Starting PE8

Hi, The other day, I disabled the Auto-analyzer in the PE8 Organizer.  Since then, I have found that when I start PE8, the Welcome screen appears, but the Open New Project, and Open Existing Project buttons are shaded out so that they can not be selected. Additionally, it forces me to take the tour, or see What's New, before I can do anything.   Once I've taken the tour, or have seen What's New, it takes me directly into Organizer, rather than opening up PE8.   I have completely uninstalled PE8, including all User Preferences, and have scoured my computer to make sure that every file and folder left behind from PE8 is removed before I reinstall PE8.   Unfortunately, when I reinstall PE8, I get the same old thing and must take the Tour,or See What's New, before it takes me directly into Organizer.  Help!
Thanks,
Kent

I don't know what would cause that, Kent.
You certainly aren't required to take a tour of the program. (In fact, if you click on the arrow buttons in the upper right, you can select a different splash screen.)
Have you registered and activated the program? You may also want to start and log in to your Photoshop.com account. (It uses the same Adobe ID as your registration and this forum.)
I assume you're giving the program plenty of time to launch. It takes much longer the first time -- but it shouldn't take more than five minutes or so.
Have you installed the 8.01 update? Even if you can't get into Premiere Elements, you can launch the Adobe Updater from Photoshop Elements or virtually any other Adobe program and it will update Premiere Elements also.
But if nothing seems to work, it's definitely time to contact Adobe support.
I know we've been working with you for some time, trying to get this program to work. But you should not be having this much trouble -- assuming your operating system and Quicktime and updated and assuming you've got plenty of power and a defragmented hard drive.

  • Problems starting PE8 - and the answer to my problem!

    Hi Everyone,
The other day, I was having a problem starting PE8... When I started PE8 from the desktop icon, the Welcome Screen would appear, but the buttons which would normally allow a person to: Open a Project, Create A Project, etc., were all shaded out and could not be clicked. In fact the only thing I could do was to Take a Tour!   After taking the tour, I was able to click on a GO button, which then took me into Organizer, rather than into Premiere Elements. Clearly, something was wrong. I completely uninstalled PE8 and removed all instances of PE8 from my Program Files x86 directory. Yet, when I reinstalled PE8, the sympton persisted.
Here's the answer to the problem I was experiencing:
After trying to start PE8, over and over, many times, I noticed that right before the Welcome screen began to appear, there was a small (2" X 3") dialog box that said that I did not have any available memory. How could that be?! I have 12GB of memory on my computer! Hmmmm. Wait a minute! I remember that as I entered PE8 in the past, at the bottom of the Welcome Screen, it said that I had/have 2GB of memory for storage available.   So, as I went in to the shaded out Welcome Screen again, I looked at the little bar graph which shows how much storage memory one has available from Photoshop.com.  My bar graph was maxed out!   I then went to photoshop.com (which I have never used at all!) and I logged in with the same login that I used when I registered PE8.  Much to my surprise, someone else's pictures had been dumped into my account/storage on Photoshop.com. I then deleted ALL the pictures that were on my photoshop.com account.  I also changed my login & password.  I logged out of photoshop.com and then (as I had done many times previously) attempted to open up Premiere Elements 8 and IT OPENED AND STARTED PERFECTLY.
The moral to this story is that:   If you, or (as in my case) someone else maxes out your photoshop.com storage, you won't be able to get into Premier Elements until you either obtain more storage from Adobe, or until you delete things that you have in that storage area.   Note that when you install and register PE8, a Photoshop.com account and gallery area are created for you.   If that account/gallery is ever filled to it's initial 2GB capacity, you won't be able to start PE8 properly.   Likewise, if you can't start/open PE8 normally, then go to photoshop.com, log in, and check to see how much memory has been used on your photoshop account.
Last, but not least, know that the memory problem (not having any more Storage Memory available) is NOT a problem on YOUR computer. Rather, it is referring to the amount of Memory/Storage that Adobe gives you for free on THEIR computer.
    Best Regards,
    Kent

Hmmm. They would have to have the same login and password,  which is highly unlikely. Nevertheless, while my login (email address) remains the same, I now have a new password.   I figured that you would find my 'solution' interesting.    I never would have thought the problem was with the photoshop.com account which I had never used.   But, as we all know, the moment we assume anything, Murphy's Law kicks in and fools us!   Thanks again for all your help.  Kent

  • Premiere Elements 8 crashes when selecting the edit option

    Hi to you all,
I just installed Premiere Elements 8 on my new system.
It is a Intel i5 + 4 GB mem, GTS250 and 400 GB of free disk space.
OS is WIndows 7 64 bits. The system is completely up-to-date with patches, fixes and so on.
BIOS, Drivers etc. All to the latest.
    Starting PE8, no problem
Getting the film from my sony DV on to the disk, no problem.
    Disc menu: no problem
Then when I want to add transitions or titles via the edit menu, Premiere elements 8 crashes. It is not responding anymore and windows is looking for a solution.
I followed the hints and tips on this forum on crashing Elements 8. No help. Quicktime to the latest. ended processes. All no help.
I also started PE8 in WIndows XP SP3 mode. Same problem.
Could it be the 64 bits?
    Any help would be appriciated.
    Richard
    The Netherlands

Thank you all for the quick replies.
I installed the latest Nvidia GTS250 driver (from the Nvidia site) and guess. No crash anymore when selecting the edit menu.
My graphical card is a Asus GTS250 DK/DI/1GB and I was using the latest drivers retrieved from the asus site. Those drivers are old.
I can now continue to evaluate Premiere Elements 8.0
    Thanks all.

  • PE8 will no longer start - not responding

I've been using PE8 for a year.  For the last two days it wont start
I get to the usual screen when I click the start icon, but the first time I click the mouse (for instance to select Project) the rotating icon starts and there is no other effect.  If I click again I see the message "Elements 8 is not responding."
    I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on a Samsung laptop  NVIDIA GT330M  Intel Core i5 520  4Gb
On some occassions I see  a window "Activating Components" with a progress bar stuck at 40%. But only occassionally
I've tried reinstalling PE8, and restoring a restore point to afew days ag. I've uninstalled two programs which I recently installed (since PE8 worked) - Calibre and Bittorrent. No change
    Any suggestions?

This is a CHECKLIST of possible issues. I'd work though all of the points, and also take a look at the various links in it.
When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. The task is to figure out WHAT has changed, and address that issue.
It could be as simple as the HDD becoming overly full, as per Steve's question, and with a laptop, this is likely.
It could be that something as simple as an OS update/hot-fix has effectively killed the video (or audio) driver. PrE interfaces more closely with those drivers, than almost any other program on one's system.
It could be malware, or a virus/Trojan, and it's killing PrE. With Bit-Torrent, one is very open to such nefarious programs.
It could be the addition of a program, like an audio-editing program, if it installs VST's. PrE can work with many, can work fine, if some others exist, but some will kill the program. See this ARTICLE.
Good luck, and if none of the above helps, please post the full details of your laptop.See this ARTICLE for some tips.

  • PE8 edit won't load from start screen in XP Pro

I have just installed PE8 in place of Pinnacle Studio Plus 10.8 which I've been using for a few years with few problems. It seems to install OK with no error messages but It won't load "new project" from the start screen although it will load "organiser". I also can't get into "new project" from the organiser. My computer is running XP Pro and has a single core Intel Pentium 4 processor running at 2.66GHz with 2Gig of RAM. Should I be able to run PE8 on my system?

You should be -- assuming you have at least 30 gigabytes of free, defragmented space on your C drive and all of your operating system and Quicktime updates.
A Pentium, though, is way at the lower end of the required power to run this program. Unlike previous versions of the program, version 8 needs a huge amount of power to run. I can barely run it on my Pentium 4, and then only with basic miniDV editing, although it runs much better on my dual-core 2.6 ghz machine.
To see how much power it needs to start up and run, open the Task Manager (right-click on your Windows Task Bar) and watch how long it takes for your processor to settle down when you launch the program. On my Pentium, it can take over 5 minutes to open a project and stabilize!
There's more information in the FAQs to the right of this forum.

  • JMS-related sun-appserver-pe8.0.0_01 default server start failure

On Dell Dimension 2400 XP system, appserver startup always fails after trying for 60 seconds to verify if the JMS service startup succeeded. This condition started 10 July. What is JMS? Why does it fail? What to do? Rich

    Hi
The Java Message Service (JMS) is a messaging standard that allows application components based on the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) to create, send, receive, and read messages. It enables distributed communication that is loosely coupled, reliable, and asynchronous.
JMS is bundled and installed with Application Server 8. JMS runs on a port 17676. If this port is occupied by any other process, the JMS will not start. Please check if this port is occupied by any other process or change the default JMS port in domain.xml (<Creator-root>/Appserver8/domains/creator/config/domain.xml)

    *********** UPTO HERE **********
Previously I am able to start the server and was able to test an application. But, this time somehow it failed to start.
I have checked the port numbers whether they are in use. But, all the port numbers required for the app server are free. I have checked it through "netstat -a".
    thanks in advance,
    -Ranjan

    See if this helps:

  • Error in starting the domain in application server 8.2

I want to deploy a application EAR on newly created domain. For this :
    1. Got the 8.2 Java application server installed on solaris box.
    2. Created domain using the asadmin command -> create-domain --adminport 4848 --adminuser admin <DOMAIN_NAME>
On starting the domain with this command - sh asadmin start-domain --user admin <DOMAIN_NAME. I am facing the below issue. Please note this is a fresh installation of the app server and a new domain
To troubleshoot this, I have already followed below steps , without any resolution:
    1. Checked port with - netstat -an|grep 45184 and also checked the processes using ps -fu <unix_user>. Even after killing the process, same error.
    2. Gave full permissions on /AppServer8.2/imq/var/instances
    3. Logged in as root user and then tried to start domain
    4. Updated domain.xml with some other port , checked this port if it is free , then replaced in domain.xml
    5. No logs generated in /AppServer8.2/imq/var/instances
Please help me in resolving this issue. I have downloaded the 9.1 application server and will install and check in the meantime

    Hi,
Try to manually download the file from application server using standard transactions, and than check how many records are you able to download from app. server.
I guess there might be something wrong with the format of 583rd record, which makes sap assume that the file has come to an end.
    Hope this will help you.

Looks like the AVK was installed at one point. If so was it uninstalled using the scripts provided with the
    AVK?

  • Application server will not start up

    Hello,
I have read quite a few topics concerning this problem, and have tried many things but without success.
I am running on Windows XP Pro. The installation goes fine, but when I run a project, the application server cannot start, and I get a message after quite a long time saying that it can't start and to check my port numbers, etc.
I used to have Sun Java Creator, but I uninstalled it. I tried deleting the \Windows\System32\productregistry file. I tried uninstalling completely and reinstalling in C:\Sun\Creator2, but the problem is still the same. I tried deleting the domain with "asadmin" and recreating it, but I still get the problem.
I am posting all the relevant information from the logs, hopin someone will be able to help me out....

The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop.  Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components.  |#]

  • PE8 Trials and Tribulations

This is the story of my four day experience installing and running PE8.  For some of you there are tips that may help fix your problems. For others you will simply relate to my experience.  For those considering purchasing PE8 I highly recommend that you do your homework before jumping in.
I've been using PE4 for the last two years and was quite happy with the features and flexibility.  I consider myself a prosumer/serious hobbyist and have extensive geek experience.  My usual jobs consist of importing HDV video from DV tape that was recorded with a Canon HV20. I combine the video with still shots from a Canon 20D in JPG format, throw in some music, and make short (<5 min) videos.  I render and export in Widescreen DVD format (both PC and disk) and to H.264 HD format (both PC and Blu-ray disk).
Last week I decided that I should finally upgrade to the newest version just to stay current. I didn't read any reviews or do any research since I've always had a high level of respect for Adobe quality. Unfortunately my experience with PE8 has not been good.  I've spent the better part of four days trying to get it working properly.  I've had successes and disapointments. Some of you may benefit from the fixes that I used and I hope they will get you going with a functional and stable platform.
    System:
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) native 2.4 GHz, overclocked to 3.0 GHz
    4 GB RAM
1 TB striped RAID (RAID 0 for speed)
    Nvidia 8800 GT
    Samsung SH-S203B DVD RW
    Pioneer BDR-203 BD RW (Blu-ray)
    Vista x32
Installed PE8, updated to the latest version of QuickTime (7.65.17), and went merrily off working on my first project. I immediately started having stability issues.  Crashes without any warning, crashes with "out-of-memory" messages, crashes with "unknown cause" messages, crashes to the BSOD, couldn't render anything without a crash, overloaded processors even when the program was idle AND after it was closed, etc.  Not good.  All this on a platform that is extremely stable with every other software package I run.
After spending a couple days researching the issues I applied some system modifications that actually fixed most of the problems I was having. In fact the program only crashed once or twice following the changes - a tolerable frequency as long as I saved frequently. Prior to the changes it was crashing very frequently.
Here's the steps that got my PE8 running stable (insert reboots in the usual places):
    1) Uninstalled existing QuickTime and Nvidia drivers (QT 7.65.17, Nvidia ?)
    2) Installed QuickTime 7.3.1 and updated Nvidia GeForce drivers to v195.62
    3) Uninstalled GeForce Stereoscopic 3D Driver (this doesn't affect your 3D gaming unless you use 3D glasses)
    4) Disabled the Auto-Analyzer "feature" in Elements Organizer
    5) Disabled Background Rendering in PE8
After taking these steps the only really annoying problem that still existed is that "Adobe Premier Elements.exe" continues to run after closing the program. It hogs about 25% - 100% of the 4 processors but doesn't appear to be doing anything. And yes, I did leave it running overnight just to see if it would ever finish whatever it thought it was doing - nope.
Overall I was very happy that the mods fixed 90+% of my stability issues.  I completed my 4 minute video without much trouble and then...I tried to render the final product.  The standard DVD quality rendering works great - in both PC executable and disk products. The HD 720p works fine in PC executable format. But the one thing that I really need to produce is H.264 or MPEG2 at 1920x1080.  In the final product everything seems to render okay and the video starts out okay but at exactly 30 seconds the audio cuts out.  The interesting thing is that I can start from any point in the video and the sound lasts for 30 seconds and then dies.
I found a post where another person was having the exact same problem with standard resolution PC output and they were able to fix it by selecting the Advanced button to open the Export Settings, selecting the Audio tab, and then selecting MPEG for the audio format.  If you are having this audio problem you should definitely try the above fix!  Unfortunately, for the higher res HD output no such option exists under the audio tab.  There is perhaps a 3rd option to fix this problem and that is to buy another video editing program, read in the corrupt PE8 output and re-render. Apparently this has worked for some folks but I'm refusing to buy another program just to fix the errors of the editor I already have.
In summary, if you are having stability issues try the fixes I've listed above. They could potentially fix your problems and get you up and running. As for me, I can't find a way to get around the audio problem and it's the one last thing preventing me from having a functional PE8. I plan to return the product (ordered from Adobe online) in the hopes that voting with my dollars will encourage them to fix the PE8 problems. My impression of the current version of PE8 is that it is an abomination that should have never been released. It is substandard even for a beta version.  If Adobe can fix their PE8 problems and create a editor that is half as good as their other products they I will be the first to sign up for a new copy.
Good luck with whatever trials and tribulations that you may be experiencing with PE8. I'm glad that the program is working for some and for the rest I hope Santa delivers a serious PE8 patch!

I have the same computer and have experienced the same problems as you have. If you are able to get PE8 to function properly you will find that PE8 runs slower than PE7 due to all the new features (useless fluff).
You might also try deleteing any Reatek Audio drivers and allowing Win 7 to install it's driver, this seems to have helped my PE8 sound conflicts. I agree with you one hundred percent that PE8 should have been stabilized and the compatibility issues resolved before it was released. I guess things are done diferently at Adobe Bangalore.
