Starting new with something old
my tenant just handed me his old g3 imac because i am in dire need of a computer after mine stopped turning on and i've never used a mac before and have no clue what im to do with it... all of his old junk and clutter is on it along with plenty of unavailable options like apple dvd player(it only has a cd drive) and some other things i don't understand under the apple icon... its runnin mac os 9.2.2 and right now is completely unusable to me....
so my question is... is there any way for me to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch... essentialy reinstall os 9.2 and get that lovely little setup assistant... becuase im afraid that if i leave all this mess on here and just press on with my own things i'll end up making even more trouble for myself and turn the whole thing into a smoking paperweight.

Sure you can do an erase and install. However, you'll find more help with OS 9 over in the CRT Imac forum. This forum is for the new intel imacs that can't use OS 9 at all.

Clearing HD and start new with Lion
I have been looking for a simple solution to my problem, but I can't seem to find one.
My dad just gave me is iMac (3.06 GHZ Core 2 Duo, 8GB Ram) with Lion (10.7.2) but it has a large amount of useless software to me and do not like the setup of his system compared to my MacBook Pro. I know that I can just have my MacBook Pro copy over but I would like to start clean as if I just purchased the computer.
So my question is, how do I clean the HD and start all over again so it was like I just purchased the computer?

KerryWell, if you don't care about the applications or other files on that computer, you can simply start over. However, FWIW, copying the system over from your MBP most likely will not work: Macs cannot boot from an older system than what they came with and, depending on how you aquired your copy of Lion, you may or may not be able to use that. To clarify:
If your dad bought the Lion license on MAS, he only purchased it for himself - it is not transferable. He is legally required to uninstall Lion and reinstall the original OS. If he forgot to do that, you can do that by using the original OS install disk - boot from it (by holding down C while restarting), choose erase disk from the Utilities, and reinstall the OS. Once updated to 10.6.8, you can go to MAS and get your own license of Lion. If you do not have the original install disk, call Apple and they will send out replacement disks for a nominal charge.
Now, if you bought your Lion license from the MBP from MAS, you can simply download it again on your MBP and then copy/install it on the iMac. If your MBP came with Lion installed, it cannot be used on another computer, so you will have to purchase it for the iMac. -
Try not to laugh too too much. I have Verizon FIOS with wireless router to a computer and laptop, both run Windows XP. I would like to connect to my "other" computer upstairs using wireless capability. The "other" computer is running Windows 95. Can this be done? If so, how?
It has a Uniden wireless receiver installed because I used to run the connection thru a Uniden Wireless AP Router (4 port) Model WNR2004 which will no longer run/turn on, unfortunately. Since it's a DSL receiver I was told it should be able to "grab" the Wi-Fi signal but requires reconfig...which I know nothing about.

Since all OS updates and third party software vendors do not support it any longer, it is NOT an OS that should be connected to the Internet. The software that is on it does not support modern OS standards and the OS can not be properly secured. WWW does not stand for World Wide Web it stands for Wild Wild West. The Internet can be a dangerous place to "play" in and using an OS that can't be protected or secured leaves the user vulnerable and susceptiple to nefarious Internet activity.
Granted, there are rare situations where one can not remove Win9x/ME from their envorinment but that situation dictates that the Win9x/ME platform NEVER be connected to the Internet.

My itunes account was set up under an email account that has been deleted. I started a new i tunes account but have the same device as with the old account. How do i keep my music thats on my ipod touch from being deleted whin i sync it to itunes after purchasing new music?
I have the same problem (deleted email account). I think I mistakenly set up an account when I was buying an Apple product online, not realizing that it would be the same ID as my iTunes.
What is the way to actually contact Apple?

My iPhone 4 has never backed up to anything, the account I started it with I never used so I was never able to verify it or anything. I now have a new icloud account and I want to backup my phone before I get a new one in a couple of days. If I delete the old account will I lose my photos or will they still be on my phone (remember they've never been backed up)? Thanks!
You cannot delete an Apple ID, you can just stop using it. If your photos are still on your phone now, then I suggest you do back them up. Transfer them from the phone into your iPhoto Library. iCloud only backs up your Camera Roll automatically. But the Camera Roll only contains new photos that were taken but not yet transferred using iTunes.

Trouble with iMovie '11 transitions and themes? I'm running Lion, Mac OS X and just noticed today that the transitions and themes don't seem to be working at all when I start new projects or try to add to old projects. What is the solve here?

I took some photos with my new 4s. Then, when I connected Iphone on PC asked if I wanted to start as a new phone or old. I choose my old account. I would like to know if there is any, any chance that I can recover the photos took before sync back.
I did not use ICloud or any storage and did not make any sync before.
Is there any Trash Can in Iphone in order to find them? I am dumb and I did not think about save them before connect to PC.Your photos are gone. They were wiped when you restored your phone. There is no "trash can".
You obviously don't understand how to use the iPhone properly. Attached is a link to the iPhone User guide. I suggest you read through it to avoid data loss in the future.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

my new 3 month old imac 27 with 10.6.8 snow is giving a **** of noise from the fan. suddently starting after today starting up. and the volume buttoms and screen lights up and down not working any more.. any one who can help here???
Try an SMC Reset. (System Management Controller)
Shutdown>unplug from power for ten minutes>press and hold in the power button for ten seconds>startup again.
Also try a PRAM Reset. (Parameter RAM)
Shutdown. At the bootup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, wait for two more chimes, total three, then let go of all keys to finish booting,

No internet, "PPPoE Server Not Found" message. Same problem with both old and new modems.

My internet connection with my old Westell 6100 modem was working fine, then quit all of the sudden and would not restart. The DSL and Data lights on the Westell modem were both green. The Internet light alternated between red and off.
I tried every troubleshooting thing I could think of:
Powering down and re-starting the modem and computer.
Resetting the modem.
Checking all of the wire and jack connections.
I plugged my computer ethernet cable straight into the modem, bypassing my router.
I tried both Windows and Mac computers.
I plugged the modem directly into the network interface on the outside of my house to bypass all of my house wiring.
I checked all my phone jacks with a telephone tester to make sure both phone lines were working and not reverse-wired.
I made sure I did not have a DSL filter installed on the modem line.
Verizon Tech Support did a line test and told me the line was fine but that there might be a problem with either my modem or something at the "central office" (not sure what that means). Verizon also sent me a new router as well -- a D-Link DSL-2750B.
The new D-Link router also does not connect to the internet (same problem). The DSL, Data, and Internet lights are all green on the D-Link. I have the computer directly connected to the modem with a new ethernet cable. I repeated the above troubleshooting steps. I went into the router configuration 192.168.1.1 and ran the modem's "Internet Troubleshooting" tests.
There were two error messages on the router configuration screens:
1."PPPoE Server not found" error message is shown on the summary screen.
2."No internet infrastructure present. Please call your infrastructure provider." is shown in the "internet troubleshooting" test results.
Verizon had me change some settings inside the router configuration -- no dice. Verizon ran another line test. A "Level 2 Tech" took over the call and told me that he thinks that the cause of the problem is that the outside wiring coming to my house is reverse-wired. How can this be true since my DSL worked for 2 years before this, my phone line tester indicates my phone lines are wired the right way, and my router reports "PPPoE Server Not Found?"
Verizon is sending out a repair tech to check the outside wiring but I don't think that is the problem at all.

Go to Solution.If you're getting DSL sync (solid DSL light), this sounds like a case of a bad line card to me. I've seen it happen before where it wasn't an account or route issue to the network.

I've changed my Apple ID password and when I go to the Apple ID link the changes have been emailed and are all verified. However, when I try to do something with an App or iTunes etc on my iPhone 5 it still comes up with my old Apple ID and asks me for the password and I don't have the option to overtyped the Sppld ID section with the new email I've set. I can't update Apps or buy Apps because of this. Any ideas?
ThanksSign out and back into your apple id from Settings>iTunes and App stores>(Your apple ID)>Sign Out and then sign in again with the new address. Close app store from running in the background (or restart the phone if your unsure how to do this). If when trying to update any apps they are still asking for the old apple ID, delete and re-install those apps.

How do I retain my apps after I change my apple ID? Right now I'm unable to update any of the apps with the old apple ID. I get an error message about an invalid id or Password. If I delete my appos and start over, I may lose the apps that I purchased (like the ones for $5 +....
Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them originally. Did you try entering your old password and see if that works?
If you need to sign out of your old account go to Settings>Store>Tap on your ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one.
you can also access your ID in the featured tab of the App Store. Swipe to the bottom of the screen and you will find it there as well. -
I have two apple ID, and I can't switch between them, although I change to my old ID, and it remains in the new ID, and I can't update to old purchases I did with the old id.
I already did according to your suggestion (sign in and sign out) and the id remain on the new one.
