Starting my Zen Mi

Hi, I use my Zen Micro for some months but now i got a problem I cant solve:- It freezes sometimes but i normally fix it to start the MP3 again or connect it to my computer.- It freezes today before even some text was in my screen, just turned it off, later I tried to start it again but it even didnt light up (and i have enough battery). When i connected it to my PC i even didnt do anything... It doenst start at all anymore. Can someone help me?(sorry for my bad english)

plug your player into your computer via the usb port--then the display on the creative program will switch to represent what's on your micro, which at this point will be nothing since you have no songs on it. You should have a list of your pc songs to the right of that---highlight the songs you want to add (you may not have to do this the first time since all the songs are new), then click the arrow that points left (in other words telling the software to 'copy' the songs from the list on the right to the one on the left, which?represents your micro.)Message Edited by ds2 on 03-30-2006:4 AM

• Problem with Starting Up Zen To

I have been having problems starting up my Zen Touch (ZT) when I press the START button on the side. I often have to press it multiple times, and sometimes it refuses to start up at all! This occurs even when the battery level is >30%.
There doesn't seem to be a problem when I start the ZT by connecting it to a PC via the USB cable. There also is no problem with shutting down (by pressing the START button).
Has anybody else had this problem?
Thanks

I have found that sometime my "hold" button is not completely "off", and I have to make sure the button is completely in the "unhold" position.

• Problems Starting Up: Zen Vision M mp3 player

I have a Zen Vision M mp3 player (30gb) and for quite some time now I have had a problem with it starting up. It takes literally 0 minutes for it to start up, all the while it's loading on the Zen start screen. Once that happens and it turns off again and I use it shortly after (say after my class gets out an hour later) it has no problem starting up at all. But by the time I use it again the next day (or any substantial amount of time later) it has the same problem.
Can anyone tell me if there's a way to fix this problem? I've had this mp3 player for years and it has been very good to me.. I know I could just get a new one but otherwise it's in great condition still!!!

Have you tried going into the Recovery menu and doing a Clean Up?
To get into the Recovery menu, press the Reset button and turn on the player at the same time. The Rest button is in the hole at the bottom of the player, not the hole on the side.
You won't lose any data when selecting Clean Up. You may lose your bookmarks.

• Creative Zen V PLUS firmware fail

Creative Zen V Plus
S/No. C6PF2072634R02752T
DAP-FL0040
I have experinced, some problem during applying newest firmware. I haVe downloaded all new updates. Then I started Creative ZEN V Plus Firmware .0.03__ and ther was a problem.. On my player`s screen was displayed updating firmware. And there was displaying for a couple hour. But. At the end of applying of firmware. The message was updatinf firmware failure. Then I repeated for several times. And Againg was the same message.
Then I detached player from my PC. And from that time my player is not responding..
I tried to do this again. But my player is not functioning welll. When I tur it On the display is showing just Creative logo, and then it is (self) turned off.
Now player cant be recognised by computer. But when I connect my Zen V Plus, it is recognised as STMP3600 device , and is trying to install new driver.
Can you Help me.
I bought my Creative Zen V Plus in miami I September this year. I`m Living in Serbia. Europe.
Sincerely yours,
Dejan Djordjevic
P.S. I`v tried to reset player, and to reset frimware according to your instruction in your Knowledge database. But can`t help me.

Yes I've got a TEAC MP-244 and I wanted to upgrade the firmware.
Tghe tool that was sent me by a TEAC support member worked; but it made my player to be a "STMP3600" and Windows XP wanted to have a driver.
I looked into the folder but the files there were corrupt.
The I downloaded the older firmware from the TEAC support website and - god thanks - the files in this packed folder worked. That means that the STMP3600 was recognized and a new device - in German: Player-Wiederherstellungskonsole (Englisgh sthg. like that: Device to recover the player?) - was created. Then I could upgrade the firmware successfully.
Maybe that's a help for you all guys.
Kinds gegards,
Marcel S.
PS: Excuse my bad English. ;-)

• FIX: Zen Micro Installer Error - "DemoShield Player has encountered an error.

I just thought I'd post a solution to a problem I was having with the Zen Micro Explorer software installation because it might help someone else. Also, this forum is well indexed by search engines so it will be easy for people to find. It took me well over an hour to track this down.
After starting the Zen Micro Explorer Installer CD, a full screen splash is shown of the creative logo and then DemoShield is started for the software install. It shows an intro screen where you must click 'Next,' on clicking next the DemoShield program was crashing with the generic Windows error "DemoShield encountered an error..." The problem appears to be a software conflict between DemoShield and Apple's QuickTime (any version as far as I know). Disabling the QuickTime startup entry does not help, installing in Safe Mode does not help and exiting any instance of QT in the system tray does not help either.
To fix the problem you must un-install the QuickTime software from your computer by going through the Add/Remove Programs screen in the Control Panel. Once un-installed, run the Creative installer CD again, this time it will run correctly. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install.
<i>Please note that if you have installed iTunes on your system it will not run while QuickTime is uninstalled, this is normal. Re-installation of QuickTime is covered later in this post.</i>
When you have completed the install and restarted your computer you can re-install QuickTime. At the time of writing (4th Sept 2005) QuickTime and iTunes are bundled in one download package so you must download both. You can <a href='http://www.apple.com/QuickTime/download/' target=_blank>get the bundle here. Let it download and run the installer. If you already have iTunes installed, the installer will 'Repair' your installation, detecting that QT is missing it will re-install. If you do not have iTunes the installer will installer iTunes and QuickTime.
When you have completed the QuickTime+iTunes install you have got around the DemoShield issue. I hope this of use to anybody with a similar problem.Message Edited by PhilM on 09-5-2005 02:30 AM

Hi Jeremy,
I knew it was an issue with QuickTime because I clicked on 'Send Error Report' on the error message and it took me to <a href='http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=0b73e24-7433-4ee-ac4c-49956d08c85c&SID=623' target=_blank>this page. It states "An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in QuickTime Player. This software was created by Apple Computer, Inc.."
My QuickTime version is 7.0.2. My operating system is WIndows XP Home (Athlon 64; 52Mb RAM)
Eventually I just tried uninstalling QuickTime and it wroked after I did that. Some screenshots: <a href='http://www.phantomphil.co.uk/ZM/' target=_blank>Click
The contents of my disk.id file reads:
Creative Zen Micro
ZENM-CDSD-W-LB
Hope this hel
ps.

• Zen Touch Gets The Sh

New Zen 20gb? what is this? oo la la you can put stickers on it, what is this? Creative Stick to just afew players instead of making a bunch of others. Meet the demands of the Curent players such as Zen Touch Firmware?! Hmm ya that would be an idea! I find it had to believe that since Q no one has talked about it and no new news has been published? What that tells me is that The Zen Touch got the shaft. Why is creative doing this? Obviously they are not thinking clearly. Dont start new things without finishing what has already been started. Zen Touch=Good Player why creative has semi-abbonded it beats me.

Firstly, both these players are getting updates (Touch and Xtra).
The original date of November 2004 was given by Microsoft, so you have to wonder if this was correct anyway. No date came from Creative to back this up.
The second date of end of Q was given by Creative, and presumably other pressures caused it to slip, by quite a lot.
It's the old problem of giving information vs. not giving it. It's been discussed in other threads, but if Creative give a date and it slips some people get annoyed. If they remain completely tight lipped about an update then other people think they aren't any future updates and say the player has been abandoned etc. I guess no-one realises that the two complaining camps are nothing new. I saw the same thing over the last 4 years, right back to the NJB, which arguably had more updates than any of the players to-date.
My personal opinion is that I buy the player as it is, and except for major bugs, I don't *expect* updates. If they do come out though, and have new features (and no new bugs) all is good and it encourages me to stick with the company I bought the player from.
I still think it would be good if Creative were more frank about the updates. So rather than giving us wooly dates for the upcoming Touch/Xtra firmware (and others) they tried to give us a week by week update. Honestly it doesn't do much harm, at least above and beyond what's been done already in PR terms. Unfortunately a lot of the tight lippedness comes down to company confidentiality worries, whether warranted or not (I saw the same thing when working on the "inside" of a large software company).

• Slow start of app from Windows-Share

Hi,
i have an ZFD-App which has to start an *.EXE from a Windows-Server. The command ist like \\winserver\icd\path\boxes.exe When I start this ZEN-App I have to wait longer than 30 seconds before I can see a logon-windows of this program. If I make a good old local link on my WinXP-desktop and I start this I see the logon-windows after only 2 seconds. This is e very big difference.
I tested this scenario with another EXE from another windows-share, it's the same problem.
Any suggestions?

Well, if the user/workstation isn't authenticated to your windows box before
the app starts, its going to have different timeout issues (I'm not sure how
you have the app assocated).
My suggestion: copy the exe to a location that the user/workstation already
has rights to. Not sure why you have to run the app from a server the user
doesn't have rights to already.
You might be able to build in the authentication prompt into your app with a
pre-launch script (i.e. net use )

• Zen micro and getting Zen Media Player to recognize

I went back to firmware .0.03 and reinstalled the Zen software after getting no where with firmware that works with MS media player.
I noticed two things.
the device installs differnently in the hardware profile between the two firmware versions
2 If I start the Zen media player and then connect my Zen Micro things work ok. If I connect my Zen Micro and then activate Zen media player things are hit and miss on detecting the Micro.
This just me or have others seen the same thing?Message Edited by summersr on 03-08-2005 03:38 AMMessage Edited by summersr on 03-08-2005 03:39 AM

Just a thought
Might try re-installing the software from the Zen disk (select repair option).
I noticed that it takes an extremely long time to install all of the parts and pieces and if you exit before it finishes you do not have all of the things the Zen needs to function.

• Zen micro photo doesn't st

Hi,
when i started my zen micro photo the logo creative appear and the screen didn't change anymore. I Try to shut it down but all the button aren't responding. I plug it to my computer nothing change. Then I remove the batterie now the screen is black and I can't start it.
What should I do?

Hey everyone,
For some strange reason, my MP3 player refuses to recover the music that I had on there ( at least 900 tracks with a few photos ). I've gone to Recovery Mode and cleaned it up three times. The first two times ended with a reboot to make sure everything would go along swimmingly.
However, before, my ZEN decided to freeze up on me so I had no choice but to remove the battery and let it re-build the library. After that, the infuriating "Low Battery" sign went on ( even after I let it charge for literally *hours* on end, but that's another problem ). I'm thinking that had something to do with my problem.
But here's the strange part: when I plug it in into my computer, it recognizes it, and the same amount of MB is still remaining, meaning, there is something in there but it's doesn't show up.
Sounds like your database is corruptor the dri've itself is failing & you'll need to format the drive to be able to use the player. Unfortunately you won't be able to recover what's on the player. If you have the wallcharger use it to charge the battery. If that battery is the battery is more than 3yrs. old I would recommend purchasing a new one as the life span is about to that limit. The MicroPhoto will run off AC power without a battery.

• ZEN: I can't play/see mp3 files that I CAN play in Win

A few albums I have uploaded to my ZEN aren't visible in the player itself.
Example: I upload 5 albums of band X. When I browse they are visible but when I start my ZEN and want to play only 3 albums are visible. As for as I know they are normal mp3 files because I can play them with Winamp. What's the problem?

The album photos are just the originals; there are no special copies in the album--it's just a list. Select the photos in the album, then go to File>Export as New Files and send the new copies where you want them.

• Reformatting-Zen Micro gets st

I have had to start my Zen Mirco in safety mode as it will not start up I have tried the disk cleanup, restore, reformat but it just seems to get stuck at the point after. It does nothing so then I have to reboot it in safe mode and then the same thing. How can I get past this? Also I keep getting that error when I plug it in to my pc that it does not recognize my Zen. I do have all the latest firmware and drivers installed which it was working fine until my Zen froze up. Anyone have any suggestions? I think I have gotten this thing to properly work for a total of 3 days now since I got it 2 weeks ago.

As it's a recent purchase, if you bought it from a local shop you might want to return it there. Even with an Internet retailer you can find out first how long it will take to return it via them. Via Creative it should take approximately 2 weeks, once they receive it.

• Using the Zen Vision in a car = instant battery dra

I often use my Zen in my car, connected to an FM transmitter which in turn is plugged into the cigarette lighter. Often, my Zen will be at about half charge when I exit the vehicle, and when I return and start the car, then start the Zen, I'll get a 'battery low' message and it won't play. I haven't really run the battery down when not in the car, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with my battery, or the way the zen works in the car (is possible that the headphone jack can be leeching power out when the car's off or just starting?)

I've never heard of that being possible. A possible scenario is the battery getting really cold, do you li've in a cold climate where the battery could get cold while sitting in the car? That would make it read at a lower charge.
A good way to test this would be to try unplugging the headphone jack when you leave the car and see if it changes, and try bringing it inside another time to see if temperature makes a difference.
Good luck in narrowing down the problem!

To go into Recovery Mode
Take out the battery, press and hold the ON/LOCK button in the ON position and put back the battery back.
Wait until Recovery Mode appears on the display
You have the following options
Clean Up - (To rearrange your stored data)
Format All - (To format and remove all data)
Reload Firmware - (Reloads your player's operating system - Do not choose this option unless you have downloaded a firmware update from the Creative website)
