Starting on ODI

Hello Friends
I have installed ODI recently and wanted to learn it. It seems I have installed a demo version as I need to start 'Start Demo environment'. It works fine. Is it possible for me to create my own Master Repository and then Working Repository ? As this is a Demo environment can I do my own developement using this Installation ? I am not sure if there is any other Installation .. Please help me .

Yes, you can create a master and work repositories on your own and start learning ODI. Click on the link below to open the installation guide. It is a PDF document, look under creating repositories. This helps to create master and work repositories and log on to ODI designer.

Hi Folks,
Session got started in ODI but it is still showing me errors in execution:-
Errors are coming marked in red
Errors are like:-
1)
ODI-1217:Session INT_INFext_RT_RF(17001) fails with return code 30088.
ODI-1226: STEP INT_INFext_RT_RF fails while performing a Loading operation.This Flow loads Target Table TRG_SALES_PERSON.
ODI-1228:Task SRCSET0 (Loading) fails on the target ORACLE connection ODI_STAGE.
Caused by :Java .sql.SQLException :ORA-30088 :datetime/interval precision is out of range
at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CTTIoer.processerror(T4CTTIoer.java:462)
Hope this finds the solution ASAP.

Hi,
I was going back to take a look at the Getting started with ETL.
After the upgrade to 10.1.3.5.3 (and also 10.1.3.6.0) I cannot access the sample environment.
I upgraded the sample repository but the message still states that the repository is outdated.
Should I setup a full new environment to get back the ability to look at the getting started?

Hi,

ODI, can't start scenario running in different machines

Hello All
Well i am working in a consulting proyect where I need ODI and BPEL to connect each other.
I have installed Oracle SOA Suite for weblogic 9.2 in a machine with ip 192.168.1.108
I have installed ODI as a server in another machine ip 192.168.1.109
I have installed Oracle Data Base in the of ODI 192.168.1.109
Then I installed ODI CLIENT in my laptop (i mean, the topology manager, designer, operator all in my laptop)
I have made a simple example where i created a "interface in odi" using ODI designer and the a package in which a call a bpel process and it works fine
Now i need to create a bpel process to call a ODI SCENARIO...but i am stock in it.
I have done the following:
1. I deployed the AXIS2 webservice and it's working ok.
2. I have started and ODI agent and I tested it using the topology manager and it is OK
3. I created and deployed a bpel process to call the ODI scenario
When i execute the instance of bpel, i get the following error in the AGENT (which is running in the same machine where ODI SERVER is installed 192.168.1.109)

I have done many many tests, but i can't make it work.
In my last test, I tried to invoke an odi scenario using the STARTSCEN.bat

I have tested the connection to the schemas/user of the database (ODIMASTER and ODIWORK repositories) and it's OK
I am kind of new using ODI, but i have made the same TEST in a Virtual Machine installed in my laptop, where i use a Express Edtion Database, a BPEL console, and ODI CLIENTE (everything local) and all the tests works ok.
1. Call a bpel web service from ODI ....OK
2. Call a ODI scenario from BPEL using the AXIS2 web service ....OK
3. start an scenario using the msdos console STARTSCEN ....OK
I also checked that the SNP_REM_REP and SNP_LOC_REPW columns are the same in the master and work repositories, but it's OK
What could be my problem?
I think i can be related to the MASTER and WORK repositories, but i don't know what more could i check

ODI 12c getting started.ova HELP!!!

Hi, am new to ODI and plan to get my feet wet with the virtual box install, I found the four files needed to set up the VM install but can not find the odi 12c getting started.ova file. Can anyone please share a link or guide me on how to proceed with this.

Capture change on certain columns only in ODI,

Hi experts:
Need you help to suggest the proper way to meet the following requirements.
Requirements”
(a) Source– Oracle 11g, need to track changes to 2 columns only - [Table A, Column A1] & [Table B, Column B1]. These 2 columns may be changed many times during a day.
(b) Every 4 hours, based on what are captured from (a), find out the distinct rows changed (i.e. based on primary keys of Table A, Table B) , and only ship the most current row images for these rows to target
(c) Target – Sybase, meet to perform transformations on the 2 column values (i.e. Column A1, Column B1) to map to target table [Table C, Column C1]
From my limited understanding, I think trigger-based CDC is to be used. However, not sure how to do this , especially (a) and (b). For example, where do we configure trigger logic to achieve (a) from the ODI studio ?

I would design an interface that uses Table A and Table B as the sources, do the join , transformation on Oracle and map to Target Table C, choose your staging area based on where you want the joins / transformation to take place, pick a Knowlege module based on Technology and how you want to update the target.

If your friendly with your source system DBA then I prefer Asynchronous CDC , its less intrusive than triggers, it does however need a bit of knowledge on how to monitor it, Metalink / Support has plenty of info.

The guide I've linked to uses an ODI WAit for Data to trigger the consumption of changes, you have stated every 4 hours so I would skip the ODI wait for data and simply schedule your package to run every 4 hours.

Make sure that JDK 1.6.0_21 or higher version insatlled in your PC.
Have you installed RCU 11g before ODI 11g installation.
If not, please installed it and later start the ODI 11g installation.
Open odiparams.bat/sh file.
encode the master repository password using enocde.cmd/sh and paste the same encoded password on odiparams.bat/sh file
check MASTER DB Crredentials/Master repository login credentials/ work repository details are properly setuped or not.
check JDBC URL
check ODI_JAVA_HOME path seted in your PC
ODI_JAVA_HOME=d:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_21 in case weblogic installed before ODI 11g other wise
ODI_JAVA_HOME=c:\Program files\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin at Windows (setup it on environment variable) at linux export the ODI_JAVA_HOME path using "export" command
run the ODI agent and check whether it is running or not.

Error Adding ODI Agent to OPM-NModule libopmncustom: initialization failed

Hi All
I am getting an error when I try to add, remove or start and ODI Agent in OPMN. The Error is as follows:

I can start and successfully test the agent using the agent_DEVAGENT.bat file but the problem seems to be adding it to OPMN.
-This issues seems to be that the OPMN module libopmncustom failed to initialize properly and hence has been disabled. I cannot see how I can enable it and test again.
I have tried the following to resolve the issue
1. Removed the agent and restarted it
2. Restarted the OPMN service
3. Restarted the server
4. Reinstalled ODI as well as the Stand Alone Agent
5. Uninstalled OPMN and installed it to a different location
Has anyone come across this and could you please give me a few pointers of what I can look at. The configs that I have are as follows

Solved the problem by dropping and recreating the user schema and all its objects, reinstalling and configuring both ODI and OPMN.
If you ever come across the problem I recommend the above, you will save yourself hours of troubleshooting

Connecting the source and target schemas to ODI

Hi ,
I have recently started learning ODI tool for data integration. I need to use this tool as a part of Deal Management product related work.
I have gone thru the documentation available in OTN for ODI. they were describing everything using the demo environment.
problem:
Can any one please tell me how to connect source schema and target schema to the ODI ...?
Both the source and target schema are in the Oracle database of the loaclhost.

Hi,
Right Click ur Dataserver , In the bottom u will have option insert physical schema.
Click that u will have window opened........
In the Definition Tab:
Specify ur Schema name and Work schema .......u r going to use .
Enable the default option also....
In Context Tab:
Specify ur context Name and Type in the Name u want to have for ur logical Schema, it autmatically creates the logical schema ...for u.
and click ok .

I have some ODI questions
Can i install ODI without having Fusion installed?
Wouldn't ODI without Fusion be merely an ETL tool? (assuming that you can install without Fusion)
Can i use ODI in an pub/sub architectural model for event driven data changes? I would still need an ESB(or Fusion) correct?
Why would I use ODI instead of Fusion? or vice versa?

What do you mean by Fusion? Fusion Middleware is a large stack of product suites and ODI is one of those products. If you are starting with ODI then you may refer -

Export Sunopisis - import ODI without upgrade

I was using Sunopsis, and I started with ODI.
In sunopsis I had one master repository and one working repository, containing only one project.
I export the master and working repository to a zip file, and then I import both in odi.
I have done some tests using ODI without performing an Upgrade of the repositories, and it is working fine.
Do I really MUST perform an upgrade ?
Can you describe me what steps the upgrade process does ?

An upgrade of the repositories modifies your existing repository to match the 10.1.3 schema model.
Can you explain your upgrade process? Did you create a new Master and Work in ODI before importing your old repositories via Topoplogy and Designer?

ODI vs informatica

Hi All,
We are planning to build a big datawarehouse using ODI.since ODI is a ELT tool it doesn't need seperate engine for data integration.
could someone suggest some answers for my questions .
1) ODI vs Informatica ----- which tool do you suggest for big DWH
2) since ODI uses target database as the engine for data integration, does this going to effect the performance of our DWH to which we will be loading the data. same DWH will act as the reporting instance also.
DWH = report queries load+data integration load(since ODI uses target DB as engine)
how is ODI going to effect the DWH.
If ODI effects the DWH , then do you have any suggestions to avoid this.
If ODI doesn't effect the DWH , could you let me know why?

Thanks for the info.That was helpful.
1) During the initial setup of your ODI environment, did you increase your DWH hardware specs(ODI Engine) by any valuie to accomodate ODI processes.
2) say we have three different environments of ODI ( dev/QA/prod) and DWH(dev/qa/prod).....
Running the ODI jobs during odd hours could be idle in PROD Environment.
but in dev/QA say a tester/developer started a ODI process for testing during regular work hours which uses dev/qa DWH as ODI engine.
During the same time Report developers/testers are also testing some reports which are run accross dev/qa DWH.
Then i think the dev/qa DWH performance will be little bad. Cant we avoid this kind of situation by any means.
and do you think increasing dev/qa hardware specs will siffice the problem.

i.e can we use odistartscenerio?if we can then how to pass conext/agent as parameters?

You need JavaEE agent and configure odi run time service. BPEL can then call this service to start an odi scenario.
