Starting Ink Tool in Word 2010

I have a laptop computer but no tablet or pen with it.  I was wondering if I can use the Starting Ink tool with my mouse to edit/grade documents.  (I am a teacher at a high school.)  I cannot figure out how to make the ink write on my
Word document.  I  have it on the ribbon, but when I click on it with my mouse and then try to write on the document, it does nothing.  Do you have to have a pen or is there a way to write with the mouse?
Thanks,  Jill

Hi,
You cannot work with Ink tools via the mouse, the feature disabled as default without tablet pc, see below image:
Click "File" > "Options" > "Customize Ribbon" > "Main Tabs" box > Review.
The improved inking feature in Word 2010 lets you make ink annotations on your document on your Tablet PC and save those ink annotations together with the document.
Use ink on a Tablet PC
You may use Text Effects, Text Highlight color, Change Styles as a workaround.
Best regards.

  • RoboHelp for Word starts up Word 2010

    Hi all,
I have RoboHelp 7 installed for a long while. I have always been using RoboHelp HTML, and I use it with Word 2003 as the default Word version. This combination has been working very nicely. My O/S is Windows 7 Home Premium.
But now I want to test out using RoboHelp for Word. So after running it, I tried opening a new project, and RH started to run Word 2010, although Word 2003 is my default Word version. This probably happened as a result of my installing Word 2010.
I suppose I can fix this problem by uninstalling Word 2003 and then reinstalling it. But is there a quicker fix?
    Thanks,
    avraham

Try just opening and closing Word 2003 before you run RoboHelp.

  • How to setup Word 2010 Workgroup Templates location with Office 2010 Customization Tool

I can't seem to find it under Modify Users Settings, Microsoft Word 2010, Word Options, Advanced, and File Locations.
    Is it configured somewhere else?

    Hi,
As we know, the workgroup templates file location are controlled by the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General\[SharedTemplates]
The workgroup templates location will change after you change the string value of the registry key. We could deploy it via OCT directly.
    The link below may help:

  • Acrobat pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 crashes when processing large files

I am trying to use the pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 to create a PDF document. Whenever I try and create the document, the acrobat addin crashes word.
I attempted to perform this on both an x86 and x64 machine and it failed both times at around the approximately same point (during/immediately after determining the bookmarks).
The document is large (862 pages, 2425 bookmarks, 311 300dpi graphics, for a total file size of 49.2MiB)
I can generate the PDF by just printing, but the whole point of using the pdfmaker is so that we don't have to perform 2.5K of manual cross-links.

I recently ran into this with a bitmap in a 265 page document. I copied the bitmap to IrfanView and then back (I think that was the step -- I am already forgetting) and the copied it back. The problem went away. My student may look a bit more at the file -- I asked so I could give a more definitive comment here.
The result I had suggests that it is a problem in WORD or the bitmap that WORD was using. Why WORD can deal with it and not Acrobat, I am not sure. However, when printing to the Adobe PDF printer there was not a problem, just with PDF Maker.

  • Calandar Help For Microsoft Word 2010!

In Microsoft Word 2010 how do I add a calandar that already has every holiday on each month that it's suppossed to be so that I won't have to type or write it on there and how do I save it as a template in Word 2010 so that I can use it every time I need
to and also be able to start with any year and be able to work with one month at a time and then print out the 12  months separately thereby working with each month separately and type in any day of the week and then go to the next month from there and
type on it as well each separate day of the week?
    Bryan

    Hi,
Do you mean the Calendar template in Word when you click File > New? If so, I'm afraid there is no build-in template which meets the request in Microsoft Word. I've found a template for Excel, but nothing for Word.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/templates/any-year-calendar-with-holidays-TC104014201.aspx
You may need to find some third-party templates to achieve the goal.

  • Configure Word 2010 startup with /n switch.

    Hello,
Opening MS Word with /n switch, Example "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /n, Word 2010 will start a new instance of Word with no document open. Can this be done via GPO as we are looking into configuring this for hundreds
    of users. Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't know a direct way to realize this via GPO, but a workaround may be helpful.
Since the path for all users should be the same(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe), we can make one shortcut, then modify its Properties -> Add
    /n to the target behind the full path C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe. It will be like "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /n
in the shortcut properties, save it to a shared folder, then create a startup script which pulls this shortcut from the shared folder to the user's local desktop.
Since I'm not a script expert, you may need to contact other resource for further assistance.

  • PDF Maker - Converting Word 2010 headlines to PDF Bookmarks

    Hi Guys,
I'm facing some issues within my organization using the Adobe Acrobat PDF Maker for Word 2010.
Since version 10.1.1 it seems that the bookmark creation tool malfunctions .
I'm trying to produce a PDF bookmarks based on word 2010 headlines , when I'm comparing version 10.1.1 output to 10.1.2,10.1.3,10.1.4 and even 11 outputs I can notice a variety of changes although all my settings are identical .
Is there any known issue regarding this problem ?
As for now  - I cannot upgrade any of my users to any version higher than 10.1.1.
    Should I report a new bug ?
Any help will be really appreciated .
    Thanks !

No I was referring to the post that started this thread:

Sound like appearanced order is changed between the different versions. He saying if you set up Bookmarks in one version it should look the same in all versions. Apparently the organization (Business) he belongs to, each station have different version of Acrobat.
The best answer would be have evenone update or upgrade to the same version.

  • Can not open Word 2010 docx in Word 2013 from Outlook 2013 mail

    Hello,
I got a mail on outlook with a word 2010 attachment in docx format.
Open this attachment with double click will show only the welcome screen with the text Open in protected mode.
With process monitor I could that word 2013 in an endless loop and tries to create the registry key
    "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options\Vprsu" in an loop.
The result is always ACCESS DENIED.
When I create this key manually there will be an loop to create the registry key
    "HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\15.0\word\options\Assist".
The result is always ACCESS DENIED.
When I create this key manually. Word show the attachment immediatelly.
Closing Word and open the attachment again will delete this registry key and the cycle starts again.
Is there a hotfix available that will repair this?
I think this is an error in word 2013 protected view.
Disabling the protected view will help, but is not an good solution.
    Is there any other workarround?
    Screenshot from process monitor:
    Best Regards,
    Dieter

This issue may occur if the default file associations for Word are damaged. You may repair Office 2013 to restore the file associations and check if that helps. Refer to the link below for more information. You may restart
the computer once the repair is done.

Note: Close all Office applications before you perform the repair.

  • Can't Place a specific Word 2010 docx into InDesign CS4

I'm trying to use the Place command to bring the text from a specific Word 2010 docx into InDesign CS4.
I've successfully brought in several Word 2010 documents (docx extention) to InDesign CS4 documents using the place command.
I have one specific 30 page document (which is no loarger than others which have been successful), and when I use the place command with this file, nothing happens (and no text gets loaded onto the cursor for placement.
I've tried re-saving the word doc, even pasted its contents into a new Word doc and still can't get the Place command to work.
THere's nothing particularly unique about the file - doesn't have any odd embedded content, just a 30 page text document writtin in word.
Any ideas what could be going wrong or how to fix it?
I've tried restarting both Word and InDesign without any change (and the rest of my word files can be Placed without problem, so I imagine it's something specific to that file.
NOTE - re-saving in RTF format lets the Place command work but leaves a bunch of empty squares/boxes (not sure if these were for tabs or empty spaces or what really??)
Can work around this for now, but would like to know how to get the place command working with decent size Word Docs( docx for word 2010 if that matters).
    Thanks for any help.

It turned out that for at least one particular document the OP had used some blank paragraphs as spacers at the start of the text, and that the style assigned to the second paragraph used a combination of left and right paragraph indents that was more than the width of the document page, sending the entire document (except for the empty first paragraph) into overset. I can't say for sure, but I think the Word styles might have been mapped to ID styles because I found no trace of the indents in the Word file itself, only in the ID document, and I had no trouble placing that Word file in my own ID test document. I did have some trouble placing another .docx file supplied by the OP in CS4, but not in later versions, and conversion to .doc solved that problem.

  • Robohelp 9 not working with Word 2010 on Windows 7

I have installed Robohelp 9 on my Windows 7 machine that has MS Office 2010 already installed on it.
I have installed the Robohelp 9.0.2 update. I start Robohelp 9 for Word and create a new Winhelp 4 project.
I give it a name and click Finish. I get an error message that says "Robohelp can not open docx files in the current word version"
I click OK and it launches the template in word and gives me a macro error that saya "Compile error in hidden module AutoOpen. This error commonly occurs when code is incompatible with the version, platform, architecture of this application"
When I close the Word document, I get an error about hidden module AutoClose. It's like there is something wrong with the template.
NOTE: I previously had Robohelp 8 installed, but uninstalled and made sure that every occurence of robohelp.dot was gone.
Shouldn't Robohelp 9 be creating a .dotx for Office 2010?
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help,
    George

    Hi George,
I note the line in your original post :-
"NOTE: I previously had Robohelp 8 installed, but uninstalled and made sure that every occurence of robohelp.dot was gone."
I think that is your problem.  You have deleted the Robohelp.DOT from the templates directory.  Although you are using Office 2010 or 2007  Robohelp still insists on using an Office 2003 or earlier format template in *.DOT format.  You need to have a Robohelp.dOT template for the program to work.  May I syggest a re-install, leave the robohelp.DOT in place as it is instaled and see what happens ?
I posted an issue  A couple of weeks ago questioning why Robohelp does not use DOTX or DOTM format templates as per Office 2010 and Peter Grainge has asked adobe on my behalf... yet to see a reply.
My issue related to potemntial incosistency in bult output (Corruption) and question whether that was caused bt the different formats of the template ie:- a 2003 format templat in documents saved in 2010 or 2007 format. As others have stated in the past word starts up in 'Compatribility' mode when using the *.DOT format template that I have found may be linked to some output and build issues ?
    Good luck.

  • How to Install Microsoft Word Add-in in Windows Svr 2008 R2 64bit with Word 2010 32 bit

I developed Microsoft Word Add-In for 32 bit systems which is working fine. Now i want to install the same on Win Svr 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit with 32 bit Microsoft Word installed. What changes do i need to do in my project and installer.
Desired Target: Win Svr 2008 R2 64 bit with Word 2010 32 bit
    Working/Development/Testing PC: Win 7 32 bit with Word 2010 32 bit
    Tried Steps
Changed project and installer target to x64
When i give target location in Application folder [ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer]\Office14\ADDINS\ the Add-In automatically installs in C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Office14\ADDINS\ and registry is also updated as required but when word is started it tries to
load Add-In in location C:\ProgramFiles\Office14\ADDINS\ whereas files are placed in x86 ProgramFiles because word too is 32 bit.
note: Setup of server (Win08r2 64 bit with 2010 Word 32 bit) cannot be changed as it is running in production.
please guide how do i solve the issue.

I rebuilt the solution in .Net 3.5 and somehow it solved the problem on the clients.
For second query As Microsoft Word 32 bit is installed on Win Server 08 r2 64Bit so i needed a target code for 32 bit which worked. 64 bit solution was not required as quoted by
    Eugene Astafiev
    earlier. Thanks for your support.

  • Lines in shaded table cells do not render properly in pdf created in Word 2010

When creating a pdf with shaded table cells using MS Word 2010; the black lines in the shaded table cells do not show up when looking at the page at a fit page view (anything under  around 60%). They print, they are there when I zoom in, but will not show up if you zoom out.
I read a forum post in Adobe here which gave some really logical suggestions, but they didn't seem to work for everyone or the level of effort was not what i can put into it. I also tried some of those and variations of those; but they didn't seem to work.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/305508
Did anyone come up with a solution? Some people were saying it's a bug in pdf software, if that is the case, has anyone heard of a resolution?
I'm using Windows 7 and word 2010 btw, to create the pdf.
    Thanks!!

Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

  • Word 2010 (64-bit on Win7 64-bit) crashes crashes on opening any document by double-click.

Sad to have to open repeat thread, but I'm having the same problem that Maurice Reed was having (that thread is now locked, although I didn't see any solution there).
I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 (64) and Office 2010 (64). Any time I double-click on a document to open it (that is, any time I open a document from Windows Explorer), Word 2010 crashes.
This includes situations where Word 2010 is already running and I open a doc or docx from Windows.
This also happens with NEWLY CREATED documents. I tested this by opening Word and creating and saving a brand new document. Opening that doc (docx) from Windows triggers this crash.
I tried deleting the Normal.dot as was suggested in other threads.
Also tried installing updates and hotfix from Microsoft. No luck.
I'm curious as to why Maurice's thread was locked when there didn't appear to be any resolution to it.
I'm stunned that such a widespread problem would go without a patch, hotfix or resolution for so many months. Am I missing something? I've been researching this for about a month off and on now. Have yet to see an actual fix. On the other hand, I've heard
about this problem from others even before it happened to me.
What's going on up there? Where are Bartley & Jeanne when we need them. ;D
        - Dave F.

    Hi Dave,
Maurice's thread was locked because he is using Office 2010 Beta, and his post is in the forum for Office Beta, since the Beta is past due, the whole forum is locked.
Let's go back to your question.
Have you installed the Office 2010 Service Pack 1? The service pack fixes many issues, you should try if you haven't.
    Download
the Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 64-bit package now.
I may to metion is that all I know the Office 2010 64-bit will work smoothly with Windows 7 64-bit, cause I'm using it for my daily work.
So, the problem you met with mostly caused by the 3rd-party add-ins/services.
Have you tried to open the document by holding the Ctrl key? This will open the document in safe mode, if you are able to do so, this will help us to narrow down the root cause.
If it will crash even when you start it in safe mode, let's try to run a clean boot to check this issue. In a clean boot, lots of service will be disabled, if we wouldn't get problem in a clean boot, then we can enable the service little by little, then
we can find out which service might cause this issue.
For a detail instruction, you can refer to this kb:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Let me know the result, any questions, feel free to let me know.

  • Excel 2010 temp Files do not delete on network share automatically when closed *Word 2010 do!*

    Hi,
saw this post in similar Versions but never with a "cool solution" :)
We got NetApp 2050 as Filer in a Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain with Windows 7 Clients and Office 2010 Pro Plus, all up to date with WSUS.
If I open an Excel 2010 sheet on the Netapp Share or a Share on the Domain Controller and close it, it do not delte the temp file.
    Same to PowerPoint 2010.
But with Word 2010, this works!
Therefor I don't think, this will be the NTFS permissions or Network issues.
We also got VMware Clients with Windows 7 and Office 2010. There the issue does not occure!!!
May be something in Group Policies? Could it be some Microsoft Updates?
I'm very interested in your opinions...
    Best regards...

    Hi,
As far as I know, the issue usually caused by the anti-virus actively scanning Excel files (XLS, XLSX, or XLSM files). Please try to make the anti-virus to not actively scan Excel files.
Then, if you are using Kaspersky 2009, I recommend we try the below method:
Go to Run>Regedit>Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\KLIF\Parameters>Create the key  NonCachedIo (Type: Dword Value:1)
Next, some other customer solved the issue by turning off the index with the effected folders.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • Mangal Fonts and Tunga Fonts in (MS Home and Student 2010) Word 2010 not getting converted into PDF

Why do I get a totally blank PDF file whenever I try to convert any (Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, Version: 14.0.6029.1000) Word document file containing either Mangal Fonts (Hindi) and Tunga Fonts (Kannada) into a PDF file (by using Adobe Acrobat X Standard - English, Version: 10.1.4, Program File Size: 1790 MB, Complete/Full Version) after formatting and reinstalling all the necessary software / softwares (Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and Windows XP Service Pack 3, Version: 20080414-031525, Program File Size: 9.08 MB)?

Any Word 2010 document file that has been converted into any PDF File unfortunately does not show either the Mangal (Hindi) Fonts or the Tunga (Kannada) Fonts.
The PDF file will unfortunately become/remain totally/fully/completely blank.
When I convert an Excel Workbook having the Tunga Fonts (Kannada) to/into a PDF File, some of the Tunga fonts in the PDF file are legible and some are unfortunately illegible (get superimposed / overwritten on each other).
Perhaps I may get the same result if I try to convert an Excel Workbook having the Mangal Fonts (Hindi) to/into a PDF File with some Mangal fonts being/becoming legible and the rest being/becoming illegible (getting superimposed / overwritten on each other).

My chronological sequence of steps to create a Word 2010 Document or an Excel 2010 Workbook:
I first create a Word Document File or an Excel Workbook File and save it by giving an appropriate file name.
Then I right click on the closed Word Document File or the Excel Workbook File in the file folder and convert it into a PDF by retaining the same/original file name.
The font list of Microsoft Word 2010 claims/says/states that both Mangal and Tunga are True Type fonts and also that these fonts will/would be used on both printer and screen.
In case if there is any text content in English in the beginning it will get converted into PDF only till/until either a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts.
The remaining English text content does not get converted into/to PDF the moment a Mangal(Hindi)/Tunga(Kannada) Font starts. If the entire matter is purely (100 per cent) in English text it will fully / completely / totally get converted into a PDF file without any problem.
