Starting New.... advice welcomed
So I just posted about more external HD woes(MyBooks).
I am in the process of revamping my set up. I will be purchasing a new Mac Pro net month and External drives as well. With the new internal capacities I wanted to create a new workflow. My thoughts are....
a. Max out the internal to 3TB and using the Mac as the working drive and offload MediaManager backups to externals as projects progress.Once a project is complete send it out to an external in final form and wipe the internal to start again.
b.Try the new Gtech Raid1 750gig FW800 as the work drive and use the Mac Internal as my Media Manager backup. Than maybe once a drive is full offlaod to a external and wipe the internal to start over.
I work in SD and HD using the HVX and DVX so projects vary on speed and backup needs. My projects range from 120gig-320gig per project. Roughly 2-3 projects are running at the same time.

I would go with option A, your internals are always gonna be faster than FW, so with your internals you should never have a speed problem
You will have 4 drives so you could do something like this
1 - Boot Drive
2 - Media Drive
3 - Media Drive
4 - Backup Drive
Then occassionally you can off-load to an external, or even better, just pull the internals, put them on a shelf and replace them, this is a lot cheaper than buying externals to archve with.

Starting new task inside an Update Task
Hi guys,
I need an expert opinion for a problem I'm facing at the moment.
The requirement is this: I need to trigger a function module during the update task of a material document.
This function module however should not slow down the posting of the document, so it must not be in the same LUW, but in a separate task.
My question is: does it work to call a function module with STARTING NEW TASK inside an UPDATE TASK (for example a user exit) and if it does work, what's your opinion on it? Is if safe? Does it come with problems? According to the SAP documentation, STARTING NEW TASK does not trigger a COMMIT when it's called inside an update task.
The alternative would be to trigger a work flow, but that's much more work.
Any input is welcome.

Just to reiterate this aRFC call triggers an implicit database commit. So the OP is partially correct
Klaus Kronawetter we have 2 things which we need to consider -
Asynchronous RFC triggers a database commit in the calling program.
Any database commits or database rollbacks that occur within the update task cancel the update.
Simply put, as per SAP documentation, you cannot use aRFC within an update task.

I-Pod stopped working - some advice welcome
Hi there
My 8GB i-pod nano stopped working this morning.
When i went to switch it on nothing happened (i.e screen did not light up and no music), i only got keypad tones.
I tried the usual reset etc and still nothing now not even keypad tones. I have tried plugging it to power in as well with no luck.
This is my second i-pod of this type since May 2008.
Unfortunately the warranty expired in April '09 so if I send this in to Apple for repair it is going to cost me (how much i cannot even guess.
Any advice welcome - i am wondering whether i would just be better buying a new i-pod although this would make it my Third in less than two years!

Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod. For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:

Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3 -

which means - fixed length 4,6 and && starts new recordset.
I need to get structure like:

Let's say, I can add && on the beginning of the file and other "lite" changes... but structure stays the same...
so, how to start new recordset? with which conversion parameter? for items it is clear...

Starting new database LUW inside ABAP during IDoc posting
Hi all,
During posting of an inbound IDoc, I am trying to update my Z-table in user-exit. I want to do it regardless of the result of IDoc posting. The problem is: if IDoc posted successfully - table is updated because COMMIT WORK is called at the end of the posting, however, if IDoc not posted - ROLLBACK WORK is called and table is not updated. So, my aim now is to commit the update of Z-table in any case, but it is the only thing that should be committed - no other prior update FMu2019s should be committed.

Author of this thread says that he solved a problem by means of RFC and STARTING NEW TASK. But ABAP help says
that starting asynchronous RFC triggers immediately a database commit in the calling program (which is unacceptable because all prior update FMu2019s will be committed ). I've checked and it is really the case.
From my point of view SET UPDATE TASK LOCAL with COMMIT WORK should work in such kind of tasks, but in case of IDoc processing the whole process runs in a local update (see SET UPDATE TASK LOCAL in FM 'IDOC_INPUT'), so writing once again SET UPDATE TASK LOCAL has no effect.
I tested SUBMIT statement as well. It had no effect and then I found out from ABAP help that SUBMIT ... AND RETURN starts new SAP LUW, but NOT a DB LUW. That is if I update my Z-table in the program called by SUBMIT - all ROLLBACK statements still affect my Z-table update.
Is there any simple solution? Please suggest.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, when I hit either apostrophe or quotation key in Apple Mail, that starts new paragraph like I am hitting the return/enter key right next to the key I am hitting.
I've eliminated the possibility that I suffer from fat finger syndrome by ruling out the issue in other apps like Pages/Word (apostrophe/quotation works fine). This is only happening in Apple Mail. Example: [ Can't ] appears as [ Can' ] with [ t ] as the start of a new paragraph. I use an Apple wireless keyboard, so I also tried using an Apple keyboard connected by USB port. Still have the same issue in Apple Mail, but not in other apps.
Any idea what this is?Update.
This only happens when I am typing above my signature information or replying to an email when the body of the email I am responding to included. Does not happen when I am typing a blank email.

FrameMaker 11 on "Start New, Linked Web Page" in HTML setup
FrameMaker 11 doesn't let me use certain paragraph tags to save certain FM files into separate HTML files. After I checked the box "Start New, Linked Web Page", that item has a Y in the Reference Pages for new web page, but it was being switched back to N during the process of Save As HTML, right in front me. It worked for some other Paragraph Tags, however. Would someone please tell what I missed? Thanks!!
That's ok. I had the work-around by using the paragraph tag that worked,
so it's working now, although I'm still puzzled about the other tag.

During Import, scene breaks are not starting new clip.
Imovie HD: When importing from my camcorder (Mini DV) scene breaks are not starting new clips. The video is going into one clip which I then have to manually split each scene into individual clips before editing.
My preferences are set to: Import/Start a new clip at each scene break=ON..
The last time I used Imovie4, this same thing occurred. Prior to that, in Imovie4, it worked as advertised.
Could it be my camera settings?? Panasonic PV-DV910Problem solved.
I normally do not have the date and time displayed in the camera's viewfinder. So, I didn't realize that the date/time had been reset to 1998 and not active. After setting to date/time to the present, NEW recording - when imported - was being split into individual clips at the scene breaks.
However the previously recorded video would not.
My punishment for my lapse is to manually do the "split". But I am a much wiser videographer.
