Starting New Build with 990FXA-GD65

I received my 990FXA-GD65 Motherboard.
Waiting for delivery of the CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb.
Memory: AMD Entertainment Edition 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333.
Heatsink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus.
Question 1. On the 990FXA-GD65 motherboard there is a 4/8pin power connector (JPWR2). My power supply has both 4 & 8. which should i use?
Question 2: The board has an ATX 6-pin Power Connector (PWRCONN1) for the Graphics Card. My GeForce 8800GT card has a 6pin connector attached to it. Should i plug the power supply connector into the mainboard, graphic card, or both?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
This is a build in progress and i plan on upgrading the graphic card and a few other things.

  • New build with big bang x-power board. Any help welcome and appreciated.

Started new build with big bang x-power board, i7 960 processor, 3 x 4gb mushkin cl7 ram and imation m-class 128gb solid state drive running Windows 7 ultimate x64. This particular SSD is probably just temporary. Since I don't have the SSD I really want (yet) and this 1 was given to me at no cost, by a friend who really hated it, I thought it would suit my current needs. The specs & reviews were not encouraging, but they were not exactly "terrible" either.
Anyway, I was unable to install the OS on the Imation drive, while connected to a sata2 port. Got repeat bsod despite many variations in settings, including fail safe defaults. After clearing cmos and switching to a sata3 port, I got it to install no problem after putting settings back to cpu voltge: 1.35, dram voltage: 1.65, mode: AHCI and all others: default with only 1 RAM module seated.
So... I think this may be a BIOS issue and was hoping someone could point me to the most recent BIOS version available for me to update my BBXP board. I believe v1.6 is what i'm looking for, unless my info is outdated. Since my plan is ultimately to run the OS from an SSD using a sata2 port, I definitely want to resolve this, and hopefully any other issues with the v1.0 BIOS that I just haven't encountered yet.

Thanks again HU16E, and sorry for any confusion and/or lack of information. I'm guess you can tell i'm still new at this, but I'll try to do better with specifics in the future   -please forgive me.
SSD = Solid State Drive. The brand of this particular solid state drive is "Imation" and the series is "M-Class." It is a sataII device that would not install the OS while connected to any of the sataII ports on the board. Initial attempt was made with all settings on auto. When that didn't work, I adjusted voltages because it seemes unstable with repeat freezes and restarts. The install seemed to start ok with adjusted voltages but still would not complete.
I then moved the sataII drive to a sataIII (marvell) port, put all settings back on auto and the install went further (loaded files, copied files, expanded files, etc) but would froze several times during windows start up attempt. I then changed cpu & dram voltages back to the adjusted values I tried when the drive was connected to the sataII port and everything worked fine. Tested under load for 4 hours and no problems of any kind. Its still working now. I do however suspect I will have many more problems when I move the solid state back to a sataII port, or when I add my other Hard Disk Drives.
BIOS version showed: 1.0.0 but i can check again to assure I didn't misread anything in my haste. If i'm mistaken, I will post the correction. Hope I answered everything the way you wanted & didn't just make matters worse and more confusing  lol.  thanks for the link as well, i'll check on it asap

  • New build with MSI 970A-G45 won't load OS or live CD

    Motherboard: MSI 970A-G45 AM3+ AMD 970
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3 Ghz Socket AM3
    RAM: G.Skill Sniper Series 2x4GB DDR3 1866, Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
Video Card (original): ASUS ENGTX550 TI DC/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Video Card (operational): XFX 7600 GT
System HD: Runcore 64GB Sata II SSD
Optical Drive: LITE-ON SATA DVD-RW drive
I just finished building a new upgrade build into an existing case with an existing PSU and hard drives/optical drive. Originally the system wouldn't power on at all, which I traced to the new video card (something to do with grounding or an inadequate power supply maybe?), but in any case I got past that for the moment with my old video card. The system will power on and get to the BIOS screen. I can enter the BIOS and everything looks fine: all my drives are detected, the RAM is present, the CPU looks correct. However, when I go to actually load an operating system, it never loads. After the BIOS screen I just get a blank screen with a white blinking cursor in the upper-left corner, and this never goes away (I've tried leaving it for 10 minutes or more).
Originally I was trying to boot from the mentioned SSD which has both Ubuntu 11.04 and Windows 7 64-bit partitions installed with GRUB2 to load them. This didn't load, so I tried an Ubuntu 11.04 live CD in my DVD-ROM drive. That didn't work, so I tried the same CD in an external USB CD-ROM drive in case it was a problem with the SATA controller/connectors. Still the same behavior. So I tried a memtest86+ CD in both drives. Still the same behavior. For each of the tests after the first I explicitly opened the boot menu with F11 at the BIOS screen and selected the device I wanted to try.
At this point I've already tried exchanging the memory I had originally bought with the memory I listed above, since the old memory I realized after I bought it was labelled as "Intel i5/i7 compatible" and the new memory is on the MSI support list for this motherboard model. Any thoughts on where to go next? My next thought was to RMA the motherboard but I feel like I'm flying blind here. I've never see a new build get stuck at this point in the boot process.

OK posting from Ubuntu on my now-working build!!
So, after two weeks of messing around with the CPU, RAM, video card, etc., I finally have the thought that the one thing I haven't tried yet is the old SATA expansion PCI card that I put in early on at the bottom of the motherboard underneath the video card (out of direct sight, out of mind apparently), for when I try to connect all 7 of my SATA devices. I tried pulling that out - presto, it boots. Retried a couple of times for proof, keeps booting correctly. It can even load memtest86+ off a CD. Put the PCI card back in - still boots. Reconnected the sata drive - no boot. Remembered that this particular PCI card has two SATA ports and one is for RAID of some kind, tried the other port - now it boots. The drive connected to the card is also detected by the OS.
In conclusion, it was something entirely different from what I was working on, as it usually is.
I'm going to get to work connecting everything back up, getting the new video card working, etc. I suspect I'll be back at least to read when I try to get my memory working at 1866 (different forum I know). Thanks to those who responded for the pointers.

  • Starting new task with background

If I execute my program in background and my program is have a CALL FUNCTION func STARTING NEW TASK task
My question is a new task using dialog word process and background work process ?
    Thank.

    SAP says
RFC calls with CALL FUNCTION are processed in work processes of type DIALOG
So for calling it in different work process you need to use addtions

  • New Build with P965 Platinum - fan connections

Question on the PWRFAN1 fan connection: Can I plug any fan into this? I was thinking of using it for the Video Card fan connection. I'm starting the build and was thinking about doing away with the Zalman cooler fan control as well as not pulling fan power from the PCI-E Power connection. There is also a Northbridge fan connection that's not being used. Can I use this one?

Well, here is the problem. The Zalman VF900 fan that I installed onto the video card has a different plug than the card. So I either hace to change the plug or plug it in somewhere else. The Zalman has the standard 3 pin fan connector, so I figure I could plug it into the Northbridge fan connection or directly to one of the PS power connections. Just want to make sure this would be a problem. Still would like to know that the PWRFAN1 connection is for as it's not indicated in the manual.

  • Start new document with view at 100%?

Every time I start Pages a new document is zoomed at 125%. I created a template that I use all the time & set the view zoomed at 100% before I saved it.
But every time I create new blank document (or new document from my template) it's zoomed at 125%.
Is it possible to set it so that a new blank document, or a new one from my template starts up at 100%?

You can set the default zoom for new documents & those opened from templates in Pages > Preferences in Pages 2 & 3. Pages 1/iWork '05 does not have this setting.

  • New builder with a problem-MSI FM2-A85XA-G65-Corsair400R Case

I am a first time builder and I am having a bit of a problem with the front panel connections. My mother board came with adapters for the JFP1 and JFP2 on the MOBO so I can connect to the adapters and then to the motherboard.
My motherboard manual said most of the front panel connectors would connect to JFP1.
    Connected to the JFP1
    HDDLED
    Power Switch
    Reset Switch
The adapter has left 2 pins FP PWR/SLP
I have left 2 single wires +PLED and a -PLED
    The JFP2 has a S LED and a PLED
I am a bit lost here these are the last of the wires I need to connect and it doesn't seem very intuitive to me at all. I might have to post pictures because my motherboard manual is confusing me on this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    MSI FM2-A85XA-G65 is the motherboard.

    Quote from: NewGuy2 on 08-May-13, 10:51:15
Thanks for the help.  Why wouldn't the m connector have it labeled PLED?  They label it FP PWR/SLP.  The manual clearly shows pins 2 and 4 I got that.  The labeling on the m connector through me off.
I see that now going thru a bag I have with some of those M-connectors. Those are the 2 pins to use for the PLED. If the LED doesn't light up connected one way on those pins then simply reverse the 2 wires and then it will light up when power is on. If you connect them the wrong way 1st time around and it doesn't light up it won't damage anything by the way.

  • New Build with Operating System upgrade from ME to XP

I am going to inbark on my first system build.  THe MSI K8N Neo4 Platinium is highly recommended.  I am not going to do a complete rebuild.  I am just going to keep my newest hardward from my old system.  My old processer a P3 933mhz along with moboard is at the core of my upgrade.  I noticed on the K8N page that the board does not support ME.  My old system (Gateway) shipped with ME for which I purchased the XP upgrade.  I understand that the XP upgrade disk has the full operating system on it and all I have to do is put the ME disk in when the XP disk asks for previous operating system.  Will this board be able to recognize the ME disk so that it will pass muster with the XP upgrade disk?

Quote from: Edddd on 02-July-05, 21:15:37
Thank you both for the prompt reply, what are your thoughts about the K8N Neo4 Platinium mobo? Is it as good as Tom's Hardware says it is? I am planning on intalling an AMD Athlon 64 3700 San Diego on it. I am not a real power gamer. I just want something that will antincipate the future. My current rig, P3 933mhz has lasted me for 5 years. Thanks
The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum is a very stable board, has a good range of features, is highly overclockable and is just great. I think mine is great so far and I suggest you buy a decent power supply with 22A - 24A minimum on the +12V rail to make sure it lasts and worls 100% correctly.
If you need any more help just ask!

  • 990FXA-GD65 Power Supply Help

Hi there, I am currently looking to build a new computer, though I am trying to make sure before ordering the parts that my power supply will work.
I know that the power supplies listed under the motherboards tested section on it's information page is probably the best way to confirm, though I was curious if someone may be able to give me a hand as I would not like to buy a new power supply if the one I have is actually sufficient.  I have done some online calculations to see if the wattage is enough, and it has come back with positive results, though I am not sure if the ampage will be enough for what I am wanting to run.
Here is a list of the current parts that I am looking to run in the new system:
    MSI 990FXA-GD65
    MSI Nvidia Geforce 9800G2 1gb 800 MHz
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500gb HDD
    Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/8G 8gb Ram
The power supply that I am looking to use is the TR2 RX-850 ATX 12V 2.2 14cm Fan.
    +3.3v/30A
    +5v/28A
    +12v/18A
    -12v/0.8A
    +5vsb/3A
the +3.3v and +5v have a combined max wattage of 180W
the +12V's have a combined max wattage of 720W
the -12v has a combined max wattage of 9.6W
the 5vsb has a combined max wattage of 15W
I am looking to buy the parts for the computer in a bundle, and this would be some helpful information to help with my purchase.  I am trying to stick MSI for as much as I can, though unfortunately there are no MSI power supplies!  If anyone has knowledge on the basis of my request, or just general knowledge to share about choosing a power supply, I am always open to hearing more and expanding my personal knowledge of computers.
Anyways, thanks for reading everyone, I look forward to your responses!

Thank you for the quick reply, I appreciate the fast response.
Out of curiosity, would a second MSI nvidia Geforce 9800 G2 1gb card be something that would add too much strain for the power supply?  In the future I would like to pop in a second card, though I don't want to burn anything out.  Also, are power supplies generally universally equal for their ability to hook into a board, or do some board require different cords and such?

  • NO LINE!!! NO HELP! NO DUCTING NEW BUILD HOUSE

So here goes . , my ongoing unlimited stress with bt
    27 july ordered bt

wednesday comes and yet again there is no connection no line NOTHING,
i call back up yet again ON A MOBILE to find now that no work will be done no work has been done!
they have no idea who called me to tell me the builders had confirmed it and no idea about the line other than it will not be connected without confirmation from the builders on ducting..
the finall words for the call was that i had to wait another '''24 HOURS''' For an update on open reach connecting the line , his words was just 24 hours for us to get the update and i promise you we will know more
someone is suppose to be calling me back from never land that never calls so i wont hold my breath.
i have NEVER in all my life been messed about by any company as bad as bt has let me down, i cannot trust anything im being told as they keep saying then taking it back and changing it, all i get is im so sorry i understand or, well i dont know why they have told you that or i cant see that or anything like that!..
im at the end of my wit patience and sanity, please if someone can get my line connected please help because im at a right loss with no phone and appointments and calls i need to make
    thank you

    Hi misscheryl1987,
Did you get my email on the 14th?
When I spoke with the engineers' department originally, they confirmed that work would start on the 28/09 but may take up to Monday 01/10 for the line to activate, depending on the amount of work required.
At the moment I am unable to get more updates but I will chase up on Monday when the department I need to speak to is open again.

  • New Build a78m-35 wont boot/POST

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me out as I am not sure what else to try. Its a new build with the following components:
    A78M-35 MB
    AMD X4-760K CPU
    CORSAIR CX 430
    WD SATA 1TB drive
    Radion Saphire GPU
I have hooked up everything like I have many times before and also re-read manual for sanity sake. I have unhooked and re-hooked everything as well, pulled MB out and re-inserted. Pulling out RAM does not offer any beeps but I am not sure if this board even has a board speaker to play beeps. Everything powers on just no output to screen and no beeps at all. Have tried just vga from integrated port with graphics card not installed as well as dvi from graphics card.
I am wondering if the bios version is not correct for this CPU? Is there a way i can tell? Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you very much in advance.

Radeon R9-260X - 19A and a 450W psu minimum <-- you are below on the wattage by 20w
without the GPU you have no Graphics as the board has no graphics core and the board itself has non so you would have 0 output!
as for your PSU have you tried another one?
do you have another graphics card you could try on it?
No i do not have another graphics card or PSU to try on it.

  • New build P7N SLI-FI stuck on Memory Check

I have a new build with the following components:
    Case: Aluminus ULTRA
    Mobo: MSI P7N SLI-FI
    CPU: Intel E8400, 3ghz LGA775, 1333 fsb, Core 2 Duo
PSU: Rosewill Extreme RX950-s-b, 80 Plus
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda, 7200 SATAII
    Memory: 4 X CM2X1024-6400C4 (DDR2 800 1gb sticks)
Video Card: NVidia GeForce 9500 GT
Everything is plugged in according to the directions with the mobo, I connected the 24 pin power, and the 8 pin power for the CPU.  Everything is brand new, I carefully seated the CPU and cooler.
The thing gets as far as the memory check and stalls.. nothing more. At one point the message concerning the DEL or F11 key to go to BIOS or Boot came up but pressing either did nothing.
I remove the mobo from the chassis and place it on a non conductive surface.. no luck. Same result.
I remove all memory sticks but one ... still same result.
This is extremely frustrating.. any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for the crack about the Intel board...just frustrated.
So the company that I bought the board from (local company) actually loaned me a CPU that worked fine (Pentium 4), so I could flash the BIOS.  I was pleasantly surprised. There is some definite value to buying from your local shop, I never shopped there before.. but I am glad I did this time... they are very trusting people.
Now my next problem;  I do not have a license for Windows (nor do I have any Windows media laying around).  I am a Linux user.
I have OpenSuse 10.3 up and running on this machine now and it is running great. I would however like to use my new processor so I need to flash to 7380 ver. 2.1.
Is there any utility for flashing the BIOS under Linux?
    Thanks again,
    Joe
