Starting Facetime (MacBook Air) from Dock menu causes program error.
When opening Facetime from the Dock menu, I get an error message. Something like: "there was a problem, please close the program". The only option is to close it, btw, and it does not help. But when I start the program from the launchpad menu, it works just fine. How can I make the Facetime icon in the Dock menu work?
Exactly the same problem ! just cant launch Facetime from the dock. From Finder or launchpad works fine.

Hello,
A flashing question mark appears when I re/start my MacBook Air 2013. Then, I pressed POWER & OPTOIN buttons and internet options appeared for internet recovery. After internet recovery, the OS X utilities appears with four options (Restore from Time machine, Reinstall OS X, Get help online and Disk utility). But none of them seemed helpful. On the last option Disk utility, the icon created only with 33KB and other disk 1 Mac Os X Base system. On First Aid, the icon Repair disk is disabled. So I could not click on repair disk. Could you please suggest me how to solve this problem asap? Thank you so much for your help in advance! You can try the following:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
I start my macbook air up and a file comes up with a question mark. When I go to Disk Utility I go to update things or erase everything and my disks don't show up or anything. Anyone know what to do?
Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

When I try to burn a CD off of my MacBook Air (from iTunes) using the external CD drive, it acts like it is burning the CD, but then when I try to play it the CD is blank.
Many thanks for the diagnostics.
Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380.
Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install -
I purchased a macbook air from someone on craigslist, and when i try to download iPhoto, it tells me that these apps were already designated to another apple id. any way to reset the app store from thinking it's still alligned with him? Lion was reset already, but this isn't. If i download on my mac mini, will i then be able to retrieve the download on my air?
Hi...
On the MBAir drag the iPhoto app to the Trash, empty the Trash.
Then try purchasing and downloading iPhoto.
You can re download iPhoto on all your authorized Macs. To authorize the MBAir, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store > Authorize This Mac. You will be prompted for your Apple ID and password.
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. -

If you didn't purchase the extended warranty, AppleCare, you are not entitled to any repairs free of charge once the 1 year warranty expires. -
Use of 802.11 ac wifi with my MacBook Air from end of 2010
Is it possible to upgrade my MacBook Air (from end of 2010) with an adapter for 802.11 ac? I want to use it with a new AirPort Time Capsule.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your AirPort card does not allow you to use 802.11ac. However, you can buy a Wi-Fi adapter that supports 802.11ac, so you can connect to your new AirPort Time Capsule through 802.11ac.
Note that this is not necessary, and that most users will not note any difference between 802.11ac and 802.11n, which is the connection that your Mac will use to connect to your AirPort Time Capsule through the internal AirPort. Also, note that you will need a driver for the Wi-Fi adapter -
How update my macbook air from OS X 10.5.8 to newest OS
how I can update my MacBook Air from OS X 10.5.8 to newer OS avalaible
You can't directly upgrade from 10.5 - call Apple and purchase 10.6. Back up your computer and install 10.6. I'm not sure what version of 10.6 you'll get - you may need to download an update to 10.6 before you can upgrade to 10.8 because the App Store wasn't part of the original 10.6 - it came with the 10.6.8 update if I remember properly. Once you've upgraded to 10.6 and have the App store you can upgrade to 10.8.

Upgrade Hard disk on a macbook air from 80g to 120g
I'm trying to upgrade my hard drive disk on a macbook air from the original 80g to the new 120g, does some one knows were can I find and buy the 120G HDD?
Hi Andres,
there is a problem if you mean the 120 GB HDD from Rev. B - your MBA uses the PATA-interface, the new one the SATA-interface.
In one sentence: The 120 GB from Rev B. will NOT fit your Rev A.

My Macbook air flash had gone for a month and I saw Apple's Macbook air flash storage drive replacement program. I'm not sure whether that program is still available for the broken device or not. Now, I'm booting from the external hard drive. Warranty has gone in October 2013..
I want to send back my macbook air back to apple store. The problem is that I bought it from US and now, I'm using it in Myanmar. If the program is free of charge for my device, it's worth trying to send back to US. Since mine is broken, I'm afraid Apple will take charges for reparing.
So, if anyone having the same problem as me, I would like to get suggestion....
Thank you!!I have no idea about how to handle the international aspect of your question.
But here is the Apple writeup about the problem and the remedy. Maybe that will help you.
