF-Card.
It is the same, when I change the driveletter. What can I do to reactivate this ?
    System: Windows XP pro
    Lightroom 1.0
    all windows updates
    1 GB memory

That happened to me until I did an Import in LR, then the auto-load worked every time after that.

  • Apple Mobile Service Failure

When trying to install itunes on my PC so i can put music on my new IPod Touch. I get an error reading. "Service 'Apple Moblile Device (Apple Mobile Device' Failed to start, verify that you have sufficient system priveleges to start system services." i went into my services to try and start it manualy but it says "Windows could not start the Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." idk what to do to sort it so any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Hello busyzeus,
I was looking into the message you are getting when trying to install iTunes and have found a couple of articles that should help you get back up and running. If you are installing iTunes becuase you've just uninstalled the application, then there may be other files that need to be removed. This article named Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components outlines how to completely uninstall iTunes.
Here is the link for Windows XP: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    And for Vista/7: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you are just installing iTunes for the first time, then I recommend going through this article named Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Oracle RDBMS Kernel Executable Error

    Hi People
First of all let me say all you my English is not very good.
I am from Mozambique and now we are working with Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 OS.We have a lot of servers, all of them have more than one million records. But one of them now is displaying the following message error:
    ORACLE RDBMS KERNEL EXECUTABLE ERROR.
This message appears when i start the server (means that appear when i start the database). I think the problem is related with file ORACLE.EXE...perhaps is damaged or corrupted.Until now we still connect the database but i don't know the real dimension of this error, i don't if i wiil wake up tomorrow with my database crashed or not.
How can i fix this error? Is possible to repair that file without losing data?
    Afonso Pene

This is a windows problem. What comes into my mind:
    1. Check event log, are there any other messages. Are there any windows error codes.
    2. If problem after one more restart still exists, then think about reinstalling oracle or restoring oracle.exe from opsystem backup if You have such.
Seems oracle services are automaticaly started when system reboots?
You can try to put them into manual mode and then restart server and try to start them manualy - will error again appear or this was one time error.
Anyway, debug should be done from windows side.
If database is running just fine and users are not complaining, then maybe it's just windows error reporting as it suddenly went down and when came up again, it reported some errors. as a result no actions should be done.

Just FYI The same patches i am applying in the different server are working fine.

    Hi,
Did you use SPAM? What is the status of SPAM? The error could be due partial instalaltion of patches as you lost the power while installation.

  • Unusual error, not found in the apple support site

I just got my iPod back from being fixed due to a bit of a battery problem. fixed, but since it was gone for so long, 2 months, I haven't bothered to update itunes or the iPod os updater.
well I did so as soon as i got it back, tody, but itunes and the updater both says that they can't communicate to it.
iTunes saye this exact error as it starts up when the iPod is pluged in.
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
I have done so about 3 times, uninstalled it, restarted, everything.
the only thing i can figure is that the iPodservice.exe will not start when windows does, i even went through both start>run>msconfig and turned it on and through the services in the administrative tools in the control panel to turn it automatic and started it manualy.
    still nothing.
    edit>
just found out that when i do turn on the iPodservice, it closes when i try either itunes ot the updater.

    hi Liger!
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
... i'm not sure if you've resolved this yet or not. but here are the best places to start with that error message:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • 100% cpu load on emagent.exe process

i'm testing latest Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) database on virtual machine (through vmware on winxp). i've got dualcore cpu, one core is dedicated for virtual OS. when i installed oracle database with default settings on it, everything worked fine. i tried to import my tablespaces, schemas and data into it and after a while, I noticed strange behavior. system was very very slow. i run sysinternals process explorer (something like extended task manager) and discovered, that there are 3 processes named "perl.exe" that are consuming all the cpu time constantly !! each one consumes cca 33% of cpu. all these procesess were created by process "emagent.exe" even if it wasn't accessed via explorer... can anybody give me a hand with this?

i needed to get it working, so i installed it on another virtual machine, and it seems to work now...
    but back to this problem>
i turned it on and the problem is still here, BUT now the database instance doesn't even start :< when i want to start it manualy through web em, it needs to provide host OS user name and password. when i enter it, it will say "wrong password" (the user account is in administrator and dba group and have right password). i also tried to create new user account (winxp) with roles administrator and dba, but it doesn't help.
maybe it's newbie question, because i'm newbie as you could imagine ;>
i uploaded emagent log files here:
    http://www.samopal.eu/emagent.log
    http://www.samopal.eu/emagent.trc
    if someone is interested.
these are old ones. i wanted to to clear logs and try to reproduce this overload and see clearly what exactly is the cause, but because i don't know how to start this db up, i can't...
i will try to do something with it tomorow and i will put there what am i discovered then...
