Starting OWB OC4J Instance

I have problem starting the OWB OC4J instance in Windows.
When I clicked on it,a DOS screen popped out and dissappeared.
Please help.

Nikolai,
Now our DBAs are able to start the OC4J Instance on the host server and am able to get the RAB login screen.
But when I input the details and presee "View Deployment report" or any other report, It is sitting there forever and is not bringing back anything. I do not know what the problem is? Any help? Please.
Thanks
Mahesh

• OWB 11g - Repository Browser no OC4J instance

Hi All,
I have installed OWB11g and its working fine. But I don't see any OC4J instance startup under my program menu->oracle home and hence i cannot start the OWB repository browser. Do i need to configure any other thing to see OC4J instance startup or for 11g there is no OC4J requried. If no OC4J is requried for OWB repository browser in 11g , how do i start the browser ?
Thanks,
Sam.

Hi All,
I got it - in 11g you can use startOwbbInst.bat under <ORACLE_HOME>/owb/bin/win32 to start the OC4J instance and in 11g when you run it for the first time it will ask you to set OC4J Administrator password.
Thanks,
Sam.

Though I made the modification and re-start the OC4J instance, I could see the same error and behavior.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue please?
Regards,

This is bit strange. It should work. I tested and works fine for me.
Can you remove the entry from opmn.xml and make sure no typo in server.xml and try again. You might want to reload OPMN (opmnctl reload) and then try restarting OC4J (opmnctl startproc ias-component=OC4J).
Note that value (-DcheckForUpdates) set in opmn.xml overrides the value set in server.xml:

2. when i try to install the oracle developer suite 10g, i try to execute the jinit.exe

Dear Mark
Thank for your replied.
I have the privileges to do the install.
After i click the jinit.exe, it show the extracting files ... window.
after the extracting file process, the window been closed automatically.
by the way, if i modify the value the version of JInitiator in the formsweb.cfg, l
ike 1.3.1.17 => 1.3.1.18 show i replace the jinit.exe file in
the /ora10g_home/jinit ?
It default is for 1.3.1.17, because i can't install that successful,
so i modify the related value in the formsweb.cfg,
but i didn't replace the jinit.exe file for that .
That will it effect the oc4j work on forms running time process?

• How to start oc4j instance in linux

I need the oracle report server to generate reports via the call from JSP.
But the response contains no data. But i think that the problem is that the oc4j instance is not started or the port number i am using in the URL is wrong.
I have two questions in my mind.
1) How to start the oc4j instance in linux
2) How to find the port number of the oracle report server. will it be stored in any files.
Pls provide some inputs on this query.

Hello,
1) How to start the oc4j instance in linuxYou have not specified what version, so for standalone you can use the following command:
java -jar oc4j.jar
In 10.1.3 you need to use the oc4j.cmd/oc4j.sh file to start and stop OC4J.
If you are using the Application Server, then please use opmnctl start and stop the OC4J instance.
2) How to find the port number of the oracle report server. will it be stored in any files.
Please post this to the Reports forum.
Hope this helps.

• Not able to run the forms -OC4J Instance Error

Hi all,
We are facing a problem, like in our developement server we have installed Forms 10g, and configured the formsweb.cfg(we had set the working folder as D:\Source) and default.env and registry also.
While calling the form from the other machines/run the form from the forms builder itself, we are getting error like "RFB 003.008". The same error is coming while running the test form using the "Start->Programs->Oracle Developer Suit - >DevSuiteHome1->Forms Developer->Run a Form on the web" method also,
When we started the OC4J Instance, we got the following message:

• Forms with OC4J instance runs in http mode, Y?

I don't want my forms to run in http mode - http://fulham:8889/forms/frmservlet.
Can someone help in making me run it in forms itself
I have Enterprise server 9i and forms 10g running on my local machine. At the initial stages, it says about about not being started. Ok, I had to simulate forms in run time by starting an OC4J instance but it now runs in http mode.
Is there a way around this? Has anyone come across this?
many thanks in advance
cube60

What's the alternative you're looking for?
If it is HTTPS to secure the communication - yes that's possible
If it's a plain socket connection in stead of HTTP - I think Oracle dropped that after version 6i, but I'm not 100% sure.
If it is traditional client-server - Oracle dropped that after version 6i.
So, please explain what is you want.

• Address already in use for oc4j-instance: unable to run a form

Hi,
I've an error starting the oc4j-instance of forms.
it says: address already in use JVM-bind.
i changed the port number to 8888 (it was 8889) in the devsuit/config/default-web-site.xml.
running for the first time a form JInitiator was installed, applictaion server installation succesfull, but i see only a grey screen (in stead of my form).
i changed the prot number to 8889 again.
how to solve?
by the way, how to combine all oc4j instances into one?
(I have one for forms, one for reports, one for mapviewer and one for BIPublisher)
Leo

Thank you so much for your help.
It works when I remove the http://%%20" from address in Internet Explorer. But it doesn't work in preference->runtime. No matter what address I typed, FormBuilder added http://%%20" in front of the address automatically. I don't know what else I need to change to avoid this problem.
Thank you.

• OC4J Instance

In Oracle Developer Suite - ORA10g there are two separate OC4J Instance one for the Forms Builder and Reports Builder. Let us say I had started the OC4J Instance for Forms Builder do I had to start the OC4J Instance for the Reports Builder when opening the Forms Builder? Or other way around if I start the OC4J Instance for the Reports Builder do I had to start the OC4J Instance for the Forms Builder when opening the Forms Builder? Thanks.

it is the same link to the same oc4j
or do you have two separate installations in two oracle homes ?

• OC4J instance doesn't start automatically on boot.

I've installed 9iAS 9.0.2 on a Win2K advanced Server machine.
However the OC4J instances don't startup automatically on boot and I have to start them up manually using the Enterprise Manager.
Is there any way to make them start up automatically?

Is your Oracle9iASProcessManager service set to automatic ? If so the OC4J and HTTP server processes will startup automatically.

Hi All,
As per the Content DB Developer's kit we have configured the oc4j_soa OC4J to use OID, however the ascontrol application of this Instance is down and the ascontrol application of home OC4J Instance is up (I guess only one instance of ascontrol must be running at any point of time). Server Ctrl. page.
Thanks
Krrish

Hi Krrish,
This can only be done via the opmnctl command line tool.
Subsequently run:
- opmnctl stopproc process-type=home application=ascontrol
- opmnctl startproc process-type=oc4j_soa application=ascontrol
Then ascontrol runs in oc4j_soa.
Although this is fine for development or when running SOA Suite in a Virtual Machine (and for cutting down memory consumption) it is not recommended for production deployments. In the latter case only run SOA Suite components in your SOA OC4J instance.
