Starting Personal Oracle 8i

I downloaded Personal Oracle 8i from site oracle. But when I'm starting database (Personal Oracle 8i) appear the message: "Can not open the register Software\ORACLE\HOME0\SID_LIST Starting with default sid". After, appear the message: "Initializing Oracle8i". Then is solicited a password for initializing of the Oracle8i. What's this password ?
Thank you !

What version of Window? did you run the install with a user that has Administrator privileges? - The version of Window is Windows 98; and
- I not ran the install with a user that has Administrator privileges.

  • Starting Personal 9i Oracle

Ive installed Personal 9i on me computer with Windows Me, but i don't get start the Oracle because i dont know the password to start it. Plese anyone help me? what is the password?

Are you using the OStart utility? ("Start Database") (password could be manager, change_on_install or oracle)
If that does not work, try:
    c:\> set ORACLE_SID=<sid>
    c:\> sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect sys/<password> as sysdba
(sysdba gives you privileges to start/stop)
    Start instance and mount db
    SQL> startup pfile=<your path>\init<sid>.ora

  • Starting/Stopping Oracle 10g Personal Edition

Just wondering how one starts & stops 10g PE?
Oracle asks for Host credentials and database credentials.
SYS doesn't seem to work and as there is no security settings under Admin (in PE) I can't create my login as a SYSDBA.
    Suggestions appreciated!

PE is actually a superset of EE (Enterprise Edtion), with all EE options except RAC. It is targetted towards developers and designed to allow a develolper access to all of the capabiltites
Therefore, you can search the docs to find out how to start/stop the database's instance[s] and any reference to the Enterrprise Edition will be valid in your case. If I remember correctly, there is a chapter in the Installation Guide that covers the topic.
IN any case, PE is only licensed on Windows (presumably because developers only work in Windows???), so:
    - Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services
    - Ensure the TNS Listener service is running first
    - Start the Oracle service
The questions you ask indicate you are confused about the relationship between SYSDBA and the OS userid. I strongly encourage reading the first 2 chapters of the Concepts manual (at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1) to get a decent starting point.

    Hi, how are you?
I read your file. On my computer, I got the same problem. First I installed Personal Oracle 8.15 version under window 98. The oracle home is e:\orale\ora81. Then I installed Form 8i in the orale home e:\oracle\ora. After installation, there are two SQLPLUS. One is under ora81 and another is ora. The one which is in e:\oracle\ora81 is working and it can bring up the database. Another one and Forms don't work. They can not connect to the local database. It means my client which is under e:\oracle\ora can't connect to my server which is under e:\oracle\ora81. I think I shoud set up the connection in tnsnames.ora by using Net8 Easy Config. I did it. It failed. Can you help me?
    Thanks.

No, you shouldn't have to to.
If you have Personal Oraacle 8 running properly on your PC, then you can just connect to the database from Developer V6 using your normal username/password. For example, if you log on to SQLPLUS as scott/tiger, then the same will work for your forms and reports. You don't even need to enter a connect string. I have it working OK on a Windows '98 PC, with Personal Oracle 8i, and Forms v6i.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Forms 6i on personal Oracle 8i and polite 8i

    Hi,
Does anyone have a clue about the reason I cant get to run forms 6i on personal Oracle 8i or polite 8. I keep getting an error saying no listner, althou I dont need a listner when I am using single machine. same seting was working on polite 8 and forms 6. I can run sql plus 8 fine on same machine. Please respond to my email. thanks

Forms 6 does need a listener to eb able to talk to Oracle 8i even though they are on the same machine. This is because they reside in different Oracle homes and cannot 'see' each other. The listener should be started automatically with Oracle 8i, make sure you have a TNSNAMES entry for the 8i database in your Forms Net8 Oracle Home (probably ORANT or ORAWIN9x - not sure about Windows 2000!).

  • Help: Connecting to Personal Oracle 9i

I'm developing a web site that is going to use an Oracle database.
For that purpose I installed Microsoft Personal Web Server, and Personal Oracle 9i on a Windows 98.
I created a database using SQLPlus, but I can't connect to the database. I can't even create an ODBC connection.
The error message I get is ORA-12541. (no listener).
I am under the impression that the Personal Oracle doesn't work with a listener, is that right? What can I do in order to access the database from my client application?
    Thanks ahead,
    Fernando Cachicas.

The database listener usually runs as a service, but you can manually start it. Go to the bin directory of the DB and type:
    "lsnrctl start"

  • Drop table command in Personal Oracle 8i for windows98

I installed personal oracle 8i for windows 98. The database version is 8.1.5. When I try to drop a table that does not exist sqlplus hangs. Then I have to do ctrl+alt+del to cancel the program. Because of this problem I am not able to succesfully run the developer 6.0 admin tables script. Any program that drops a table that doesnt exist seems to hang. After this I have to shutdown the database and start it to work further.
Has anyone encountered this problem. Is this a bug or is there something wrong in my installation.

  • Connecting Personal Oracle 8i and Developer

    Hi
    The following works for me.
The critical files required are tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora and listener.ora.
    Put sqlnet.ora, listener.ora and tnsnames.ora in the ORACLE\ORA81\NETWORK\ADMIN directory.
Put sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora in the
    ORAWIN95\NETWORK directory.
The following are how the files should look.
This is assuming the PO 8I installation defaults were taken (SID is ORCL, and GLOBAL DATABASE NAME is ORACLE).
    Listener.ora file:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 2481))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = GIOP)
    (SESSION = RAW)
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = Oracle)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    tnsnames.ora file:
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = oracle)
    (SID = ORCL)
    sqlnet.ora file:
    TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=OFF
    TRACE_DIRECTORY=C:\ORACLE\ORA81\NETWORK\LOG
    trace_level_client = off
    trace_directory_client = c:\orawin95\network\log
    #sqlnet.authentication_services=(NONE)
    names.directory_path=(TNSNAMES,HOSTNAME)
    #names.default_domain=world

    automatic_ipc = off# c:\oracle\ora81\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=OFF
    TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=C:\ORACLE\ORAWIN95\NETWORK\LOG
Create a shortcut for listener (C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN\LSNRCTL.EXE).
    Start developer.
    Start PO 8i.
    Start Listener and enter "start".
You should now be able to connect to Oracle
from Developer using scott/tiger and using oracle as the database name.
    Good Luck.

    Hi.
I too had problems getting Developer 6 to connect to Personal Oracle 8 on Windows 98.
Thanks to the information Jim posted I am now able to connect.
I followed Jim's instructions with three exceptions.
First exception - On my machine the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora file belong in the ORAWIN95\NET80 directory rather than ORAWIN95\NETWORK directory.
Second exception -- Personal Oracle 8 was installed in C:\ORA81 rather than C:\ORACLE\ORA81 so I adjusted pathnames as needed.
Third exception -- I made backup copies of the sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora, and listener.ora files that the installation had created before I started editing them.
My first attempt to start the listener failed with TNS-01152 message which indicated that the addresses provided to listener were not valid.
I replaced the listener.ora file in my C:\ORA81\NETWORK\ADMIN directory with the one that the installation had created then attempted to start the listener again.
The listener started successfully. I attempted to connect from Developer6 using scott/tiger@oracle. Developer6 connected!
Here is what my listern.ora file looks like:
    # LISTENER.ORA Network Configuration File: # C:\ora81\network\admin\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = i8q4v6)(PORT = 1521))
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = GIOP)
    (SESSION = RAW)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = i8q4v6)(PORT = 2481))
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\ora81)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORACLE)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\ora81)
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    Good Luck.
    Debbie.

  • Discoverer 3.1.x Install on NT with Personal Oracle 8i

Can Discoverer 3.1.x be installed on a Windows NT machine that already has Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.6) installed on it? If so, how?
The Discoverer Installer posts some contradictory error messages when I try to do this.
First, if I try to install Discoverer to a separate ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that the Installer does not support multiple installations and that Discoverer must be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as the existing Oracle8i.
But when I rerun the installation trying to use the existing Oracle8i ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that this ORACLE_HOME directory is already being used for "Oracle 816 Production" and that "It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt'".
This is an odd contradiction. IMHO, it seems that Discoverer and Personal Oracle 8i would be a rather natural pairing, and that Oracle Corp would be interesting in having these 2 products be able to co-exist on the same machine.
The Install.wri notes (July99) do indicate that Discoverer 3.1 cannot be installed on the same machine as Personal Oracle 8.0.3 but can be installed alongside 8.0.4. Also, in another posting (http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000117.html) in this Discussion Group, it would appear that Discoverer 3.1 can be installed with Oracle 8i, but how?
(As a footnote: I would definitely prefer to install Discoverer into a separate ORACLE_HOME from the Oracle server.)
Thanks for any clarity on this situation.

    Hello Jerry:
There are two possible ways to deal with this issue:
    1. Install Discoverer into the first (Default) Oracle_Home on your machine.
    2. Install the RDBMS into another ORACLE_HOME.
Discoverer cannot be installed into a non Default Oracle_HOME.
    Also...
In this scenario you can do the following.
In the Oracle Installer you write DEFAULT_HOME in the NAME field and the you enter a directory different from the one Oracle8i is installed in. In many cases this does the trick. But you can get into a scenario where you still gets the errors message. In this case you exit the installer, starts a Dos Prompt and enter regedit, to edit the registry. Here you
    find the key
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\ALL_HOMES\DEFAULT_HOME. You change the value of this key to DEFAULT_HOME and then start the installation again.
    I hope this helps.

You cannot put Developer 6.0 and Personal Oracle 8 together on
the same home directory as there are conflicts between their
dlls. Either put them apart (different homes) or use a certified
version of Personal Oracle with Developer 6.0.
